Mine has frozen a number of times. I never got any overheating light sequences. It's frozen several times playing Vegas.
The terrorists in Vegas killed mine this morning. I had some problems with R6:V freezing and then checkerboarding, even after marathon Marvel:UA sessions with no problems just days before. Then I finally got the Rings. I didn't push for a coffin and now I regret it. I've already boxed it up and resigned myself to paying for shipping, so meh.
Until it happens to you, you think it only happens to other people. I had it well-ventilated (even with a desk fan nearby to cool it and my LCD monitor) and babied it. Bummer. Luckily I have a backlog of DS games to tide me over. The (former) residents of Boingburg NEED me right now.
UPDATE: Sent Xbox to McAllen, TX via USPS Priority Mail on 2/20 (thought I'd track the repair timeframe for reference)
UPDATE: Delivered on 2/23...exciting stuff, stay tuned
UPDATE: Called 3/2 because the online status still says "box shipped to customer"- it hasn't been touched by a technician and could still be in their mailbox, for all they know. If I didn't have the delivery confirmed by USPS, I bet they would have said they never got it. Yay. So much for "two business days".
UPDATE: Still nothing, so I called this morning (3/6). I gave the nice lady the tracking number and she verified they had it. Then she is going to send an e-mail to the repair center to see what's happening and try to expedite. I wanted to piss and moan, but what is she going to do? Sigh. It's probably best they still have my 360- otherwise I'd have to play Blitz: The League and I hate that game. I'll buy anything when it's $19.99.
UPDATE: Called again yesterday (3/9)- this time they double-for-reals-swore that it was in the repair center. 2 business days has turned into 2+ business weeks. This has been frustrating. On the plus side, I've had time to finish Rocket Slime and am now playing Phoenix Wright: AA.
UPDATE: Xbox.com support page finally says "no pending repair" on 3/12. I hope that means it's on its way.
FINAL UPDATE: ...aaaaand it's back (3/15). Well, a new/refurb one, anyway. New S/N, manufactured in October 2006 (can't remember when my broken one was made, though it was before 10/06). So, from "oh crap" to UPS delivery was 18 business days. That's slow. I think I'll fill out the survey they sent in the box and tell them so.
