FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

so amazon's deal of the day is bolt for the wii for $6, and gazelle trade in is $7..not much of a profit...but if u add eca (especially stacked codes) and gazelle promo codes, it can be good enough to take advantage of.

Amazon's trade in Deal of the Day is Breath of Fire 3 (PSX) for $20. I'm thinking of trading in my copy, but it's disk only. Does anybody know how strict Amazon is with Playstation 1 games? I know you are supposed to send in full package, but I've also read that Nintendo 64 games and SNES games have been accepted as disk only.
I'm debating if I want to trade in games now or wait for the next trade-in deal. I have no desire for a $30 console coupon.
Assuming GameStop extends the 4/$20 3/$10 deal, I'd suggest that. I found it more profitable assuming you have PS3/Wii/Xbox 360 games to trade.

I have also found Toys R' Us' trade values to be higher than GameStop and Amazon.

What Gazelle promo codes? Isn't "tweet" only a one-time use code per account?
What Gazelle promo codes? Isn't "tweet" only a one-time use code per account?
yes all the promos (that i know of) are one time use and only one promo per order..but their are two other promos too, tweet09 and 3gs...if i remember right, tweet 09 is an extra $5, and 3gs is an extra 10%. i'm not positive if that's what they were

Previously on CAGs of our lives:
Gah, so my second e-mail comes back and they've compensated me $25 in lieu of the code being expired. Now, if the promotional department comes back with a 50% credit applied to the order, I'd say that is one hell of a deal! Still, I wish they'd consult me before just handing out credits because even though they don't owe me shit, I feel like I'm just being paid to fuck off rather than just apply the code.
So I e-mailed them once again requesting that they apply the code to my order, but this time I simply told them I was unable to apply it. I figured less details, more action words. I got the exact same response, but they mislead me by saying that another $25 credit had been applied when they were referring to the original credit. So basically I'm spinning my wheels here and despite the fact that they could have credited me the correct amount, they're just going to keep shoving the $25 back in my face.

Order canceled.

I've had a problem with Amazon CS dating back to 3-4 weeks ago and every time I call I get the "call back in 2 days and it should be resolved" response. In terms of customer service, I have found that Amazon has very little with this trade-in program. Pray something doesn't go wrong, because if it does you are going to have a challenge to get it resolved.

what problem did you have with your trade in?

My month long saga with Amazon concluded today. I had 7 copies of GTA IV (360) that were all set to trade-in for $17 each before they made the system change. When I went to print out the slip it canceled my entire order. Today they agreed to give me a $49 promo credit ($7 x 7 as it's now $10 TIV). It was a total pain but I'm glad I didn't get completely hung out to dry on it.

Oh amazon, why can't you just play nice all of the time.
151l1259.jpg

I also got my $30 console coupon today. Nice how they sent it out a day after the 360 mail-in rebate ended. Going to try and email customer service to see if they can apply it to my order from yesterday, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I had ordered 3 copies of Mario Super Sluggers from Gamefly when they were on sale in the hope of sending them to amazon, but unfortunately they didn't arrive in time. The package was suppose to go out today. Fortunately I can still trade them into Gamestop for a smaller profit, but not exactly what I wanted. I'm on the East coast, so YMMV depending on where you are. It was worth a shot. Well... if by chance the games came today and I shipped it out tomorrow (I already have the label printed), what has been people's experience with shipping a day late to amazon? Do they still accept them? If so I'll give it a shot. Of course, I may not get the games today anyway, but in case I do....

I received my $30 promotional code a couple hours after the 360 rebate expired... fired off an e-mail to customer service this morning, and received a reply within a couple hours that they had reduced the cost on my existing order by $30. I don't even think they invalidated the promotional code.

I have shipped out a set of games a couple days, ten days and 20+ days late.. they accepted them and this was with ups, so they could easily figure out when i shipped them if they just looked at the tracking.. i believe that you only have to get your games there before the automatic cancellation of your order which is a 25 day window from date you made the order.

Wait, what? You can get two $30 console discounts by sending in two batches of $60 priced trade-ins?
Wait, what? You can get two $30 console discounts by sending in two batches of $60 priced trade-ins?
no, I have five accounts available to use.. I made them when the last $75/50 console promo and 50% off any game accessory was happening.

A couple of questions. We are sure that the Console coupons won't stack right?

Also, has anyone else who sent in an incomplete trade-in (missing a game) received multiple emails confirming receipt by amazon of the trade in? I sent in 1 (instead of 2) professor laytons a few weeks ago and I have been getting emails every 3rd day telling me that my trade in was received and credited. I've only been credited once, but they keep telling me about it over and over. lol

since there's no official Gazelle thread, I'll ask here... anybody know any Gazelle bonus codes? I've already used the 5% 'tweet' and $5 'tweet09' codes - are there any others?

Can't answer the first one but the 2nd one: YES.

It's annoying they keep telling me they received my trade-in... maybe they are trying to make us send in the other game or something. Or its just an error in their system so they will spam us for eternity now because we didn't complete the order

That's uber good news. So I'll send my games off whenever they arrive. Thanks for the response!

There was g3s or whatever but I believe that expired...not entirely sure it just told me it was expired when I tried, which was different from the "you've already used this code" I got when I tried to reuse "tweet."

As far as I know those are the only bonus codes they have. If anyone else knows of another I'd also like to know.

I want to do a preorder and cancel to get Uncharted 2 in my goldbox. Is there anything I should know about doing it correctly, do I just preorder any game and how long should I wait before canceling the order?

I don't think we know for sure but the previous ones didn't stack so I wouldn't count on it.

And every third day? I've been getting a message every single day about my order being received (I sent 1 of 3 games in) for well over a week. It is highly annoying because I have 3 or 4 pending shipments in and I keep thinking it's going to be one of those and it never is. I don't see how you people got codes already. I sent one shipment in the day after the promo went live and they haven't even gotten it yet .

So I made my first amazon trade in order and dropped it in the ups drop box but I forgot to include that packing slip they print off. Am I boned?
So I made my first amazon trade in order and dropped it in the ups drop box but I forgot to include that packing slip they print off. Am I boned?
D'oh! That's a tough one. On the USPS labels they include the same bar code that is on the packing slip (so they could presumably use that to find your transaction).

They do have your address, though, on the box, so hopefully they can figure it out - especially if you only have one transaction. You may want to email NorAm though to warn them about it (Google them to get an email contact).

Mine was picked up from work by UPS yesterday evening and is out for delivery in MA today, awesome!

Took about 2 dozen pics of the 5 games including how they were packaged so let's see them try and pull a fast one on me 8)

Pre-order like 2-3 games, rate them five star after a few minutes, weed your recommendations to basically nothing, then wait for uncharted 2 to show up, cancel your fakes/order uncharted. Unless it would be something that comes out before you get the item you want, uncharted 2 in this case, of course.

My ups tracker shows a package delivered yesterday but it's still showing up as not received on amazon. Kind of annoying...

I got my $30 console code on Tuesday morning after my trade was accepted last Thursday. Was able to get CS to apply it to my 360 elite purchase so I could get in on the mail-in rebate.

Man, it's really too bad NorAm isn't on the West Coast. I just got an email that they received a game I mailed on the 28th of Sept via USPS. My UPS packages from a few days later are still in transit .

Haha, found another way to burn Amazon credit! They sell PSN codes now! Link

And for the Gazelle codes, I haven't found any others besides the 5% and the $5 ones. The 10% was also expired by the time I learned about it.

edit: Also found the thread on Amazon/PSN stuff here

I had an accepted order on Monday ($70), have yet to get my code but I'm patient. I traded in $160 worth and it was redeemed right before the deal started so CS knocked my MW2 console down $30. I traded in another $70 so if I get the code I'll try applying it to the order.

Thank you for replying, I will try it. I searched through the thread and found this for anyone else who may be wondering how to do the preorder trick in the future, http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6237887&postcount=1774
it looks like we can now trade in controllers, accessories, etc.. It looks like they should count toward the video game promos as well.
Nice. Now to try and get $11.50 for a sixaxis with a bum left trigger.

First trade took a total of two days

Tuesday - Shipped mid day from Princeton, NJ
Wednesday - Delivered
Thursday - Credit deposited early morning.

Helluva turnaround!

Does anyone know if they will apply trade-in credit to an order that was placed before you had trade-in credit? Case in point - Dead Space 360 is down to $18.49, $16.64 after ECA, but ships in 10-14 days. I have a trade-in I'm going to be sending out today and don't otherwise have any trade-in credit. Presuming that my trade is accepted and credited before Dead Space ships, will they then apply that new credit to the order even though I didn't have it when I placed the order?

EDIT: before you ask - I have a stored ECA discount code that still works - I realize that new codes are down for now

Amazon credits you for trade-ins in the form of a gift certificate - you can apply a GC balance to any existing order in the order status page.

Assuming your order does not ship out before your account is credited, you will be able to go to the order in your order history and at the bottom it should give you the option to apply your gift card balance.

Neato, thanks for the heads up. Looks like a small pile of easy credit is coming my way for a PS2 network adapter and some wired gamecube controllers.

Ok I have a question, if anyone knows the answer or can help me out I would appreciate it.

I want to get Fallout 3 GOTY edition. But I already own the collector's edition that came out last year. So I'm thinking I could just trade the game and not all the stuff that came with it.

Now on Amazon they list the regular 360 verision as $25.00 and the collector's as $10.50.

So when I send the game in and they scan it will it come up as the collector's? And if so will they take it without all the extras or just send it back?

This question also pertains to Gamestop and Toys R Us as well if I take it there what would happen.
