Official 2011 Yard Sale Thread

I have pretty good luck flipping jeans too but you don't make much off each pair so you have to get them really cheap like 25 cents each or a bunch at a bag sale but that isn't that hard to do over here. Plus size jeans that are in perfect condition flip the best or any other odd sizes that you don't usually find the stores.

Savages...That's what happens when you trust in the interweb. I knew I should have looked at the letter order before posting.

I was going to give away some games too. You guys blew it, so to speak.

I was hoping for a free copy of Petz Donkiez. DAMNIT!

Can't wait to see what you got this week, Slowdive!

Today's sales were all about vintage toys...not so much games. In fact, the only games I found today were at the second stop, and they had the 2 GBA games. They weren't marked and the lady let me have them both for $1. As for toys, I found a couple he man figs, some smurfs, all marke 78-83, a banthrico diecast bank from '74, and a Topper toys Ding a Ling boxer. No power pack though, bummer.

Also found some old board game type finds: original Simon in the box, Stop Thief board game, rough shape but complete, and the electronic scanner works, and a give a show projector featuring scooby doo, with 16 film strips, and the projector works. These were all $1 each.

Hopefully tomorrow will be good too, going to a few sales early, then to an estate auction at 11.
Something tells me it will be very expensive. Of course I could be wrong. Just don't want to waste my time really.
Well, it could be, but it could be stock from a failed business or something of the sort as well. If you're not far from the location, I'd go.

BTW, I used to live around there, by Pebble Hills =P

Heh, no kidding? Small world. I'm only about 15 minutes away so I guess it couldn't hurt to check it out.

An estate sale I wanted to check out advertised having the Bozo the Clown set... but it's an hour way... Not something I'd actually want but just like to see.

There's a couple people on the forums from EP. I actually still have a 915 number on my cellphone cause I haven't bothered to change it, lol.

Great day! :)

I went to 6 sales I think, only 2 were advertised. And every other sale had games! I wish they were all like that.

All PS2:

Yakuza
Red Ninja: End of Honor
Need for Speed Underground
Fifa Soccer 06
God of War
Guitar Hero: Smash Hits
Rampage Total Destruction (no manual)
NHL 08

Grand Theft Auto Double Pack walkthrough (Vice City and 3)
PS2/PSP/PS3 "Cheater's Handbook" magazine

$2.35 total

I only saw the GTA guide at first (25 cents), also a GameCube for $15, but when I asked for games the guy pulled out the PS2 games and wanted 25 cents each! The cheat m,agazine was 10 cents. I didn't haggle. Next sale:

GameCube:
Karaoke Revolution Party (no manual)
The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
Worms 3D
The Simpsons Hit and Run (no manual)
Soul Caliber 2
Rampage: Total Destruction

PC:
Blade Runner

$6 total

This was a charity sale, I offered $5 for all the GCN games. Then, looking through a box of PC games (in their big boxes, all destroyed, Myst 1-3, Dune 1, Judge Dredd) I saw Blade Runner at the back! This was the only one in good condition! Yay! They said $1. The discs are perfect, the box is almost perfect, and it had all the inserts. :D

Great day today.

I found an old retro gaming stick (The cheap things you find in sears). She gave it to me for free. Scrubs season 1 $3. The big find was a working PSX with all cables, 2 controllers, and madden 2000 for $5.

Went yard saleing for roughly 3 hours today on a bike, and hit about 15 sales. One was a flea market where I found -

Cinderella Platinum 2 disk Special Edition DVD for $3

Then at the very next sale I found -

Duck Tales (NES) complete :D for $1

I was about to leave, when I realized that their PODS box was meant to be walked into because their yard sale extended into it. I see the NES with a controller, zapper, Duck Tales, some TMNT game and a few other pretty crappy ones and I ask how much. The guy says $20 so I ask how much for each game and he says $2 each- I offer $1 for Duck Tales. I'm happy. On a side note, I also picked up a Swiss Army laptop case for $3 that was brand new and some Dr Dre Beats earbuds sealed in the box for $46.

More good finds today: First sale I stopped at had this boxed SNES set:

IMG_1707.jpg

The system is pretty clean, two controllers, power cord, hook ups, paper work, instruction sheets, plastic bags. They apparently used the rf cable, as the RCA cables are still twist tied together, and look like they are new. Kind of a bummer that there is a large KMart sticker stuck in the middle of the system box... Had the Super mario world cart that came with it, as well as Star Fox loose, and Super Tennis (cart and box only) Super play action football (complete), and Super Mario All stars (complete) All this for $10.

My other game finds for today:
IMG_1708.jpg

Paid $1 for dark watch and test drive, and $3 for need for speed

Also went to an auction today. Was my first time going to this place, they have auctions every month, but I just found out about it after last months auction had taken place. It was a mix of all kinds of things, but they were almost all new. Their ad for this month mentioned '2 trailers of food' I didn't know what they meant by that, but it turns out it was actually 2 tractor trailers loaded with non parishable food stuff, which they auctioned off in lots....you could bid on unopened cases of corn flakes, or pasta, etc. kinda weird. Also lots of furniture. I ended up bidding on (and winning) this gumball machine. (my bid was $5, which turned out to be $5.65 because they tack on 13% buyer premiums at the payment window. ) On the fence about this place...it was neat, but there really wasn't anything gaming related there...I may give it another try next month, as some 'regulars' I sat next to said it's always different.

anyway, here's the gumball machine:
IMG_1709.jpg

Came with the key, and seems to work, but I'm trying to figure out how the mechanism inside works, because it'll turn without a coin in it, so I'm trying to figure out how to fix it so it needs the coin.

I know I haven’t been on for a while…….OK OK 2 years I did some posting in 2009 list but I though I would start posting again. I will try to be more active again as I have done wonderful this year. I still see some familiar names though.

I hit 6 sales and only purchased from 3 of them today. Not a A+ weekend but I would rate it at least a A-.

Here is what I got from 1 sale. They wonted $3.00 for each PS2 @ 28, $2.00 each for GC and XBOX @ 3, $1.00 each for PS1 and PC @ 17 . I didn’t really wont the sports titles or the PC games but thought I would see what he would take for the whole lot. He looked over and asked “ALL OF THEM!!!” I said yes he replied I don’t know ummmm 35 naa 50” I said I can do the 35 and he said OK so I got all of this. Not bad for 1 sale I just got to look at how well I did. I know I can move some of these in OK time. From 107 down to 35 ant bad. I need to look at what I can make but I think I will turn a good profit.

Then the one other sale had these GBA games each marked $1.00 and my mom (yes I sale with my mom at 35 please make something of it!) She was getting some other things so I through them all in one pile and asked if they could drop the price $1.50 I could have goon lower but it was for some girls going to camp and I have a soft heart for kids being outdoors and active.

678a0040.jpg

Oh I did buy a set of lights that fit like glasses for $0.25 at another sale but I am not picturing that.

Just to let you all know I now own a computer shop here in Lake Havasu City, AZ and am also going to be selling games through it. I started 2 months ago but am waiting for the phone book to come out. So its been slow but picking up. Once the phone book is out I plan to advertise some and also hit the swap meet next year to sell so that I can maybe get some of them into my store.

Sonic And The Secret Rings (Complete) - $3 IAP
NES (Parts Only) With Hookups & 10 Games (SMB/Duck Hunt Under Tetris) - $15
NES With Hookups, NES Advantage, N64 Controller & 18 Games (SMB 2 & 3 Are Complete Minus The Styrofoam Block) - $25

Asked about games and the guy brought out the broken NES with 10 games. Said he had another one that works I offered $10 to which he said he wanted $30 and showed his hand at $25 being the lowest he would go I said I'd do $25 if the other NES was in ok shape only to mention afterwards that the working NES is at a friend's house (When he first mentioned it I figured it was inside and all of the stuff was too much to handle in one trip) and he asked me to come back later for it to which I politely said I wouldn't be able to do. He then offered to just sell me all of the games & the broken system for $15.

Asked about games at one sale and was told that a buddy was bringing over an NES & PS2 that was late and offered to hold onto the NES for me. Came back about a half hour later, was asking $30 for the NES stuff I offered $20 to which was countered with $25 and I got the N64 controller added in also (which was actually in with the PS2, PSone bundle he was selling).

Got out at about 8 on Friday and was out for 2 hours, I only made a list of 10 sales around 2 areas since the Friday sales I've never been to for other areas was one or none. Only ended up being 7 sales out of the 10 open with some clouds in the sky even if rain wasen't in the forecast to start till some time this afternoon. I ended up getting to about 15 sales with a few unadvertised and a street sale I ended up going to on the way home that I've been to before and was going to skip but figured what the hell and burned about 45 more minutes yardsaling at since I wasen't out very long Friday.

The parts NES with games all look really bad, I was seriously leaning towards passing on it. The AC adaptor's plastic shell is cracked and is duct taped together. Everything is about as dirty as I've ever seen and I pointed out the AC adaptor and how bad the contacts on some of the games I looked at were. They mentioned cleaning them with rubbing alcohol but that isn't going to be enough some have really bad black marks from the teeth of the system and I'll surely end up taking the games apart to get at the contacts with an eraser. I would have passed if it wasen't for the hope of salvaging a few of the 1st party games. I didn't even notice till I got home but Tetris & SMB/Duck Hunt are stuck together with what I'm guessing is gum.

Saturday I was out from shortly after 8 and was out for 2 1/2 hours. Light rain off and on all morning but I only missed 2 or 3 sale that weren't open, around here people won't usually let a little rain stop them if they paid to advertise in the paper got to 19 sales total.

I didn't find anything on Saturday, one house a girl mentioned a SNES with a few games that she had but still played, another house a lady though she might still have some old games from years ago but had no idea where they would be if they were still around and at one of my first sales a guy had an old Nintendo with a "box" of games but didn't think anyone would want them and left them at home (this wasen't his place). I did have one house that mentioned selling an old "Nintendo" system earlier that they said was broken.

So there was a huge condo association having a community sale which involved about 10-15 people setting up sales all within a little area so that was cool. I got a complete NES with the box. It's not brand new but in good condition. The best part was all the games had books, the disappointing part was Final Fantasy not being there despite the manual being there.
Games:
Pinbot
Dr. Mario
The Adventures of Link X 2
Kirby's Adventure
Deathbots
Dudes with Attitude
Orb 3-D, as you can see even has the 3D glasses lol
Star Wars
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes back
Millipede
Abadox
Tetris
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Iron Sword 2
Toxic Crusaders
Faxanadu
The Adams Family
A Boy and His Blob
Fester's Quest
Trolls on Adventure Island
Willow
Lolo, with manual and strat guide

Manuals:
Final Fantasy
Book for the NES itself
Super Mario 3
Arkista's Ring

SNES
Zombies Ate My Neighbors(on of my favorites, think I had the genesis version)
Super Castlevania IV
Pacman 2

Not pictured:
Because I had to set stuff up, take a picture and then go and remove said picture because the memory card is full I didn't bother for the last one(not my camera so).

Various turbo nes controllers, one normal NES controller(probably should be in the boxed NES.
Tiger Simon's Quest handheld.

Woman wanted 40 for the NES(claimed she looked online and saw that as the price) and 4 dollars per game. I asked if there was something she could do about the prices if I bought the whole lot. She let me take it at 70. I'm still a newbie so I don't know if I should have tried to bargain her down even more. I felt like because she had looked up the NES price that was the main thing keeping the price up.

I feel like my pictures are a mess so sorry about that.

When I have someone do this I mention that buying on line they have usaly replaced the 72pin connector, Refurbished the systems and games, I have backing via Pay Pal that if something doesn't work I CAN get my money back, they spent all the time listing, pricing, paying fee's, and then worrying about if they were going to get a con artist who uses pay pal to rip them off. I explain that through a garage sale I am paying cash, I have NO recourse should something not work, I cant see how well others thought of the seller and then I finish everything off with they are selling to the all the us and your selling to a small city its going to be hard to get that price in this town.

This eather gets the price down or gets you asked to leave ether way you win.

Haha, yeah I thought about how selling online is nothing compared to the convenience of someone handing you cash in person but I didn't want to press my luck I guess. I needed an NES to test games for sure because theres some more common, not fun ones I want to get rid of. I don't feel too bad because locally 25 is the minimum for just a system, no box or anything. If I saw a similar lot, which I would now not have any need for, I would probably use your advise to see where I could go with the price.

@casperinian: $70 was a good buy price on your lot there, as the Zombies Ate Your Neighbors and Super Castlevania alone can easily get you $30-40. The in-box Action Set and nes games with manuals are also very nice; I'm thinking the whole works is worth at least double what you paid.

I think you did quite well. Most of those games are not commons. I would have offered $50, and hoped she would accept it or counter with $60. If you really want the items sometimes it is not worth upsetting the person either. As you deal more, you will get a feel for it. I would be happy with the lot! Of course each person has their own approach...

Snotknocker would have headbutted her and held out a $5 bill! ;) (If anyone doesn't know snotknocker used to post in the yard sale threads with Epic tales of bargains and games).

I didn't get a chance to post my finds from last week, so here we go!

Last weekend had crappy weather with very few sales advertised. However one sale noted games specifically. It was a half hour drive one way, but I couldn't resist! When I got there the selection had been well picked through (I HATE Friday sales!). I did find a few decent items:

First generation Sega Genesis w/ Sega CD: $4

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Game Cube $2 each, PS3 $5 each:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Game guides $1 each (Fire Emblem is sealed):

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Sears Telegames Video Arcade II $15. Complete system and box, no packaging:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

There was alot of stuff there for the 2600, PS1, PS2, XBOX, and some Intellivision. I swear with all the game guides and stuff this guy has to be a CAG. The person that owned the stuff was not actually there, his mother was selling it for him. She said he has two more storage units full of stuff! :whistle2:o I left a number with a small list of things i'm looking for but of course I never heard from him.

Had a very good day! :D There were 3 neighborhood sales and 2 community sales. I estimate that I reached about 50 sales, quite a few for this area.

I started off in one of the neighborhood sales, first thing I found was a Final Fantasy IX wall banner for $3

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
There was no other game related items at that sale.

I then go back across the street to a sale that I skipped because it looked like it contained only furniture. I found these:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
The cables are (1) loose Nintendo SP AC adaptor and (1) sealed MadCatz Nintendo SP AC adaptors for wall socket and the car, each of them were $1. Star Wars Force Unleashed was priced $3 and Zelda $4 with Jedi Star Fighter $2. I offered $5 for everything but he said Star Fighter was his son's and he couldn't go lower on it. He said he could take $5 for the Wii games though. I paid up the $9 total and went on my way.

I ran across a sale on a side road that nobody else was going to. When I pull up I see a boxed Magnavox Odyssey 2 up front. I open it and sure enough all the packaging was there and the system looks mint! The guy running the sale says he got it from his grandma and that he had been trying to get rid of it for awhile. The price: $5. I tell him I need to think about it and proceed to dig through more stuff. I found a Final Fantasy X GH in a box marked $2. I offer $5 for both of them which he accepts. He told me his PS2 quit on him and he's selling off some games but couldn't find them all (I should have left my number for when he found them). When I was leaving I heard him yell in the house "I sold the Odyssey!" He wasn't the only one excited.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I now have two of these, the other one has "The Voice" attachment and I have all but 12 of the games for the system CIB.

Then my dad bought a box with a VCR and assorted tapes for $5. Found these in the bottom of the box:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
FREE!

Another sale had assorted XBOX and PS2 sports games for $3 each. Grabbed these:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Finally I went to a sale in a bad neighborhood which had a bunch of old sci-fi novels for a dime each.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I was so enthralled with looking at the books that I almost missed the orange zapper gun sticking out of the box next to it. I looked inside and saw a complete NES with lots of games. I ask how much for the system and she says $50. I must have looked at her like she was crazy because she then said there was one game in it that "has, like 100 games or something". I open the box and inspect further and offer $40 which was accepted (should have went lower!!! :bomb:). The box contains a complete NES with all hookups, two controllers, zapper gun, game genie, and 41 games in hardshell cases including:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
and

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
The console has a "Super Power Club" sticker on the front.

Wow, you guys are finding some great stuff! I haven't even seen one of those before today.:applause:
Wow, you guys are finding some great stuff!
I'm pretty envious of the finds. I went out early on Friday and Saturday and hit about 50 sales total. I bought a lot of profitable DVDs (something like 20 total), some CDs, and some books. I'd consider it a good weekend overall (I always find enough to keep me going) but I'm still running poorly on games.

The only vintage stuff that I saw was a Genny with about 10 crappy games and they were asking $50. I saw my first PSP system but it was marked $100 . . . how do I offer $20 when that's the start point? I saw a PS3 that was marked $175 OBO . . . I guess I could've tried $50 but . . . meh.

I saw a PS2 with something 15 games . . . all were nice titles (no sports) but low-value common stuff asking price? $150. I did pull out a complete copy of Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2 and offered $5 . . . which she accepted. Already sold it for $27 on Amazon.

My only other game was a copy of Acme Arsenal for Wii for $1. . . . that's how badly I did.

Went to about 20 sales on Saturday and nothing.

Though I left my number at 3 different sales I'm not expecting much. One garage sale some guy had an Atari 2600, Dreamcast and Genesis that he was keeping out of nostalgia... I saw them sitting on the floor in his garage dirty as hell.

OK weather held out, so I was able to snap some pics...

They had crappy PS2 Sports games for $3 each. These N64 games were .50 each

FREE at a different sale! The Diablo II says it works on European servers, so I am not sure if it is some kind of bootleg or what. It has a CD key on the case though.

Paid $9 for these. The gameboy is a clear purplish color.

Phillips 4 way switches SEALED $1 each. I figured these would be good for my old CRT TV to hook up old consoles. (I forgot to go back to buy the rest). They cost around $20 each still on Amazon.
Nice, 7th Guest and King's Quest VI free. I have like 3 copies of KQ6 =P
I picked up the 11th hour either last year or the beginning of this year, so it is nice to have both games. It is complete with the VHS tape too.
I'm so jealous of you all. I've yet to go to a single sale. This crappy weather needs to end.
Where are you at in Illinois? (approximately)

Here's what I got at yard sales and a Goodwill yesterday, not much considering I drove around for 4 hours.

Blue Game Gear w/ NBA Action, Metroid Zero Mission & Uno Free Fall GBA carts - $5
Red Dead Revolver PS2 no manual - $1
Mortal Kombat Trilogy PS1 GH - $2.99
Microsoft Money 2007 Deluxe - $2.99
Dance Factory w/ mat - $3

Found some stuff at the swap meet today, I didn't get there until 11:30 and it was fucking hot out so most of the vendors were closing already.

Mario Paint SNES CIB w/ box, styro, mouse, mousepad etc
2 Original GameBoys, one missing battery cover, various accessories and cleaning kits, Track & Field cart, PS1 GameShark and GBC GameShark
$20 total

I'm pretty happy to find a CIB Mario Paint, never seen one before.

PS2 GameShark Version 3 disc only
Star Wars KOTOR Xbox disc only
$8

Castle In The Sky 2 disc DVD - $2

Some ok finds yesterday, sorry for lack of pictures but this morning was my graduation and I'm afraid I just don't have the energy.
 • PS1 Gran Turismo (big case) - $1
 • Logitech V220 wireless laptop mouse - $2 sealed
 • Ti-86 Calculator (works but screen has thick black lines when turned on) - $3
 • Gigaware iPod cable - $1 sealed ($20 new at Radioshack? what a ripoff, lol)

And at a later sale that just happened to pop up when I was on my way somewhere else...
PS1
 • Mega Man X4 (disc only)
 • Mega Man Legends 2 (disc only)
 • Gundam Battle Assault 2 (no manual)
 • Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (CIB)
 • Thunder Strike 2 (CIB)
 • Driver 2 (CIB)
PS2
 • Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny (CIB)
 • TimeSplitters (CIB)
Total: $4.25

MML2 makes it worth it easily, the rest are just decent cheapo games and such (been wanting to play the TimeSplitters series for a while.)

Really glad to see everyone posting their finds, especially with pictures.
