Well, after a couple of badly-handled orders from Buy.com, I think I'm done with them for any DVD or BR order. Let me explain what happened.

I had placed an order for Big O and Big O II when they had them for $14.00 each with free shipping on orders over $25. Ordered on 11/14/09, arrived about a week later, on 11/23/09. Big O II was damaged in shipment with one of the discs pretty badly scratched up, though it was due to their packaging. They packed both of them together in a bubble mailer barely bigger than both the DVD cases put together, so there was nothing to prevent it from getting damaged in shipment.

They process damaged item issues in two ways. You can either send back the damaged item for replacement or return/rebuy. The replacement works that they send you a label to send the item back to them, they process the item as defective and send back a new copy of the item to you. Return/rebuy works similarly, though you're making a new order and sending the old one back as a refund. They still send you a label for the return of the defective order at their expense. As I'd rather not keep Buy.com billing/crediting my credit card, I set it up for a replacement.

Buy.com takes a week or more to process the replacement order once they receive the defective one, so they didn't send out the replacement order until 12/09/09 and it didn't ship until 12/11/09, after they had received it on 12/02/09. I asked them to upgrade the shipping on it, due to the issue, and they didn't. Replacement item arrived on 12/17/09, and some genius had packed the first season of The Big Bang Theory in the package, instead of Big O II. :wall: Went through the replacement process again, shipped it back to them, and they received it on 12/23/09.

Once again, they set up the replacement order a week later, also sent out via UPS Mail Innovations like the first two packages. Third one arrived about a week ago, also damaged in shipment. Thankfully, the discs weren't damaged, though they center spindle for the discs was damaged. I asked them for a $4 credit to replace the case, and they agreed.

The other order I placed about 10 days after Big O & Big O II was for Witchblade: The Complete Series, which they had at $14.95 + $2.95 shipping, which was about $20 or more cheaper than Amazon had it at the time, so I ordered it from them.

To summarize that second mess, it was more of the same. I dealt with three damaged shipments from them, all shipped the same way with the bubble mailer barely larger than the DVD case, and went through the replacement process twice. Every single time, one or more of the discs were damaged in shipment, due to the improper packaging of this thin bubble mailer. On the third time, I told them I was done with this order, and set it up for a refund. I waited out their seven days and I still didn't have a credit back from them. I emailed them and threatened them with a chargeback if they didn't refund my money immediately. Magically, they claimed there was "an error with processing the refund due to system issues that are now fixed " that caused the issue with the refund. Once I received that email, they did credit my card a couple of days later.

Amazon had it for a couple dollars more at the time of all this mess, so I ordered it from them and had it arrive without issue.

So, if you're planning to order from Buy.com for DVD's or BR's, beware of their packaging, if you could call it that. Also, replacements take forever to deal with. I'm done dealing with them for anything that won't get shipped in a box or could get damaged in shipment due to poor packaging.

I've had plenty of problem-free orders from Buy.com, though recently, they seem to have embraced the suck very hard. Their CS was a real pain to deal with on the phone, and their email responses weren't done in the timeframe they listed. I'd think hard about using them again in the future.

As I said, I've had plenty of problem-free orders from them, even for DVD's and BR's. Just recently, two bad orders that were huge ordeals, that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Yeah, Buy.com lost my business when they sent me an open box SFIV:TE stick as NEW. It was my first and last order with them.

I've actually had the same problem happen to me. I bought a 360 black wireless controller advertised as new and it was damaged while in transit. The markings were pretty bad and parts of the plastic blister packaging was torn open. I requested a replacement, sent it back, and received another controller.

Funny thing was, they sent me back the same controller with identical markings and package damage as the first one, indicating that it was same one they sent me the first time. The only time I buy from buy.com is when I'm ordering a non-fragile item like a xbox 360 12 month subscription they have on sale from time to time for $30-35

I haven't used them in ages. My last two orders with them (I think) were:

Some crappy dvd/media player that had a rebate. They sent me a unit that was DOA, and wanted everything sent back in the RMA or said I'll be charged a restocking fee. I sent it back, but it took a week or two to process, and they sent me a new unit. By the time it arrived, the rebate expired and neither Buy.com nor the rebate company wanted to help me.

I also pre-ordered Disgaea PSP from them. After release, it said OOS for a week or two, and mine never shipped. About a month later, it shows up as in stock, and they still haven't shipped it to me. I asked them about it, and they said it'll ship. A few more weeks go past, and I just said screw it, and cancelled the order. All this time, the site said in stock.

I might have gotten Solty Rei from them after that, but it was off their ebay account, which I didn't realize till I got the package.

Brought some DVD DL on their ebay deal of the day with no problem. Same with remote plus. Both came in a box with enough packing material

Every game I've ever bought from them took 2-3 weeks to get here. Even one where I paid for shipping. I remember I pre-ordered SFIV from them, and then it said back-ordered.It stayed in that status forever so I canceled it.

BTW, I just remembered. I knew of at least one person who ordered Disgaea PSP after me, and got it shipped immediately, while mine was still in limbo for over a month. That really did piss me off.

shrike, you didn't do it right, you're supposed order enough stuff to automatically warrant a box..j/k!

terrible experience! thanks for alerting us to this :)
you should always check reselleratings.com before shopping online
currently buy.com is rated 4.16/10
which is pretty bad
I've had plenty of places that I've had no issues with that ResellerRatings.com marked as bad, including Buy.com. I've made a couple dozen orders with them over the years, and up until these pair of issues, I've had no problems at all. I'd like to think it was atypical, though I know better now.
I have had no problems with Buy.com so far.
As did I, before this whole mess.

terrible experience! thanks for alerting us to this :)
If they had enough that warranted a box that I'd want to buy in one sitting, then it would be a non-issue. Since Amazon has been blowing them out of the water for the most part, save the occasional item, I've not been in that position to order that much from Buy.com.

10 years ago I use to buy a lot of DVD's from them because they were cheaper than in store prices (during that time period). I had no problems back then with them. Yea a lot can happen in 10 years and it's sad to see that a company that I thought was great back than has gone down the toilet.

You want bad I ordered the hardback witchblade compendium from them a while ago. its a 1050 page hardback book. They sent me someones custom made $5 coffee mug.

When I contacted them and they looked up the order size they said it was possible they had made a mistake and made me go thru the same hassle. Waited a week and a half to get label. 2 weeks for them to process return, another week for them to re-send, then another 2 weeks for it to arrive.

They wouldn't bump up shipping as a courtesy, offer discount, anything. Extremely rude and frustrating.

On the plus side at least you can watch Witchblade now Shrike :)
