FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.
ohh boy no wonder they stoped the Trade of the day, its that muther fucken SD Effect
I hope you are joking.

The trade of the day for Smarty Pants... I have 3x Frys near me and there were 0 Smarty Pants for the Wii in stock before they hit 1.78... and havent been any long before that post. How many out of 35,000 views would you think actually could take part in that, given that one of the three areas that Frys is located didn't have any copies of it? Granted, this is the first time I've ever seen a "we've stopped taking these daily deals in for the day" message... but I doubt is was merely SD to blame... since many diff. stores had this game for 9.99 and 14.99

They could've locked in the trades without knowing there won't be any available. edit io basically implied this on the previous page.

Exactly what J7 said, locking in the trade.....

LOL. Thats why i used to keep saying not to lock-in trades with high quantities. I know for sure those guys at SD were locking 3 of them at a time (and probably making multiple accounts on top of it). The great thing is that they have this stupid saying of never calling the store ahead of time. They will waste the gas+time going out to a frys to only come out empty handed

Those frys deals are dumb though. I've seen quite a few wii games priced at low numbers like $.99 or $2.99 but they are never in stock anywhere. They do this all time.

Or you can screw all the SDers by locking in 3 TotD every single day as soon as it comes out. (Not on your main account of course.)

I'm also very displeased with NorAm for selling resealed games as new. That's fucked up. i trade these games used and don't want some poor sucker buying them as new.

Oh hi. Did i ever mention how much i love gazelle? Yes i have...ALOT

Hello XXX,
Here is an update about whats happened with the box you sent us.
What We've Checked Out

--------------------------------------------------
We've tested your Xbox 360 Saints Row 2, Xbox 360 Saints Row 2, Xbox 360 Saints Row 2, and Xbox 360 Saints Row 2 and everything checked out.

But it gets even better:

When our team checked out your Xbox 360 Saints Row 2, Xbox 360 Saints Row 2, and Xbox 360 Saints Row 2, they found they were better than we had expected, which means we're going to pay you more. We have increased the value of these items by $3.00.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

We should send you the payment for $59.00 in 3 to 5 days.
Oh hi. Did i ever mention how much i love gazelle? Yes i have...ALOT
hey japakneez, did you send those in under "perfect" condition? i sent out 4 copies of tales of vesperia brand new, and their currently "checking them out" (apparently it takes over a day to do this lol, maybe their going to beat the games to verify them). and i't would be pretty sweet if they gave me some extra credit for that :D
Oh hi. Did i ever mention how much i love gazelle? Yes i have...ALOT
Damn, try spreading out your trade ins into a few orders... don't kill the golden goose.

I don't think I've ever had Gamestop tell me they were gonna pay me more because my game was in such excellent condition.

Gazelle is great so... :whistle2:#

Wouldn't that screw us all?

I had a big shipment for Gazelle accepted today, $425, so I can vouch for them being rock solid so far. I've got another similar sized order to them that they will receive this week.
Wouldn't that screw us all?
Well, chances are you don't have 3 games of the day to trade in anyway.
At this point amazon has taken care of screwing us.
Well, it's really NorAm. I love Amazon. It's not exactly that they're screwing us. They're closing loopholes. It's just good business. But it doesn't mean we have to like it.

Small ($70) order being checked right now. I forgot about the holiday in accounting for how long it would take to get there, ..etc.., but they still have been smooth so far. They are on par with GS, but sometimes Amazon beats them.

Gazelle sent me messages reminding me to send my games in which was silly since I just got the box right before the holiday weekend. They really ought to have them by now though - I got no emails...

I'm laughing at your "small" order redjoey - my two submissions to gazelle as my initial test runs have been for $22 and $32 ;).

But I may have one or go out and get one. It's bad enough as it is with west coasters sometimes getting in and the value of the TDOD going down. Sorry west coast.

Back to a yawner of a DotD:

:ps3: WWE Legends of WrestleMania - $22

Now, if it was the 360 version that would be nice since I saw several of those at Target tonight for $14.98. Oh well...

See, living on the West Coast more often than not simply means we get to be disappointed earlier than the rest of you ;). The regular Amazon video game DotD is just as bad (Tiger Woods 10 for PS3 for $48).

Can anyone fill me in on when to expect another promo? I have a big bundle of games I'd like to send in, but don't know if I should wait or not.

No one here has any freaking idea - sorry ;).

Man, I can't tell you how badass that is. Grats on the increase. Still waiting on my shipment to them (sent them X360 Fallout 3 and X360 Pure).
Just got my last $30 code for the trade I had accepted last week. Was shipped on 8/31, arrived Wed, accepted Thurs, code the next Wednesday.
Was just about to post the same thing. That's my last $30 code - so sad...

Like I predicted earlier, it came just after the holiday break. I suspect Amazon has an actual person processing these things and the mysterious gaps in generating them are due to vacation or other duties this person also has. In that context, it totally makes sense we get them the next night after the Labor Day holiday.

Now I just need to figure out what to use these things on. I've gotten a lot of my long term purchases taken care of already. If they'd just give me Demon's Souls and FF XIII in my gold box quick picks I'd be set (though I still have a few more to use beyond those as well). I'm hoping DQ IX becomes available for preorder before the end of the year.

Yeah, not really small, but converse has $425 so....

I'm itching for that to deposit. I'm thinking about getting WET since it's $49.99 ($10 less than BB). I'll let the demo decide.

I've still got $30 credit left from my trade-ins, but I don;t know what to buy with it. I already have an increasing backlog, and there doesn't seem to be that many good games out I dont already own/ or have played.

I may just buy Sons of Anarchy Season 1 or That 70's Show Season 5.

I just added the following to FAQ... let me know if it's not correct.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 6 months period (This limit also include prior "Cancelled Submissions")

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
If you remove a game (by changing quantity to 0), the TIV for other game will stay. However, if you add quantity of a game, it will change the TIV.

I think it's a 3 months period. At least for me I'm allowed to trade in one game starting 12/1 again.

I had a different experience. When I removed a game from the order, it changed the TIV of the 2 other games in that order as well.

That happened to me too, with a DoTD. (Grand Slam Tennis.)

By the way, how does one put a CML link in their profile?

Mine stayed the same with Grand Slam tennis, (as I reported) but it's possible that this was one of the newer revisions after I tested it.

I was gonna trade in 3 copies of Conduit on Wii but missed the mail in date and canceled until I have more time to get to the post office.
Now it says "you have already traded in 3 copies of this title" even though I never actually mailed them in...will this message go away in a few days ??

Not for a reported 3 months from my experience. Canceled orders are the kiss of death for this one.

I have one order pending and I might see if I can get anything else together, but otherwise I am done with NorAm unless something good comes along again.

Yeah, I got to send my One Piece order in today (have till tomorrow actually).

This will be my last for a while most likely. Going with media mail this time for the speed over UPS ;).

Hopefully they will fix the cancelled trade-ins counting towards your totals though. I mean, if nothing else, sometimes I like to cancel one because I found a few more (different) games to add in and it would suck if that meant you couldn't then fulfill either order.

I should try submitting an order with Star Wars Lightsaber Duels though - would be interesting to see how many copies they think I've sent in. I did send in quite a few, but also had many other orders that I cancelled and rearranged so my total according to their fuzzy math will be sky-high .

Let me know all the issues and i'll send customer service an email. Maybe we can help them flesh out the bugs and let them know what we like and don't like

Can you cancel after printing the shipping label out?

Does this retroactively apply to orders made/canceled before they made these changes to the program, say for trades made in July/August?
Does this retroactively apply to orders made/canceled before they made these changes to the program, say for trades made in July/August?
It's definitely more like 3 months (or less) than 6 months. I took a game I trade oodles of in June and it's letting me trade it again. However, a game I traded 1 in July and canceled 1 in July will only let me trade 1 now. So yes, it appears to be retroactive back to July at least right now.

OK, I knew something was wrong with my Gazelle shipment.

Here's the DC on the priority mail package:

Your item was accepted at 11:55 AM on September 9, 2009 in ALLSTON, MA 02134. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

I have done a lot of mailing over the years and I have never seen a priority mail package go back to "Acceptance". That implies it was dropped back off at a post office to be mailed again. WTF!? What did tracking for your guys Gazelle packages look like?

Ok, wait, I have another I sent on my account (the one above was on my wife's account).

Your item was delivered at 1:15 PM on September 8, 2009 in ALLSTON, MA 02134.

OK, first of all - weren't these addressed to Boston? So what's this Allston business?

Also, I'm not too impressed with Gazelle if they got my package yesterday and have yet to acknowledge it. It still shows as not received on my account. What's the turnaround time from delivery to acceptance been for the rest of you? Even NorAm does better than this though.

My first Gazelle package was delivered and then accepted two days later. Then it took another week before they checked out the games. That was two days ago. Still waiting on the Amazon code.

My second, third and fourth packages were all much faster - delivered & accepted within 24 hours, then processed within another 48 hours.

Gazelle does a good job of sending update emails at every step of the process.

Just got off live chat (very quick and easy) and they said it should show as accepted tonight or tomorrow (the second one anyway). For whatever reason the PO is diddling around with the other one even though I sent it earlier.

no_exit - see, that's the thing though - I've gotten nothing from them except reminders telling me they haven't got my stuff yet. I don't mind if they process slowly, but an acceptance email when it is initially received would be nice. It has basically been two days since they got it now.

I guess we can give NorAm a little credit, though - I sent in at least 15-20 packages and in only 1 case did it take more than 1 day to get processed and receive my Amazon credit. I realize Gazelle is probably a much smaller operation though (and with less direct links to Amazon).

Yeah. I got my credit from two packages I sent to Gazelle within 4 days of them updating the status to received. Funny thing was that they got the second package two days after the first, and the second one went from received to passed inspection two days before the first one. That started to get me worried before the first one was finally passed.

Yes, it does take a while, but I'll take it with some of the values Gazelle was offering ($7 for RockRevolution while it went to $5 at EB, $25 for Overkill, etc).

I sent in two orders over $60 dollars on the same day and I only recieved one code today for the 30 promo...should I contact amazon about the other one or wait it out?

Gazelle sent me an email on Friday saying they hadn't received my package I mailed on Wednesday. Later they said they got it Monday night. I know no mail came in Sunday or Monday (Labor Day), so that is odd. Sounds like they are just slow to check in the mail.

They just updated one of my items in the package saying it checked out and the Gift Card should be in by 9/22!!?? They just emailed me saying to expect the gift card for the inspected item in 3-5 days. The other two items are still being inspected. Not the fastest turn around so far.

Can you cancel after printing the shipping label out? I need to know asap. Edit I was able to but I did it by going back in my browser, I don't know if you can another way, didn't risk it.

I printed a UPS label this morning and just checked to see if I could cancel. The cancel and edit button have been replaced with a Track Your Package button.
