FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.
I cant even find the game on Wii at gamestop.com
try hitting that little red button at the bottom of the page that says, "show," for more success in finding it online. it'll show all, "backordered used products that may be available in stores." One Piece for Wii is one of those games...

Figures there isn't one within a 2 hour drive for me.

Good thing I'm driving across two states tonight, so I should have time to check GameStops/TRUs along the way.

I kind of wish there was a promotion going on, but this is still a good enough of a deal to transfer some credit over to Amazon.

Hey:

I have a question for the experts.

I sent in a total of 5 trades over the last 2 weeks. I sent them in a set of 3 and then I sent a set of 2 a week ago.

I received confirmation that my trades were accepted within 4 days of sending the first batch of 3 trades.

The second batch of trades I sent in only one has been received. I would assume that if I sent both boxes at once and they received the first one then the other one would be received around the same time.

Has anyone sent in a few trades at once and had some be received and the others not?

thanks for the help..

Kevin

I've done this before and had the same results. It helps to have delivery confirmation so you can put your mind to rest on where it is, but I usually tried to not get too stressed out about it unless it's been over 2 weeks since I shipped the packages. Media mail is slow, UPS has even been slower (imagine that), so patience is key.

People were talking about this a page or two back, so I thought I'd chime in: Last week I sent in three copies of Dirt on the PS3, and all three were almost-perfect discs and almost-perfect manuals inside of really crappy cases. All three cases had sticker crap all over them that I couldn't get off (and in some instances kind of mangled the case trying), and one had a broken spindle thing that holds the disc in place. Anyway, I got an email this morning that all three were accepted, so apparently they aren't too worried about the cases, anyway.

I don't know if this was a mistake or what but is shipping with UPS suppose to be ground? I'm kinda surprised that this is free, my trade-in got there the next day after I shipped it... O_O

Pretty sure ground is the lowest shipping service they offer

Picked up four copies of One Piece from my gamestops. Also sent in my last $30 promo with left 4 dead. Used copies at gamestop finally dropped in price to $27 today.

Amazon was so kind. After speaking with some CSRs on the 1st, they reviewed the case and let me use the 50% coupon today. I was surprised and incredibly pleased, as i've never dealt with CSRs who are actually helpful and polite about everything.
One Piece Wii is only $9.98 at TRU, if your TRU has it in stock.
UPC # of the game is 722674800044 and SKN # is 232354.

When I checked three different TRU's for it, they all said it was $5.00 not $9.98. All of them supposedly out of stock, though.

Look at your location, look at NorAm's location. There-in lies your answer ;). (NY -> MA I imagine is pretty fast shipping, even via Ground). For many of us UPS Ground is slower than the slowest service the USPS offers (media mail).

Wait, what is this? Shrike talking about flipping!?!?

As for me, I'll be checking out my closest GS tomorrow for the One Piece they supposedly have. When I say "closest" I mean a 20 mile round trip, so it isn't worth going there unless I'm out that way for other reasons.

Hopefully we get a good coupon this week - 20% off 360 would be nice so I can fulfill that last L4D promo trade! Though it will be hard because I'd have to run to probably multiple GS stores and get it mailed all on the same day (since the deadline was the 7th which is Labor Day and UPS won't be open Sat-Mon I suppose). Without a coupon I'll probably pass since I locked it in at $20 and not the $24 others have gotten. $72.87 -> $60 (with a $30 promo code) just isn't worth the hassle I'll have to go through of probably going to 3 or 4 stores to find 3 copies (and then getting them mailed the same day).

Oh wait, I may have done USPS on that one - not sure... In that case I'd have till Saturday to mail it which is nice.

The gohastings sale has them for ~$17 SHIPPED, so if you're willing to risk it you can buy them at GS, order what you need at GH, ship your trade, and pray that the order arrives within a week to return at GS. I'm sitting on this potential until I see what GS coupon hits tomorrow.

Otherwise, it's a great flip but still high-risk.
Didn't realize this Wii game was semi-valuable.
Yeah, pretty much anything that NorAm picks for the trade-in DotD is somewhat valuable, especially when they give over $20 for it.

Even doing a purchase of $19.50 after EDGE and taxes to make $30 on Amazon credit per copy, that's worth looking at as well. Even easier with credit versus money out of pocket, yes, but again, some of us don't have the same resources as other people. :D

No duh lol. It took 2 days from the day I sent my trade-in's to get my credit, now I have no reason to go to Gamestop unless they have some crazy bonus. :bouncy:

No dice finding a One Piece at TRU. Sigh, now to sit back and wait for the unhelpful GS coupon towards L4D that I know is coming. :\

You could always try your luck with the Jack in the Box Big Rip-Off game. You might get lucky and get a 50% off a used game.

I do have one, but I'd need six total so there's no point. And what do you know, the GS coupon is for PSP games.

Trade-in canceled.
Did you call them or go there, & which # do you tell them to look up?
I called the first one and gave them the UPC #. He looked it up, said it was $5, though they were out of it. He gave me the SKN # for it and I used that when calling the other two stores around here. Both of them didn't have it in-stock, as well.

As tempting as it is to make the runs out there and check myself, I don't have the time to do it today, so I made a few phone calls.

Io or others who order x41, the price is 191.99 today. I just sent an email to Amazon to get a little price adjustment since I just received it yesterday and the CSR approves it. :)

BOO PSP coupon... there might be a b2g1 at GS though because of the holiday but it still wouldn't be as great as the previous 25% off all used coupon...

Probably going to end up buying 2 l4d goty from best buy to flip with a halo 3 i have and get my last 30 coupon hopefully.

See, this is one thing I dislike about Amazon - the inconsistent customer service. I haven't even gotten mine yet (just shipped) and yet my email response was that their policy is that the price you paid when you bought it is the price you pay - no price adjustments under any circumstances (or something to that effect - I don't have the email in front of me).

Rat bastards...

Thanks. I'll try calling them tomorrow.

update on my previous tale
i waited until the day to send my package. unfortunately on that day, the print label and edit buttons were gone. my original quote of 4 games was $54, well short of the $60. i managed to get the label through the trick. but i still couldnt change the amount. i physically changed my label with a red sharpie and mailed 5 games in the best of hope.

for the benefit of everyone else here, i only locked in for one copy of games so that it won't trigger price drops on everyone else. i didnt count on that amazon would remove the edit feature.

earlier in the week, i got an email saying that they received and credited me for 4 games. fuck. there was no mention of the extra copy of motorstorm that i sent in. several emails later, amazon credited me with motorstorm.

i dont think its that inconsistent. they're really strict on the no adjustments. unless you get a nice rep. i would say ask nicely but dont expect anything. if you get an adjustment, just count yourself lucky.

man i would love to email CSR for price adjustment, but i already got a good deal on it with a free 50% off coupon that i shouldn't have gotten lol. I don't want to push my luck :bouncy:

you can always try contacting them again and asking again since most likely you will get a different rep. ive done that before and have gotten an approval. although it would be ymmv but doesnt hurt.

Does anyone know if the TIV of Fight Night Round 4 has been changing a lot because I might have to lock it in then. I'm talking about the PS3 version which is trading at 31.25 right now. Btw when do you think they'll come out with another promo?
Anyone who's had trades accepted since Wednesday receive the $30 promo yet? Obviously this only counts if you got it locked in before the deadline.
I sent my last one on Weds so it's still in transit. I'm in CA so I don't expect it to get there until Tues at the earliest.

So I was finalizing one of my last orders i was going to ship out next week and editing my trade in quantities...

I accidently changed the quantity of one of my games to 0 and didn't realize it until after I hit update.

Anyone have advice for talking to Amazon customer service and somehow fixing it?

I can't resubmit because it was my last $30 coupon transaction...

if you still have the page open, just hit the back button on your browser. that has worked for me before and resubmit.

I shipped mine out on a Friday with UPS. It got there Monday or Tuesday. Amazon already gave me my 30 dollar code. That was fast. I was expecting to wait the full 10 days that they said.

I'm still waiting on 3 $30 codes from friday last week. WTF!!

I also need help with trying to print out a page. I went to print it out today because I have to ship it out today and they took away the print option at 1:20 am? WTF!!!

Read the OP. I figured out how to do this WAY back and it is listed there. Basically you can look up the original submission in your browser history. Even if you can't find that exact one you can find another and then just substitute the submission ID at the end of the URL.

They seem to take away the editing/printing option exactly 7 days after your submission even if you still have the rest of that day to mail it out. Because they are always disappearing for me at different times and best I can figure is it must be timed from the exact minute you submitted it.

i sent out a trade in on friday, it was accepted on monday, and i got my coupon on thursday. so far all my experiences have been crazy fast (probably partially because i live in new jersey so it only takes 1-2 days to arrive).

now i also sent out a gazelle trade in on wednsday, and it is my first trade in to them... what's the usual time it takes for them? and also i'm guessing they email me a digital gift card that i then put into my amazon account? (i know i probably should have read that stuff on the site before sending my games out...but i forgot  )

Yeah, I don't know about Gazelle either and I just sent in a few things. What I know to do from now on is make sure I have enough for them to send the box. Not that I need the box so much (as they are just priority mail boxes I already have anyway) but because they go with priority mail in that case. When I locked one game in last week they only let me print a UPS label. Given the holiday that one is going to take 9 or 10 days. Meanwhile the priority box I sent in a few days ago is probably getting there tomorrow.

But I have no idea how long it takes them to process - I seem to remember others saying it was pretty quick though.

I had to cancel one of my last $30 promo orders (when Harry Potter OotP was DotD). Now I just have L4D to mail by, uh, Monday ;). Well, that wouldn't work anyway... However, it is $24.99 at Fry's this weekend. That means $75 cash to $60 in credit with the possibility of a $30 code (I say possibility because I'd probably have to mail it a day late). Yeah, probably not worth it. So I guess that is that for the $30 promo for me. I'm still waiting on one more code (trades accepted Weds I think).

I have One Piece locked in and now I remember why it is I thought I had to stop in the closest GS. I was driving by there on the way to see Ponyo with the kids and I though, nah, with the crappy coupon there was no reason to stop. I completely forgot about One Piece. Oh well, maybe it will still be there tomorrow.

And I just checked my gold box quick picks and have some old favorites (Class of Heroes for PSP and Black Sigil for DS) along with The Last Guardian for PS3. I seem to think I was waiting for that one so I might as well go ahead and order it. Though I don't really remember why I wanted it - will have to read up on it. I can then see if the $10 GH5 promo stacks with the $30 code. Man, I haven't ordered anything in a while - I hope the ECA codes are still being generated!

Edit - Oh, duh - that's the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus people game. Sold!

Edit #2 - Yes, the $10 GH5 promo and the $30 trade-in promo do stack. I also had $1.11 left over from a previous $30 promo code use (though I'm not sure how). That did not stick when I added another $30 promo - hopefully it carries over to the next order. So I'm pretty much committing to this game if I use both of those codes... I'm not sure I want to do that... Meh, I wish there was a way to save the $10 code for something else.

So, this is quite a mess of "promos" here:

Subtotal of Items: $59.99
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Gold Box Discount: -$3.00
Pre-order Guarantee: -$0.00
Promotion Applied: -$6.00
Promotion Applied: -$0.26
Promotion Applied: -$0.85
Promotion Applied: -$28.89
Promotion Applied: -$10.00
------
Total: $10.99
Gift Cards: -$10.99

But at least it reveals how any extra from $30 code uses is handled. Apparently it took two leftover bits from previous orders ($0.26 and $0.85), where I didn't quite have totals of $30, and used those first. Then it only took $28.89 of my newly-applied code. So next order I should have a $1.11 credit left to apply. Clearly they have it set up not to allow more than $30 of redemption on one order under this promo but they do keep track of all the bits you don't end up using which is nice. I think we all figured those extra bits were just lost. It isn't much but after making several DS game orders with a little left over each time it starts to add up. Also, I can stop worrying about finding filler crap on the $24-$25 orders as I should be able to use that credit later anyway.

man I got those rock band cymbals in my gold box and I had to bite. Wasted $30 in credit on those bitches, but with beatles RB coming I thought ehh why not.

I hope borderlands goes in my gold box. The only 2 games I actually want are borderlands and MW2 really and I got those covered and then some with credit.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Got it printed.

One last thing, can i submit multiple trade ins with 1 shipment. I have to send 9 games (3 seperate orders) tomorrow and I would rather just send one box.
