Official 2011-2012 NBA Season thread

Man, Dwight has been funner to watch than the stuff leading up to and after the Decision! /snore
Knicks make the playoffs oh well, wouldn't have mind if the bucks making it in.

Also who gives a flying fuck what someone has in their house good grief. That in no way shape or form needed an article about it holy shit people are stupid
While I don't give a flying fuck, it does show how full of a person is when they have an "abstract" piece of art that only features one member of the family above the fire place. Dude does have a wife (and I think a kid?) after all.

You're right though, the article had no real point and is stupid.
Living in Sacramento, this is causing absolute heartbreak. The Maloofs are the worst kind of owner.
Yeah there really isn't any kind of professional sports around Sac other than the Kings. If they leave all we'll have left for sports around here will be the Rivercats.

It's disappointing that it went down like this, especially when most of the fans around here let out a huge sigh of relief just a few months ago.

I can truly see them bailing for Southern California since they have lost most of their casino money and will use the Kings and a LA TV deal to generate revenue.

It's always nice to see the Cavs play the Knicks. If they keep the lead, this will be their tenth straight win over the Knicks at home.

That three by Manny Harris to beat the 24 second clock was amazing.
dumb cavs, why are you winning? we have to tank to get a better pick!
There's no reason for them to tank and I don't know why a fan would want them to do it.

So they can get a few more ping-pong balls in the lottery. I get it, but I don't condone it.

Although I'm kind of positive it's improbable, Irving and Davis would make a good tandem for the Cavs to build around.

It's a random thing, so more doesn't guarantee anything. The pick that Cavs got the #1 with had a ~1% chance of being the #1. They really need to get a good shooting guard or small forward at whatever spot they get.
That makes no sense. Terrible basketball team does not equal terrible businessman. The Maloofs still owe Sacramento 75 million from when they bought the team and people continue to lend them money to fund their basketball operation, none of which they will ever get back. Jordan by comparison is fucking Jordan, a global brand and icon. That Nike money ain't going to stop flowing in by the truckloads anytime soon.

3 OT's for Dallas/Utah. Really surprised this game has gone as long as it did, since it looked like Utah had it sewn up on several occasions.
And yet the Bobcats are terrible. Why? Because he doesn't want to spend money on players to help make the team decent year-in and year-out. They really are as bad as advertised. They've lost 19 in a row now and unless they can beat Sacramento on Sunday, they're not winning for the rest of the year.

Charlotte isn't NY, Chicago, or LA so they have to build through the draft. MJ might not be the best franchise owner, but he saw he had a perennial 8th seed and ditched his top players for a shot at getting really good. You have to be really really shitty to get good in the NBA if you are a small market owner.
You stay classy, Ron Artest.
That was pretty fucking inexcusable. The celebration defense that has been thrown out there is laughable at best. I'm expecting a hefty fine and a multi-game suspension.

Not sure how you figure they were going to "get really good" trading off their top players.

Gerald Wallace would stay through everything. He is a former all-star; Charlotte will be lucky if they ever have one again. He provided floor leadership, which none of the Bobcats currently show. Gerald Henderson has yet to show me that this move made any sense but a cost cutting measure and added one pick (on a team that historically doesn't draft well).

Jordan banked on moving cap space to lure Chris Paul in free agency. Chris Paul, being a NC product, was a friend to Jordan. The real talk was Chris Paul was never going to come; he wanted to go to a team that could compete now, which the Bobcats can't provide.

What the Bobcats should have done was keep the team they had, i.e. Gerald Wallace, Tyson Chandler, etc, and pick with their one pick each year to fill the 1-2 missing pieces to push them from an 8 seed to a contender in the East. Instead they decimated the team for nothing...

YouTube Comments: Shake head. Weep for humanity.

Adam Morrison. Also, he ditched the talent because he couldn't pay them, not because he wanted to rebuild.

Make that 21 in a row now. I love how the announced blamed tonight's 28-point shalacking was blamed ONLY by the fact that Tyrus Thomas got a flagrant foul at the end of the 1st Quarter.

Seattle/OKC did it not that long ago and they now have one of the top teams in the league. Utah just did it as well. Orlando did it to get Dwight. Sucking to get good again is commonplace in the NBA so I don't understand why you are acting like this is new. Bill Simmons even devotes part of his book to it and talks about it all the time when it comes to the draft.

Gerald Wallace is a solid player, but by the time the team got good he would be old and there is no reason to pay him 11 million a year to play on a bad team. Getting rid of him for a pick and salary relief is the smart move. 20 - 30 million a year in losses is no joke and the only way to turn those losses around was not to suck so bad that the team got some young exciting players to sell fans on hope.

No one, and I mean no one, knew Tyson Chandler was going to become the Tyson Chandler he currently is. Anyone who says they could have predicted the resurgence he has had the past two years is a liar. Dallas got killed for that move considering everyone wanted them to get Al Jefferson. I can't fault MJ for wanting to save 12 million dollars by dealing for Damp.

Every team makes terrible draft picks. Hitting on a draft pick isn't always a surefire bet. Plus, there really were only 3-4 decent players in the draft when he got to pick and all except B-Roy were developmental guys (Lowry, Rondo, and Gay all took a little while to really get going).

And not wanting to pump money into a franchise that consistently is in the red is the smart play, especially when he knew there would be a lockout and there was a push for full scale economic change. It didn't go the way he wanted it to since he didn't get revenue sharing, but he made a play for it and spending money on players and having a high payroll would have made his argument for it look ridiculous.
Welcome to South Beach Nash.
I don't see it. He's always had the ball in his hands in his career, which won't happen in Miami. He could probably be an otherworldly spot up shooter, but I'm not sure if he'd want to do that. I'd guess Orlando before Miami, or he'll stay in Phoenix.
Seattle/OKC did it not that long ago and they now have one of the top teams in the league.
They are the ONLY example in recent history.

Utah just did it as well.
What being just over .500, 8th in West... It took a big veteran FA signing (Jefferson) to help turn that corner. Plus, Millsap finally developed (5 year vet). Guess what... Charlotte was the 7th team in when they had those two pieces I mentioned (as well as being slightly above .500).

Orlando did it to get Dwight.
What are you talking about... The Magic for Dwights first two seasons were still bad. They didn't turn the corner again until the hiring of Van Gundy and signing of FA Rashard Lewis. The Magic drafts since has one true pan out, Redick, who didn't see the floor for the first so many years. Nelson (trade on draft night) has been in talks of replacement for a year or so now. Note Dwight came into the league playing with a true vets Grant Hill, Steve Francis, and Cuttino Mobley. Who is on those Bobcats... ;)

Gerald Wallace is a solid player, but by the time the team got good he would be old and there is no reason to pay him 11 million a year to play on a bad team. You need a seasoned vet to mentor young players. The moment he was released there was ZERO leadership on the floor i.e. a big mess. For $11 mil, I would rather have leadership of the floor and a player who can provide numbers NOW that allows them to actually win on a given night. Instead they dealt him for the hope of a QUALITY free agent, whom they wont get. This is the only reason you clear cap. Plain and simple, no one of worth is going to choose to come to Charlotte. The draft pick most likely will be wasted based on Charlotte's draft history. Proof in the pudding is the record this year reflecting the bad moves.

No one, and I mean no one, knew Tyson Chandler was going to become the Tyson Chandler he currently is. Anyone who says they could have predicted the resurgence he has had the past two years is a liar. Dallas got killed for that move considering everyone wanted them to get Al Jefferson. I can fault him. Dampier was truly done before he ever stepped foot in Charlotte; same goes for the two scrubs that came with him. Chandler battled injury during his Charlotte season. Though during his healthy moments, he provided the killer defense he is known for. He held Howard to 9pts, 9rebs (well under his average) during the playoffs. He was pretty much completely healthy when the season ended. It was sad to see such a crappy trade (which is what Jordan/Bobcats are known for).

Note I could go on... like take Maggette's larger than life salary when he has been broken for years for Jackson who had less money on contract that was able to play....

Hey at least it has been nice to go to games on a Firesale this past season - I have had opportunity to go to 4 free games this season (paid by Bobcats organization - no way am I tied to the organization).

I wanted to cry when I saw Rose go down, but honestly, I think the Bulls are deep enough to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals and lose to the Heat even without him.

My heart sank when I found out that Rose is done. The guy almost gets a triple double and now we won't see him again till next season. Bulls are deep enough to do some damage but its going to be a tough fight in the second round. Best hope is that CJ's shot stays consistent and Lucas heats up like the other games.

Rose shouldn't have even been in the game at that point...especially considering the issues he has had staying on the court this year. A pretty rare bad move by Tom Thibodeau that will cost them dearly...

Mark Cuban us going to get fined on Monday if the Mavs lose. 3 terrible no calls on dirks defenders in the first half already seemed to have him livid.

And Indiana should be ashamed of themselves. To lose like that in their house to a team missing its best player is unacceptable.
Russell Westbrook is having a hell of a 3rd quarter.
He is going to need to shoot well if they are going to beat Dallas. Marion is going make Durant work all series.

Dallas seems to have a much better bench than OKC does, Harden seems to be the only bench played on OKC who is consistent.
OKC has better big men then they had last yr, it will be a fun series to watch. If it ends up being OKC vs the Heat for the Championship, I probably wont watch it.

Great game, but the Mavs should have won that game. That was an unreal shot by Durant and twice he has done that this season to the Mavs.

Yep it was close.

If the Heat don't win this year. I think they should dump one of the big 3 for solid center and a few bench players.

What was Marion thinking at the end? I know it's a small chance, but you got to at least get a shot off.
