Official 2012 Yard Sale Thread
Hit a sale this morning and saw an atari 2600 box. Sadly just the box. Passed as I don't have the system.
Boxes are more valuable than consoles, silly CAG. I would have bought it if it was a buck or two and in good shape. I bought a SNES one a year or two ago and it didn't take me long to fill it with a system.

Anybody go to this yard sale

Walked to a sale this morning and nearly melted. I could see if from my front yard, but it was a bust. Some junky $3 DVDs, some ps2 games (gt3, GTA San Andreas were the "cream").

Saw one sale advertised "call first, we won't be putting anything outside due to the extreme heat."

No joke: 110 degrees in the shade on our porch.

Friday was a bust for me, but had a fairly decent day today.

I will attempt accessing my photo bucket account and posting pictures for the first time later today.

A day without the kids and a day full of overall "meh."

The only decent finds of the day was a dirty, yellow SNES with two controllers, all cables, a blue Justifier lightgun and Pitfighter and a Super Gameboy for $2 and a Crimson DS Lite, with case and game for $20. The game was paws and claws something, but I took that right to Best Buy and got $8.40 for it.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that I picked up a pair of like new green Adidas ZX 700s for $5, and they just so happened to fit me perfectly.

I think today was too hot, all the good sales were absent, and only the trashiest of trash decided to have sales. I hate to call people that, but damn if it wasn't true this week.

EDIT: Oh! Found multiple sellers with Wii Systems for sale, but they were all right near retail. One person had a Wii w/ 3 games (Smash Bros, Wario Shake It and some shovelware) for 150.00 - Offered to buy Smash, no go, "it's a great deal for everything as is!". Sure...

The bad part is, you're right.

Giving embedding some images in my posts a shot.

Here is what I found on a dismal Friday.. had the wife and kids with me as we needed to do grocery shopping and she insisted on joining.

First sale I got the following for $2.50
- PS2 - Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex
- Resident Evil 5 - Limited Edition Laser Cel

IMG_0773.jpg

An hour or so later I got the following for $5
- Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (in a Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Battle 22 case)
- Boom Bots (back card in case)
- A Bug's Life (back card in case)

IMG_0770.jpg

That was my Friday...

So.. I started my Saturday (solo this time) hoping for some better finds.

First find of the day was a Nyko Perfect Shot for $1. They had it with a Wii with 8 or 9 games (shuffle-ware).. all for $125. Glad I was able to cherry-pick this attachment out because I really wasn't interested in the rest of it.

IMG_0767.jpg

Ran into about 4 or 5 sales that didn't have anything and then found the following on an off-shoot sign I saw, that I probably would have missed. Paid $10 for the following:
- PSone with matching controller
- White Dual-Shock 2 controller
- Atari Anniversary Edition Redux (complete)
- The Powerpuff Girls - Chemical X-traction (complete)
- Pacman World 20th Anniversary - (disc and back-card only)
- The Incredibles - PS2 Greatest Hits

Everything else they had at the sale were random, old sports games.

IMG_0768.jpg

Next sale netted the following disc only games for $1 total:
- Smackdown vs Raw - 2006 - PS2
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 - Xbox
- Cabela Big Game Hunter 2005 Adventures - Xbox
- Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 - Xbox
- Call of Duty Finest Hour - Xbox
- Goldeneye Rogue Agent - Xbox

IMG_0769.jpg

Final sale of the day netted me the following. When I showed up, the guy said he didn't have any video games, but as I was looking over stuff he was thinking and said to me hold a second and went to his cellar. He came back up with the box of this stuff and just said make me an offer. I offered $10 for it all + a K-State light up traffic-light (K-State Alumni!).
- Sega Genesis Model 1 w/ Sega CD attachment
- Family Feud (CIB)
- Mortal Kombat
- Sonic 2
- NBA Jam (holla!)
- Game Genie
- Other random sports games

IMG_0759.jpg

I noticed there wasn't a power adapter for the Genesis or the CD attachment so I asked about it and he brought up another box of cables and junk. He told me to look through it and see if it was in there, and then just said take it all, which I gladly did. The power adapters weren't in it  but I did find some stuff worth reselling.

IMG_0760.jpg

The above is the following:
- Onetouch Blood Sugar tester USB Cable + Software (Selling on eBay for ~$35 currently)
- Motorola DSL Modem (Virtually Brand New)
- 2WIRE Wireless Modem + Router (Virtually Brand New)
- Unopened bag of DSL Filters
- Compaq Laptop (bad motherboard) with Power adapter
- PSP UMD Spiderman 2 Movie, Pelican power brick, and Sampler UMD.

I figure I can resell all of the electronic gear here for a decent profit (including parting out the laptop as the hard drive a memory are fine in it.)

I was pretty happy getting this for free.

Overall, not a bad day. Still need to test the Genesis and the PSone, but I think they should be fine.

Today was a great day for me, After over a month of bad sales, the only thing that kept me going was seeing the kind of stuff you guys find and post here, makes me think, if they can find it I can too! Turns out its true.

Spent $32.50 total on everything.
Got these from 3 separate sales, 3 for each 3/DS game, and 2 for conker. The standalone game is Dawn of Sorrow.

Got these 4 games for $3 at a part of a community sale. I saw toys in the garage and teenaged kids so asked if they had any old games. Picked these out, probably should of gotten all of them, for all I know there was a rare obscure $400 game in the lot.

Got the bongos for $1 and pacman arcade stick for $0.50, at two separate sales.

Got an N64 with 9 games, all power cords, and 2 controllers for $20 They told me someone just bought a "big tub of video games" from them for $20 5 minutes before I got there.
Heres the bad games first

And now the good games

Console didn't work at first, I took a butterknife to the games and cleaned up the residue, rubbing alcohol didn't cut it. Then the games fired right up. Bongos go with the DK bongo game I had, so happy to have the pair now.

So, this was probably going to be my last yard sale if I didn't find anything. But after today, Ill be going for now on.

Nice stuff. You poor unfortunate . . . you almost escaped :)

There is this concept about drug addiction called "chasing the dragon" (from Chinese opium users).

When one gets their first high the euphoria is outstanding. The anticipation of the next high drives the user onward but it is difficult to reach the original peak. One can spend the rest of their life chasing the dragon and never getting back to the original--in fact the experience degrades but the addiction traps the user.

My point is the promise keeps driving us but the real finds are so rare.

Those dragons come more often than people think. I'd say about every 1 1/2 to 2 months one comes along, at least for me (not always game related).

As for me today I got a mini book self to put some games on for $3. Has water damage and wobbles. They told me the wobble was because of the uneven concrete that it was on, um no it's fucken crooked. But for $3 w/e.

Another 2 months? Oh god. I'll go on withdrawals. I got pretty lucky a few weeks ago and got two stand up dvd display cases for $1, hold about 48 games each. One is my waiting to sell, the other is waiting to play (Ill never get to all of them) lol

I've also done fairly well on random household things, really nice all chrome fan in perfect condition for $5, all glass decanters $1 each etc. My favorite thing has to be a table I found that has two lazy susans that detach, took one off and put my TV on it, yay for swivel! $10 for that one.

I did pass up a potential treasure trove of games yesterday. It sounded epic.
Garage sale, about 45 min away for me on freeway one way, with toll roads in between.

Advertised something like: Ps1, ps2, wii, gamecube, nes, snes, gameboy, xbox games consoles and accessories.. Who knows what they would of had.

Edit: I'm going to be looking for some consoles now so I can test all my games. Particularly cartridge consoles like nes/snes. What do people typically sell these for, about $20 with hookups / games?

Depends on the sale... I've found them for $50 at sales to $5 or less for the console + games. Recent finds for myself in the past 2 months have been an SNES w/ 2 games for $2, an SNES with 10 games for $15, an NES with 12 games (included rare Panic Restaurant) for $10, and an NES with 10 games (included rare Snow Brothers game) for $3.

It's all about the hunt, but I will say I started off the garage sale season with no Gamecube, SNES, NES, or Genesis. Now I have two of each except the Genesis, and I got it all for less than $100. The only console escaping my grasp atm is the elusive N64.

I need one a Dragon a week to keep my addiction fed :) And I do tend to get one nice score per week but its rarely videogame related--usually its books or DVDs and sometimes CDs.

This was a poor week (people scared of the heat?). The first pic is from 2 weeks ago (just before vacation--last weekend):

I paid $30 for the group. Working GBA SP (no charger) with Sonic 2, Zune (w/out cable), and PS2 slim (memory card, TV hookup, no controllers, half of power adapter). I got a $3 Zune cable and found out it is a 30 GB in nice shape but the battery holds a mediocre charge)--stilll looks like a nice flip.

This is from 6 different sales:

Mischief Makers .75, Blues Bros. $1--I only bought it because I've never seen it before--but its worth zilch :whistle2:(, Kingdom Hearts complete $1, Black Ops complete $10, Brick was $2 with Tetris, and I was surprised to find a sealed Halo Wars --paid $12 . . . after negotiation.

Saturday I only hit a handful of sales (did snag $200 worth of CDs for $15 at one) and found this:

no power adapter or games . . . marked $10. I did get the woman to throw in this:

Working Logitech PS2 wireless controller with adapter.

A Ti-89 and some nice textbooks ($250 worth) lifted my spirits but I sure hope that next week is better.

I cringe when I think back on cleaning out my mom's attic (in the late 90s). And I tossed out my Colecovision system box. I had put it up there when I got the system so it was mint with sytrofoam inside. I didn't even pause and now I wish I had it back.

I still remember throwing out all my boxes for my Super Nintendo and 64 games. Final Fantasy II, Harvest Moon, Zelda, etc. I was young and thought they were cool but took up too much space :wall:

This was my first weekend ever going yard sale hunting (well not ever, but since I was a kid tagging along with my mom) and I can't believe how lucky I got. Picked these all up yesterday. Can't wait to try again next Saturday!

First yard sale. It wasn't even one that was advertised. We just happened to drive by it.

$5.50 for everything:

IMG_1576.jpg

MK: Double Dash is complete. The iPod appears to be a 3rd Generation Nano 4 GB. It didn't have a charging cable so I'll have to get one to see if it works. And the Dragon statue thing is actually an incense burner, but we'll just use it as a display cause it looks cool.

Got these at a community sale.

$8 for everything. Vols. 1-10 of Chibi Vampire and 1-9 of Death Note. They're in near perfect condition. Looks like they were flipped through once:

IMG_1578.jpg

IMG_1582.jpg

And the best find of the day. We got to this yard sale about an hour after it started. I couldn't believe that this was left!

There was no price marked on this. I was almost afraid to ask the guy how much. He wanted $25 for it all :D Still have to hook it up and test it out but the system seems to be in excellent shape. Only downside is all the controllers are generic including the fight stick. Has the official 32 bit adapter though :applause: . And all of the games have their original boxes/cases and instructions. And honestly I had no idea what any of this was worth. I didn't realize some of the games were pretty valuable.

I've got a worse story for you; I tossed my boxes out over time (as I needed the space), with the very last one to go being an Earthbound box.

The one good thing about the experience is that with a cart & manual collection I didn't have reacquire much to shift over to UGCs. I'll still pick up CIBs if I come across them, but I don't have the itch where I have to have them (at a ridiculous mark-up, especially).

well I rarely hit up yard sales here (about 75% is clothes rest are old/pirated DVD and music rarely any games) but was on the way home and stopped at 4 sales and as usual all garbage just found 1 game Silent Scope 2: Dark Silhouette for the PS2. Got it for $0.50

I have the worst Earthbound story . . . ever.

I picked up a copy (big box with guide) sealed for $5.99 (clearance at Best Buy) and traded it in for $45 in credit at Funcoland. When I saw how nice a flip it was, I grabbed the last 2 on the shelf. I didn't get back to Funco for a week or two. In the meantime, the value dropped to $10 . . . but I was facing a move in a month or two and didn't want to hang onto them (this is early 1998 just before ebay). So, I took the $20 in credit. On top of it all, I always hated fuckoland and still abhor gameslop.

This just sits there in the deepest and darkest corner of my mind.

YES! I'm not the only one! Except for me it was Toys R Us I bought 8 of them from.

Well there is no way to know what will become valuable in the future I guess.

I see some of you post from near-ish where I am in PA (Nanticoke/Wilkes-Barre Area), any words of advice for where to find these besides craigslist? Like a specific newspaper that's good?
I could say the scumbags are the collector's who buy and hoard games for selfish reason.
You can't point the finger at a reseller if you are a collector.

Who cares about price, who is more selfish a reseller who provides a product for people or a collector who hoards games for themselves.

My point is both parties are equally selfish.
so by this logic, anyone who owns any video game at all is selfish and a hoarder? Last time I checked, nobody here is keeping multiple copies of the same game or system and stockpiling them in their closet just so no one else can have them. Or is there some pre-determined number of games that you've arbitrarily made up that is "okay" to own without considered being selfish?
Wanting something to keep for yourself is just as selfish as buying something with the sole intent to resell it.
Hey noob where in my post did I mention ownership of games? Doesn't matter anyways I have to ignore since you can't seem to read.

I own a car, or I could be a car collector. Two different types of person.

He's been here since 2008 and he doesn't know about the multiple games and systems. Hah

Post #1114 you said "Wanting something to keep for yourself is just as selfish as buying something with the sole intent to resell it." Sounds like he was right and now you're just arguing semantics. You really showed him calling him a noob though!

Everyone calm down, here is some gaming stuff...

Sonic comic 25 cents

Someone beat me to this sale and bought most of the good stuff. I knew Gallop Racer was a 'rare' game, so the person obviously didn't know as much about games.

Paid $12 everything pictured:

PS: The disc only game is Mario Sunshine. :bouncy:
Imagine if he played James Rhodes in Iron Man...
Ow. My mind.

Seriously, though, thanks to this triple digit nonsense, I've missed out on lots of garage sales. Hopefully it eases up this weekend.

Reselling or collecting have nothing to do with the type of person you are. Also an asking price doesn't always equal greed (say $30 is fair and a CAG bitches and complains to you for not selling that game to them for a dollar, who is trying to rip off who?)

Thanks for getting us back to business :)

Funny, my heart races when I see old Xbox games because of KOTOR, Conker and a few others but I hardly look at PS2 games. I never see RPGs and most everything else I have or is worthless. The Gallop Racer games are something to keep an eye out for.

I dunno, there are plenty of PS2 games in the 10-12 dollar range and many people are getting rid of them right now for 1-3 dollars. Also, I don't see a TON of RPGs but Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts are common. Kingdom Hearts if you can get it dirt cheap isn't a bad grab. I also have found the .hack games a few times too. You aren't going to make a ton, but $10 game for $2 is flippable.

I always look at PS2 games. I missed a lot of the ones from 2005-current, so it's a good time to beef up my collection on the cheap. I'll pay $5 for most any non sports game, no matter how bad it is.

Let's see if we can flesh out some the PS2 games that have value over the rest of the summer.

I have something to post. A few weeks ago (before I went on vacation) I picked up a Wii system at a sale. I really had no confidence in it working . . . so I forgot about it and left it in my car.

System (missing GC controller input door), power cable, and TV hookup (has a repair to one RCA plug).

They were asking $15 and I paid $12.

I wanted the power adapter. I would like to have a spare TV hookup, Power, and sensor . . . so I can move the Wii up or downstairs for my daughter. I had a TV hookup from before, I picked up the sensor bar for $1 earlier this summer. I figure a power adapter is worth about $5 . . . so I'd only be out $7 with the bad system.

Does anyone know anything about this tag on it?

I figure its related to a repair . . .

So, this morning I decided to test the Wii system . . . I hooked it up to my existing setup and explained to my daughter what I was doing. I asked her, "what are the odds it will work?" . . . we agreed that it was 50%. Then I said, "how likely is it that there is a game inside?" . . . we put this at 5%. Then I asked "how likely is it that the game inside is any good (or valuable)? . . . we decided it was a 1% shot.

Fired up fine. It was funny because we both saw that a disc was in the system (by the game image in the top right)

Looks like a good $20 flip for a disc-only copy.

When my daughter (10 years old) saw that it was Super Smash she high-fived me. :)

Perhaps that sticker would be a sticker a used game shop or pawn shop would put on their game systems. The person could have purchased the Wii on ebay if the sticker isn't from a local store.

You got me thinking that maybe its an inventory tag from a rental place. Anyone familiar with Rental Center markings?
