condition stuff seemingly pulled back by amazon, spoilered until I can reorg
Notice 4/14/11: New shenanigans abound! There is now a condition field for all trades - all trades are set to "Good" and may be determined to be worse than that ("Acceptable") or better ("Like New"). During the trade-in confirmation process you may choose whether to have an item in worse condition returned to you or just processed at the lower value. It does appear that this might mean that NORAM will start taking games/consoles without original packaging / manuals / etc which might be beneficial to some.

We'll see how this works out! To be added to the core FAQ after its newness wears off.

GENERAL FAQ (Updated 12/10/09)

Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

My cover art (PLATINUM HITS) differs from the pic on amazon, will my trade be accepted?
It all depends on the UPC so just turn your game around, type in the upc into the amazon search box. If the game comes up, then it's accepted regardless of cover art. Click on that result to submit your trade.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began in 2009 and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available for free. There is now also an option to provide your own shipping.

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box? (updated 3/9/11)
Not necessarily - people have sent in multiple boxes for the same trade-in submission successfully. It's even possible to send half at one time and the other half at the end of the valid shipping period. However, it's probably best to always ship everything at once.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

(This is also an option when submitting your trades)

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week (7 days) to send your games. There have been reports of submitting trades up to 15 - 20 days late, but that is definitely ymmv. Send on time for the best chance at success!

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

I do not have the manual, accessories, original box, original included game, etc for a console or accessory I want to trade in. Will they accept it? (updated 3/9/11)
The current wisdom is "probably not" - it's pretty YMMV but NorAm seems stricter than they should be on this. Your chances seem to be better for them accepting a console or accessory without the box / manual / etc if it's older generation or rare. You're more than welcome to give it a shot though if you're feeling lucky - just pack it well and include as much as you can!

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted? (updated 3/9/11)
This is YMMV, but probably not. The UPC is all powerful within the walls of NorAm.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities. Once you submit, you can no longer change quantities on that trade-in batch.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in (updated 1/11/11)?
Maximum of 2 copies within 3 months period

I locked in X copies of a game but I now only have Y available to send. Can I just send in Y without being penalized? (updated 3/9/11)
Yes, you can always just send in a portion of your trade-in order and they'll just credit you for whatever they receive. However, the quantities you submitted for will stay locked in that instance (I think) so if you, for example, submitted for 2 copies and only sent 1, you may not be able to trade any more copies of that game for 3 months (see previous question).

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 2 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck (updated 3/9/11)!
Really? Hrm. While that may be true, they're often better than other comparable places. Your options of what to do with your used games are greater now than they've ever been, so feel free to shop your trades around or just sell them off on glyde/gamestaq/ebay/whatever.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

Can I edit a submitted trade?
Nope - once upon a time you could modify trade in quantities of submitted trades, but that ability has been removed.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?
Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

Strategy guides? I can trade in game/strategy guides? Whaaaaa?
Go to the Textbook Buyback section (http://www.amazon.com/Textbooks-Trad...ode=2205237011). You can either search on the title of a strategy guide you have to see if they'll accept it, or search for guides. The two best search strings to start with are 'prima guides' and 'bradygames'. Might try 'doublejump' if you want to trade in some of those. (Thanks eugaet)

I locked in some hilariously overvalued trade for some weird rare game/accessory/etc that I can pick up for cheap cheap cheap. They didn't accept it. What should I do? (updated 3/9/11)
The truth is that NORAM can reject things for any reason they see fit. While some people have managed to get silly things like a $200 credit for some cheerleading game, it's sooooooo YMMV that often it's not worth the effort. EXPECT REJECTION ON THINGS THAT ARE CLEARLY MISVALUED. That said, as long as you're willing to risk it, go for it!

trade-in promo related faq spoilered for history. promos no longer offered by amazon
---- TRADE-IN PROMO RELATED FAQ ---

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPARATED BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
Previous promo coupons and their expiration dates (NO ACTIVE PROMOS CURRENTLY):

1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (coupon exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (coupon exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (coupon exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (coupon exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Man, I got uncharted 2 in just before it tanked completely. Still waffling over whether or not to trade in Heavy Rain at 33. It dropped from 37.50 like the day I decided to trade it

The thing with Franklin and Bratz is they rarely have them with cover and instructions. Good luck with Franklin. I called 10+ Gs and none, NONE, had them with the case or instructions.

A bit strange that Amazon isn't accepting God of War III trade-ins yet. I'm not quite done with the game, but I will be in a couple of weeks and I'm curious what kind of TIV I'll get.

Few questions: Does Amazon take away the ability to print the shipping label the morning it hits the last day (I think io mentioned this a while back)?

Does Noram still return games that are not accepted (I know it says they still do in emails but says they do not on Amazon's site or vice versa)?

I noticed that for some games it will let me trade in more than 3 without the 3 month limit but others not (not trading in 3 of a game but rather trying to push back the day I have to trade them in) either that or once you cancel you can trade in more again. Not sure.

Yeah...what you can do is cut/paste the order number from your trade in page into the url of an order that is able to ship. Just go to the print label page of any trade in and paste the order number of the trade you need to ship.

Finally received my darksiders and mass effect 2. $31 and $40. Looks like prices tanked now.

now to put the credit on SSF4, SCC, RDR, and LP2.

dantes inferno ($42) and modern warfare 2 ($31) should be received soon as well.

I can confirm that if you cancel games you can reenter them without worrying about the limit of 3 entries. So if you need to extend the time to ship them out and keep the price you want...

Yea I know that from the OP but I'm wondering if the actua me being stupid, doesn't matter if it expires the day of since I can just do that  as long as it's postmarked at UPS on the last day I think.

Say you can't ship your item until Saturday, will UPS ship it out on Saturday and if not would USPS ship it out on Saturday if you just paid for the shipping yourself?

fuck

I checked the price for Dante's Inferno (PS3) on Friday and it was at $37. Forgot to lock in the trade before leaving work, and now its down to $25.

:censored::bomb:

How strict are they about the case's condition? Do they still ship back games not accepted based on condition?

Don't know if it's been asked, but apparently I added a game to my list of trade-ins that I didn't want to send, so now when they receive my next order it will be missing one of the games I said they were gonna receive. Will they still accept the games I sent at the value I locked in a few days ago, will they accept them at the current value or will they not accept them at all and just send them back?

Amazon just accepted a ds game I traded in without instructions and in a case with the GS print out cover art. It is the first time Amazon has done it while I've been trading in so yes but YMMV.

Man, I do wish there was new promotion coming up.

A couple Gamestop -> Amazon flips for today (these can all be made better if you're willing to use the 25OFF coupon to its fullest):
Call of Juarez: BIB used :360: x 3 = 40.80 + tax (total for me 44.44) -> 43.50 @ Amazon
Borderlands used :360: x 3 = 74.82 + tax (total for me around 81.00) -> 90.00 @ Amazon
Around last October, I believe.
Thanks, wasn't sure if I should wait around for a promo or lock these in and just do it now.

Ive been waiting for a trade in promo to come around. Sadly through out that wait time, the games i wanted to trade in have dropped in value instead.

Who knows when a new promo will pop up, if ever!

That seems pretty good but wouldn't you have to hope you don't get flagged as a reseller on GS.com and exchange them all possibly at 2 different GS to get copies Amazon would accept?

Making sure this hasn't changed since I last traded in.

I'm going to make a large trade-in but probably only actually send 3/4 of the games in. I forget, can I just cancel the extras after making the order or do I just send it missing a few?

I've always just crossed out the quantity of the game I didnt have on the shipping slip. I've never had a problem when doing that. If you edit the trade-in all of the game values will reset to the current trade-in price.

I shipped something out before missing like 2 items and it just took an extra day or two of processing(or atleast it was a coincidence this order took longer), wanted to double check though.

Hmm.

Ok so as I've read multiple times, and just again, if you edit a trade-in the values change to what they are currently. However, do people actually go through all the way to resubmit and see the changes? Does it only change if it drops?

I just edited a trade where I took off 2 games I wouldn't be sending in and the only changes in value were increases, 50 cents to one game and 1 dollar to another game(of which I'm trading 2 copies), so I would have gained 2.50. It showed the gain after updating the games I changed to 0 quantity, but then the initial amount on the last screen after resubmitting.

So for my experience, editing a trade-in where values would go up doesn't work. If I see something drop like 50 cents I might try that too just to see myself, but anyone that's gone on all the way to resubmitting recently and having it actually drop?

I thought we tested it long ago and the lower values stuck. I'd like to know because I had some jump up in value. Unfortunately, in each case there is something that also dropped in value to make up for it. I could cancel the higher ones and resubmit them though if the others wouldn't drop.

By the way, I noticed several mostly small changes, some up, some down. But there were a few notable drops: Transformers RotF PS3 $13->$11, and Bakugan Brawlers Wii $13->$11. That makes them both somewhat less appealing from the BBV sale. Note that you can still lock in both at Gazelle for $13 right now before they sync with Amazon's pricing!

I recall changing a game once and having the value go down on another game. I had to keep it because I could no longer add the game back to the order. So I went all the way through resubmitting. I remember this but it's just a memory not 100%.

I would not be surprised if they only keep changes for things that dropped so they can get you to keep your other games in the order (that may have dropped) with them without being able to increase value on the other games. Basically if it works in their favor then they probably do it that way since they adjusted it after we kept adjusting the orders in our favor. Edit: wrote this before I saw io's response, but it seems to fit what he said.

Thanks for mentioning bakugan, forgot to look that one up. It's showing back up to 12.25 on amazon, locking it in now and I should be able to get it from work still. Maybe I'll go during the day to finish all this crap. I have inventory tomorrow from 10pm to...well probably 6 am, it's going to be a bad night.

I could have been mistaken on that - I thought it dropped to $11 but I might have just had that Transformers price in my head. I know that dropped from $13 to $11 though. And Bakugan was $13 yesterday when I locked it in. I had passed a lot of those up on Tuesday because I assumed it was worthless. I checked so many other things with my iPhone but didn't bother with that one. Then someone somewhere mentioned it as a good flip to GS so I checked out the Amazon value - it was (and still is) better than a lot of the other stuff I was considering.

Damn, my local Blockbuster has a copy of F1 Championship Ed. (today's trade in of the day for $20) but it didn't have a manual. Ain't dem da shits!

I sent in my extra copy of pokemon heartgold and they returned it. On the website, they say "software only" and because it has a "not for sale" sign on the back, they returned it. Bunch of assholes. Why label it "software only", if you want the pokewalker and cardboard box and everything. As soon as it comes back, i'm resubmitting it and sending in the cardboard box, ds case, manual, and game. Thats it. I'm not sending in the pokewalker. Its useless to them anyway.

If you look on Amazon, their copies of Heartgold and Soulsilver are "software only." The regular is the one that comes with the figurine. I bet they will send it back again if you don't include the pokewalker as that is how the "software only" version is bundled. Good luck though.

The encouraging news is that they sent it back, although their site says it is materially damaged items that they don't send back. They did send me back games considered damaged even after it said that but that was like right after that text was noticed so they could've not implemented it yet at that time. I'd hate to send something, have it considered damage, and never get it back.

Just a quick heads up folks, a bunch of bumps back up today for titles that previously dropped including Borderlands :360: Saboteur (both), L4D2 :360:, Call of Juarez BIB :360:. Trade em if you got em. Several of these are good GS -> Amazon credit flips if you're so inclined.

I was praying for something like an iphone the whole time. I don't have a cell at all, a bill for something I never would need since I'm either at work, home or going to one or the other. I had to check our stock at bbv, later see the TiV's at amazon, lock in what I could remember or grabbed, then buy it when I went back to work and pick up any extras I forgot about. Did completely clean us out yesterday though. I doubt anything we have left has more than a 20-30% gain when traded now, lol.

Dragon Age: Origins with a big bump for both consoles to $30. It has been around the $20-21 range for a few weeks. Fortuitous as I was just about to send in a copy tomorrow.

For some reason though Amazon is only accepting trades on the PS3 version of Awakenings with no 360 listings.

This is so weird I traded in uncharted 2 and r&c cit. Both had a whole drill through the box uncharted 2 was accepted but other was return. Now I'm confused if they take it or not.

Quick question do i just buy a shipping envelope and just send in the game? I've never traded a game online so i have no idea how this stuff works. I'm thinking of trading in Dragon Age for a $30 gift card.

Edit i read the OP. I printed out the shipping label my only question now is do i buy a shipping envelope and about how much do they cost?

Ya just get a padded envelope. I like to use boxes for Amazon so I can be sure it doesn't get damaged because their site says they don't return damaged items while their email says they do. The cost for a padded envelope depends on where you buy it and how many, meaning it can be close to a dollar at some places for 1 envelope if we're talking B&M. I heard Staples is high price, Walmart lower (don't know if they sell individual), Walgreens okay price, Target is decent esp with sales. I would buy in bulk in the future, online if you can. I got 250 from Amazon for $33 shipped. Ebay is good too.

I get the feeling they only took it because it was Uncharted 2.

Thanks for letting me now. I 'll eventually buy in bulk to save some money for future trade ins. Thanks again J7.

Has anyone had an issue sending in a trade in after the ship deadline has passed? I had a trade in with a ship deadline on a Sunday and I gave it to UPS on Saturday, but with the weekend I'm pretty sure it won't get postmarked until Monday.

Will they disallow the trade in and ship it back?

Wow that's super lame. Accidentally clicked the cancel button, complete misclick, and it canceled a trade-in? There's no new window or pop-up to confirm? Still a positive trade but fuck I lost like 20$ in credit for those 3 games now.
Has anyone had an issue sending in a trade in after the ship deadline has passed? I had a trade in with a ship deadline on a Sunday and I gave it to UPS on Saturday, but with the weekend I'm pretty sure it won't get postmarked until Monday.

UPS should have postmarked it when you dropped it off. They even offered to give me a receipt if I wanted one.

I've done that once unfortunately. Lost $25 and the current promo back when they were giving bonuses.

I've done exactly this a couple times with no issues. I bet you'll be just fine.

For whatever it is you could also try Gazelle as they tend not to update their prices for a day or two after Amazon does. Plus you get 5% extra if you choose Amazon credit.

Have you guys ever sent in a scratched up game and had it accepted, how bad was it, and do you remember what game it was?
Thanks for letting me now. I 'll eventually buy in bulk to save some money for future trade ins. Thanks again J7.
