OK, I don't want to read this 22 page thread to find this out. Is your gamercard/score saved on your HD or XBL server or what? If I exchange my xbox will I lose all of this?
Gamercard/score/achievements are all stored on the XBL servers, along with all the marketplace content you may have bought. You can just download those again.

I live in Canada and I called xbox about two and a half weeks ago to get support and they told me they would send me a coffin for my 360. Yesterday I called them (the coffin was supposed to be here in 5 business days) and they told me the support guy on the phone checked the wrong option and I was actually supposed to send the 360 myself. So after paying $160 for repairs and thinking that all the shipping costs were included I had to go to the post office and spend another $20 to ship it. Bunch of B$ as far as I' concerned but the good thing is that they will just send me a brand new 360 and I don't have to wait too long. ( I should ahve it by next week)

So far:
I called 2 weeks ago Mon/tue., item shipped on monday next week, came on Wedn night, local UPS store closed untill monday, forgot to take it on monday, took it today. All because of GoW.

Damn it, my 360 froze while playing NBA 2k7 demo, where my TV screen was filled with green and brown stripes. I turned the 360 on two more times, and it froze at the Xbox 360 intro. Now, all I'm getting is three red lights. MS better fix my 360 for free, or I'm going to say fuck the 360 and buy a PS3. I thought Xbox was crap, giving me tons of problems, but 360 is much worse. Can MS do anything right?

fuck, died on me today. Was going to change the volumne with the HD/DVD, when it froze. When I restarted the machine, three red lights. fuck me. So I tried all the vodoo fixes and nothing. Happend to me on Sunday, but unplugged and worked fine. MS is shipping a coffin out soon.

Well I got mine back today. It's a refurb, manufactured 11-25-05 which is actually BEFORE the one I sent in, so hopefully it holds up. Played an hour or so of Gears and I didnt notice any problems, which is more than I can say for my previous console.

*sigh* my console just died manufactored july of this year and it did the 3 light thing. Shipping it back to MS to get the stupid thing fixed :(.

I wonder if any CAGs will end up receiving a previous CAGs 360 as their refurb? Everyone been keeping track of your serials? I'm guessing they'll still have the same one.

Mine finally died. I left it on for a few hours while I played Wii.. went to put THP8 in.. Open Tray. What? *closes tray.. reading.. open tray*

Won't read any games, CD's or DVD's.

Awesome.

How much is the repair fee outside of the 90 days? I'm less than 30 days outside of the 90 days.. damnit.

let me know how that goes, i'll pass it on to him.

here's his plan though...
he plans to wait till after christmas, then try to return it to walmart (he bought it thru a dell deal). in the mad dash to return, he thinks they'll just exchange it.

i told him i did'nt think that would work cause he's registered it with microsoft.

i also mentioned how that is fraud, but he does'nt care. he's is going to try it anyway. what do you guys think? is there a way that ms can find this out and charge him for a return unit? i don't think walmart scans unit upc's.

They can check serial numbers but I doubt they will. There's no way M$ would find out.

A better plan of action, one I might take tomorrow, is call and ask for an extended warranty. They don't know when I bought the system and they don't know that I'm outside of the 90 days, why could they refuse the sell to me? I'll do that, then call a few days later and get it switched. I'll just call and tell them I bought it a month ago and I want an extended warranty.

My 360's coffin supposedly shipped on Wednesday.

It lasted over 1 yr. WOOT Launch console.

But it finally kicked the bucket on tuesday but it worked until now. Now every single time i turn it off it gives those dreaded 3 red lights. Boy im glad i have FF III on my ds and my original xbox to keep me happy. O yea and the Cag forums. WOOT.

Yeah, I'm just assuming based on the date.

Also, just an FYI about Walmart. I was there the other night with a friend when he picked up a core, and they didn't check the serial, and there's no place on the receipt for. I don't know if the register didn't prompt the guy, or the cashier overrode it, but I don't see any reason he couldn't return a different console in that same box.

My 360 took a shit over the weekend. It was acting crazy for a while (no USB functionality and no Xbox live off and on) but on Saturday during the daily Monster's Inc. viewing with my daughter it completely crapped out. The disc started to stutter and then a bunch of red dots appeared sporadically all over the screen. I turned it off, waited about a minute and then tried to turn it back on only to get the red rings. I tried rebooting a few more times and got the same result. Good thing I had the coffin from about a week ago just sitting around. I shipped my console out for repair this morning. Now I wait.

Since you had already had the coffin, you are better off than most of us. The hardest part is over. Once I actually sent my units (2) in to be repaired, it took less than a week to receive a new one back.
What was the build date on yours?
I think it was late November/early December of last year. I can't remember exactly but I bought the console on the 23rd of December through kmart.com of all places and it arrived on the 27th. It definitely wasn't a launch console but it was close.

Hey, let me know if this works, I need a warranty on mine but I bought it like 7 months ago.

Mine died 2 weeks ago, and I ended up dropping it off at the UPS Store on Saturday, Nov. 25th. So it looks like I should hopefully be getting it back sometime this week.

Mine is finally coming back home on Thursday (12/7). It has been a long process it better work for more then 3 min. this time.

Got mine back today, as the UPS guy just left it outside in the cold, even though I was told by MS that I had to be there to sign for it. Manufacture date is August 2006, so I'm thinking I got a refurbished console. Oh well, now I can play my damn games.
Hey, let me know if this works, I need a warranty on mine but I bought it like 7 months ago.
It'll work. I know Xecutioner bought his on launch day and called and got a warranty mid-June.

what about when you call and they ask for your serial number doenst that tell them when it was sold?

that friend of mine that had his die; called, gave the serial number and they told him it was out of warraty. how would they know that? it was from dell, does dell pass back sales info to ms?

im guessing he cant do the call get a warraty thing since they knew it was already out of manufacturers warranty.

Can you buy an extended warranty on the refurb when it comes back? I want to extend the warranty for a few years at least, if possible. This is complete crap that we have to be doing this nowadays. My NES and Atari 5200 still work perfectly. I know there are a lot more moving parts and crap but still.

So I'm assuming that your extended warranty for your original will be valid for the refurb. Well, at least it better be. I asked about this over in the forums at xbox.com and people said the extended warranty does transfer over.

And based on the paperwork I received, MS should have done the transfer on their own. But I wouldn't put it over them to screw this up too and give you problems if the refurb dies.

I don't have an extended warranty though - I want to buy one now in case the refurb dies in a few months or whenever.

Well I just got a "new" 360 back in the mail. The manufacturing date is from March of this year so I doubt it's new but at least it works so far. The only beef I have with it is that the disc tray sticks when i try to open it. I have to give it a slight nudge for it to eject. It only does this when it's empty though, when a game is in it ejects fine. So I think I will buy an extended warranty and just keep it like this. If it ever shits out completely I can just send it back in.

My friend bought one from EB on Black Friday. It died on him this week. At least it's still within 14 days so he can exchange it without having to use his 1 year replacement plan (that was free/part of the sale).

I think he got something like a disc read error. Did he just get a bad machine or what? I was looking into buying one since the PS3 probably will be out of stock for a while but now I think I'm going to just stick with my PS2.

My launch day 360 died a few weeks ago (completely out of the blue), came back in about a week. No fuss, no muss.

My original system was manufactured in Oct 05, system I got back is from Dec 05. I wonder if I still get the 1 year warranty for 05 systems? Probably not. I'll have to look into buying the extended warranty before the current warranty period ends, I'm fairly sure you can buy the extended warranty at any point during your original warranty.

MS received my unit yesterday, about a total of one week from problem till they got it. Hope my it is back to me next week. With winter break coming up , want to play some 360.
How do you know MS got the unit? I sent mine in on Wednesday and haven't heard anything yet.
I received a form email from them. It says something to the effect of, "We got your console and hope to have it shipped back to you in one to two business days."

My story is pretty freakin rad!

I've had my 360 since January of this year. I think the 4th. It's been working 1,000,000%. Got a little cranky back in March when Oblivion came out, but I put it on a cooler area on my entertainment center.

So. Awesome time. November 19th, I buy a Wii and bring it home. I plug it in and notice the screen has a few little glitches in it. I just attribute that the fact that it's on some crappy composite connection. Later that night I turn on the 360 to play GOW a little bit. I get about three minutes into the game, and it locks up and throws some distortion. DAMN IT! I blew out the console with some air, pulled the HD off, unplugged the system, and finally get it to work right. Plays fine, so I'm alright, just thought it glitched.

Well. Fast forward to Black Friday and I sit down to play some Wii. Ten minutes into the Gerudo dungeon...

MY TELEVISION BREAKS. CAPUT.

That TV is now out of warranty, so it's pointless to try to replace. Now two weeks later, yesterday in fact, I got a brand new 42" DLP TV. So now I want to plug in my 360 and play for a while. So, I hook it up and start Gears of War. It LOOKS AMAZING and I start getting really excited that I'm now gaming on a 42" TV and it looks sweet. BLAMMO, three minutes later the 360 locks up. ARE YOU KIDDING ME, I think. I tried the routine I tried earlier and then the console flashes me THREE RED LIGHTS. I pretty much punched a hole in the universe. I didn't get the extended warranty, so I'm probably going to have to go buy a core system and swap drives. fuck.

Oh, I come home from work today and find out that my father spilled water on my PS2 while I was at work. fucking great.

So......now they tell me that I need to send in my HD with the console, even though I have proven that the HD is not the issue. My question to those who have sent in repairs, did you get your original HD back with all the info still there?

I called MS last night after I found out I couldn't use my paid content unless I was signed into live since they sent me different refurbished console. They said they would refund me my points to redownload the content and call me today with a code. The odd thing is that they told me a list of games that I boughtthey tried to screw me out of three games; bejeweled, bankshot and Zuma, 2800 marketplace points! After I asked them what about those three games the gave me the 3rd degree (that I must of dl them on a different profile) and after I got off the phone I checked my history and I did buy them on my profile.

If anyone is going to call to get marketplace points to redownload content make sure you make a list before calling them otherwise a painless experience but timely experience.

I would be weary about this, the first console MS sent me back had someones HDD on it, I thought it was a new/refurb they just stuck on for a freebie but it had offline game profile on it. I would of sent the guy a message to tell him I have his HDD and saves if he wanted it I would have done a HDD trade. But it was just an offline gamertag.

Make sure you delete your CC info if you send your HDD to MS.

Update: My friend returned his machine. As expected they tried to use his replacement warranty but I had warned him ahead of time that it should be considered an exchange.

He's out on vacation so I have the 360. I've been playing NFS: Carbon on it, the same game he was playing that screwed up his machine, and today I got the scratched/dirty disc error while playing. Fortunately the system still works.

Here's my situation. I purchased my 360 on 12/22/05 so, obviously it was manufactured before 1/1/06. Early on I had a few lock-ups while playing Perfect Dark Zero. This was easily fixed by placing a floor fan near the console while gaming. Time passed, life was good. Recently the console started locking-up again, even with the added cooling from the external fan. The strange thing is it seems to lock-up most often while playing PDZ or Viva Pinata. I haven't been able to complete a full hour in Viva Pinata without it crashing (good thing it autosaves every five minutes). Yet, I can play Gears of War for hours on end without a single hitch. Keep in mind this console has been babied since day one and probably has less than 150 hours total play time. Would it be possible for me to purchase the extended warranty from M$ since it's technically still under warranty? I'm very worried that it's only going to get worse from now on.
I sent in my 360 last Wednesday and still haven't heard from MS - is it time to panic?
I am feeling the same way, I know that UPS has delievered mine, but I have not received an e-mail from M$. Starting to panic a little.

Mine just died about an hour ago, they are sending me my coffin tomorrow, I guess its good that I got a Wii, that should hold me over through the holidays.
I am feeling the same way, I know that UPS has delievered mine, but I have not received an e-mail from M$. hmmm so this is an update on my console breaking.

I called them up today because they got my broken system on Friday. And now they gave me another UPS tracking number and it looks like it will deliver tomorrow WOOT.

Seeing that i sent it in 1 week ago this is great. So my experience if this repaired consol*at least thats what they told me* is great service on their end. Other than the fact that the computers were randomly shutting down at the CS center LOL. Gotta love microsoft OS's.

Anyways ill update if i get it tomorrow.

Time to relax, I called last night and my baby should be back to me by Friday. The little fucker better work this time.

Do you all pay for the repairs or do they offered you a free repair?
Because when I called microsoft they told me it will be $140 to repair.

I got mine in june and it was manufactured on 2/01/06.

It all depends. Do you have a warranty? Is your system less than 90 days old?

If you answered no to the above questions then you must pay.

If you have a warranty or if your system is new Go get it fixed because it is free.

Welp, got my 360 in January and didnt have any problems til after the fall update. Since the update its been freezing randomly. Just tried it again today with Gears of War and now i get the 3 rings of death. Tried disconnecting everything (including video/power cables). Nothing works.

Luckily i got the extended warranty @ Gamestop and its still good for another month and a half. I was just wondering what items i needed to bring in to gamestop in order to switch it out?
