FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

$41 in cash ($43-$2 fee) for Gamestaq versus $37.50 in Amazon trade credit. The time to process each transaction is probably equal, but you don't have to give up your credit card number to Amazon.
I have L4D locked in at $20 for my last $30 promo trade. I can't see any way to fulfill that (don't want to pay the $24 each at Best Buy as that's only a very slight gain after factoring in the $30 coupon and I like to make sure I at least break even on the original trade-in value).
Ditto, it becomes a high-risk investment since you're counting on them being accepted in order to turn a profit. Also, there's no returning them to BB if one is not taken since it will be opened. If you're looking at turning six, like we are, then the ~$36 ROI is relatively small as well.

I'm hopeful that GS wakes up and actually drops the price on their used copies. Otherwise my trade will end up in the canceled graveyard.

EDIT: Blah. Well, it will take a miracle coupon to salvage this one. :\

Their coupons have been pretty garbage.. except this week's. :D

I hope Amazon does a $75 off consoles or something again (which I doubt). I'd totally be trading in and picking up a 360 then.

I never get it.. why giving out credit card number becomes an issue nowadays? We (US) have the best cc fraud coverage.. and it's so easy to dispute and win in our favor. :)

And cash (through Paypal) is always better than any credit... By the way, Gamestaq pay you first then you can send in your games.
Thanks. I may send it in if I have plenty of extra just in case. Best Buy is offering a lot less for the collector's edition, so I would rather just sent it to Amazon.

I came up with another question as well. I know that the games need to be in good shape, with the manual and everything. All my gamers are in perfect shape, only having been played once and all the original papers are with them, however, I was going to trade out a few of my cases that are damaged from some of the good ones that are on the games I'm trading, will they deduct some of the value from the game for this?

Thanks again!
I wouldn't send damaged cases, they can be very picky about the condition of the stuff (since they go back and sell trade in as 'new'). They're more likely to let a game with a little bit-moderate amount of scratches be accepted than they are for one that has a damaged case.

CC #'s are being leaked by companies crapass security all the time, leading to identity theft and real headaches.

Just received the X41 at the office.. it's a pretty crappy packaging for a $200 headphones. Will try it out once I got home.

My Batman finally arrived today (lol@FSSS) and it was in a damn shipping envelope with no padding. They're lucky it wasn't damaged or I'd be raising hell. Whatever happened to the uber packing jobs they used to do for games? I remember them coming shrink-wrapped to a cardboard insert inside a sturdy Amazon box before.

They must have seen I only paid $32 for the game, the jerks.

My batman CE was in a box, super snug around the plastic CE box. Then it was put in diagonally into a big square amazon box. Thing was enormous.

Got a refund on my release day delivery since it is coming today, not yesterday. I was surprised I got the refund since their rules clearly state that delays caused not caused by amazon dont count. Aww well, free day after release delivery.

I am want to do a L4D flip but not at a 1:1 one. I locked it in on the 31st for $25.

I'm a bit irritated since a few trade-ins I created on the 26th August were supposed to be mailed by the end of today, September 2nd. I went to my account to print the label today and it says "Expired!" Apparently I missed the memo that says by the end of today does NOT mean by the end of today.

Anyway, infuriated. Hopefully Amazon can fix this for me so I still get my extra $30 coupons on both...

Thanks. I will probably send the ones I don't need and get enough for the bonus offer and then trade the rest in somewhere else, even if it is a little less, I'd rather have the cases. From what I've read Amazon is very picky with their acceptance, so I don't want to take the risk on anything.

thanks again!

Good luck. I had the same thing happen to me yesterday, and I spent 30 minutes on the phone with "customer service" including the "manager" that i escalated to, and they just kept telling me that I had to resubmit the trades. I kept asking about the $30 credit that I would be missing out on, since the promo ended the night before. The "manager" (who I am convinced was just the guy in the cubicle next to the woman I was just speaking to), just kept saying over and over that I had to resubmit. I finally hung up on him and sent an email, hoping for better results. I also sent the same email in response to their "How did we do" email they sent me. I got a response stating that I did in fact need to resubmit, but that if my games were accepted they would still honor the $30 promo.

I was really frustrated, so I decided to come to CAG to check the OP to see if there were any tips on this subject and I found this:

"Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL."

Awesome! I was just notified by amazon that uncharted 2 is available for release date delivery now, and that my preorder of it has been upgraded to it for free (from 2-day shipping). Pretty cool considering the prime trial i used when i originally ordered it has since expired, and i still got the free upgrade.

I got the same e-mail, only they wanted the standard $6 extra to apply it. Nice try Amazon, I can wait. This is the real reason FSSS sucks; they purposefully make it painful to wait so you pay.

Pathetic.

OK so I managed to be able to print the labels. However, it's the end of day on the 2nd September, and the instructions say I have to have mailed it by today. Anyone had any trouble mailing their games a day late? I'm figuring it won't matter, but just making sure. :)

i just ran to the local post office late that night and used the APC machine paid for delivery confirmation it postmarks it for that day unless its past midnight and it got accepted no problem

Someone had them rejected once for supposedly being after the deadline but they in fact (or so they claimed, anyway) had sent them on time. I haven't heard of anyone else having trouble but then I'm not sure how many people send them in late either. I've sent plenty in on the last day with no problem. In this case the media mail option would be better because despite what everyone thinks they DO NOT postmark them. They might get an intermediate scan at the sorting facility but that is usually a day or two after you drop it off. So they really have no way of telling if you mailed it late or not. With the UPS option there is a scan when you drop it off - YMMV if they actually check that or not. If there is a problem, you could always say you dropped it off the day before but they must have mishandled it and sent it the next day instead.

Still, though, just as I've never had a "tracking" button on my order page, I've also never seen "Expired" on it - it always just says "The shipping deadline has passed". So people are getting different experiences which I find odd.

All this reminds me, though, that I need to check my UPS tracking because I should have had another order accepted today and I got nothing... (Edit: Yeah, it got delivered this afternoon, so hopefully they will acknowledge it tomorrow).

I've actually done a lot better at BBV than I thought I would. Between a bunch of games at my store and a couple at the other in town, 66$ into 105$. I'd kill for some kind of promotion on top of that, damn =/. Oh well, out of credit and I planned on buying Brutal Legend and Demon's souls next month from amazon anyway so that will pay those two off with my 30$ coupon and eca.

It was fully my intention to get stuff at BBV for Amazon, but after going I ended up with a few things for myself and a few that will probably go to Gamecrazy instead. Like you say, without the promo and being out of BBV credit, it really isn't worth the hassle to send too much to Amazon (though I may have a few to submit via Gazelle instead).

Thanks for the replies. I'll just send it UPS tomorrow, and if they screw me they screw me. That's the worst that can happen I guess.

Ironic. My second account on amazon, the one I don't even care about anymore for quick pick fixing, has halo odst but my regular has nothing. Too bad that isn't a game I want. Tomorrow's another day!

Lol, that's like a slap in the face.

Out of curiosity, what's "BBV"? Seen it a lot on this thread, and the last one, but haven't the faintest clue what it stands for. Thanks.

Whats the normal wait for trades to post upon arrival at their end? My UPS package arrived today (well yesterday). I've traded before, but with USPS and I didnt pay attention to the tracking with that, but UPS went super-fast for me. Shipped on Monday, arrived on Wednesday.

Same with me - except it was Halo Reach on the secondary account ;).

I've done over 20 trades so far and with one exception they were all credited the same day or the day after. So expect your credit some time Thursday. And I am in exactly the same situation as you - well, without the rapid delivery of course. I mailed mine UPS 8 days ago and it got there Wednesday. I'm expecting the credit tomorrow.

The one exception actually showed up on my trade-in page as "Processing" on the day they got it, so look there too to see if the status has changed. For whatever reason that one didn't credit till 4 days later.

Yea, I just checked that and it still says "not yet received". I imagine they got flooded at the end of the promo so they're busy. I'm not worried or anything like that, was just curious. I'd bet tomorrow (well today now). I kinda liked USPS because it was more out of sight/out of mind. This is my 5th trade with Amazon total, but the first time I've kept an eye on things, mainly because I don't trust UPS. So before, the credit would just appear, now Im waiting for it lol.

btw on your UPS package tracking, whats the name of the town it was delivered to?

Isn't it Hudson just like the USPS stuff? I don't want to type that damn number in again (because I don't get the tracking button for some reason).

Darn, just looked at my trade-in page and I have a submission that I need to send tomorrow but I think I'll have to let it slip by. It was my second-to-last $30 promo one (the other is 3 x L4D for $20 each). It was when Harry Potter OotP for Wii was the trade-in DotD but I don't think I'll be able to get any to take advantage of that $18 pricing. I had plenty of filler in there as well so I just needed two, probably.

Edit: My actual gold box quick picks aren't too bad, though nothing I specifically want: Steal Princess (for the 4th time I think), and a bunch of Wii games including some new ones to gold box for me: Trauma Team, FF Crystal Bearers, Fragile, Valhalla Knights. Some of those might be good purchases but I know absolutely nothing about them so I'll have to pass for now.

nvm, it says "delivered to: Hudson, MA"

This is what was throwing me off:

CHELMSFORD, MA US

But in the "Delivered to" line above tracking progress, it says Hudson, MA

Yeah, now that you mention it, mine said the same thing ;).

I sent out 6 Left 4 Dead games to amazon today via UPS. I also emailed CS to see if they will give me a further discount since the games dropped to $27.99 each. One thing to note is that amazon will enforce a 5 game limit on certain titles. I picked up my 6th Left 4 Dead game from Gamestop with a leftover coupon i've been meaning to use.

I've used UPS with amazon a couple times now....i like USPS better. But mostly because of the clerks at my local PO.
nice flip, says there one around a GS near me so going to pop in to see if its there tomorrow.
Yeah, there aren't a lot of them, but the closest GS to me has one so I might as well snag it. Well, the nice thing about no promo is that you don't have to worry about quantity or getting filler - just get what you can and send it ;).

In other news, I got a $30 promo credit via email just now for a trade that was accepted on the 1st - so back to the 2-day turnaround, not that it matters much any more. I have one more promo trade (received but not acknowledged) unless I can come up with 3 x L4D by Friday. I'll sure miss those late night promo code emails .

Found some clearanced Deodorant/Body Spray packs @ $4.24 each in Grand Rapids, MI. Bought all of my favorite scent but was hoping to find some shampoo since that's what I'm currently in need of for personal use.

[EDIT: please delete this post from here, wrong thread]

One of my local GS's shows as having One Piece. I wish there were a trade-in promo to make this better still, but I need to do a trade-in to GS anyway, so why not? Hopefully I can find a 99 cent new item to bump my trade-in up 20+10%. I need to pick up one or two more copies of World Series of Poker PS2 to finish out a locked in trade that will get the $30 bonus (World Series of Poker locked in at $7), but, alas, I already bought the 2 copies of that game that were at this particular store so I'm going to have to head to another one for that unless there happens to be one there that I missed the first time around.

Hey, I was just getting ready to go to bed and I got an email saying my trades were accepted! So, apparently, they got these yesterday and processed them first thing this morning (it was even pretty early on the East Coast when I got the email). So you probably already have your acknowledgement of receipt (and, more importantly, credit) as well.

So, this was my last trade under the $30 promo... Now I just have to wait for the promo code and that's it - kind of sad in a way.

So just to summarize I had a few issues very early on with some trade-ins (one was missing a manual and got rejected and another had some tiny tiny cracks in the inner plastic that I don't think were there when I sent it in). But since then I've done at least 20 submissions without a single problem - all processed as expected with no rejections. And most of them were $60-$64 or so to maximize the promo!

What's the deal with Prime shipping that takes way more then 2 days? I decided I'd just buy a copy of Left 4 Dead from amazon to fill out that trade, but even though it qualifies for prime and is listed as in-stock, the estimated delivery date is September 10th - what? Is that some new kind of math? As a result I can't go the lazy route. Actually I see that World Series of Poker is available too and it would be a much better option as it would make a profit for me (FYI, trade-in-value for it now is only $1, but I locked it in at $7), but it's shipped by a third party, fulfilled by amazon, and again while it says it qualifies for Prime, the estimated delivery date is September 8th, one day too late. Are other people seeing this issue with Prime shipping today?

I actually sold a complete copy of this for $45 just a few weeks ago
One Piece Wii is only $9.98 at TRU, if your TRU has it in stock.

Trying to trade in Batman ps3 but getting an error and it would only be my 2nd game to trade in.

Also the hint is more in line to "The Konami Code" instead of the actual answer.
