FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

That GTAIV flip doesnt exist. they have GTAIV instock but the regular version, the sale version ($15) is OOS and hasn't been since i've checked even when the sale started.

Thanks for the extra last gen flips. I have a few World series of poker near me. I need some fillers so that will be great if theyre complete. I dont even have to worry about the retarded coupon as with edge its still a + flip.

All I need to get to $60 is a kingdom hearts and a world series. I'll just get them with edge, a few bucks is worth it to get to $60.

thats the only coupon, besides the edge card. There usually never is anything else except for a b2g1 every once in a while. and i took off the gta: iv, totally forgot it was sold out.
Alright, so I've changed my mind on getting the Collectors Edition of Batman Arkum Asylum. I still plan to get the game, but don't need the extras as it will just add to the clutter that is already in my house.

So to the point of my post, what is something at the $100 price point, for the 360, that I could switch and use my 50% for?
nba 2k10 anniversary edition!! more clutter!
nba 2k10 anniversary edition!! more clutter!
Haha, I know right. I just want something thats worthwhile, but I don't want the clutter. I just want something that isn't bulky and doesn't take up much more space than a standard Xbox 360 game. If only this were half off a system......
waiting on coupon from a trade accepted on wednesday..how much longer should I wait before I contact them????
I got codes for trades received on Tuesday 2 days later as expected. However, it seems they have taken another one of their notorious breaks and have not sent out any since then. So it appears you were unfortunately right at the beginning of that period. I didn't realize it went back that far though. So has no one gotten anything since last Thursday (for trades accepted Tues or before)?

If that is the case, then, I wouldn't worry about it. They will all come in a huge mass mailing here in a day or two. The same thing happened about 2 weeks ago. This is why I was asking just a few posts ago about people getting them or not. It seems no one has since last Thursday.

They usually run on a 2-day schedule (codes come 2 days after trades are credited). But when they don't do that, they have sent them all out on a single day to get all caught up. Then they will go back to 2 days again till their next break. Once again, I am fairly certain there's a connection between these codes not being sent out and the ECA codes running out and not getting replenished right away. Whoever does this sort of thing at Amazon is probably on vacation or something ;).

dumb question, but i just printed out the UPS label, and it says "1 lbs" at the top. The package definitely weighs more than that. Is this normal? It shouldn't matter right?

Mine said the same thing and I was similarly worried - but I don't think it matters.

Mine is now in transit with pretty much no update since it left my local area on the 21st (I dropped it off on the 20th). Rescheduled delivery date is the 27th. Funny, but both the tracking (even though DC is not really supposed to be tracking) and delivery times were better on my last several media mail packages than with this UPS garbage ;). Only advantage is free tracking (instead of paying the 80 cents for DC) and a later possible dropoff time to make that day's shipment (6:30 vs 5:00). The latter may come in handy if I decide to get a couple more games from GS at the last minute to fill out one of my submitted trades from last week.

Since UPS is not a government owned service (private), they take Saturdays off. I guess that's the benefit of USPS Media Mail; the Post Office actually operates on Saturdays as well.

And I'm in a similar situation as you; I sent my package out on Friday, August 21.

Today's Trade-in doesn't suck. Do a little work to figure out the payoff instead of moaning.

$17 Trade-In.

Gamestop has it for $25 Used. $25 * 0.65 (35% off.) = $16

Cost x 4 : $64
Trade-In x 4 = $68 + $30 = $98

$64 = $98.

1.53x Ratio

But you cant get 25% off without buying Batman. Also after tax it sucks.

I say go for Kingdom hearts RE and devil summoner. Both are okay flips, even with just edge.

not worth the $65 charge on my CC to be honest. I even gave up on the ordering kingdom hearts online and just returning them if they weren't good ebough to trade to amazon. If I can get it in store and know what I am getting into I'm not gonna try to flip. I dont buy that many games to go though that on a regular basis.

Alright, so I'm sending in my first package today via UPS (never used UPS before) and the shipping label that printed out says that my package is "1 LBS". Should I be worried that my package is actually 22oz (1 lb, 6 oz)? I don't know if the 1 LBS is just a formality or if they'll actually return my package because it's overweight. TIA!

I wouldn't worry about it; my box weighed in at 3.8 lbs and it got through. Hope this helps.
How long after the games have been received do they issue a gift card?
Based on my DC's morning deliveries, it's normally next day sometime that I get the email stating the GC values were put into my account.

Yeah, in every case for me so far it has been same day as delivery or the next day. I did have one submission that didn't get credited for about 4 days - but in that case it showed "Processing" on my trade-in account page so if you think they got it but haven't credited it yet, look there to see if they are at least "prcoessing". I don't know what the problem was with that one except that because I couldn't edit the submission (it was the last day to ship) I sent it in with a few things missing so maybe they had to review that a little more carefully.

I wondered the same thing. No issues with any of my boxes being received.

From what I understand based on past experiences with UPS, if you bill to a shipping account and the package has an actual weight that varies from the stated weight on the label, all that will happen is the shipper's account may be subject to an additional charge to account for the discrepancy. So at worst any issues with the package weights should be transparent to end users.

Except that to buy 4 copies of Yoshi, you'd need to purchase 2 copies of Batman. The coupon does say 'Limit 3.'

I had the new Professor Layton and Gunpey for the DS both in my Gold Box quick picks and the ECA codes are BACK :whee:

So I got both for $1.57 of my trade-in credit after gold box + ECA + $30 coupon. I already have Gunpey, but for $1.57 I can deal with having a second copy ;).

Subtotal of Items: $37.15
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Gold Box Discount: -$1.86
Magazine Promotion: -$0.00
Promotion Applied: -$3.72
Promotion Applied: -$30.00
Credit Upon Ship: -$0.00
------
Total: $1.57
Gift Cards: -$1.57

Nice!
another dumb question, when using UPS option, do we have to use the "UPS shipping pouch"?

Can we just tape the label on the package like USPS?
Uh, I've never even heard of that. I just printed and cut out the UPS label just like I did with the USPS label and taped it on to one of the same small boxes I've been getting from Target for all my trade-ins.

So, I also have some game called "Resonance of Fate" for PS3 in my gold box quick picks. I'm intrigued but it looks like it doesn't even come out in Japan till next year so there's really no way of knowing if it will be any good or not. I could preorder it now and wait till the end of the year to hear more. Probably I should just to lock in the gold box discount + ECA (since while it's back now who knows how long it will last).
Probably I should just to lock in the gold box discount + ECA (since while it's back now who knows how long it will last).
And it'll give you an eca coupon for "break glass in case of emergency" to cancel and put it on something else if need be =P

Nice codes are back; too bad my gold box game is wasted on NSMB. Sigh, it's nice to see games in there once in a while, but I'm getting sick of Wii and DS games.

 Yeah, I forgot about that! I might as well do it I guess.

For a package they do know the weight on, it would be on the shipping label.

Since NorAm won't know shipping weights on packages that they receive, they always do it for 1lb and have UPS bill them for the right weight. USPS postage due isn't charged postage until the item is received and the correct postage charged the recipient.

Well, the Turtle Beach X41 Xbox 360 headset does qualify for the ECA discount. I got one in my cart for $179.99 ($20 off due to ECA). If I blow my 50% coupon on it, I assume it will take another $100 off making it $80. That's a great price given the retail cost, but I'm just not sure I need such a thing. But then I can't really think of what else to use it on either ;). Another thing I was considering is one of the Beatles Rock Band standalone guitars (which are $100 but I would think will be available much cheaper later). Or I could just use it on Demon's Souls LE (though that would just save me $35 and seems like a waste of the coupon).

Mmm.. I'm still debating between Tekken Bundle, DJ Hero Renegade, and maybe I have to look at this headset. Is this wireless? Maybe the wife will appreciate this for late night TV or gaming in the bedroom.

Thanks for the responses guys! Just sent out my package in a UPS Drop-Box after spending half an hour searching for the damn thing (Went in a HUGE circle just to realize it was 5 minutes away from my house). Dropped it in the box at 7:20 and even though that particular box picks up at 7:00, it said "Not Picked-Up" right next to it. That's a small, but really nice feature to have on the drop boxes. :)

With a house full of kids that was what I was thinking (late night gaming without making noise). It is wireless and this newer verson is supposed to be much better (RF vs IR like the older one so no line-of-sight required). It has a mic for use with the 360 which is nice as that makes it qualify as a gaming accessory and thus valid for use with both the ECA and 50% codes. But apparently you can use it as just normal headphones for DVD/Blu-Ray/MP3/PS3/Wii, whatever... It also does 7.1 surround sound ;).

Great flip I discovered

PS3 Wanted: Weapons of Faith $12.48-->$18.50

of course target clearence are YMMV

I picked up five copies

62.68 after Tax---->$122.50 AFTER $30 coupon (almost 2x profit)
but I also traded in Red faction Guerrila so I can get another $30 coupon

so $62.68 ($82.68 since I bought Red faction for $20)----174.50

Trade-in accepted Fri. morning, still no promo code. Hope it comes soon, want to preorder ODST before Amazon pulls their promotion (if they ever do).

I have the $99 Turtle Beach and they are great. All the improvements I read really quiet most of the issues I had with them. The only problem is that the headset is wired to the controller and the ones I have have the 1st gen dongle.

Has anyone done much with Gazelle, I know it's not the official Amazon trade-in program but they are affiliated with Amazon? I've got a big order of nearly $500 I'm getting ready to send in to them, hoping they are reliable. At least it's UPS so there should be some insurance as long as I have it all packaged really good. For anyone using Gazelle, I found a good 10% extra trade-in credit promo code "3gs". For those trade-ins that aren't worth the Amazon rate you can still make a profit. I cleaned up the Phoenix area with various clearances (TRU, Target, Kmart) to get my haul. Spent about $275, so it's a decent ratio.

If anyone decides to use the code, use me as a referral :) http://agc.gazelle.com/referral_code/matt_conve8276

Thanks for posting about the headsets everyone. I still have 2 50% off coupons to use and have nothing I want to buy. I do want a good pair of headphones for travel though. I just looked at the most expensive headset in the VG section and it seems quite suitable for my purposes if rather bulky for travel. Replaceable pads are a nice feature.

$406.96 - $203.48 (50% coupon) - $40.70 (ECA) = $162.78 is a hot deal though there is one on eBay right now for $199 (auction) and B&H sells it for $299.

http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-..._1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1251174455&sr=1-1

I'll have to spend some time reading all the reviews for the various available headsets. Any other suggestions? I don't play on Live so the mic is unimportant, I just want it to block/cancel outside noise, have good sound, and be comfortable. I also need a tiny amp for my mp3 player to drive any better quality headphones...
maybe we should have a gazelle topic set up, listing the current coupons and good flips?
If someone wants to be the OP, I have some good flips I could pass along...I'm just not interested in being the organizer.

Well, I picked up a Harvest Moon Tree of Tranquility tonight with just the Edge discount. I'll still come out pretty much even from that ($24.29 -> $24.25 to be exact!) though it could have been so much better with a decent coupon. That means I can fulfill a trade I made last week that needs to ship tomorrow. Unfortunately I have to include my personal copy of Civilization Revolution to do that but considering I already got 1000 cheezemint points out of it I don't really see myself playing it too much more anyway. Then I might still go for the Batman coupon to get a few more things to pair up with the Battlestations Midway I locked in at $17 in a later trade.

These $30 coupons are just too wonderful to pass up so I really feel like I should get 2 of the 3 orders I made last week fulfilled even though it means hassling with the Batman coupon. I can't make it out to the store where I got the Harvest Moon game again this week so I really wouldn't have been able to use the coupon on that anyway.

FWIW, Target was a complete bust today. Besides overflowing with PS3 GHWT bundles for $23 they had nothing else that was at the 75% off point. Lots of clearance games but all at $25+ so I didn't even bother checking prices at Amazon.

I have used a Biederdynamic at work. Its damn good.

But you are going to have a battle with amazon trying to get coupons to apply. They show up in the game section but are still categorized as electronics. The coupons will not automatically apply to these items. The Turtle Beach is the highest premium set you can get that will apply. Check the list of games/accessories to use this coupon on in the first post.
