Not sure if you are just referring to video game companies but Sony and Microsoft both have programs that reward you for buying products.
You're right. There's Sony Rewards, where you earn 1 point for $1 and a $10 PSN card costs 1000 points. Microsoft's is somewhat better, with 5000 points equaling $5 and some of those points obtainable by surveys or other non-transaction means. Funny enough, Microsoft also calls its purchases "Missions":

https://rewards.xbox.com/mymissions/

Yet there are plenty of complaints about Microsoft's program, such as a limited number of qualifying titles that give significant points (a digital preorder on a small selection of big name games nets a $15 credit) and the "tier" system (spend a minimum of $300, get 1% back on digital purchases). Which makes buying directly from Microsoft less attractive than just buying from Amazon with Prime or Best Buy with GCU.

In perspective, a $100 purchase on the eShop garners 100 gold coins, with most of the digital game rewards being from 20-200 gold coins. Correlated to the costs of said games if purchased with actual cash, the gold points are almost equivalent to a 10% back program, however obviously that value only exists if you're interested in any of the titles on offer. The platinum points, which are beyond simple to accrue, and free platinum point games are completely icing on the cake.

The new Nintendo reward system seems good if only by comparison (I would argue it is good, period, if limited in quantity of rewards). Right now they don't have a "cash back" option like the old system (the offer that ran for most of the U's lifecycle), no rewards for physical purchases (purportedly coming later this year), and no physical rewards but, and this was my point, free games at minimal cost and effort is not insulting.

Mynintendo has been decent to me so far

snag some games, used some points

anyone know how I could add a friend face to face as a mountain loner that only talks to animals for the 100 coins?

one of the last missions I didn't do with the biggest reward.

Anyone grab Super Dodge Ball? Does it hold up at all or will I be wasting $3.50?
I bought it last week. I intended to just try it out before playing Fire Emblem, but I sunk a good 2 hours into it. Mostly played it on easy to get used to the mechanics, so I didn't really challenge myself, but I found it pretty addicting regardless.

Use a tablet to add a face to face friend.

That Devil Survivor price is actually really good and I've been thinking about jumping into the series with that entry for a few weeks now, so the timing's perfect, but I think the fact that I greatly prefer physical over digital, especially when it comes to Nintendo, along with the fact that they're trolling me by making it to where a $9.99 purchase doesn't count towards 20 gold coins (i.e. the game has to be $10 to get them, plus you can't combine purchases to put yourself over the limit, as far as I can tell) is going to help me resist it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Nintendo's put into place something that's looking to be as useful as Club Nintendo for digital rewards, but those price ranges for coins are cruel.

if the game is on sale you should get the coins for it's original price not its sale price

I got 20gold for duck tales at 4.99

Thanks! I grabbed the Wii U code.

SMTIV hasn't gone below $14 yet right?

I've had an excess of eshop cards I was thinkin' of trading for equivalent psn credit. I should get around to that sometime. Maybe when golden week sale comes around.

You get credited for the MSRP instead of the sale price.
I actually didn't know this, but to be fair, I never buy digital with Nintendo unless it's a title not offered elsewhere (e.g. Phoenix Wright DD). I'm assuming this applies to all games, right? As in if I bought Devil Survivor, it'd count as $29.99 instead of $9.99?

It's a weird bug that they've yet to fix as far as I've seen from posts in here, so it'll work on any games whose MSRPs are $5 and up.

starfox is one of the only games I have preordered since the 1800s

I figure since nintendo games rarely go down much and amazon prime 20% knocks it down nicely I would go ahead and snag it

looks like nothing new on the 3ds shop tomorrow

hopefully we get the horse racing game demo tomorrow

Just needed advice... thinking about selling my N3ds for a while because I need some money... Unfortunetly, I bought a ton of games off eshop.  It's associated with my Nintendo ID; however, it sounds like if I don't transfer to a new system, I just lose all my digital games?

Is that right?  Is there anything I can to keep my digital contents?

sorry you're in a tough spot

format it and sell it and when you buy a new one call nintendo customer service and request the nnid be put on your new system

save as much info (serial number) as you can about your account and device so if you're asked questions you'll be able to answer them

you also may be able to unlink the account from the system prior to selling by calling CS

Anyone try the demo for Pocket card jockey? It's an odd combo, but it works surprisingly well. I'm not a huge solitaire fan but with its slight RPG and strategy elements it's a lot of fun. Might be a day one purchase.

I thought you couldn't transfer from an N3DS to an older model. That's what I heard somewhere.
You're right. You can't.

Select "From New 3DS to 3DS/2DS":

"It is not possible to transfer content from a New Nintendo 3DS XL or New Nintendo 3DS to a Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, or Nintendo 2DS."

http://www.ign.com/wikis/nintendo-3ds/3DS_to_New_3DS_or_3DS_XL_System_Transfer

Supposedly (see above link) it actually is possible if you want to wrangle with customer service, ship both of your systems off to a service center, and wait for a couple of weeks. I wouldn't want to go through that trouble though.

So if i sell my n3ds now.. i"ll just keep my Nintendo ID and serial number and someday in the future if I get a new one, I will just contact customer service?

And it's confirmed that if I buy a 2ds, transfer will not work?

Wow I forgot how slow the Wii U eShop was and how unpleasant that makes it to just browse. Anyone try this Lost Reavers beta?

Probably but your entirely subject to their whims and I don't think that's any more officially supported than getting them to transfer to a 2DS.

How come companies don't put their prequels on sale when new games come out like FE:A or Bravely Default? Seems like a good way to get people to bite on the next one - sort of like releasing the latest season on Netflix a week before the next season comes out

I'd be more insulted if they gave me nothing at all, like every other company.
lol..."giving" Please, they're incorporating everything you pay into that expense. Don't get me wrong - it's better than nothing. I was just laughing at the idea that buying something is akin to beating a game or getting another similar achievement. There's nothing extraordinary about swiping your credit card.

Huh? I never debated that. This was a simple observation - they call buying a game a "mission" or "achievement." And it's silly. That is all. Really has nothing to do with the actual quality and lure of the program.
...Are you RollingSkull?

Just wanted to share in case you guys haven't seen this yet. :grouphug:

This isn't recommended. Selling a 3DS then getting customer service to re-associate your account and digital purchases to a new 3DS is up to the discretion of CS, given that the process isn't officially supported.

I hear they are much more lenient than they used to be, but it still is not official procedure.

like most people it absolutely blows me away how incompetent their system and policy is for digital content and the account involved

it's no wonder the wii u bombed but it's very unfortunate because like most nintendo systems it's a really fun machine with awesome games

it's almost amazing to me that such an established company can miss the mark so bad. I love the wii u though despite its flaws and sure as heck hope they learned from it and make the NX the success it deserves to be

*cough cough* and completely BC including controllers *cough*

Nintendo is an absurd company for sure.

Also, don't new deals usually go up after a sale ends (3DS) or do I have the wrong idea about when Nintendo updates their eShops?

It is unfortunate, but 3DS is a fantastic system. U not so much, though it has some great games.

A lot of the organizational changes Iwata made from 2012-2015 were to address the flaws in their approach to system design, both hardware and software, as well as services. Unified platforms, unified services and so on should arrive with NX, as seen with the investor meeting slides that are often brought up in such discussions. He even moved out multiple old school managers to accomplish such.

What do you think this is? PSN? XBL? Nintendo only runs a sale every three months or so.
