Official 2012 Yard Sale Thread

Finds 6-2-12

After being up until about 4am Friday night, I overslept until 7:45. Thought I was screwed for some sales I wanted to get first dibs on. Lucky for me that I wasn't the only one that overslept...

I arrived at the sale I wanted to check out at about 8:30 expecting it to be cleaned out..... they had just started setting up! The guides were $1 each except for the Fallout guides which were $2 each. The only guide I left was Alan Wake since I don't own the game.... or a 360. When I grabbed the Fallout NV SE book, the guy went in the house and got a baggie with the poker chips and playing cards and gave them to me. He then talked himself down to $1 on DC Universe saying you may have to buy an online pass. The G.I. Joe season 1.1 was $6. Paid $16 total for everything pictured. If the guy running the sale is out there reading this, you're fucking awesome dude!

Found some CDs that I apparently couldn't live without.
Bob & Tom $2 each
Alice in Chains - Facelift $1
Led Zepplin - Led Zepplin II $2
NIN - "The perfect drug" versions $1
Jefferson Airplane - The worst of jefferson airplane $2
The Beatles - 1967-1970 (2 disc) $5

I don't really listen to Bob & Tom but a guy at a local shop told me people around here go nuts for them and pay $15-$20 each. Figure I could make a few bucks. Normally $2 is my limit on any used CD and I have to really like it to pay that much, but The Beatles are going to set you back no matter where you get them. Plus this album has most of the songs I like from them.
They had one 360 game too...the Lego Indiana Jones/Kung Fu Panda duel pack for $15............give me a break.
The only 360 game I saw today was the Lego Indiana Jones single game edition for $20 used. (They also had Halo & Halo 2 for $10 each and some crappy girl's DS game for $5). Passed on all of that stuff.

Also was ready to buy Black Eyed Peas Monkey Business for 75 cents, but noone was around so I just set it back and walked off.
This is my first post in this thread, so i hope you all enjoy:

So my town is having a community garage sale. I just found out about it yesterday. So I decided to work from home today so I could go check some of these out early in the morning. So I headed out and found everything you see below. Spent $31 on it all. All the SNES stuff was in a box for $25. I didn't bother negotiating b/c i was in shock.

Check it:

Really nice lot!

Invicta61 Those finds are insane! I might start hitting IN.

I had a family emergency so I got to an 8:00 sale at 8:05 this morning. The lady told me she had just sold a Nintendo and Sega (genesis) and around 25-30 games for $20 about 2 minutes before I got there. :bomb:

I actually passed the guy as he was leaving the sale because it is in an area, where there is only one road in and out. I still bought a couple of games that they hadn't put out, so it wasn't a total loss.

TBH, I am having much better luck hitting the thrift store lately. I've been working on GS and Thrift pics, so hopefully I can get some stuff posted soon.

I might just make my own pickup thread, so I don't have to categorize everything.

Not much luck this morning. Seemed like everything was overpriced junk. My favorite was the "new" Wii for $150.

Picked up a couple Leapfrog Handhelds for $2 that I'll probably flip, a slim PS2 for $5 (the AV cable is unusable though), some DS Math trainer game for a buck, and Dance Dance Revolution Disney Channel Edition with pad for 15 cents (though I later realized the game wasn't in the case).

I should have posted pics of my haul last week, found tons of games and systems dirt cheap.

Didn't get much this morning. Hit 3 neighborhood sales and a rummage sale.
$3.00 King Kong Production Diaries
$1.00 about 100 pokemon cards (4 foil) and zelda oot 3d guide.
$0.50 Mint greatest hits Resident Evil Directors Cut
And $4.00 unused / very clean bird carrying cage.

Also got some dvd / game stands, each one will hold 48 games. Got two for $1.00

Went back to the community sale I went to yesterday as I kept hearing more people would be out.

There wasn't much, as we were on our way to leave I had picked up three copies of this Wolverine sticker (by Raney) from 1993. No idea where they were from... comics, free comic day, cereal or what, but they had a stack of easily 100 or more and had them marked 10 cents or 3 for a quarter.

On the way out, one family that had some free stuff put a ton more of stuff out so my sister and I raided it. I got Dawn of the Dead (Director's Cut) on VHS and the soundtrack to Elektra. Also found my nephews a few Nick videos there and at another free box including some Catdog, Hey Arnold, and Sponge Bob.

Saw about 5 360 games. $5 2011 sports titles, GH3 for $5 and then Hot Pursuit for $10. Passed on all of them.

PS1 Rpg - The games are all mint; seller knew what they were worth - $60 for all and $10 for the ps2 game (sealed)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Game Boy adv, color, SP Printer, Camera LOT - $ All games were $2.00 each. She had 90 total games in the box. I tried to buy them all for $1.50 each but she would not budge on the price. She said if I bought them all for $2.00, She would give me a $3.00 discount. I cherry picked out the good ones. The sp systems were 10 each and the printer, camera, and paper were 15. The printer and camera both have their factory seals intact

What a disappointing fucking day, we got an early start for nothing. I swear, it must be national "sell off grandma's old junk" day.

Only thing I found, gaming-wise, was a complete copy of Firefighter FD 18 :pS2: for $1. Non-gaming, I picked up three NIB McFarlane horror figures for $2 - 2 Freddie Kreuger, 1 Pumpkinhead.

Shovelware and cart-only crap DS games for $5-10/each. I almost picked up a disc only of Lego Star Wars Complete Saga :pS3: for $5 to flip to Best Buy, but I have NEVER seen a Bluray disc wrecked as bad as this one.

^Ahh look at the bright side, at least you are not stuck at home on a beautiful day cause your clutch is fuct.

and white3er, fuck you , fuck you man.

Well, overall, today didn't meet expectations, but I managed to find some decent goodies. Some I'm going to keep, some of them...not. Here goes...

dscn1228i.jpg

GTA3, GTA San Andreas, Mortal Kombat - $2
007 - Nightfire - $2
Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO (Xbox) - $5
Might've overpaid for CvS, but I can get rid of my GC version now...boy, that controller sucks for fighting games.

dscn1225fv.jpg
Paid $5 each for Castlevania II, StarTropics, and StarTropics II. Yeah, overpaid a bit, but I never see them at garage sales or stores...so I figured, what the hell.

These I did a little bit better...
dscn1224r.jpg

Paid $3 for everything. Didn't think too much of it until I realized that both Warcraft III and its expansion pack were NEVER OPENED. I'm going to keep a few of them, but I'm willing to sell or trade the others here.

And here's my find of the day...
dscn1226.jpg

dscn1227ay.jpg

Paid $13 for everything. The Pokemon Gold is complete, with the box and all the inserts.

So overall, not such a bad day.

First time going out this year. It was a community sale not too far away, and I was already up. GF asked if I wanted to go, and decided to, since I wanted to head that direction to recycle some electronics anyways.

First sale, each game was $1, and the book was 50¢:
2012-06-16_14-42-43_9.jpg

Need to see if I have Armada 2 or not so I can sell it.

Rest of the sales didn't have much, and I was bored an hour and a half later.

Did see a Kinect bundle for $250 (bleh), and a DS with Mario 64 and non-noteworthy games without a charger for $25. Was trying to haggle, but since it wasn't theirs, and they couldn't reach the owners, I didn't bother.

Had a cat emergency and had to be at the vet when they opened. :(
Got to stop by about 5 sales afterwards though. Lots of Xbox/Gamecube/DS games, all sports/shovelware, all $5 each. Also saw a DSi for $55. Thought about that one, but I didn't trust this seller.

Ended up just getting two Wind Waker guides for $1 each. Hope for better luck next weekend.

I went to a small street sale before I had to go to a zombie walk for work :D.

My only gaming find. $3 for both. AoE 3 is a father's day gift for my dad. I swear he has more hours logged into AoE 2 and C&C: Red Alert than I have into my whole collection, but he only plays at night.

The rest was really random stuff that I bought, but at the prices I couldn't turn down. DVDs, comics, etc spoiler.

Paid $10 for all these DVDs. These are DVDs I would never have thought to see at a yardsale.

$5 for all these comics.

Vampyres II: The Undead is a limited run of a portfolio by Bill Sienkiewicz and is signed. I can not get a gauge on the price for this since neither ebay nor Amazon have anything. Any of the booksellers on here know where I can check?

An InFocus projector for $1. Needs new bulb...

And spoiler within a spoiler for item that is no way, shape or form nerdy.
$2 for this wicker picnic basket set. My girlfriend has been mentioning she wanting one of these.
I live in Oswego. My plan is to go as far as like Earlville or Mendota. There's a flea market in Leland I wanted to look up and a small game store in Sandwich where I've had some luck.

Not looking forward to the heat, but I figure I'll take a cooler of water and some extra sunblock. Not a great plan, but I haven't freestyled in a few months.
Oh wow, I live right by Ottawa and Mendota!

man, i need that DK for GBA to complete my NES Series collection. is it CIB? Nice finds!
Oh wow, I live right by Ottawa and Mendota!
I only got out as far as Leland today. Thought about going out farther, but I wasn't having a lot of luck, so I turned around.

I got a text from my Mom, who had stopped by a yard sale while she was out, and she found this for $5...

picture.php

A Mini Super Nintendo! It didn't have any cables, so I asked her to try to haggle it down to $2(I was going to jump on it for $5 anyways). They accepted the offer. I hooked it up using my own SNES cables, popped in Tetris Attack and it came right up! Can't wait to take out the plastic tabs in the cartridge slot so I can play my Super Famicom games on it.

I actually managed to get out fairly early today and hit a few yard sales. There must not be much competition out there because I didn't get out until almost noon and there were still tons of games and consoles everywhere, but most of it was either stuff I already have (and I don't have the patience for flipping) or stuff I didn't want. The stuff I ended up buying pales in comparison to what you guys normally go home with, but this is seriously the best yard sale day I've had in years. And I believe this is the first time I've ever gone to a yard sale in this town that had more than just sports games. Anyway...

201206pickups3.jpg

$2 each (they wanted $3 each). Probably not the best possible deal, but they're some of the cheapest NES games I've ever bought and they're all worth at least twice as much. This same sale also had a few PS2's, a GameCube, and various PS2 and GBA games (and more NES), but these were all I really cared about. I also picked up an awesome LeapFrog alphabet toy for my son for $3. I probably could've got it for less, but they put in new batteries for me, so I didn't mind paying it.

201206pickups4.jpg

Got these at a moving sale. $6 total for the three airsoft pistols and 3000 pellets (plus the pellets included with each gun). Almost walked away with nothing because I already owned all of the games they had for sale, but my wife happened to notice these under the table. Everything was still sealed and they work great. I don't know how much stuff like this is worth, if anything, but I highly doubt I overpaid.

EDIT: Just checked eBay and the cheapest I see one of these guns going for is $13. I don't know if they're actually worth that much, but it makes me feel good about the purchase.

Plenty of sales advertising games this weekend, unfortunatly they all started on Thursday or Friday.

GameCube w/ 2 power chords and memory card $3.
(2) GameBoy Advance SP w/ one charge cable $5.
Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust PS3 $4.
F-Zero GP Legend GBA (complete) $1.50.
Millipede/Super Breakout/Lunar Lander (complete) $1.50.

The GC had no A/V cables or controllers and the Madden disc inside had chew marks (not that I really wanted it). I mostly wanted it for the spare power supplies and memory card.

The two GBA SP hold a charge, but the blue one is beat to shit with a crack in the hinge. I'm going to use it to swap parts with one that won't charge. I found a second power supply at a sale two houses down for $1.

I didn't even know they had a Leisure Suit Larry game for the PS3.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Battlestar Galactica Cyclon Raider $1.
Transformers $.25 each.

The Cyclon Raider is an original (1976, made in Hong Kong) but is missing the spring loaded missles. I also still have the one from when I was a kid.

I also still own all of the Transformers (except the two on the right) from when I was a kid. The guy told me someone had come and bought up all the other first gen. stuff he had. How could you leave Mirage for $.25?

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Last week everyone had cheap DVDs, this week is was cheap CDs.
The Essential Johnny Cash (3 disc) and Rush Chronicles were $2 each.
The rest were in a package deal for $15 (12 CDs, 1 VHS).
^ the expensive ones are electric or gas. How many FPS 200?
I know absolutely nothing about this stuff, so I have no idea what you're asking (to me, "FPS" = "frames per second" or "first-person shooter"). All I can see is that these are just spring-loaded and don't use carbon dioxide or anything. Which is perfect for us 'cause they won't hurt too bad if we get shot with them (although I did get a tiny welt when I shot myself in the foot).

all I saw was some guy with an NES with 30 common games for $500. The best part was it was a moving sale and according to him "everything absolutely MUST go! we HAVE to get rid of all of it!" yet he refused to come down on the price when I explained to him that what he had wasn't even worth 1/5 of what he was asking. He kept insisting "the games alone go for more than that on ebay!" I wanted to say to him okay well put it on ebay and see how much you actually get for it, then factor in their 13% fee for selling games! There needs to be a "yard sale stupidity" thread now!

I swear ebay has pretty much ruined yard sales and flea markets. It makes me wanna work at a place like on Pawn Stars so I can just stand there and tell people that their priceless family heirlooms are actually worthless all day!

This seemed to be a pretty slow weekend for everyone....I guess because of Father's Day or something?

I once asked a guy about a mini granite chess set he had. He told me $20 or something I don't recall. Since I didn't look interested anymore in it, this dick turns to his wife and says " it's ok we'll sell it on ebay and get more for it" . I was like wtf is this dude on, I didn't even say anything. Turns out it goes for around $35 on ebay shipped. He'd be wasting his time. The people that say the word ebay will never sell on ebay.

Think about it, out of how many garage sales you guys have gone to ,how many times have you used the word ebay? Probably only time is in response to someone mentioning ebay. When I here ebay that means it is time to go.

If they want to base it on ebay prices, fine.

What's annoying to me is when they print out how much a new one costs, and price their used one at $5 less and act like they're savvy or doing you a favor.

I hear ebay at almost every yard sale I go to lol! Half the time the people don't even know what it goes for on ebay, they just THINK it would go for a lot on there.

The thing I really hate is that I've started selling on ebay a lot recently and you have to pay more fees for video games than anything else, its like 13% or something....yet these a-holes think they can charge the same price or usually even higher than what something goes for on ebay at a yard sale when they don't have to pay a selling fee, don't have to take pictures, don't have to type a description, or do any of the work it takes to actually sell on ebay.

This is why I've started driving about an hour away to another big city to go to their yard sales and its a night and day difference from where I live. People around where I live now think they are running an antique store out of their garage. In fact, I found one guy having a "vintage toy sale". He had literally thousands of he-man, transformers, thundercats, anything you can think of from the 80s....but he wanted like double what they go for on ebay, all the while he is selling them out of his bug infested, dirty, ten thousand degrees in the summer shed and he is in one of the most run-down, crime ridden parts of town where no one could ever afford any of that stuff. It just sickened me to see like 10 boxed Snake Mountains and Castle Greyskulls crammed into a corner with cobwebs all over them and water dripping on them, knowing that he probably paid next to nothing and told the original owners "oh these aren't really worth a lot, I'll give you 10 dollars for them", and then justs let them sit there and rot because he won't sell them for reasonable prices, and people that actually appreciate stuff like that will never get their hands on it.

I just roll my eyes since I got a little calculator in my head that tells me I never have to pay more than they would clear after fees and shipping :booty: They're just your typical noobs with dollar-signs in their eyes.

Hit a few sales on Friday morning since I was going out of town Saturday. Got the following:

For 9.50:
- Black Gamecube with Gameboy Player and Zip up game holder
- Donkey Kong Beats with Drums

Came with 2 gameboy player discs and all cables.... No controllers though. I guess they had a bunch of gamecube games for 50 cents each and some lady cleaned them out... Damn!

Medal of honor collection for ps2 for $2.

2 baseball bat, 2 wheel, and 1 golf Wii attachments brand new for 2.50.

Final fantasy tactics, castlevania sotn, and mgs3, all complete for $5.

That was all I found, but then at my dads (person I learned to haggle from) mentioned he picked up a nes with some games for $4 at a garage sale so I picked those up from him for what he paid. NES was super clean with 2 dogbone controllers. Games are mostly commons, but there was one gem.... Snow Brothers. Cart is clean and I will see if it works when I get home. Can't believe I've had 2 rare nes games in the past month. Talk about luck. XD

Saturday was pretty good after a few slow weeks. Games wise I got

The Guy Game PS2 Complete
Sonic Adventure DC Complete
X-Men vs Street Fighter PSOne Disc Only
Square PSone samplete (lost mine) disc
Vandal Hearts PSOne Disc Only
Vandal Hearts II Psone Disc only
Ghost in the Shell PSOne Disc Only
G-Darius PSOne Disc Only
Metroid Fusion GBA complete, New and Sealed but box is in rough shape.

Al for $20. A bit over priced for me but the guy knew what he had and there was a lot of people there. I figure the XMen vs Street Fighter will get me my money back.

At another Yard sale I got cart only

Super mario 3 (sticker damage)
Dragon Warrior III

$4 total with two shot glasses.

At a pawn shop I got a Complete NBA Jam PS3 with a DVD for $7.

At another yard sale I got two cart only 3ds games

Super Street 4 3D
Pokemon Battle Revolution

$5 total.

I had a few non-game finds.

Superman Showcase TPB - .50 cents
Gremlins story and record - .25 cents apiece (there were 4 I bought)
V for Vendetta Special Edition (with comics) - $1
2 high quality Dog bowls - $1 apiece
2 High Quality Metal Pepsi signs for the Girlfriend - $1.25 apiece
Horrible Bosses DVD - $1

And the highlight.....

I went to a yard sale that I was at 6 months ago where the guy was selling comics. I bought a few comics from them (Dark Knight Returns 1,4, Batman 608 2nd print variant etc) and they told me they had sold Walking Dead 1-25 for $1 apiece. I had a few drinks with them and left behind a few comics I wanted. They had another yard sale this week as they were moving and I bought 29 comics for $17. They were mostly reading comics but I did get a mint NYX #3 wich is a very hard to find comic from the alst few years (1st X23).

All I found today was a box filled with overpriced Atari 2600 games, you can tell I'm an AVGN fan because I actually wanted the abomination that is E.T, and I remember an episode where he talked about SwordQuest so I thought I'd check it out.

Oh and im also planning on selling a shitload of old sports games that are just taking up room to my local Play N' Trade. I figure selling them on eBay isn't even worth the trouble. Ill post a couple private pics in case I'm accidentally about to give away a "gem". Opinions appreciated :D

Nice find on The Guy Game. They rarely turn up at local shops, or GS for that matter. I had to travel 50 miles to pick up a copy that was missing the manual. Amazon sells them but Ebay won't.

Unless you have a second copy, I would keep Ice Hockey for the NES. Not worth much but I still enjoy playing it! The rest of that stuff..... bleh.

Maybe they have a policy against it (I really don't know), but I see it on eBay all the time. In fact, there are several copies on there right now. It's been on my watchlist for quite some time.

I remember in other discussions here on CAG that it was mentioned that the game was not allowed because of nudity (and possibly the scandal surrounding the game). Sure enough there are copies of it available though.

I've had a few good hauls in the last few months, but I think this weekend takes the cake. I didn't take photos of everything, but I did snap a few highlights.

Genesis Lot by ChuckT2012, on Flickr

Six games for sixty cents. Dude was also selling complete in box Star Trek figures for low low prices, but I passed on them because I was unsure of their value. I'll probably kick myself if I look them up.

Famiclone by ChuckT2012, on Flickr

Chinese Famiclone and bootleg carts - $20. More than I wanted to pay, but I thought it was a pretty neat find. The girl grabbed it from her house after I told her I played video games, and gave me everything she thought I would need to plug it into my television. Apparently, this famiclone also requires:
- two cell phone chargers
- one computer monitor cable
- one soldering gun

Large Lot Highlights by ChuckT2012, on Flickr

These are just a few of the highlights from a huge huge lot I landed this afternoon. Someone I've bought from before emailed and told me her brother gave her all of his games to sell. I went to take a look, and she had three grocery sized boxes full of games and systems. We bounced around prices, and settled at $2 per item. As I was clearing the stuff out, she hauled out a CD rack full of games and tossed it in. All told, I ended up with 100+ games, five systems, and enough accessories to last a lifetime. Time to start selling.

Bombsweeper by ChuckT2012, on Flickr

My favorite find of the weekend. $5. Found in a stack of toys at a random yard sale. The woman who sold it to me even replaced the batteries so I could test it. Sweet.

- World of Warcraft CIB - PC
- WoW: Burning Crusade CIB - PC
- Battlefield 2142 CIB - PC
- Imperial Glory CIB - PC
- Some other random disc-only pc games in a cd-wallet (air battles of WWII is the only one that comes to mind)

- Fable 2 Stratefy Guide
- Various Sims 2 / Sims 3 Strategy Guides (Junk to me)

That game is kinda crappy, so you should just let me take it for $3. ;)

I wish I could find a decent cheap PSP or some 3DS games around here. Looks like it's time for me to start the 7 am grind again this weekend.

I basically never hear the word ebay around here, there are obviously people that price their items way too high, and those items will not sell so the people will be left with a bunch of junk they can't sell anywhere and they will have to deal with that, after paying $29 to put an ad in the paper for their yard sale.

I think the ebay "dream" so they call it has pretty much faded here, it was alive 5-10 years ago when anyone could sell on ebay and you could accept money orders and checks but now you have to have a paypal account and a bank account/credit card in order to sell on ebay and I think a lot of people around here don't have these things so they can't sell on ebay. I have met quite a few yardsalers who were selling their previous ebay inventory, aka they quit selling on ebay due to policy changes and fee changes and had a bunch of leftover junk they wanted to get rid of... I think there are more people who are fleeing ebay than anything these days. Moreover, 99% of people who talk about selling on ebay don't actually sell on ebay because they are too lazy and simply can't be bothered or as I mentioned before its too much trouble to set up...

99% of people here come to a yard sale with under $10 in their pocket, so again, you have to work with that, no one will pay $30-40 for a random toy or $30 for a DVD. If I tried to sell at those prices here at a yard sale I would probably get ridiculed all day long and no one would buy anything, thus I would be wasting my time. I would basically get laughed at. I yard sale enough to know that most people here don't even sell half of what they put out even if they mark everything at 25 cents.

If people see ebay printed prices they will walk, if prices are too high people will walk, people want a good deal, they don't want to deal with someone who knows what everything they have is worth. People here also don't seem to have a problem with telling a yard sale owner that their prices are too high!

I still have to deal with high prices where I'm at. like yesterday. Gamecube, no cords or controllers. I asked to be sure and, sure enough "Those are worth a lot of money" so....$100.

Prices here are insane, people want $100 for CRT TV's, that probably wouldn't sell no matter the price. Its hard to find a TV for under $50 here when in reality the CRT TV's should be given away for free. Don't get me started on computer monitors where most people want $15-20 for old, ugly CRT monitors.

But then you have other houses where everything is priced as expected, but rarely for TV's and Computer monitors, of course these things don't sell. You also have houses where clothing is $10 an item, at other houses everything is 25 cents. Its just amazing how much prices vary.
