----------------------------------------------------------------------

FAQ

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
USPS Media Mail

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
Yes. If you’re worried about your package, definitely take advantage of these shipping options. You’ll just have to pay a little extra to ship your games. NOTE: There have been cases where the post office doesn’t allow adding these options on prepaid shipping labels, but try anyway or go to a different post office.

I don't trust Media Mail. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
43 Broad st. C403
Hudson, MA 01749

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit in 3 to 5 business days, however.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the trade-in deal?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however. On the other hand, older gen games, such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 10 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that it might still raise red flags. No one has reported attempting this so we do not know for sure. 2 to 3 copies of a game should be okay, but more than that is pushing it. Also, keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always edit or cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
Yes.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Does the ECA discount stack with the trade-in deal coupon?
Yes.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?
Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

LoL! I think they made a movie about this called Sex, Lies, and Wal-mart Tape.

OK, I'm done.

LOL this page is funny.

Anyways, I got my 50% off coupon yesterday. Used that plus the ECA discount to get COD:MW2 for $65 and then my $70 trade in credit covered it completely. Got the game plus release date delivery for $0.00 :) I wish I knew about this 50% off deal earlier cuz my brother is interested in DJ Hero. Ah well.

anyone have a good suggestion on the coupon?
not interested in MW prestige. not interested in any rockband stuff. not interested in a TE fighstick.

what else can i get. I only have a ps3. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

I have no interest in the garbage that is Call of Duty, nor do I want a fightstick, so I'm ordering a nice set of wireless headphones (Turtle Beach X4). They're designed for the 360, but the audio part will work just fine for the PS3.

I think the Tritton AX Pro will work with both the PS3 and 360, but literally half or more of the reviews for it on Amazon are people complaining that Amazon has the SKU messed up in their system and is shipping the cheaper version. I'd consider picking them up since I have both systems, but I don't want to deal with the RMA, getting the coupon restored, etc., if they ship the wrong item.

I've lost respect for you yoda,Call of Duty is amazing.Thats what I used my coupon on.I cant believe you wasted it on some headphones.

when i get my 50% off coupon, I'm gonna have to sell/trade it because i already have COD: MW 2 preordered & I am not interested in GH/Rock Band

I'm sure you're highly qualified to judge a game that hasn't come out yet. Still, you can just say you don't plan to get it without talking trash. Maturity: try it, it's good for you.

Anyway, Amazon gave me $157 in credit today! No coupon yet though... I plan to spend it on an Ion drum set.

Let's be honest here: if you've played one, you've played them all. Kinda like that garbage they call Halo. . .

I know you can't use the coupons and credit on Amazon's other sites, but does anyone know if it is somehow possible to get import games (JPN PS2)? Or to possibly request certain ones you want? Or through maybe a trusted marketplace seller, that allows the use of (at least) gift certificates?
I'm getting demon's souls deluxe edition, unless something else comes along in the next few weeks I rather get more(it's only 70$, not an amazing use of the coupon). I don't want any kind of game accessories/plastic stuff, and I already have a nice set of headphones(and don't need a mic), so that narrows me down to expensive games. The Batman: AA CE is 100 bucks(I think amazon has dropped it a few bucks each, and 10% more with eca if you have it) which would be good to use the coupon on if you want it. I can't wait for a hopefully good batman game, but it really doesn't seem like something I want to buy on release day.

hmm... thanks for all the replies to my question guys I appreciate it.

i'll prlly settle for the hardened edition yea only 40 off. Hopefully they have an assassin's creed CE that would be a pickup for me. Would you guys use it on the tekken 6 bundle?

if the stick was good I'd consider it. Mine is pretty old and could use a second one a anyways.

This. The UK is getting a sweet Black Edition and I'm crossing my fingers they bring it stateside before the coupon expires.

It's $20 to join my fan club and there's a 20 day waiting period. I'll drop you an autograph in the mail, though.

Not as good as it was a week ago with the B2G1, but now
GS after Edge (without tax) -> AMZ TIV
Ski Doo PS3 3.59->3.25 (was 5.00 but went down)
Ski Doo 360 8.09->6.50

On your page, is the goldbox only the deal of the day and the lightning deals or does it include the Best Deals & Quick Picks thing below them?
My trade in was received but one of the games was returned. Everything I sent in was complete with box/manual, etc. This takes me under the $50 limit for the 50% off promo, so I'm basically getting screwed out of $20+ due to amazon's TIV's. Is there any way to dispute the issue with them and still get the 50% off coupon? This really sucks.
Same fucking thing happened to me. I called and lucky they helped me out.

Its just crazy how so many games are getting cracked which should send off smoke signals that its on there end. Has anyone received back a crack game case from them? If so how bad was the crack?
yay, i traded in metal gear solid portable ops two days ago for $10.50 and today it is $17. Awesome.
Well, its the trade in of the day, it'll go down after. You dont know what game will be their daily special. If anything, you could cancel your other trade in and redo the process, assuming your other titles held.

Finally decided to cash in my 50% off coupon on RB2 SE for Wii. Don't have a 360 or PS3, and figure for $70 of credit, why not? I've still got more then $130 amazon credit.

All these horror stories make me nervous about my two orders in progress. I will be livid if they dont go through. I may not use these guys again after this. These NorAm guys are way too shady.

6th day and still no coupon ;o

I'm curious as if the guy who bought $1600~ worth of Infamous actually went through with it

one more thing: I have $50 on one account and $70 on the other, could I transfer credit so it's all on one account?

Horror stories? I guess I need to keep up with this thread better. In any case, so far I've had no problems. All 3 of my trade-ins went through without hitches and I got my 50% off coupon, and as noted above, just used it. I'm going to try to find $60 worth of stuff for the current promo now.

EDIT: I'm hoping they start taking more DVDs (movies) as I've got a bunch I want to get rid of, but they only took a handful of mine the last time I tried (I mean, most of my DVDs aren't even listed.)

Hmm, can you buy gift cards with credit? If so, buy yourself some gift cards, then use the code in the other account. I don't know if that will work though.

You have to use an actual credit card to buy gift cards. There's no way of transferring credit from one account to another.
My cart only gba games got rejected!!! Wtf assholes!!!
They took mine no problem. Heck, they even took my cart-only Gameboy games. Did yours have stickers on them or anything that may have caused them to be rejected?

Nice job with the list. Hopefully assassins creed 2 black is announced and they have a cool uncharted 2 edition in the future. After getting MW2 with one account I don't know what to get with the other coupon.

i'll wait till the last day to see if AC2 CE pops up other wise i'll use it on MW2 regular edition lolll

MW2
60
ECA- 54
50%- 24
10 dollars back- 14 total credit and a 50% for mw2 i like and maybe a 3 price drop or something in the future

has anyone got AC2 or MW2 or Layton in their goldbox?

I have two 50% coupons and will also wait till the last day. On top of that i just submitted an order that will net me the $30 code.

Pretty sure one 50% code will be used on the 120gb drive since i only have a 20gb right now. The other 50% coupon purchase is still a mystery to me. I won't really have a lot of credit to play with since i'm going for a nice digital camera. I would go for MW2 hardened but i like playing FPS on PC. The $10 credit back is very nice. Its just strange that the PC and console games are priced the same.

I'm secretly hoping that a CE version for a yet to be dated Blizzard game gets announced by the end of august. We're supposed to get one of their big games this year! If not, then thats what my $30 coupon(s) will go towards ;)

Damnit, I'm torn between using the 50% off promo on either the Tekken 6 stick edition or the Batman CE...decisions, decisions :/

Out of curiosity, how long on average does it take for Amazon to get back to you whether or not they received and accepted your order? I noticed the address was somewhere in MA, and I'm in VA, so it shouldn't take too long to get there.
They took mine no problem. Heck, they even took my cart-only Gameboy games. Did yours have stickers on them or anything that may have caused them to be rejected?
Yup, they had their stickers. I even put them in a plastic baggie so they won't get lost amongst the packaging... guess I won't be getting my 50% off coupon

Just a heads-up that that 120GB hard drive's only $134.99 at Amazon.com (via the link you used). I just installed the new drive after transferring the contents of my old 20GB model myself (minus some corrupted files?). A quiet(er) 360 is a happy 360. :)

Does no one know the answer to this question? On your page, is the goldbox only the 'Deal of the Day' and the 'Lightning Deals' or does it include the 'Best Deals' & 'Quick Picks' thing below them?

He meant did they have price stickers stuck on them or anything like that on them that would've been cause for rejection.

alrite i'm probably asking this in the wrong place...but how exactly do you get things to appear in the goldbox? does amazon just put items their based on what you've been looking at? or buying?

Found the answer to my question, Goldbox includes all 4 of those listings. I wonder which one is where people usually "get" things into their goldbox though.

Don't know, but this will supposedly tell you how http://betterelevation.com/2009/02/10/the-gold-box-trick/

thanks that website helped alot, cleared out a couple hundred recommendations i didn't want at all!

another question now..if i put an item into my cart, but didn't purchase it, will it still show up in my goldbox? because i see alot of the recommendations came from items i did this with (tekken 6 bundle and 120gb xbox hard drive for example) and i would actually like it more if i could get those in the goldbox instead

as far as i know, if you put the item in your cart, it will not show up for a goldbox deal and neither would the things associated with it. i could be wrong though but those items never showed up in my goldbox
