FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

Quick Question guys

Does the $30 off promo stack with the $10 off a future game deal?
I have 2 $10 off future games (From GH 5 and Halo: ODST when it ships) and a $30 off plus some extra cash in my gift card balance and It would be enough to buy The Beatles: Rock Band, but I want to see if its possible first.

Thanks

Are there any Trade Deals for Amazon. Trade in certain games get Extra Credit.
I have 7 games in my List now for 134.50. Didnt hit submit yet as Im not sure what or if there are specials. Thanks

Ok, this really sucks and I don't recall there be anything like this before. I had gotten 8 copies of World Series of Poker PS2 and 1 copy of Disaster report, locked in for a $30 coupon trade-in. I edited my trade-in to just those game and then I got this message with regard to World Series of Poker PS2:

Sorry, this item has limited trade-in quantity
We have changed your trade-in quantity to the maximum allowable.

!!! What the? There was no mention that I can recall about there being a trade-in quantity limit. This sucks bigtime as not only does it kill my trade-in, but I'm stuck with 6 copies of world series of poker! The value has since dropped to $1 (from $7). I called Amazon customer support and they couldn't do anything for me. The lady said she couldn't change the quantities herself and all I could do is submit a second trade-in order. I told her the value had dropped way down, but she could/would do nothing. Very disappointing. :(

Does anyone know if Gamestop takes games back if you've removed the GS labels from them already? Unfortunately some of them may be too late to return.

EDIT: Actually the value is still $7, but when I try to submit a new trade-in (it was still a profit), it tells me I can't trade-in any more until December 3rd!

There are no trade in promos going on right now. The first post keeps everything up to date usually so check there if/when they ever add another promo.

Forget the first post. The goddamn TITLE of the thread says there's no promo.

RIF.
I was driving by there on the way to see Ponyo with the kids. . .
Lol, don't lie; you wanted to see it yourself as well! This one was just ok compared to their past work IMO.
. . .along with The Last Guardian for PS3.
NICE.

I'd like to publish a guide for quick picks since so many people ask about it and all the thesis' are a little lacking in depth from what I've read. Perhaps the OP would be interested in incorporating it into the FAQ or would this not be the best place to host it?

On a side note, I was able to manipulate Final Fantasy XIII Versus into my quick picks with ease this morning after having it on the not interested list. I'm now expecting Final Fantasy XIII tomorrow morning.

I locked in One Piece Unlimited Adventure for the Wii at $30 for 1 copy from a few days back. I was able to find more than 1 copy of this at my local GSs. I tried editing the quantity to more than 1. The TIV is at $14 per copy when I do this. Will I lose my high TIV ($30/copy) once I hit resubmit my trades? Thanks for your help. Any input would be greatly appreciated=)

I, also, tried changing the quantity to 5 just to test it out and a message pops up stating the following:

Sorry, this item has limited trade-in quantity
We have changed your trade-in quantity to the maximum allowable.

When did they start limiting the trade-in quantity?

Honestly, you can't get mad over that. You tried to trade them 8 copies of an old game no one would want on their hands; I'm not surprised they denied it

Woah, I can't comment on this myself as I've never tried, but this is awful news if they've changed how adjusting your quantity works. With no promo this month and a radical change like that, it's safe to say that Amazon trading is dead.

No changing quantities at the same value and limits on amount of trades and no promos, wow. This blows. Not too surprised though, they had loopholes and too many people used them.

hey, so I sent in 2 separate trade deals in the same box, each with their own print-out, etc. The one from the shipping label the dual-order had been sent under has been accepted and credited days ago, but the other one hasn't... should I be worried? :(

oh shiiiii, these changes must have all been done over the course of a day, because I locked in L4D on the 31st @ 23 and yesterday I was able to edit the quantity from 1 to 2 no prob.

Oh geez, you are lucky for being able to adjust your trade-in quantity and not lose the high TIV. I did call up Amazon and the Amazon representative contacted their trade-in team about my question. I'm just waiting for a response.

Geez, if this is the updated trade-in program from Amazon/NorAm, this really is horrible. My trade-in submission days might be over:cry:

Yikes.... so now there is:

*No trade in promo
*A limit of three copies per game
*Values adjust downward if you edit quantity

RIP, Amazon Trade-In...
Yes I can confirm that the TIV's change when you try to edit your order.

On the plus side, if you carefully back your way through the pages, you can get the original qty and price back in amazon's system.

fuck Now I have to run around town and find 8 copies of One Piece.
Can I edit a trade-in to subtract a copy without losing value? Or should I just send the package minus the game?
I think you're safe sending it in without, since they will just reject the missing game.

Hmmm, thats a good question. You could always send it to find out what happens and become part of the FAQ when 1) They accept it minus the game for the amount quoted or 2) They accept it for their current price since you did not fulfill the trade deal or 3) They reject you overall.

Alright guys, I've finished my Quick Picks FAQ but was wondering if it truly qualifies as a deal for these forums. Should I just post it under Video Game Deals anyways as a place for people to discuss their success and games that have been confirmed as eligible to show up? I see people asking in every thread what gold picks are, so I figured this would be the best place for it.

Also, is it true new accounts can't post new threads for a week? I was thinking of making a new account for multiple moderation purposes.

hm so if the TiVs update if you update quantity...can't we just set up trade ins with the maximum quantity (3 i guess), and send it in with missing games?

I appreciate the work you've done with the FAQ but I think it should go in here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=19

Yes, it does - and I just said so a few posts before you asked this!
So I actually got a game in my Quick Picks today. Scribblenauts. Not sure if I should get it or not.
Absolutely - if you do not buy that game I hereby revoke your CAG membership ;). I preordered it at GS to get the stupid hat but would have definitely jumped on it as an Amazon Gold Box quick pick for sure.
Yes I can confirm that the TIV's change when you try to edit your order.

Damn, well, at least I got a lot done during the promo. But without a promo, man, they are really gonna kill the program with these changes. Good luck NorAm/Amazon!

Jeez, people, don't you follow along?

I had a trade a while back (written about in detail here) where because I could no longer edit it (it was the last day for mailing) I just sent it with 3 games missing. It did take them longer to process (it was stuck in a "Processing" status on my trade-in page for 4 days after they got it) but eventually they did accept and credit the ones I sent and just said "not received" for the others. YMMV of course as they could always change the way they deal with that.

So I'm going to test out the ability to cancel a preorder and get back the $10 promo code. I want to use it on the Little King's Story lightning deal instead of on Last Guardian. But I still want to order Last Guardian (and it is still in my gold box from last night). We'll see how this all goes...

The hell!?

I cancelled Last Guardian, and tried to order Little King's Story which is the lightning deal.

I got this for the promo setup:

Items: $44.99
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Promotion Applied: -$4.50
Promotion Applied: -$30.00
Promotion Applied: -$10.00
Lightning Deal: -$0.49

So they are taking the $15 of lightning deal credit and decreasing it to just 49 cents and applying my $30 coupon instead. fuck that! I guess I'll redo Last Guardian. Bah...

Alright, I just ordered them together and got this:

Items: $104.98
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Gold Box Discount: -$3.00

I have $670 in TIV that's riding on this, so I've had to open a ticket with CS @ Amazon. I am hoping like heck they can resolve this one time only for me. Otherwise I stand to lose a ton.

Yeah, I can see how this would hammer some people if they were able to get a lot of L4D or something. I'm certainly glad as hell I didn't buy them new at Fry's for $25 only to get $20 each + a $30 promo code.

So, do we know this: if you edit the order and simply delete one item does it adjust the trade-in values for ALL the items? My only open order that I might still be able to fulfill is for one One Piece and one Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I don't need to delete either most likely, but it would be nice to know.

What this is going to mean it people making lots of different submissions - but then you can't do that with the game limits now in place either... :whistle2:k... Oh well, it just sucks all around.

Good luck converse!

Good luck converse!
Appreciated.

I had loaded up with the BBV B1G1 this weekend, and I always just have a quantity of 1 for each title, but some titles I had many more. I have high hopes for Amazon Customer Service.

I don't mind the restriction or change going forward, but this is the type of thing that it should be published somewhere, they should be up front about these things, not just spring it on you. They'll learn when their intake drops to minimal levels after this change.

To my surprise, if I cross-reference GC, GS, and Gazelle for the same $690 in games I have with NORAM, I could get $508 in cash/Amazon credit, so it'd be a loss but I'd still come out profitable.

Last edited by a moderator:
Perhaps the thing to do is always submit a quantity of 3 for each game, then just send in however many you end up with, up to three each. Hopefully they don't reject the whole tradein when you don't ship as many as you said.

Converse - keep in mind many of the BBV games are good for trading at Gamecrazy. I got $13.75 for Monsters vs Aliens DS, $15 for OneChanbara for the Wii, and got decent quotes off the iPhone app for many more games that I passed up because I was out of BBV credit. So you should at least have an outlet there. And if you don't have a GC store nearby Hollywood Video should give the same amounts (minus the MVP though - except my local store HWV does add that in for me).

But for the most part, the games were much better to trade at GC than Amazon anyway which is why I didn't even bother with any Amazon submissions (except for one via Gazelle).

Thanks for the tips on the GameCrazy flips. I think I can do alright even if Noram strikes me down.

Dammit, I'm ready to submit the FAQ and new accounts can't post new threads! :bomb:

Guess I'll just submit it with my own, but it would have been nice to allow multiple users to update the FAQ as needed.

EDIT: It's up; let me know what you think! (Yes I stole the format from this thread, but I like conformity)

Alright, so I took your advise IO. And am trying out Prime for a month. Thought I was going to use free 2 day, but its giving me free release day delivery, so I'm golden. Now just to figure out how to get it if I'm not out of the hospital with my daughter by then.

Edit: Now to decide what I will get with my $60.01 credit. Hopefully I can get another nice quick pick to use it and my $30 off coupon.

You can always do 2 orders with 3 submissions of the same game each, but they'll probably eventually cut down on that too and make it 2 submissions none in multiple orders or something.

There is also a limit of $250 per order now with NorAM. They limit the quantity of the same title to 3 max for at least three months, so you can't do multiple orders of the max (3). I even created a new account to see if the rules were any different and they are the same.

Has anyone been able to produce an Amazon.com gift card as output from trading in the program? Curious if they allow you to purchase gift cards, especially with the holiday's coming up soon.

Kind of related to the later part of that - I did think of an interesting situation to move credit around between amazon accounts, and move credit from promotional certificates to regular credit. This part was edited by me, if you want to know really badly, you can PM me.

I was thinking about that simply because I want to purchase a home theater receiver for all my newly acquired electronics (thanks Amazon, GS, and BB).

This may only be a one-time thing, but the new Professor Layton at one point was trading for $26. If you have the ECA discount, you could buy three copies at 26.99, use promotional certs, and submit a trade to NorAm for all three, potentially on your girlfriends/wife/etc's account.

I don't know how often opportunities like that pop up, but it could be a way to juggle around some credit, or move promo stuff to regular credit to apply to non-gaming items.
Don't say that out loud, they might see you :D Seriously, I'm getting paranoid that we have a mole on here watching, because every loophole we seem to find in the system is getting caught fairly quickly after it arises as a topic here.

I am 99% sure people from NorAm, at least, are reading this. I know 100% that they are reading the other thread on them selling re-sealed used games - trust me on that one ;). So it only makes sense they follow along here too.

As far as i know its always been a $250 limit per trade order. I remember seeing it a few weeks ago. Anyway, here are some QnA's that should cover everyone's new questions. I put fake answers for now, but it seems like its going this way. Can someone verify if my assumptions are correct? A 'test' trade submission should do it ;)

Q: What is the quantity limit per game title?
A: The current limit is 3 per game title including the Trade of the day (FAKE ANSWERS - someone please verify)

Q: Will the TIV change if I adjust a game's quantity after initial submission?
A: Yes. The TIV will adjust to the current TIV including Trade of the day (FAKE ANSWERS - someone please verify)

Q: If the TIV of a game increases, can I adjust quantities to get this increased TIV?
A: Yes. The TIV will adjust to the current TIV including Trade of the day (FAKE ANSWERS - someone please verify)

Q: If I only change one game's quantity, will it affect the TIV of all other games in my trade submission?

A: Yes. The TIV will adjust to the current TIV including Trade of the day (FAKE ANSWERS - someone please verify)

Bought a copy of "new" Advance Wars: Dual Strike from their ebay store and it was resealed.
What a shady company.

That's bullshit. You should file a complaint with ebay.

Where is this thread discussing NorAm selling used games as new.

Fair enough. :) To be honest though, I do only see this program going downhill. It is just going to be way too hard for them to compete with GS and stay profitable.

As much as I like to think most people hate GS, they don't. Its mostly just gamers on a gaming forum. Plus if you know how to wheel and deal with GS, unfortunately they are probably the best ones to trade with.

And as for these NorAm guys, it seems like they are purposely screwing with a certain percentage of their people - just enough to keep them above the threshold so they can keep going. Something with these guys seems VERY off when you consider their involvement with Amazon and ebay.

Another glitch with the new system updates that I am seeing is that it appears to count canceled orders towards your limit. So if you had a canceled order of 3 of the same title you can't even submit a valid order for that title.

Interesting. Let's see what happens when i try to trade in a game from one of my past trades: Left 4 Dead GOTY
You've already traded in 6 copies of this item. You will be eligible to submit more of this item after November 30, 2009.
