Official 2008 Yard Sale Thread
and stacks of Jumpstart Kindergarten-4th grade.
You always have to check a stack of stuff like this carefully as you never know what treasures you may find hidden beneath, assuming it's not all edu-tainment stuff. Some freebie PC software that came with a 10 year old computer or maybe even some Christmas CDs ;)

I gotta a kind of funny story. I went a rummage today and was looking for games. So I get there and ask for games when some lady just ran up and was like where are the games. Luckily there was nothing I wanted so I left. So I'm at my third rummage waiting for him to open up. Then I see the lady pull up and she saw me so she quickly ran to the games. I started laughing in my head when I saw it so I went to see what he had. She quickly snatched the gh2 with the guitar and was like I'm taking this. I started to laugh cuz I already had it an didn't need it. I asked about older
Games when I saw the flea market dealer come in to ask about games. I quickly grabbed earthworm jim super street fighter 2 and sonic and knuckles for the genny. They were all boxes and looked surprisingly new. I took all the good stuff so all there was left were sports games. funny cuz I hear these stories on hear but never thought it would happen to me

Ok, I met the guy today, as a recap he claimed to have "3 big ol boxes" and I estimated it to probably be about 60 or 70 games. I was wrong.

LARGE VERSION

Everything with the exception of the 2 stacks on the far left were in the "big ol boxes", pretty much all PC games, DVD and CD Box Sets and nice expensive Audiobooks. He told me over the phone that it would be 125.00 for everything. Now, the last two stacks, the one next to the last with the small jewel cases are all "value" PC games, when I got there today I asked him if he had any of the games left over from the yard sale that I didn't buy, which were these, and that if he wanted to sell em cheap I'd buy em. Well...he threw them in for free. So as it looks it's about 150 games there.

Now, the DVD stack on the end, he asked me if I wanted to buy any DVDs and I told him I'd take a look at what he had. These are all used, there's about 50 there, but he only wanted 15 bucks for em all. :)

He claims that he can get me a LOT of opened, but not used, games. He can get those as well as value games and sell them CHEAP. His emphasis, not mine. I told him to go for it.

Also, in about a week and a half he says he'll have some 360, PS3 and Wii games for me, I asked him how much they'd run me, and he said "oh, probably about 4.00 each, but if you're buying all of them from me I'll let em go cheap like these PC games." He said "the guy he's dealing with" already promised him he'd hold him 20 copies of Madden 09....

EDIT: Oh, the CD box set on top, the "Firesign Theater's Box Of Danger" doesn't get released until September 30th.

The ones that aren't kiddie/educational/casual shovelware are:

Divine Divinity (who the hell thought THAT name up!)
Pacific Storm
Trainz: Driver Edition
Disciples Gold 2
Trainz: Railroad Simulator
Restaurant Empire
Crazy Machines
Glory Of The Roman Empire

....and Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Version 18!
Nice stuff, CMOS. I know you'll make a lot more flipping it, but throw a little love CAG's way if you can...
I've had a lot of people PMing me and such over this stuff, but the thing is I buy and resell for a living, so it's my sole source of income. While I'd love to sell to everyone that contacted me for not much more than I paid for it, I really can't, as this is paying bills for my wife and I.

Now, I will sell it to you guys though, at a discount, but not "5 bucks a pop" discount or anything like that. So with that in mind feel free to shoot me a PM over something you want and we can discuss it.

I can currently handle the volume I'm getting, but the way he talks I may be getting more than I can handle, if that happens I'd be more than willing to sell even cheaper.
and stacks of Jumpstart Kindergarten-4th grade. If I get directed to a stack of Old Kids Edu-Tainment again I may have to take a trick from the guys in the Gamestop thread, knock over a table and burn rubber out of the driveway(while aiming for small pets).

P.S. Am I the only one that runs into acouple mini Chiuahas each week?
You guys do realize that children's games sell extremely well on ebay. Even if you think its a stupid title buy it and flip it, of course only if the price is right. Better yet a good reason to bargain for a better price because you can say its a bad game. Either that or you can lie and say you are buying it for your cousin/sibling but your not sure if they will like it or not. If you can get a whole pile of children's edutainment games really cheap you can probably make some money selling it off in a lot. I had some of these games that I got from a bag sale and I sold them at my yard sale last year and they were some of the most popular items, everyone was buying them.

I have a question for everyone. Has anyone laughed at you for asking if the seller has any video games? I went to a sale today and I asked the usual question, "Do you have any video games for sale?" The lady was about to respond when a shopper standing next to her started laughing at me. I dont know if this has happened to people before or if I just ran into an old bitch at a garage sale.

Never, and I ask at every yard sale and have been yardsaleing almost every weekend for the past 8-10 years.

You just ran into an old bitch, fuck her, don't let her bring you down.

I get a chuckle from someone just about every time I ask if they have video games and they don't.

"Do you have any video games for sale"?

"hahaha. no."

Like I'm some kind of freak for wanting to buy video games. I always feel like it's a condescending laugh too. I'm 14 so it's like they're "oh, silly kids and their video games. I wouldn't waste my time with such childish items".

I just thank them and leave.

Also lines I get often:

"No, they went to my grand kids".
"No, if we did we'd be playing them HAHAHA".
"HAHAHA No, I didn't let my kids play them".
"No, I had a girl HAHAHAHA".

It's so annoying.

Cool man. I don't expect freebies or your cost or anything like that. Do you have a list of stuff you are selling, or is it only via eBay or whatnot? You should put together a tradelist maybe with pricing for this stuff (especially any PS3/Wii/360 games).

I am trying to make money at this too, just to get a little extra money a week since I am in college, but where do you sell your stuff at? I mean, I look on ebay and there are almost thousands of people selling NES's and NES games. It just seems like the ebay market is flooded with video games so how do you actually manage to sell any of it on there (besides really rare stuff)

the thing that ALWAYS happens to me is this:

me "Do you guys have any videogames, older ones like for atari or nintendo"?

yardsale person: "Ooooohhh, yeah.....yeah, yeah, yeah, nintendo games, yeah.................uh, yeah we don't have any of those"

me::bomb:

On a related note, I was going to make a whole different thread about this but WHY do people think that any pre-1997 games are "funny"?? Seriously, EVERY SINGLE TIME I've gone in any store around here that sells older stuff like NES, Atari, Intellivison, Sega, etc.... there is ALWAYS a group of people that come in and go "OMGZ! NES GAMEZ!!111 OMG I LIKE TOTALLY REMEMBER THOSE AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OMGZ ITS SO FUNNY THAT I REMEMBER THOSE !!!111" One time, and Im not even joking, a girl FELL DOWN ON THE FLOOR from laughing so hard because she saw a wall of NES games. Another time this douche baggy guy and his girlfriend came in and he goes "dude, im totally buying one of these stupid nintendo games" he keeps repeating it over and over (laughing more each time he says it) and his gf is going "noo! NOOO! NO WAY! OMG, YOU ARE SO NOT BUYING AN OLD NINTENDO GAME! OMGZ U R SO CRAZY! LOLZ LOLZ!" Another time I was looking thru a box of atari games and a girl just came up to me and flat out laughed right in my face! seriously what is so funny about games that ARENT for PS2/PS3/XBOX/etc??

i get a small laugh or chuckle almost everytime i ask and they don't have them. it's always been out of nervousness or in good nature. i've never found anyone to be laughing in a rude or mocking manner.

Well, as of now almost everything is on ebay with the exception of some of yesterday's stuff. You can feel free to look at my stuff if you'd like:

http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/cmosfm

But if you want something, and I have multiples of it, just PM me and we can talk. I already prices most of it a little lower than the going rate, but if I sell of ebay I won't have to pay fees so I can knock off a little more.

Flooded or not, I make a killing doing this on ebay, and almost always sell everything I list. NES stuff is pretty down as of lately though, but that's one out of a hundred systems I can sell for. Don't just sell NES, that's limiting yourself too much, go for everything.

Other responses I get are
My kids would kill me if I sold them,
or they don't know enough english to know what I'm talking about. Then I ask them in spanish and they say no.

Today I only found one sale with games, I picked up 6 NES games for .50 apiece, a Famicom game with a 72 pin adapter for .50, a copy of FFVII for $4, and a couple SNES games for $1. The Flea-Market lady was out agian, one guy i saw tlod me that she pushed him out of the way and grabbed all the games at one sale. I'm gonna bring up how many people talk about her next time i go to the fleamarket.

Not a big volume day for me today. Much better than yesterday, where I did not find squat.

First find was another one of those where I asked if they had any games because I didn't see any out. Did recognize a Nyko 360 Cooling Fan, so I figured there was at least a chance. Asked the mom and she said no, followed up by asking the teenager there and he said he had Assassin's Creed and went in to get it. He brought it out and I asked how much. He said "$10 or maybe $5". As soon as he said $5 I jumped on that. Disc and case are in perfect shape. Asked for the cooling fan as well for $1 which was accepted.

Assassin's Creed
Nyko 360 Cooler
$6

Picked up a XBox without any accessories and two sports games for $2. Also picked up a Firestorm Cordless drill for $5

XBox (Naked) & 2 Sports Games
$2
Cordless Drill
$5

Went to another sale on my way home and asked for games. The guy said he had some Gamecube games inside. He had some pretty good ones, but as he was going through them he said he liked most of them too much to sell. Did pick Sonic Collection out to sell. Asked $5 and I took it for that. My daughter has been talking about playing Sonic. Now she has a butt load of them to play.

Sonic Collection (Gamecube)
$5

Last pick up was a complete Lost Season 2 box set. Stickered $8, asked $5 and accepted.

Lost Season 2
$5

Crappy day for yard sales.

I got a disc only scratched :360:Crackdown for $2 that works, but whenever I play it the 360 seems louder than normal. Will this fuck it up at all or is it ok, just working harder to read the disc?

Wow.

Let me tell you that we (me and my dad) usually go to garage sales every saturday.

The best game I found in the past was a copy of Kameo for 360 for $2. That all changed today....

and yes... that is a copy of Final Fantasy 7 with a $.75 price tag on it. 75 CENTS!

I thought I almost wet myself when I saw Final Fantasy 7 sitting alongside a few Teletubbies and Sesame Street games.

I didn't get too much today.

$5 Linksys router
$1 Dreamcast controller and vmu

Those two were from the first neighborhood. I only found two house having sales there. I went a ways to this other sale I visited yesterday, but the lady who brings games stuff was sick and not coming. I think the lady is an ebayer and last time she was there whole bunch of accessories. The other people there had some DVDs, but nothing I was interested in. I then went back to a sale I visited yesterday.

$10 box with two colecovision consoles, each with the expansion module, and one atari 2600

I managed to talk them down to $10 from $25. They were pretty dirty. The contacts of one expansion module are looking really corroded. The other expansion module is hooked up, so I hope it is in better shape. I managed to get one of them clean today, but it is going to be an effort to get them all clean and working. I'm hoping both work. I want to sell one and keep the other for myself.

I don't have any pics right now. I'm going to wait till I have cleaned everything up, before I start messing with pictures.

How do you go about asking them? I would ask friends but most of my friends are gamers, and know how much they're worth. I would feel weird just going and asking random people if they want to sell games.

dsc04782ll8.jpg

Sub Terrania: $1

PlayStation SCPH-1001 w/ Hookups, 2 Dual Shocks
Ape Escape
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy VII (Disc 2)
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions
Resident Evil: Director's Cut
Total: $10

Not many finds today, grabbed the Genesis game from a small batch of games from someone's grandson, and the PlayStation and games from asking at a sale. The discs are all a little scratched and dirty, but some plastic polish should take care of them no problem. Cherry picked them from a stack of disc-only games, which also included random discs of FFVIII, but neither FF was complete. Wasn't going to take the PS1 at first, but it's a pretty easy flip since it's an "audiophile" one.

This weekend was pretty terrible. There was already a lack of sales but then the rain kicked in and cut my potential sales in half. Today I went to a sale and asked about videogames and before I could finish my question the lady responded "no". I could tell that she feared videogames and always watched news stories on TV how videogames are bad. She gave a pleasent smile but she totally looked at me a different way. Also they were trying to make a profit off selling Dunkin Dounuts so that could have been part of it

Guitar Hero II & Wired Guitar (PS2) (game complete, guitar no box) - $8

Got to this sale just as it started, advertised PS2 games. IAP was $10 got some other stuff bringing the price down to $8

Pretty decent haul of PSX stuff for me today, Legend of Legaia and twisted metal for 3$ total then at another house I got Colin McRae Rally, need for speed high stakes and south park for 2$. I also got a n64 console for 1$ with an expansion pack but no controllers, it has all the hookups too.

Ok on the legend of legaia case there are 2 discs but the case only says the game is one disk, whats on the other disk and where is the proper place to put it in the case, its one of those playstation jewel cases that looks like its meant to hold 2 games. Oh and its black label too.

I also saw a dreamcast for 10$ in the box but I didn't get it and get this a Commodore VIC-20 computer in the box but it was 10$ so I didn't get it also I have no idea what I would do with it. But that is the first time Ive ever seen a Commodore computer in my life.

I kept asking for video games at the sales that didn't have them but none were brought out.

My copy of Legend Of Legaia only has 1 disk so you somehow got something else thrown into your deal.

Hmm, they are both labeled Legend of Legaia, one is blue and the other is yellow. Perhaps I got 2 games, one greatest hits and one not?? Time to throw them into the Playstation to see what they are!

Not many sales today but happy...

PS1 mint/complete Parasite Eve $5 (gentleman was selling boxed Playstation with 5 games for $40...$5 was the best I could haggle....)

Mint/complete wii RE and RE UC for $15 ($10 each, accepted $15 for both)

Bunch of DVDs (20?) including 4 Disneys for $10 oh and and a neat light thrown in...

Do you guys think its worth going out on Monday for sales?
I don't know to expect if there are any and if there aren't don't want to trouble someone into giving me a ride.

I wouldn't bother Monday sales aren't that common and Monday is a holiday this weekend. Most people don't have yard sales on holidays.

I've seen a couple signs for a Labor Day only sale. The only problem is that there are so few that competition will be pretty stiff. May be worth a lap of your usual course.

Saturday is the big day for sales here, not many people have them on sunday and most are already packed up when you drive by them. Sunday's are also really slow for business. Tomorrow I would guess would be the same. This is for my area and yours might differ.

I did pick up a load of game/pc guides today for 25 cents each.

Pretty good day at the swap meet. Only dc and ps1 stuff was reasonably priced at every stand, which is kind of weird.

(PS1)Mega Man 8 (No manual GH) - $1

IAP was $2. CIF'd 1 and the guy took it hesitantly. This is the second time I've gotten a cheap GH MM8 with art but no manual. WTF!

2 Dreamcast controllers - $1 each

IAP was $2 each. CIF'd 2 for both.

black Sega Sports Dreamcast + black controller + power cable - $5
IAP $10. CIF'd 5 and he took it. I'm probably gonna use it for burned games so the laser on my other one doesn't die fast.

(PS1)Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection 1 - 50 cents
Stacked with a bunch of old computer games marked 50 cents each.

I picked up Gyromite for the NES MINT in box. Seriously looks like the attatchments for ROB have never been used and the game and book are still in the plastic. I plan to sell this for a pretty penny. Oh forgot to say I got it for $3.

Yeah it was actually the second time I went back to that yard sale that day, the lady remembered me and said she found some stuff for me and brings out the N64 stuff. I saw one gen cart in there and said that she must have a genesis around somewhere. So she says oh yeah I do and brings out in that red cooler in the back of the picture which she threw in as well.
