Just 8 days to go. Despite what seems like the entire internet wishing for this system to fail I have to say I'm pretty damn hyped for a new Nintendo console finally about to release. This is going to be the first midnight release I go to since (I think) the Master Chief Collection. What a disaster that game was at launch lol.

Same, this will be the second midnight release I attend for a console. The first one was the original Switch

Almost all complaints I've seen are people complaining about the game prices, which is much less immediately pertinent if you got the Mario Kart bundle and/or already own the games getting paid Switch 2 upgrades

Other than that, I've seen pretty much zero complaints about the device itself. Of course you're gonna get the mouthbreathers complaining that a tablet-sized $450 portable can "only" match/beat the performance of PS4 Pro and not PS5 in Cyberpunk or Street Fighter. But these people were probably never gonna buy the thing anyway

No need to pay any mind to the outrage bait articles and videos, that's how they get their clicks. It's okay to be excited

You must not be looking very hard. I see complaints about the price of a console from a lot of users including myself and others here. It's overpriced. Pretty soon we'll have digital foundry or someone else take apart the switch 2 and estimate how much it costs Nintendo to make each one. I'm very confident it's nowhere close to $449.

Again, I don't put much stock in mouthbreathers complaining that a tablet-sized portable can't match up to a PC-sized brick in performance. If someone wants to compare apples to oranges in bad faith, that's on them

For what you get, the system objectively not overpriced. There is no handheld device with similar specs that you can get for a similar price, let alone for notably cheaper

If someone doesn't think it's worth the price to them personally, whatever. But to call it overpriced is incorrect

So, like a month or so after the price of the switch 2 is announced and the same price complainers are back. It's kind of funny watching someone Troll... so relentlessly desperate for attention or anything new because the shtick is getting old. I feel kind of dumb trying to legit help the unhelpable when they couldn't figure out that you can't continue to game share anyway if you don't update firmware... but they never were interested in that feature, just finding something to complain about and troll. When all you have to contribute is bitching, it kind of exposes your intentions.

Don't feed the Troll.

I'm looking forward to the Switch 2 feedback from those getting them. I was late for preorders of the original Switch and had to wait for restocks, and it seems that's where I am again. I'm glad Walmart's Onn brand has some more affordable card options. Hopefully that turns out to be the ideal workaround to getting extra storage. I'll likely be keeping an eye out for stock at Walmart showing locally.

I can’t comment on the Onn brand cards, but the few times I bought anything electronic from them it’s been very lackluster. So they are on my ‘no buy’ list.

I ordered the Samsung 256 gb Nintendo branded one from Target and hope that will hold me over until Samsung or Sandisk make larger capacity ones at more affordable prices.

Besides the Mario bundle I have preordered, the only game I am picking up at launch is Rune Factory. I want to support a 3rd party that uses actual carts, not key cards.

Again, nobody gives a shit how the console does; they crossed the line with $80 games stating it was only possible to create with the pricepoint. Pure bullshit when we already have games like FH5 that I guarantee offer more content and map size by comparison. Nintendo has always been low input, high return but they shit the bed with this one.

Show me another tablet as powerful as the Switch 2 that’s cheaper.

Personally, I'm not in the business of judging how other people spend thier money, at least verbally. I'm just fine, myself, with what I've got in hand and on shelf, and while I'm not naive enough to think that it will just "be cheaper" in a few months, I've got zero motivation to buy at launch, and am fine with letting other people "beta test" the device, and allow enough time for some of the non Nintendo things, like cases, peripherals and those micro SD express cards to go down after some time. I do hope those buying at launch are happy with your purchases. Life is too short to not enjoy the little things then they come along.

The Walmart Onn MicroSD Express cards are in stock for shipping right now...

$66 512GB Onn MicroSD Express card : https://www.walmart.com/ip/ONN-MICRO-SD-EXPRESS/15708762625

$36 256 Onn MicroSD Express card: https://www.walmart.com/ip/ONN-MICRO-SD-EXPRESS/15706752314?

Someone said that PNY has a deal to manufacturer store brand cards for Walmart, so the current assumption is that these are PNY cards...

Both are back in stock for those interested. (Could vary by region)

I just grabbed another 512gb for my son's Switch 2.

So the Onn cards, they are made in Taiwan. The packaging also shows Switch 2 compatibility. Onn has had other sd cards that are typically either Sandisk or PNY, both of which manufacture out of Taiwan. It’s believed these are PNY cards, but the ones that maybe don’t pass the claims of their cards which are 890 MB/s read, 750 write… which makes sense as the Onn version is only claiming 800 read and 600 write on the packaging. There’s a Reddit thread covering this, which is where I caught picks of the packaging. I looked up the other speed stats. It’s also possible it’s Sandisk, which are 880/650. Which does line up a bit better with expected read and write being basically 10% less on the onn version.

So you might be getting slightly less speed, but this is still monumentally faster than original switch. A 10% hit may be just smoke and mirrorsand these hit higher specs but they don’t want to advertise it and take away from name brand sales. It seems like a fair trade off even if the speeds are true for the cheaper price.

figured some here might want the tech side of this.

Thanks nightc1.

I plan to upgrade to a 1TB card or larger once they become more widely available.

For the short term these cards should work out for us, especially at the price point versus the few current name brands. Will be curious on the speeds once we get to test them starting next Thursday. If they are a bust, I will return.

Will also monitor what the wonderful world wide web gets to say after testing them the first week on the Switch 2.

You're fine not judging how others spend money but you need to make sure you post this dig about those of us buying one, that we are beta testers, which has already been posted in this board before. As if we are buying a Google Stadia or something from a company new to the gaming market.
You're buying an unreviewed product, without public testing of launch units, with a variety of unknown or immature software systems. They can't even boot games (or some such) without a Day One patch.

Once again, you do you, but you're buying in sight unseen, is a willingness to swallow the product warts and all.

I'm saying this as someone who Day One two Zune variants, the Xbox 360, and the Oculus Rift to make sure you know I'm not 'being a troll.'

You're "beta testing" the Switch 2. It's fine to call a spade a spade. Being mad about it makes the assumption on your part that this is a problem or something not worth your time or money. (The royal you, in this case)

And before a retort "but, Nintendo," the OG Switch launch units had issues from warping in the dock, the back plastic cracking, and a few other issues, so yes, it's quite possible there could be a deal breaker present universally, or specifically to you.

Navigating 2012-2015 SATA SSD speeds lol. On overpriced flash cart memory.

You're right of course.

But I get much more value out Nintendo developed games and consoles. They're one of the only publishers doing things the correct way on a more consistent basis. I like polished, complete retail games with loads of content.

Back on the tech side of the express cards, the writes speeds and sustained write speeds vary from card to card even within the same manufacturer. Onn doesn't list the sustained write speed. Just, verify you are cool with the read speed most of all as that's where playing games matters. The write comes in for downloading and moving between internal and external storage. It might also matter if the switch does some kind of "install" type procedure after a download where it expands content in place. But for gaming, it's the lower cost at 800 MB/s read vs the 880 (edit: typed 800 by mistake ) MB/s read at a higher cost. Personally, it's a very small sacrifice by benchmark standards. I think it comes down to around 1 second difference in loading a game. I'd imagine someone will benchmark these soon... so if you want to wait, keep an eye on reddit for some comparison numbers.

Personally, I salute you early adopters. I've done this for other hardware and sometimes it is kind of great being there day 1 for a product. Same for certain game releases. It sucks some are giving you guys flack rather than just being happy that there are peeps on the front lines who will provide some feedback to those of us who missed preorders or those here who have been burned by MS a few too many times... or just have no desire to buy yet.

I don't think SanDisk even has a 512gb express card yet

It might not be in the wild, I couldn't tell. But it is a thing and here is a place to preorder one in the uk.

It also shows the packaging and the speeds I posted. I'm too lazy to go look further, just wanted to clear up that I wasn't BS'ing any numbers.

In theory, shouldn't there be SOME way to determine the manufacturer of these private label flash cards? No ID codes or anything? I haven't opened my package yet, but I assume if there was any identifiable information, it would have been posted by now.

I posted an update on the tariffs which Nintendo blamed for price increases. What a rest exactly? Posting updates about events that directly affect our hobby?

How am I trolling? I'm just posting brand new information about tariffs which affect our hobby of gaming.
Your "commentary" along with your link is meant to get a rise out of people. You do this shit a couple times a week. It's sad and played

Once again, prices does not go back to previous pre-tariffs level immediately and in some case they do not at all. Damages has already been done. There were lot of money, time, and resources spent on trying to mitigate the full impact of the potential tariff.

Currency conversion and USD exchange rate is why you can purchase a Switch 2 in Japan lowered than in the U.S. The USD is stronger than the Yen, which is very weak now.
