Official 2009 Yard Sale Thread

OK guys, I'm back with pics. Sizable post coming up. Went back to the flea market today (but I'll post it here cause it's basically a consolidated yard sale) and made my decent finds into kickass finds.

We'll start with this:

dscf1043.jpg

^Really the only craptastic find of the day. The first Pokemon movie on VHS (my wife has fond memories) and the first Sims complete with manual(PC) (the only Sims game and/or add-on my wife didn't already own, so why not? Asking $2 each.

Total cost: $3

Now, on to the good stuff.

dscf1045.jpg
dscf1047.jpg

^That's right, it came with a complimentary Nike box for me to dispose of at my very own convenience. The scotch tape says: "Game Boy System $10 (Batteries Not Included)". I took the box to the old guy I assumed to be the seller and held it up without saying a word. Hell, he knew what I meant. He said "What is it?", his son said "What's it say on the box?", I said "$10, but..." and he cut me off and said "$8?".

Came with a filthy (toothbrush and Windex, here I come) original Game Boy, a magnifier screen with a light and speakers, some bizarre joystick accessory, a carry-all case, a Light Boy, and half of an AC adapter. The prong-looking thing sucks juice off the batteries to power up the lights and speakers.

dscf1048.jpg

^I've never seen so many accessories. They actually made the original Game Boy bigger.

dscf1051.jpg

^More proof of the massiveness.

dscf1053.jpg

^This thing uses nearly every outlet on the Game Boy! So many wires!

dscf1055.jpg

^The carry-all carries the Game Boy itself (which locks in) and around 6 games (which don't). It even has a goofy carrying strap. Man, I'm gonna be cool at school. The games were already mine, unfortunately.

Oh, and batteries totally were included.

Total cost: $8

Next!

dscf1057.jpg

^Never seen this anywhere in my life. There was a Pac-Man board game? Anyway, guy said it's never been used and asked $8 for it. I didn't even try to talk him down.

dscf1059.jpg

^Yeah, he lied, it's been used. Everything's assembled. So what? Everything's there (the instructions say what should be there), and I own a freakin' Pac-Man board game. Does it get much cooler?

Answer: Yes. Next!

Total cost: $8

044.jpg

^Two Mario Kart 64 figures sealed in the box. Hard to find online. Barely found any. Yes that's an RE 5 CE strat guide holding them down... the top half of each box has a wicked curl. I'm gonna try to leave them like that about a week and see if they straighten. Asking $5 each. Bundled with next pic.

Next!

045.jpg

^Holy fuck. This is also hard as hell to come by online. The plastic is mint(dirty, but that's no biggie) except for a tear in the bottom(no more room for pics). I bought this solely to flip. The guy was asking $7 for this and $5 each for the MK64 figures and I went back when he was gone and they were loading up for the day. I asked his wife $15 for all three, she counter-offered $14. Um... ok!

Total cost: $14

Total today: $33

I've got 14 garage sales lined up for tomorrow, but for today, what do you guys think?

Pretty crappy today . . . yesterday I hit 3 sales but found Gears of War (which I actually played today!) and KOTR (which I already sold for $20).

Today I hit about 40 sales and found very little in terms of games. I did see an N64 sys with a few crappy sports games . . . offered $5 but they held at $15. I may have done it but it didn't have the TV hookup with the RCA plugs or the memory expansion pack. Same sale also had GH Aerosmith for 360 which I'd pick up for $5 but they wanted $25 (with a wired guitar).

Elsewhere I saw a crappy game here or there . . . how about Spice Girls for PS1!

Finally as I was heading home (had enough at noon--4hrs is my usual limit) I tried to hit a few extra sales in hopes of some redemption. I found some decent PS2 games (marked $5 each) and talked her into these for $10.

080709PS2games.jpg

I got GOW2 last year on Black Friday but its sealed (and GH packaging) . . . so I'll sell it off and play this one (if I ever have time). The GH 80s game is supposed to be bad . . . but my kids love "I Wanna Rock" which is played at the end of the Spongebob movie.

Other than gaming, I had an acceptable outing picking up some books for resale.

Guitar Hero 80s is pretty bad in terms of gameplay compared to GHWT, but I loved it. If you're any good at GH, try Play With Me on Expert.

Two Mario Kart 64 figures sealed in the box.
Funny, I had a few of the Mario Kart toys for my kids (can't remember where I got them or how much I paid) but they are long gone. I think I had DK and Wario as well as Mario . . . and maybe Yoshi.

I've seen the Pac Man game but never in such good condition.

Super Mario Sunshine (No Instruction Manual, PC)
Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (Complete)
2 Different Pac-Man Glasses

$7

Got to this sale right at 8 as it's the same place that I got some Playstation, Saturn & PS2 games at over the last few years, they had GameCube games as part of the advertisement which was new this year. They still had a ton of said games left over from previous years as I expected. Glasses were .50 each and I offered $6 for 2 games (they were asking $5 each).

2x NESes & 2x 2600 controllers - $2

2nd sale today saw this marked for $2. This sale was also running on Thursday so I was surprised these lasted, maybe they just got put out on Friday or nobody was interested without any wires on Thursday even if they were dirt cheap.

x2 NES Controllers
Super Mario Bros 3
Tetris (Tengen Version)
Legend of Zelda, The (Gold In Plastic Case With Manual & Map)

$7

Asked about games at this sale, girl mentioned a brother who didn't live here but just happened to pop out the door as he just stopped by (he lived just down the street). He mentioned having some "doubles" and I came back about 20 minutes later. When I got back the brother was gone and I was told he was asking $40 if I was interested in all of them. It was just over 20 games & 6 controllers. I picked out what I got and offered $5, after a little back and forth ended up at $7.

Only went out for about an hour and a half today and about 10-15 sales since no area near me really had more then a few sales for Friday.

The first house I saw the guy that runs a newer shop downtown that sells all sorts of stuff sort of like a pawn/thrift type store, I was thinking he might have showed up for the video games and the GameCube games looked like they had a gap of about 5 games which might have been the cream of the crop but if this was the case it probably wasen't this guy as he didn't have anything in hand.

Second sale today was kind of funny as the guy running it runs a store here in town that has some collectible stuff so I would have figured that the Nintendo systems wouldn't be so cheap, he did have a Super Pong stand alone that I didn't even want to make an offer on from the $10 asking price.

Passed on 4 common 2600 games that I already have at one house at .75 a pop but they mentioned a box of games they sold which might have been more 2600 games or I'd guess some other old games.

I wasen't gone long from the sale I got Tetris at (I'd guess 20 minutes) but they had the stuff out instead of off to the side and mentioned that somebody was interested in all of them before I got back who I guess they turned down or told after me if he came back, although said person probably would have lost interest at $40 for the lot. This situation killed my first plan of offering $5 for all and the brother being gone in this case (at least for me) makes it tougher to really haggle much if at all. They actually had 4 copies of Zelda altogether, 2 more gold & 1 gray.

Oh it works well, the only other tip I have, even if they don't advertise or have video games out. Ask about them anyways...

Sometimes I forget too and I've missed a few things like a sweet Mac G3 for $5...

Might go out tomorrow, maybe

Wow! I listed all the figures today on CL for way more than I thought they were worth and already got 3 emails offering to buy at asking price! (MGS - $110, Mario - $65, Yoshi - $55)

Wow. Like hotcakes.

fuck, that's a great flip. I never had any idea Mario Kart figures were that collectable. Even if I saw the MGS set in the wild I would exprect though; the series has some rabid fans.

Just got back. I headed out to one advertised yard sale that had some reasonable prices on furniture, but nothing I was interested in.

I ended up cutting down side strets on the way home and stumbled upon two unadvertised yardsales where I snagged a 27" Sony TV for $15.

What a nosedive. I was barely able to find 10 sales today.

Tomba 2 (PS1; case but no manual) & Donkey Kong Country (GBA) - $2.50
PS2: Pinball Hall of Fame, Tetris Worlds, Castlevania Lament of Innocence, Singstar Pop w/ 2 mics - $10

I passed two addresses that mentioned video games on craigslist, and guess what, there was nothing there--no sale at all. It really is crazy that someone called/emailed these people and bought them out. Sounds ridiculous but I don't know how else to explain it.

fuck I'm pretty sure I got the MK figures at TRU on clearance . . . I hung onto them sealed for awhile but then gave them to my son . . . I must've bought them about 7 years ago.

Pretty heavy rains today . . . I found some sales (about 15) but no gaming deals :whistle2:(

I did see a small pile of PS1 games . . . all sports titles.

And a spotted a few games including Godfather for the Wii but they were marked "Gamestop's price $30 . . . my price $25" so I moved on.

I did get a few books and CDs that made the trip worthwhile.

Holy fuck. Bally Astrocades are rare as hell. The box is beat up, but at least it's there. And is Red Baron sealed? eBay has run out of these lately, but last I saw people were getting $200-250 out of them sans games. But I'd say around $200-220 with the condition(which is excellent outside of the main box).

Really. That crazy. It was at some garage sale where a guy had a s--t ton of action figures. I didn't even realize the games were there. They were stuck in with the system. The system has a slot for game storage and they were all in it.

None of the games are sealed. It is Red Baron/Panzer Attack 2003. It isn't sealed but it is complete.

Incredible Wizard 2017 is complete.
Grand Prix/ Demolition Derby 2013 is complete
Artillery Duel 5005 is complete
Space Fortress 2012 is cart and a box
Then there is something called BASIC Computer Programming Cart

Small but decent haul today, at least the rain held off so I could hit the sales

Saturn Tomb Raider - 50 cents, cracked case

N64 games all 1$ each

F-zero x
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time
Monster Truck Madness 64
Mission Impossible
Wave Race 64
Bomberman 64

They had other games and a system, but most were sports games so I cherry picked the lot and bought them for 1$ each. System was $20, did not buy.

Best find of the day:

Mario Party DS - 5$ complete and with unused club Nintendo code which was promptly used by me
Petz Garden Jardin DS - 5$
i just checked completed auctions: one sold with 15 games (some boxed) for $115 shipped. another sold system only (but boxed) for $76.02 shipped.
Interesting. It's strange to watch how much prices("values") fluctuate from week to week. I was actually craving an Astrocade about a month ago and couldn't find one for less than $175. I guess patience just pays off.
Any info on value? It is Astrocade The Professional Expandable Computer System w/ some games.
It would probably hit at least 200 nearer to Xmas.

Damn, I'm envious. I used to play this system at stores as a kid (probably JCPenny). You've got a piece of history.

I meant to post today's finds much earlier, but I needed a very long swimming session after being in such insane heat all day. fuck the flea market...

Well, I hit 22 garage sales today, and only managed to spend $54, most of it on my wife and the end-of-the-day super-find (not that super, don't get excited), but here goes:

When I left this morning, I told my wife I'd find us something to set our printer on since it's been on the floor for a month. The very first sale I found a nice low end table with a drawer (for paper) and an open storage space (for CD-R's, PC games, etc.) listed for $5. It stayed in my hatchback all morning.

Total Cost - $5

mayvxh.jpg

Almost all of that was for the wife. She's been getting a bit upset at my game buying addiction as of late (I've probably spent $5-600 this month.) so I spoiled her (to lessen the impact of the other two finds of the day).

I got the Scooby pillow and Sully plush for $.50 together, the Buzz for $1, the Disney Scene It! (missing Donald Duck playing piece, otherwise complete) for $3, the Pictionary(with second edition add-on pack) and Dictionary Dabble(I thought it said Pictionary when I bought it) for $1 together, Hellboy for $1, and the Pokemon Game Boy pouch with the Pikachu keychain for $.75. The books are Book 2, 4, and 6 from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. $.50 each.

Total Cost - $13.75

These two kids were running a lemonade stand out in the boiling heat in front of their parents' estate sale. They charged me a quarter for a huge cup and I donated another.

Total Cost - $12.75

Next!

2qdxycy.jpg

I'm actually not nearly as excited about this as I should be, since I already have a SNES Mini, but it caught me eye in a huge community sale, I walked over to it, and it had that green $1 dot on it. I pointed directly at the sticker, and almost whispered "How much for this?". They got up and looked and said "a dollar" like I was stupid. I pulled a dollar out of my pocket, handed it over, said thank you, picked up the SNES, and nearly ran for the door. I didn't notice Lion King or the broken controller til I got home.

Total Cost - $13.75

I almost got home with all this crap when I remembered that the guy yesterday at the flea market who sold me the action figures mentioned an Atari 2600. I decided to go check and see if he decided to bring it today, and in fact, he did.

qzj346.jpg

He was asking $40 with all the games and I wanted to talk him down, but I asked if he had the box(he said yesterday that he did). He said "Yeah, but I didn't bring it." I asked him if he would go get it, and he actually went all the way to his house to get just the box. I had to wait for him for half an hour, which cost me another $.50 in beverages, but he showed back up.

2v3ljld.jpg

I couldn't talk him down after he drove across town for me, but hey, I've been wanting a 2600, even if the box is all beat to hell.

Oh, and the games are:

Pac-Man
Pole Position
Defender
Star Raiders
Slot Racers
Air Sea Battle
Space War
Video Chess
Missile Command
Combat
Berzerk
Night Driver
A manual for Video Pinball

It came with two paddles, two joysticks, and two controllers I've never seen (Texas Instruments), and an AC adapter. It also came with a coax extension from RadioShack, which is nice.

Total Cost - $40.50

I'm not bothering with non find BS today cause I'm tired, so maybe next week.

End-of-Day - $54.25

Edit: The pictures were all sorts of fucked up. Still way too big, oh well.

Boxed NES Action Set With 3x 1st Party Controllers, 1x 3rd Party Controller, A/V Cables, 1st Party System Cleaning Cart & N64 Superpad.

Games

Contra
Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off-Road *
Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt *
Wheel of Fortune *

$18

Got out late (10ish) and found this at the first sale I stopped at that wasen't on my list of sales. Asked about games and this and a boxed Genesis that was only the Genesis 2 & AC Adaptor were brought out. I looked it over offering $5 but that wasen't gonna happened as the guy said he was thinking $25 and gently mentioned something about how he was thinking about keeping it for his kid(s). I offered $15 from $20 and offered to meet him in the middle which he agreed on so I just went ahead and rounded up and gave him $18. Games with a * came with a slip cover.

The guy told me I could get a replacement AC Adaptor at GameStop, I've gotten this a few times at yardsales and everytime I have to politely explain that they haven't carried older stuff like this in ages lol.

Q*Bert (PSX, No Manual), 2 different Playstation Code Books - .75
Bo Jackson: Two Games In One (GB) - .25

2 different sales, they actually lowered the price for me on Q*Bert from a buck to .50 and the books were .10 each but I thanked them and said I didn't need the change.

For Bo Jackson, asked about games lady said she had some but after 5+ minutes came out with a brick gameboy and this in it saying that she couldn't find the rest. I wasen't interested really but she asked me if I wanted the game at least and I offered .25. She was kind of surprised that I wasen't really willing to offer a buck at least but I kindly explained that I would probably never play it as it's a sports game and she ended up just saying I could have it for .25.

Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko
Robotron X
Roll Away

$1.50

IAP was A Buck each took $1.50 for all three, all complete.

Sonic The Hedgehog Book - .05

Asking .25 but easily took the last of my silver change in a nickel :D

Dragon Warrior III (GBC) - $1-2

I got this with a Beyond The Far Side book for $2 total so I figured about a buck and change of that was for the game. Offered a buck for both (from $3 & .75) and countered with $2. This was pretty late also, probably about 1:30ish.

Sega Saturn (Model 1) With original 1st Party Controller, 3rd Party Controller, Iron Storm In The System! & 1st Party PS2 Controller

$3

It was really late in the day when I found this stuff (probably about 2) at an unadvertised sale on one of the main streets downtown. Younger girl running the sale asked $2 for the system & I offered $3 with the PS2 controller added in.

No Saturn games in sight just some PS1 games at this sale but I was happy with what was inside as I don't have Iron Storm but do have a manual I got free at a yardsale about 4 years ago. I hope the system works especially being a Model 1 (my Model 1 I got new when the Saturn first came out acts up) but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't as it is rather dirty.

Non Find BS

Got up late today and didn't get out till shortly before 10, but I ended up being out for just over four hours and only missed the last 2 sales that weren't open late in the day and got to about 35 sales total. One of the first sales I went to mentioned that somebody else asked about video games already. I sometimes think that when people kind of laugh when I ask about older games that maybe it's because they've had a few people already ask them about "video games".

Probably didn't miss too much even with getting out so late, 1-3 sales that were wiped out of most of their PS1 or PS2 games, one house mentioned an N64 that I missed and another house said they had an NES with games that they sold for $50 on Friday so while that (in a sense) was the most promising thing I missed out on looking for old games it really isn't that big of a deal since it's hard to imagine that it came with enough games (or game(s) rare enough) to be a super yardsale price at $50

One house I went to on Friday mentioned having some games possibly so I stopped by late Saturday morning figuring they would most likely forget or the kids wouldn't be interested in selling them but they did have some Genesis & PS1 games and told me that most of them just sold over the last 15 minutes. Probably didn't miss anything good like Splatterhouse 3 complete as they had 3 Genesis games left at $2 being fairly common (Sonic 3, Beavis & Butthead & Basketball).

One house had a "Sega" that they didn't want to sell as they dug it out while cleaning out the attic and the 3 year old liked it but they then asked if I would be interested in an Atari. It ended up being an Odyssey2 in the box that they couldn't even find the games for and took my number. First time seeing one of these at a yardsale but the one lady asked me if $25 was alright before they even brought it out so I don't think it's going to be cheap enough for me as an extra, I actually got one boxed at the Salvation Army a few years ago for $5 and it had about 15-20 cart only games in the box.

Been reading this thread for a long time and today decided to go to some garage sales today. I've been looking for a saturn at a decent price forever and just cannot find one. Today didn't help. All I came across was a 20 dollar dreamcast with no cords which I passed on and a copy of metal gear vr missions for the ps1 that I got for 2 dollars.

I can't believe some of the finds I've seen in this thread. They're unbelieveable. If anyone ever comes across a cheap Saturn PM me and I'd be glad to pay shipping and some extra for your trouble. I've been to garage sales in 4 states and have never seen anything like the finds in this thread.

If you just keep hammering away at sales, you're likely to make some finds.

I'm feeling left out this weekend, so I've dug up two items that I bought (separately) earlier this summer.

0709GandW.jpg

Fire was in June . . . paid 50 cents. Both had no batteries in them and no corosion.

The DK 3 is very odd (paid 50 cents as well). the controllers separate with the cords retracting within. DK3 has batteries and both test OK.

I'll probably put them on fleabay nearer the holidays.

another disappointing weekend with yard sales.

I did pick up:
PSX console with controller
Crash Bandicoot 2
Gex 3
Total: $2

Naruto Comic Book: $0.25

not the best deals.. but not too bad either

This was the first time all year i went to a bunch of yard sales but i would up with a pretty good deal

Model 1 Sega Genesis With The Box W/ 1 controller / cords
Phantasy Star 2 complete with box and manual
Genesis Memery Card Plus Cartridge
PS1 Turbo Controller

Cost = $3.00

Also

Shanghai - Sega Master System Game for a quarter

Those ones with the attached controllers are the Nintendo VS systems (I think that is what they are called), I got a blue one a couple years back for 25 cents. They are pretty cool items to have.

Had a pretty mild Saturday. My wife was a real trooper, she had two wisdom teeth out Friday.

Only got a DS Phat and 10 games for $10 -- Super Mario is the only notable

Also got a complete Time Crisis 4 with the Guncon for $7

finds080909.jpg

Sqoon and Run Saber - $5
Quake 3 Revolution, Silent Hill 2, XFire annd Hart's War - $10
UHF - $2
FF7 - $10
HDMI Cable and official Gamecube Component cable - $2

Not a yardsale find (Craigslist) but i found an N64 with 18 games in reasonable condition and with 2 memory cards (one is "memory plus"), 2 controllers (1 grey and 1 clear purple) for $25. From the same guy I bought a Game boy color also in reasonable condition with 13 games for another $25. could have haggled, but he was far from me and would need to ship and i knew shipping would be expensive (it was $40 total before i told him i needed him to ship). gave a case too for the gbc! and i found some game manuals in the back pocket. i would say this is a pretty good find. no pics yet, but here is a list of games -
N64:
Perfect Dark
NFL Blitz
Extreme G
Nascar
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
Mission Impossible
Golden Eye 007
Starfox 64
WCW Nitro
Mayhem
WCW vs Nitro World Tour
Cruisin USA
Wave Race
Monster Truck Madness 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Super Mario 64
Zelda
Mario Kart 64

some of these are worth easily $15, others are worth $10, and the rest are worth less than $5, but i think i'll still make some money off it. the controllers sell for $10 to $16.00 alone on ebay (especially the clear purple one), and the system i'll probably get another $15 for.

GB/GBC:
Pokemon Gold
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
Super Mario Land
Frogger
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Bo Jackson Baseball/Football
Jeff Gordan Racing
Pokemon Trading Card Game
Mario Tennis, Tetris
Road Rash
Rampage
Tony Hawks Pro Skater

except for maybe pokemon gold, these games aren't worth much. still, good find i think :)
PS has any1 else ever had a small obsession with the game mario tennis for gameboy color?! i dont know why it doesnt sell for more... i used to have it on my first gameboy, now i happened to come across one again.

I post Craigslist finds in here. Really, I think the fact that we have a finds thread for YS/CL/Pawn Shop/Goodwill/etc is a bit redundant.

It cuts down on clutter. I'd rather read five threads than one cluttered mega thread.

anyway what do you guys think of my deal? i am just a beginner to all this, really started getting into it at the beg. of the summer.. PS i would also rather have 1 big thread.

im reading over the thread which is why this is so late, but i got the same thing except its gba SP and i know mines worth about 110 or so but i think yours is more rare... maybe 150 even.

i know this isnt a video game find, but i just scored a Ti-83 (texas instruments) graphing calculator for 3 bucks at a yard sale!!! its used but great condition.. they go on ebay for about $55... cha ching. haggled it down from 5.
also bought a ps2 fat for 15 bucks.. came with 2 controllers/hookups. not that great of a deal, but it was the only video gaming thing at the sale. haggled it down from 20.
i regret not just saying ill take both items for 15.. oh well.

Yeah I'd rather just have one big thread too. I don't see the point in having a thread for each of craiglist, pawn, thrift and yard sale, heck we even have two pawn threads going right now. Just make one big thread and have people state within their posts how and where they got their finds.
Merge em up?
No. It would be over 10000 posts.

Just wait until next year and have an encompassing topic that's stickied.
