FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

Well, I finally went ahead and ordered a PS3 slim with my $75 coupon. Just to be sure I applied the ECA code and it did not work. Then I applied a $30 code and it said nothing. When I put it in again it said it was redeemed. I assume it is just on my account then and I can use it on something else that qualifies? It is somewhat troubling that it didn't tell me it didn't work though. I suppose that is because unlike the 10% ECA code it would have worked on the PS3 but it automatically applied the better one instead.

(Edit - Decided to pull the trigger on that Resonance of Fate game in my gold box and it picked up both the ECA discount and $30 code I tried to apply to the Slim, so no problems there - now, I have no idea if I want this game but I guess I can see how the Japanese version fares later this year and cancel it if need be and reorder something else).

Anyway, I didn't want to risk them being temporarily out of the Slims come tomorrow when they supposedly start shipping them off. Not that I expect any great shortage of the things, but even if it is just for a week that would hose up my use of the $75 coupon on it.

So, anyway, I will soon have two PS3's . Then I will find the console warz even more ridiculous than I currently do since I'll have 4 of the 3 current gen consoles in my household. With all the deals you can get from CAG there really is no need to pick and choose. Of course one of the reasons I got this was so that my two boys could play Fat Princess (and other PS3 games) at the same time instead of fighting over the PS3 upstairs. So what are they doing right now? Playing SSX On Tour on the Gamecube #-o...

today's tiotd is a bad flip from gamestop especially considering the hoops you gotta go through to use the coupon, and the fact its lastgen. move along, nothing to see here.

Amazon Trade-In of the Day

I have two orders of exactly $60.00 each. Does Amazon take shipping cost out of the total value for each order? If so, I can add a couple more games if needed (don't really want to though). Thanks for any help.

nevermind... got my answer...

Just ordered Bordelands and MW2 with $30 coupons and ECA. I ordered one on each of my two accounts with credit. I still got $27 and $31 on the two accounts and plan on getting 2 more games, just not sure what/when. Probably Beatles Rock band and maybe GH5, if I can find out that RB2 instruments are guaranteed to work. Anyone got link that explains this?

I'll still try and find some flips for the $60 promo. I send my 50% off promo stuff on the day before the last day.

I am going to hold off for a bit and hope I get some good stuff in my goldbox. I've had crackdown 2 and halo reach the past 2 days but I dont want those.

whats up with gazelle. Every game I own I tried and they get awful TIVs. What are you guys trading that get better than amazon TIVs?

Any flips while were speaking about that?

I second this. Many games they don't even list (Motorstorm: Pacific Rift for example), the ones they do have horrible TIV. I checked to see what they'd give for my 20gb 360 out of morbid curiosity. $21.

they dont do well with popular games but its the games that you think are not worth anything that get value.. like infamous is $5 trade in :D but Smackdown vs Raw 2009 is $18.. there system is screwed.. they even have a game that is brand new $30 but trades into them for $25..

I traded in a bunch of games i bought on a whim because i had just bought my ps3 and was so excited to play some cheap games.. like the $10 best buy and bbv new game sale.. I basically broke even with nothing gained or lost. Especially if you factor in promo codes like "tweet" adds 5% boost and "3gs" which adds 10% boost.

heres what i sent in recently with values..
Playstation 3 Army of Two 11
Playstation 3 Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli 9
Playstation 3 Timeshift 10
Playstation 3 TNA Impact! 12
Playstation 3 Beijing Olympics 2008 14
Playstation 3 Hellboy: Science of Evil 10
Playstation 3 Tony Hawk's Proving Ground 11
Playstation 3 Disney's Bolt 9
Playstation 3 Overlord Raising Hell 16
Playstation 3 Blitz: The League II 7
Playstation 3 NBA Ballers: Chosen One 7
Xbox 360 Prince of Persia 15
Playstation 3 WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2009 18

:: cough :: cough ::

KMart clearance on Star Ocean (360) is $19.97, $25 base on Gazelle. If you get 15% extra through promos that's $28.75, 44% profit (excluding taxes).

Just got my code for the submission of 8/20.

I've been asking a lot of questions to Gazelle, so I'll pass along some of my findings:

Q: Is there a limit to the number of games/titles you can submit?
A: No, you can submit 100 of the same copy if you want.

Q: Can you send sealed games?
A: That would be great.

Q: How long is the offer good for/how long do I have to send my games?
A: 30 days from the offer date

Got my 2 codes too from last Thrusday received packages, they're all in 1 email, seperating by comma.

i put my gazelle code into my amazon gift card balance...is there a way for me to convert that into credit that I can trade to someone?

I cant find anything I want, so I see people looking for amazon credit...anyway to do this?

You could use it to order an amazon gift card

I received my email with the two codes in it for two orders that were accepted on Friday.

However, had I read the OP first :dunce:, I would have realized that the two codes are separated by commas. :wall: I didn't notice that until after I called Amazon and asked about only getting one code.

I wish they wouldn't do the comma separating the items, I wish it was just one line, one code, repeated for as many codes that we have to receive.
^It's sold by Target... is there any shipping?
Might still be able to to still find it in stores.
That confused me too Shrike. Kept wondering where my second code was.

---

When do the $30 coupons expire?
There should be an expiration code in the email. Assuming they're all the same, mine expires on 12/31/2009.

^I bought Peggle at the Target B&M for $ 4.98 (75% off) couple months ago, so I'm pretty sure it's gone by now.

Just fyi: for those who take advantage of the free Big Kahuna game, don't forget to remove it from your recommendation list. 1 of my account goldbox is all downloadable games. :(

I wish there was a way to stop getting Wii and PS3 games in my gold box. I don't own, nor do I plan to, either system. I wish they'd give me some worthwhile games.

At the risk of making steering this topic away from Amazon and toward Gazelle: Can those codes that up your trade-in value at Gazelle only be used once a piece, or can they be used every time you trade stuff into them?

i used "tweet" and it only let me use it once. assuming all codes work the same way, its once per account.

A bunch of stores in my area restocked on peggle.. atleast in my area, each store got four of them after the clearance had ran its course.. so they actually have shelf tags with 4.98 price in the cheaper game display area.., when i bought some of them, they all rang up out of the system but i just told the cashier 4.98.

So here's a little story:
I go to trade in 6 games to Amazon (total $62). I have to bring them to work to ship, as I don't have a printer at home. I accidentally put We Ski in the package instead of Super Princess Peach -- it was late and I had that game out for a specific reason, too. I counted the # rather than titles when I double checked.

So, I sent one of the wrong games. I call up, and Amazon's customer service provided little service. I said I'd just "trade-in" We Ski, and put Super Princess Peach in that package. Customer service said that'd be fine, and they'd put notation down.

They received both packages now, and rejected the Peach invoiced as We Ski and make no acknowledgment of the We Ski in the first 6-game shipment. Amazon customer service says the "third party" that gets the trades doesn't get notes, and is going to send those games back to me -- which takes 14 days. I can send them back again correctly, but I miss out on the $20 Peach promotion, and they don't know if I'll get the bonus $30.

Okay, I know I messed up, but I tried to make it right. They did zero to help. You're telling me those people can't put 6 and 1 together and figure out I said I'd send them 7 games, and did send them those 7 games? And there's no way to contact them to work this out?

That's the last time I do trade-ins via mail.

^Amazon csr usually gives you 1 time free pass. But again, IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT, so don't take it up their asses. Just be nice.

I guess I'm late to the party but I got my code for the trade accepted last week too. So if anyone didn't get one at this point from stuff accepted last week I'd now start to worry ;).

Meanwhile my slow-ass UPS shipment is still "In Transit" with no intermediate destinations shown. USPS DC beats that 9 times out of 10 IMO - at least there it usually gets scanned in Springfield, MA and I know it is close to delivery.

By the way, those looking to preorder Kingdom Hearts for the DS, I just found out (the hard way) that the $5 promo code (KINGDOM5) does not stack with the $30 promo. I guess the way it works at Amazon is only one $ off coupon is allowed at once. ECA stacks since it is a percentage off, but only one discount coupon applies. Thus you can't stack the $75 system and $30 promos (I tried on the Slim and it didn't work) and apparently not even the $5 KINGDOM5 and $30 promos.

What sucked is that I'd rather not waste a $30 code in that case, but I couldn't order KH without using it once I put it in. Luckily I had Golden Sun DS in my gold box quick picks as well so I preordered that to use the $30 code and then ordered KH without it. It still was only $23.89 after gold box + ECA + KINGDOM5. Considering that's less than one of the EO trades I made last week I can live with it ;).

^Yeah.. I just found out too that I can't combine any coupon or even ECA with the $ 55 credit that the csr gave me (1 time free pass for $ 25 Tales of Abyss (cracked disc - their mistake) + $ 30 promo)

And that $55 sticks to my account, and it always applied first; probably because it's the biggest $ off.

It's my wife lucky day, I preordered the new Nikon Lens 18 - 200mm for her using all the trade-in credit + $55 + cash. Then I preordered an Uncharted with my Goldbox + ECA + $30 promo.

Sent in a package last week via USPS Media Mail w/ DC. The USPS site shows the package was delivered on 8/22. Three days now and I still have not heard anything in regards to the trade-in.

Finally success! After days of toying with pre-orders and cancellations I was able to score The Last Guardian, Heavy Rain, and Star Wars The Clone Wars Season One on BD. All three were stored in my recommendations, did NOT have a browsing history (I cleared everything), and the pre-orders were Final Fantasy XIII, Assassin's Creed II, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition (all of which were rated 5-stars in my items owned).

Thanks to the advice given here, I was able to trick the system (opening the 'add to cart' link in new tabs) and grab all three with ECA for the games!

PS -- Now this is very odd, but maybe a hot tip for you guys. Unless there's some promotion for your first BD order I don't know about, I was sent a $5 Video On-Demand credit code for NBC shows after pre-ordering SWTCW. I'd never expect credit up front on something I could cancel, so you might want to try ordering and canceling for a free code!

In the interests of people wondering about the timing:

I mailed off my trades UPS on 8/13

Received notification that they accepted the trades and my account was credited $60.00 on 8/20

Received $30 coupon via email 8/25

Overall a good experience, very hassle free. Was crossing my fingers that all the trades would be accepted since I had exactly 60 dollars worth of stuff.

Well, dammit, I just sent in a submission via UPS using a box I bought at Target and when I got home I had THREE Amazon orders in my mail box all with perfect little small boxes that would have worked for the trade-ins. Oh well, free boxes for later submissions I guess

6 more days for the 50% code.. and CNET hasn't got any review on X41 yet... Do you guys have any review from reliable source?

And for the X4, is it ever discounted heavily?

i forgot to edit the number of games that im sent in. say, i had 1 kingdom hearts on my initial lock in for the trade. and today i just sent in 2 copies. will noram credit me the difference? my initial total was $54 before changing the quantities. so i really needed to but couldnt edit the order. so i just sent it in. what do you think will happen?

Tip for if you don't want to use a $30 code and want to use a different one - preorder a game - it doesn't matter what - which the $30 coupon will be applied to (and repeat if you've got multiple $30 coupons), then order what you really want with your other coupon, then cancel all the bogus pre-orders and you'll get all your coupons back.
^Amazon csr usually gives you 1 time free pass. But again, IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT, so don't take it up their asses. Just be nice.
It's my fault to a point, but you gotta imagine they'd plan for mistakes like that to happen -- not just mindlessly ship stuff back.
Let's say you and your friend Jim are in a restaurant, and you order a chicken sandwich and Jim orders a hamburger. The server brings the food, and gives you the burger and Jim the chicken. Do you:
A) Demand that they take the food back to the kitchen because the orders were wrong?
B) Just eat the wrong food, guessing you were destined to have a burger that meal?
C) Exchange plates, and eat the correct food you ordered?

Amazon did the equivalent of A.

And they didn't give me this free pass. After 5 minutes on hold, I was told both games are being returned to me -- despite me calling to warn them before the games even arrived.

EDIT: Got a response back via email, and they made things right. Confidence restored. Glad I didn't have to lose $30 to learn the lesson: Always triple-check your package so every game matches.

Hi:

I have read the thread but did not see this question asked.

I would like to trade let's say FEAR for the xbox 360 in. Amazon pictures the greatest hits version but I have the non greatest hits version.

Can I trade in my version and get credit?

thanks
Kevin

I did read the OP.

The OP talks about if you have the greatest hits version and the one pictured is not the greatest hits version.

I am asking the opposite. I have the non greatest hits version but the greatest hits version is pictured on amazon.

so does anyone have an opinion? Can I trade a non greatest hits title in when the greatest hits version is pictured?

Thanks
Kevin

I successfully traded in my non-greatest hits PSP Marvel Ultimate Alliance even though the greatest hits version is pictured on the trade-ins webpages. I hope this helps you.

Here's a question......I have a $30 promo code, but I want to buy a console. Can I trade someone for a $75 code that didn't plan on buying a console? Meaning, are the codes unique to your account or can they be traded?

What is BD? Do you mean GB as in Gold Box? Also can you explain the trick further. I currently have

Scribblenauts
Zelda Spirit tracks
uncharted 2
Metroid other M

all in my gold box so help with this trick would be appreciated.
