Official 2008 Yard Sale Thread

Didn't see much this weekend. However, was walking through my neighborhood around 5 p.m. and decided to drop by a house that was having a yard sale earlier in the day. I knew they had some games, but most were pretty banged up and they weren't budging on price. So, went through the games and picked up Kingdom Hearts II and DK Bongos. CIF $5 and she stuck to $5 each. Took KHII and left the Bongos. Just don't have the room for them and I don't have the DK game either. Might of been a bad choice, oh well.

Did pick up a pretty cool pair of purple Chuck Taylor's for my daughter. Too bad I didn't wait to put together a purple Pikmin outfit for her. That way she wouldn't have to be accused of being a member of the Klan. Told my wife about the Pikmin costume comments and she was pretty amused. As always with me, my best intentions seem to come back and bite me in the ass.

Update from last week. Didn't post anything from last weekend, but after the dry spell this weekend, my finds appear bountiful. I will consolidate my finds. 2 Silver Gameboy Advance SPs, about 12 decent Gameboy games, and 7 XBox games for $30. Snoopy vs. the Red Baron (PS2) and Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (PS2) $5.

Looks like I will be out of GS circulation for a couple weeks. Taking the family on vacation and will be on the road the next couple Saturdays. Will be checking in though, so good luck everybody.

I think GameStop's current price for them is $3.99, so I think you'll be okay.

Finally got my first garage sale video game pickup, all cartridge only for NES:

Elevator Action
Fester's Quest
Kid Icarus

Left behind Bases Loaded and Tetris (already have both). Guy said $2 each, but I CIF'd $4 and he took it.

Sorry fellow CAGers.. gotta put all yall to shame here. This is almost unbelieveable, I'll provide picks if I have to:

First Yard Sale trip this year:

GRANDIA ps1(mint and complete) $1 :hot::hot::hot::hot:
Silent Hill ps1(mint and complete) $1:hot::hot::hot::hot:
RE Directors Cut ps1 (cracked case but complete) $1

Star Wars :KOTOR xbox $5

Now, If I can just find a Vagrant Story ps1 this year....

Wow, it sounds like a lot of you guys found some really awesome, rare stuff this weekend! Congrats!

I still have yet to see Silent Hill, or for that matter any non-RE survival horror (excluding Eternal Darkness), or a watermelon N64 in the wild.

I might head out again tomorrow morning, I'll probably compile a list now.

I took a trip to a Citywide sale in a city I had never been to before...when I got there, the city was more like a small village. There were maybe 10-15 sales in the whole place, it was pretty much a big bust. I only picked up one gaming-related item.

NES Advantage - 10 cents

There were signs for one large sale, it was two parallel streets. For some reason it was scheduled for Sunday, but I checked yesterday to make sure it was right. I went down yesterday, 1 sale, so I thought there would be tons of sales, but there were 3.
3 out of about 100 houses.
So then I visited about 10 more sales, saw a ps2, but I didn't have much money, and at another place I asked if he had any old video games, and he said "Oh like Atari?" and I responded "yes", and he said "Yep, I definitely don't have any of that"
Oh well, there's still all summer.
Me too. I use to have that as a kid, but I had to sell my NES. I've been wanting to find that and Contra. I was never very good at either game, but they were fun.
I found a kid icarus this year, and got a contra for free from craigslist. I was super happy after looking all last year.

The first sale had some shitty PSX games (mostly kids stuff) that they wanted $2 each for and shitty DVDs that they wanted $3 each for. No negotiation. I was out of there, but they took forever figuring their stuff out and wasted a lot of time.

Then a few sales had nothing.

Then I went to a multi-family sale that was advertised, but no signs and no street # in the ad.

2521274435_2cecc32915.jpg

Asked about games and they came out with these. Whatever, for a buck each I'll take 'em. $3.

Then, for a while, there was nothing. And then...

2521274337_308a2af320.jpg

This was an unadvertised sale on the way from one sale to another. Saw a lonely (yet complete, even with expansion pack) N64 with no games sitting in their driveway when I arrived. They asked if I was looking for more video games, and they said all that they had was in this box...full of Xbox classic games. There wasn't anything too awesome there, but they said they only wanted $0.50 per game...so I offered $5 for everything. 17 Xbox games and a Nintendo 64.

This was from something that was advertised but not advertised as being at a storage facility, so I drove up and down the road three times before seeing them put the signs out like ten minutes after it was supposed to start. The lady was being really cunty and wanted $15 for what I ended up with, along with Alone in the Dark on DVD (Uwe lol) and some N64 hookups and two shitty sports games (which I initially offered $3 on). Apparently her son gets first dibs on all gaming stuff thats abandoned.
2521274529_cacc0585bb.jpg

Only gaming item of any interest. $5, can't say no to GBA games for less than a buck each.

So this was out of roughly 15 sales over 40-50 miles. Everything was far apart and there were some addresses that weren't even there (I had an address for 151 on a road, but the number skipped from 165 to 127. This happened twice. Where the fuck do these people live, Grimmauld Place?)

Eh, I got decent stuff for my $13 today, but nothing that I couldn't have done without. I doubt most of the original Xbox games will see play anytime soon with my PS2/360/Wii/Retro backlog, since the original Xbox didn't have anything that screamed amazing.

Pretty good finds at the swap meet today. ^_^
:psx:Koudelka mint complete---$9
They wanted $10 and wouldn't go any lower.
:psx:The Granstream Saga sealed but has a little sun damage on the front cover---$10 Debating whether or not to open it.

Wow, not bad! Keep it sealed -- you can always snag a copy for 200 Goozex points to play.
:rofl::rofl::rofl:

its funny cause my friends parents are the same way, and hes 16!
Its even shittier because I asked them if I could trade games online and they said it was fine. Then a couple weeks later I actually got a trade set up and was gonna take the bus to the post office to ship it and they were like "WTF you gave some random stranger our address!."

PayPal shipping = they never even know there was a transaction.

But my parent's don't care anyway. I guess because my mom did so much ebay, she felt comfortable giving out addresses.

No. You don't need a credit card to make a PayPal account.

You do need to link it up with your bank account. But just say you need to use PayPal to shop on some online sites or something like that, which is the truth.

Then just get some money into the account either through bank transfer or selling something.

I was going to a few of my friends graduation partys tonight and saw a sunday/monday sale. I stoppped in and they had a bunch of crappy games that were marked up rediculously high so i passed..

My parents were pretty much the same way until well after I finished college.

I actually managed to go to one yard sale, and it had a box of Atari 2600s (three consoles) and about 60 some games all for $3!

Only cart that really stood out to me was one that didn't have a label, I played it and it's Pepsi Invaders.

According to atariage there were only 125 copies of that game made, I can't find it on ebay either. I don't know what to do with it, the game works. Suggestions?

Holy shit.
According to digitalpress it has a rarity of 10!!
It's valued at $500!!
You hit the jackpot it seems. Keep us posted with regards to what you do with it!
I imagine its value would be less with the missing label. It's hard to tell how much less, though.
According to Digital Press, the game didn't come with a label. That's an awesome find. As a collector, I would be tempted to keep that, though I could use that money. The rarest thing I have is an R7.

It also depends if it is an erom or rom cart, but it sounds like he has the rom version. The option to send it to me is still available since I am an Atari collector.

ala wikipedia,

The product itself was not commercially released, and only 125 copies of Pepsi Invaders were made. As a result, it became one of the rarest Atari 2600 games in existence. In October of 2005 one of the game cartridges was auctioned off on eBay, and the winning bid was $1,825. The game's ROM eventually made its way out into circulation.

Damn! Good luck with the eBay auction that I'm certain you'll be holding very, very soon. :applause:

I opened up the case to make sure that it wasn't a fake, and I double checked with a picture I managed to find online. It's legit :D, it says K39 on the chip, whatever that means.

Definitely my best yard sale find....ever, I think I'm actually going to keep it

Damn me and my collecting tendencies. :p

Congrats!

Got a picture of it, so the rest of us know what to look out for? I could have a hidden treasure in that tub of 2600 games I've got. Most likely the ones I have with no label are just 10 copies of combat and swordquest!

Actually if you have swordquest waterworld it is worth some cash...Now I am going to have to bust out my atari games. I can't get on digital press right now...The page isnt loading.

Ya I keep looking for that one, I keep finding the other 2 in the series, but not that one. :(

The Atari lot I just got rid of on eBay (like 100+ cartridges, it sold for just under $40 with $40 shipping that barely covered the actual cost) had a couple each of SQ: Fireworld and Earthworld or whatever the other one was. =/ It really sucked.

just bought 3 gamecube games for €13

icongamecube.gif
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
icongamecube.gif
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tommorow
icongamecube.gif
Tom Clancy'sGhost Recon 2

Wow, I don't see how you can hold onto it considering you can maybe get a grand for it.

I'd be crapping my pants with eBay happiness. And it's not like I'd actually play the game.

I don't blame him for not selling it, I have found rare games(not that rare) and sold them then later regretted it.

He's got it down, I used to have both of the Tomba! games, and a few other nice rarer ones. But I sold them, and now whenever I think "Oh, I'm in the mood for some awesome Tomba! action", I get a little depressed.

My other thinking is...with each year that passes a few of the 125 carts are going to get lost, broken, forgotten about, etc. The price can only go up so long as there's still Atari collectors out there.

Edit: I'll try to get pics of the thing later tonight.

There's a difference between Tomba and a game that goes for $500 (or whatever it will go for). Since my house is full of nothingness entertainment wise, Im coming from a completely different viewpoint than you probably are. I have all the systems, but I just use blockbuster game pass. Why? I play games for about 3 days and then I normally get tired of the vast majority.

I am of the mindset that cash trumps all. Do you honestly in your heart of hearts think you will EVER play that game? Im guessing probably not. Let's be honest going back to your Tomba example. There is a HUGE difference between a fun game and Im guessing a pretty primitive game (though Im the type if someone offered me $50 for Tomba, it would be gone).

If you are willing to pass up the cash on it, then more power to you (or if you have no need for it), but I can guarantee you you will be happier in the long run if you sell it and use the cash for something.

Not trying to persuade you but I just don't get the whole collecting thing.

I see what you're saying, but it seems like MORE are being discovered every year. There were 125 made, but only about 22? have been accounted for. So yes, this number discovered will go up, but at the same time the number of games thrown out/crushed will go up.
I think I just talked in a circle, but basically, I'd hold onto it.
I think he meant that he'll keep it for collection purposes, but later on he might sell it because the price can only keep going up.
That's what a lot of people said about games before they got reprinted by GameQuestDirect.

Obviously there is a difference between those games and this one, but you get to the point of being greedy and just getting what you can get. If I had a $500-$1000 cartridge sitting in my hand that I would never even use, I would be gone of it very very quickly. Why? You never know what will happen as soon as tomorrow.

I get collecting, and would probably keep it if this game was worth $50-200, but a thousand dollars. That's a lot of money you could use to get tons of games that you'd actually play. :D
