I think the biggest reason he didn't choose the 49ers is because it a NFC team and he would be competing with Eli.
Which is so stupid. What happens if he has to face Eli in a Super Bowl? "Sorry guys. I gotta sit this one out"
I bet Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas are extremely happy this morning.
Already heard Willis Magahee on the radio. "Music to my ears baby, music to my ears."

Then its fine. They just want an all manning Superbowl. That said, I don't see him successfully reaching the Superbowl with Denver. I figured he would've valued winning now more than an all Manning SB and went with SF.

I could not agree more

Manning just used the Niners. He is the one that wanted to talk to Niners and someone in his camp was the one to leak out the info of the secret workout with the Niners I guess to put pressure on Tennessee and Denver. I don't think he went to Denver for the money but because he gets the keys to the franchise. He will basically be the OC and in SF there was no chance of that.

So next up, will Alex Smith drag his resigning out or will he hurry up and sign on the dotted line already.
Niners was Mannings best shot for a SB.
Indeed. Or SBs. Broncos may well win the AFC West again next year as the Chargers get worse and worse or they can sneak into the playoffs via a wildcard but I can't see them going all the way. The delicious ironing will be if they fail to win any playoff games anytime in the next couple years.
this and Elway.

if people don't think Bowlen is going to go all in and get the pieces Manning needs for a Super Bowl, people are just pissed Manning didn't pick their team. Plus, the AFC is more wide open than the NFC currently.
Before the thread turns into Manning Mania, what does everyone think about Mike Tolbert to the Panthers? Now they have 3 starting RBs and a QB who scores TDs like one.
LOL at the Panthers with all those RBs in a passing league. I don't understand this move but I guess you can never have too much skill at the skill positions. The Giants just keep stocking up on defensive linemen and I'm just numb to it now but it is nice to rarely ever have to worry about that part of your team.
I think the biggest reason he didn't choose the 49ers is because it a NFC team and he would be competing with Eli.
This can't be the reason, can it? It is so remote that these 2 teams will play again in the playoffs and even if they do who cares? It is a TEAM game. How many times has Venus played Serena in a grand slam final? That is WAY worse than just being on the other team as your brother in the NFL, even if you are both QBs.

So, here are some tweets from "Broncos fans" regarding the Manning signing.

@BrittAndBobby: fuck u elway fuck you elway fuck you elway tebow never gets a fucking chance u devil I hope u die

My wife just called me in tears. TEARS! - Over the prospect of @TimTebow being traded. @johnelway , sir you have a PR nightmare brewing.

I have placed my curse on John Elway and the Broncos organization for throwing Tebow under the bus... Stupid move @Johnelway #Broncos

Are Broncos fans really this dumb/delusional? You're replacing a shitty QB with a HOF'er and someone who is still one of the best in the league. Why are you complaining?

Those are not Broncos fans those are tebowmanics.

Well, 3 of them are anyway. And I'd certainly question whether those are really Broncos fans, or just Tebow fans.

I'd bet that the vast majority of Broncos fans are over the moon about this.

Yep. That's the reaction of every Broncos fan, not just the dumb ones that every team has.

Why can't it be a factor for him? He had the freedom to choose to go wherever he wants for any reasons that matter to him, so who cares?

I guess he has his reasons and I honestly don't care but it seems to me that if this is true it would actually explain a lot about why he's only won 1 title in his career. A true competitor wants to kill everyone in his path no matter the opponent, IMO. I'm not disputing Manning's greatness but if there was a Hall of Fame pyramid this is the exact reason I'd have him in the second tier dispite his 4 MVPs and all the other records.
The delicious ironing will be if they fail to win any playoff games anytime in the next couple years.
Well, at least their uniforms won't be wrinkled.

Coming back from neck surgeries is hella manly. Being afraid of Eli and the NFC is the opposite of manly. Which is why I don't think it was legit reporting or speculating that he didn't choose the Niners to duck Eli and the NFC.

The real IRONY is seeing them condemn a former QB and legend, who brought them championships, for punching the bus ticket of a QB who brought them...a pose. I'll never understand why the people who understand sports the least are always the ones who talk about them the most. What kind of sick joke is that? lol

Yeah, I think having greater control of the offense makes more sense (and is completely reasonable). As others have said, at his age, the last thing he wants to do is butt heads with Harbaugh.

Who said he was afraid of Eli besides you? He just doesn't seem like he wants to directly compete against him and take the spotlight away from him, which is why the New York Jets, Washington, and any other NFC team had a disadvantage to any AFC teams that he was interested in. I haven't read any rumors about it either.
Yep. That's the reaction of every Broncos fan, not just the dumb ones that every team has.
Hence why I put Broncos fans in quotes.

Well now he doesn't have to worry at all about taking the spotlight away from Eli, especially the spotlight that comes with a championship.
Well, at least their uniforms won't be wrinkled.
Aw c'mon, you haven't heard that meme before? I don't remember where I first saw it but I thought it was funny.

I'm pretty apathetic to the whole thing. I mean, if the Chargers were still sniffing around the SB discussion, I'd be upset about the Broncos getting better, but those days are likely over until Norv Turner leaves town so as it stands, Peyton can go wherever.

How does paying attention to the schedule/conference mean that he doesn't want to kill his opponents? Anyway, I don't think that was even close to a major factor in his decision. He didn't come down to SF and Denver and pick Denver because it's not in the NFC. He knows that they've got a coach that can be much more flexible about the type of offense that they'll run to suit Peyton's skills so he doesn't have to fit into somebody else's scheme.

Coming back from serious neck surgery to play in Denver where it gets ridiculously cold late in the year might be rough - sore and stiff joints aren't going to be fun.

I'm pretty sure it was a matter of which team would hand the keys to the car to Peyton and let him soup it up as he damn well pleased.

I agree his best chance was the Niners (a Peyton-run offense w/ the Niners defense could have been amazing) but Peyton would have had a hell of a time convincing Harbaugh to step aside and let him run the offense.

LOL at people being mad at Tebow's wings getting cut. He's the Alex Smith of the AFC. Guy does marginally well but not impressive when you consider the rest of the team has to bail him out until he can have his moments.
Garrard to Miami...FML.

I guess it's better than trading for Tebow, but it still blows.
Full rebuilding mode now. 8 wins over the next two years in my best guess. It's going to be rough.

He will not win another Super Bowl with Denver. There's no way. No QB has ever switched teams after age 35 and won a title. Never mind one coming off of a severe neck injury that made him miss an entire season. He might have some success (and he probably will if he is healthy) but no way he wins it all. Favre got to a title game, Warner got to the Super Bowl, Montana got to a title game... anyone else?... Winning a Super Bowl is as much about talent as it is about getting the right breaks at the right time. I just think the chances of it happening are so remote.
Nice. Now I just need Alex Smith to sign that 3 year deal with the 49ers.
I think Alex has a slight leverage advantage now that the FA QB market has been emptied. Kind of the opposite of last offseason, where Smith stayed in SF because he wouldn't start anywhere else. Now SF has to retain Smith because there really isn't much they can do otherwise.

Short-term, it would be in Smith's best interest to remain a Niner even if the money isn't what Miami throws at him. However, given the Niners made it clear they really want a more commanding QB behind center, I can see why he'd bolt if the writing's on the wall. Even if it's to a rebuilding Dolphins team. Either way, his viability as a starting NFL QB will all depend on next season.

I don't know man, does he have any more leverage than before the Manning signing? Niners had an offer on the table for Alex Smith before free agency even started. 3 year $24 mil. But Smith wants a more favorable contract. And it's not like they showed interest in Flynn or Orton or whoever would have been a more realistic QB free agent then to put all of their eggs in the Manning basket. So I think they're back to where they both started. Niners want Smith back but with a contract that leaves the door open for Keapernick and Smith wants a more secure deal. So one side has to give in and if the Niners do sweeten the deal a bit it won't be a ridiculous amount like the Jets "we're sorry for talking about Manning" money they gave Sanchez.

edit: Their haven't been any reports of the Niners talking to other QBs. So either they are confident a deal with get done with Smith or if not they are going to go with Keapernick. Also Vince Young expressed interest in a tweet for the Niners. Thanks but no thanks Vince.

Hines Ward officially retires a Steeler. Probably would be a little more feelgood if they hadn't announced they cut him about a month ago.

Alex Smith has no leverage. It's either go back and start for the 49ers for 24 million, or backup somewhere for less.

I'm actually pretty appalled by his stance in this whole thing. The guy SUCKED for how many years making multi-millions of dollars. He then plays pretty well, but not at a level that involves him receiving a big contract. He missed throws most QBs make last year.

Now he has some success and wants to put the 49ers over a barrel? And then act butthurt cause the 49ers inquired about a HALL OF FAMER!? Not Vince Young, not David Gerrard...Peyton Manning!!

Use your head Alex. Jesus.

FYI: that Sanchez extension only added $2 million guarenteed to his contract at the time. That stuff is window dressing.
Hines Ward: Hall of Famer?
Yes, I don't think he'll have any trouble getting in. Top 20 all time in receiving yards, played for one team his entire career, widely regarded as one of the best blocking receivers of all time. Even if he doesn't get in on the first ballot, he's a shoe-in eventually.
Does Alex Smith really want to change offensive coordinator again?
I was thinking the same thing. If the reason for his struggles was really all the different systems he's had to play under (although I think that factor is overstated), I don't see why he'd even be strongly considering leaving the first system under which he's found a modicum of success.

Seems like a no-brainer for him to stay there, I really have no idea what he's waiting for.

Reviewing what's going on, I have to agree it's a better contract. I agree with DestroVega though;he should be thankful that he got really good money during the years he sucked and take a reasonable deal without expecting much more. Outside of last season, he was a step away from enjoying purple drank with JaMarcus Russell, reminiscing about how much money they made being bad QBs on sub-par Bay Area teams.
Please, oh please, don't let Cleveland land Tebow.
Very unlikely. Best case scenario he ends up in Jacksonville as a starter which is pretty ambigious. I say he'll become a backup at a place with a strong, well established quarterback.
