Been away from Nintendo for a while and picked up a $299 Splatoon OLED bundle at Walmart. I have 300 Platinum coins in my Nintendo account. Am I able to use these coins for digital software purchases? If so, am I only able to do so via the online store accessed via the switch? Thanks in advance for any help.
Platinum coins, no. Gold coins, yes. Platinum are good for like user icons if you have nintendo online and also for some random digital stuff over on the my.nintendo.com website.

Anyone expecting an announcement or trailer from Nintendo tomorrow night at the game awards?

Well, I've finally confirmed something that I had been wondering about...

If you have a physical game and download an update... you can't revert the update.

If you uninstall/archive/delete all the game data, popping the cart back in won't let you play. Unless you download the update, the game is unplayable. Even if you delete all save data for the title, you are unable to launch the game if it was updated in the past.

I assume you could wipe/reset the system and be able to play, but it appears that you can't attempt to roll back an update on a physical game.

A bunch of Mystery Gifts and events in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Darkrai is available until Dec 21 with the code NEWM00N1SC0M1NG.

Shiny Lucario is available until Jan 3 with SH1NYBUDDY.

Random Herba Mystica with code SWEET0RSP1CY until next September 30.

Team Star's Revaroom is available until next October with code TEAMSTAR.

A Master Ball will be available through regular Internet distribution from Dec 14 to Jan 3.

Dialga and Palkia are also available through 5-star Tera Raid battles until Dec 21. Mass outbreaks of Flabebe in Paldea, Litwick in Kitakami (first DLC) and Milcery in Blueberry Academy (second DLC available on Dec 14) until Dec 21, with increased chances of finding shinies.

Was not expecting Hogwarts Legacy to go on sale this fast it's $41 dollars rn. Anyone played it on Switch? Reviews seemed pretty good. Was looking at grabbing it here over my xbox bc of portability factor.

Edit: Found a Digital Foundry video which really pushed me towards the series x version

Odd, I've done this before to see the difference and didn't get this issue. Which game were you trying it on?

I'd like to know as well. Is the extra cost of the Definitive Edition worth it?

Digital Foundry definitely painted it as the worst way to play it. Constant frame drops, long load times in open world that you wouldn't find in any other version along with other expected Switch downgrades. They did a whole video about it, but basically if you have other means to play it, go for that because it is greatly compromised on Switch.

Atari 50 -- although this is interesting, if it differs depending on the title.

Assuming I didn't do something wrong, I:

  • Had Atari 50 on 1.0, with saved game. I backed up the save to the Nintendo online system.
  • I updated, played for a bit, and ended with a "new" save from the update.
  • I then removed the card and archived the software. I then put the cart back in...
    • The game shows as version 1.0. I tested it with a "newer" save file, and it demanded an update, which I expected.
    • I removed the cart, deleted the title, AND deleted the local save file.
    • Inserting the cart shows as version 1.0, but it refuses to start without an update. I only get two options (Cancel, or Update) -- Cancel returns to the menu.
As far as I can tell, deleting the title doesn't appear to let you roll back the update... but perhaps it's dependent on something else, or perhaps I missed something?

I've definitely noticed not being able to play older versions of a cart after it's been updated on my system. I was going to bring it up when it happened, but I figured it was common knowledge that I was unaware of because I'm a pretty new Switch owner.

accounts.nintendo.com has a general summary page of your account -- and, until today, it also contained a link to an eshop summary page. This page included a web version of your wishlist.

The eShop link has vanished from accounts.Nintendo.com. You can access a purchase history, but I can't seem to find a link to the old wish list ...

You can reach the OLD eShop page from https://ec.nintendo.com/my -- it looks like they might be wrapping most of the functionality into the main accounts page.

Nice to see three games drop for N64. Hoping not done for December with dropping another game or two for regular NSO subscribers.

With DK Land opening in 2024 in Japan, to me that would be the perfect time to drop DK64 and Diddy Kart racing into the service

I just got that during the cyber monday BB sales... I might try and see how it all works and where the limits are. I have a switch (original release) as well as a switch lite and my kids have switch systems (2nd chip version and an OLED version) so I can do a bunch of testing and if it's device based, cart based, or something else like specific profiles or if cloud save affects it.

As far as I can tell, deleting the title doesn't appear to let you roll back the update... but perhaps it's dependent on something else, or perhaps I missed something?
Once you update a game the Switch will not let you play with an older version. The only way around this is to do a full factory restore on the Switch. It is like this for all games, physical or digital and has been since the Switch came out.

So it's the system then. Interesting.

I've always assumed that's the case, but various folks across the internet have claimed they've been able to "delete" an update from their system and play the physical game without an update. What's probably happening is that they think you can do that, and keep saying you can.

Thanks for that list, hamadto. Decided to finally get That War of Mine. $1.99 was too good a deal to pass up, although such heavy games are rarely my taste. Seems a moving experience though.
(PS. Finally on this site. It made me change my password to get back here.)

I have an extra Pirates All Aboard code from the No Gravity mailing list if anyone had issues getting it and needs the free game to start claiming the others, just send me a pm.

Edit: Sent to Moofboy.

Creepy Tale 2 is the NoGravity game for today. So far nothing new for me and I'll probably forget about this during the weekend. Kind of interesting the last day (20th) has two games.

23 Games - 224 Hours

First Game of 2023: Picross S8

1. Pikmin TM 4 - 61 Hours
2. The Legend of Zelda TM: Tears of the Kingdom - 57 Hours
3. Picross S9 - 32 Hours

Most Played Month: May - 76 Hours

Surprised it got Pikmin 4 right since the profile hour count on my Switch is over 200 hours because I accidentally left it at the title screen in the dock for a week without realizing it.

22 Games for 160 hours

First game played - Bayonetta 3

Top 3
- Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 83 hours
- Fire Emblem Engage - 31 hours
- Metroid Prime Remastered - 15 hours (and I still feel like half of that was just running back and forth because there's no fast travel still)

I've spread pretty evenly between the big three consoles. Though I did play some 3DS, I played more Vita (and ashamedly, not much Dreamcast).

Mine is pretty sad... 14 games... 8 hours total.. with 3 hours being F-Zero 99. Not really that surprising. I've been in a slump the last two years on playing games. But I feel like I'm starting to get the itch to play something seriously again and have a lot of solid options.

5 games - 83 hours
1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 83 hours
2. Grandia HD Collection - less than 1 hour
3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - less than 1 hour

I have a tendency to leave games running while not playing them. That being said, I've got 688 hours in Rocket League, 394 in Omega Labyrinth Life, and 44 in The Legend of Dark Witch, followed closely by Super Mario RPG.

2023 Switch wrap up:

I had less than 20 hours total in 2022 so this is a big jump.

4 games 128 hours

First game of 2023 - TMNT: Shredders Revenge

1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 108 hrs
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 14 hrs
3. Astral Chain - 4 hrs

Good last hurrah for the Switch. Most of my gaming was on PS5 and Miyoo Mini Plus.

Got my switch in April of this year so I would think after logging hours into it and buying a bunch of games I would have data right? Nope Nintendo is throwing me an error

Oh no! We don't see enough play data on this Nintendo Account to continue this experience.
