So my 360 broke for the third time since launch (shock, I know). The drive just won't read anything, and it acts like there are no discs in the drive. So I call Xbox customer support and get cut off after going through the menus. I call again and of course I get the guy with the THICKEST indian accent on earth. I couldn't understand 70% of the shit he said. He then proceeds to act like I have no idea what I'm talking about, asking me to try numerous discs, and acting like there's no way it could possibly be doing that. On top of all that, after thirty minutes of telling him what the deal was, and assuring him that my discs weren't scratched and that they worked before (I told him this shit a minimum of 10 times) he was rude as hell, getting agitated because I couldn't understand him. Its bad enough that I have to get my support from someone who struggles to speak english, but the fact that he started acting rude because he doesn't know english is REALLY irritating. Douchebag.
I'm gonna send mine off today ... the coffin arrived yesterday afternoon around 4pm. I tried to arrange a pickup through the 800 # printed on the piece of paper that came with the coffin, but I was told that there was a $10 pickup charge to have a truck come out and pick up the coffin. Anyone had a similar issue like this??
There's apparently a fair amount of that happening... I found it easier to just take it to an Office Depot where they do UPS pick-up. There's gotta be a UPS store somewhere near you.
How long does it take for coffin to come. I called wednsday night and it is now teusday and still I have yet to recieve.
Took a full week and a day for mine to arrive... still waiting for the fixed system to come back after one week. Also waiting on my 2-year extended warranty card. It's been over a month on that.

Oh yeah, I remember reading something about MS extending warranties if it's sent into repair. Does that only apply to extended warranties? Thanks.

Huh. I haven't gotten any e-mail even though the UPS tracker says it was picked up by "Mitch Jones" down in Texas last week.

I have been having E74 errors on and off again for the last two weeks so I called today and he said its best to send it in. But of course once I got off the phone it turned on no problems....that being said if i get the coffin next week and it is still working should i send it or just keep the coffin for the next break down?

I posted this in another topic, but it's probably more appropriate here.

Has anyone had a situation where when the game starts playing, it sounds like an airplane taking off (normal), but when I stop playing games, it sounds like an airplane landing (skidding sounds, then a quick, louder 'stop' sound; disc is undamaged btw)? Also, when I open the disc tray after 'landing', it's almost as if the disc was displaced a little bit. Games play fine and the discs don't get scratched at all. It's quite strange.

I'm wondering if this is a sign I'll be sending in my 360 soon; it's always been loud when playing games, but this 'airplane landing' sound is more recent.

Their email system is probably slow and not everyone gets the email anyways, it's not a cause for concern IMO.

For future reference, the UPS label that you have to stick on the box they sent you has the tracking number so you can just write it down and look it up online to see the real time progress on it.

Shit, this sucks. My disc tray won't close anymore. So it looks like I'm gonna have to call up MS and get another system. I think this makes for the third or fourth one for me. I'm getting quite tired of it. This piece of shit better still be under warranty or I'm getting a PS3. At least if I have to send it off, I can fire up my Wii again.

Man, that's ridiculous. When this thing works, it's a thing of beauty. Too bad all the hardware problems are spoiling the experience. I never even really got to put mine through the paces when it died.

Just got a refurb back from MS on Thurs. It works like a champ so far. I've been d/l'ing demos and stuff like a son-of-a-gun. Wish Oblivion and some others would price drop soon.

Well my 360 died this week. It was only about 7 months old. While playing a game of GOW it just froze up and the screen was all screwed up with static. When I rebooted I heard clicking noises over the a/v for a second, then it just sounded like it was struggling and it started flashing red/green red/green. I have to call coffin support now...

wow just called microsoft to see if they had received my 360 since i hadnt received any emails and the guys said they shipped my system back to me today!!!

that is fucking awesome...

Jack Bauer saved my 360!!!!

The drive wouldn't close by itself and wouldn't read discs when I closed it manually. After watching and finishing 24 season 1 (using the HD-DVD drive), CTU and Bauer seems to have saved my drive (though he couldn't save his wife, but fair trade off, I think). Thanks Bauer. Though knowing 24, something bad is bound to happen. Time to call MS to buy that extended warranty for me.

Mine has frozen a number of times. I never got any overheating light sequences. It's frozen several times playing Vegas. The last time it froze was in a match of Halo 2. I turned it back on 30 minutes later and it gave me the red lights. Now it's back at Microsoft's repair center.

Maybe someone can offer an opinion. My brother thinks my home is too hot. We don't run the AC a lot. It's comfortable to us, but it's usually about 76-78 degrees inside. Where I store my 360 isn't closed in at all and it's not near anything hot.

I have had it plugged into a Monster power strip. According to the rep I spoke to this isn't good. She said it had to be plugged straight into a wall. I thought that was strange, but maybe that's what killed it? Maybe I just have dirty electricity? I don't know. This is the same house where I've played an Xbox, PS2 and Cube, not to mention used high end AV stuff, for about 4 years. I don't like the feeling that I can't control what's happening to my 360. If there was something I could correct I would, but I have no idea what the problem is.

Oh, also, I just bought it in November. I waited a whole year just avoid issues like this. Meanwhile, my friend bought his around launch and still hasn't had any problems. No fair!

I had mine plugged into a surge protector as well and was also told to plug it straight into the outlet. No other problems thus far with freezing or overheating *knock on wood*. I guess the 360 just needs it's own outlet, not sure what the power consumption differences are from an outlet and a power strip.

I got my 360 back today from McAllen, and I'm happy to have it back. The only bad thing is that now that I have two out of the three nextgen consoles (I went Wii60) is that I'm considering giving up my Wii and just going back straight 360. The reason I'm thinking that is because of the fact that for the longest time, I had just my PC ... then I bought my 360, and things changed.

Glad you got yours back! Hold on to the Wii, though... you're going to see some great stuff on that system over its lifespan, plus the VC has been pretty good. Doing the Wii60 thing seems to be the way to go this gen... absolute best of both worlds!

I've had my 360 plugged in a power strip with the Wii (Gamecube before the Wii came out), TV, DVD player and stereo for over a year.. no problems here at all.

//edit: no problems power wise, I mean.. the problems that I have had were due to hardware malfunctions

I was wondering does Microsoft use the same ups tracking number or do they use a different one for when they send the console back.
Is this the number I call to tell them that my 360 has the red ring of death?

1-800-4MY-XBOX
Yes.

My 360 died Tuesday. Cry for me, thanks red ring of death. But since I got it at Costco the month after launch, I'll be happy again on Monday when I go back to Costco! First console that has died on me since the Sega Saturn...
When does UPS stop shipping products(Eastern Time)
whenever they get done. and they dont deliver residentially on the weekends

Well, I have been having some problems with my 360 (3 red lights and freezing) and I called microsoft yesterday evening. They are sending me a coffin and I have some questions if someone could help.

1. How long does this process really take? The guy told me last night that it would be around thursday before I got my box...and then 3 weeks after I sent it in. Is this true? I don't know if I can live off my wii for nearly a month!

2. The guy told me to remove my hard drive and accessories....should I remove my faceplate? Is this a way to get a free white one?

3. They told me to write my number on the box when I get it and "drop it off at a ups store...they would take it off my hands." Am I going to have to pay for shipping? I forgot to ask and this guy didn't mention it.

4. He told me that they had a bad batch of systems and that they were going to send me a newer, better one. Is this true? Or am I going to have the same problems? Are there certain manufacture dates that are more unreliable?

5. Warranty. He told me that my warranty lasts until Nov of this year. Does the manufactuers warranty restart when I get this "new" or "refurbished" or "recycled" system?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I bought my 360 during the TRU sale last December so I received a fairly new batch as well. My house stays a cozy 79-80 degrees F becuase of the automatic thermostat. I have my 360 in a shelf (no door to cover shelf) and plugged into an APC power strip.

Only two occurances of freezing. Once during Gun and once during MLB 2K6. Haven't had a problem with Gears, Vegas, or anything of the sort. Still running like a champ.

Therefore, I just think it's a bad system.

More like two. They'll get it a few days after you send it (not counting weekends) then they'll send one back.. you'll get it right around 2 weeks from sending it off.

2. The guy told me to remove my hard drive and accessories....should I remove my faceplate? Is this a way to get a free white one?

I suppose, if you no longer want the one that's on there.

3. They told me to write my number on the box when I get it and "drop it off at a ups store...they would take it off my hands." Am I going to have to pay for shipping? I forgot to ask and this guy didn't mention it.

Mine was pre-paid

4. He told me that they had a bad batch of systems and that they were going to send me a newer, better one. Is this true? Or am I going to have the same problems? Are there certain manufacture dates that are more unreliable?

More reliable, it's a crapshoot.. early 06 seems to be the best bet right now, the drives in later 06 models (august/september) seem to be crapping out (including mine)

5. Warranty. He told me that my warranty lasts until Nov of this year. Does the manufactuers warranty restart when I get this "new" or "refurbished" or "recycled" system?

Now that i'm not sure of. The guy with broken english that I talked to said I have until this August (because I bought my new(er) one last August), then another year.. which I think is BS, but whatever. Call and ask.

Yay, I get to join this support group. My 360 died last night. I just got the HD DVD player for it too, got to watch one movie for it. I think I won't be too upset as long as I get the system back before GH2 comes out.

They want me to pay for shipping there? Is that normal? It sounds like a lot of you got a prepaid box to ship it in. How is it that you get them to do that for you?

Wooooowww, Since my '05 launch unit was replaced with one manufactured on '06 I dont get the 1 year warrenty and have to pay. What gayness.

Hah this keeps getting worse. The 1 year warranty was on the origonal xbox 360 not the replacment unit for when my origonal one broke thats why I have to pay. GAYYYYY fucking shit.
Mine has frozen a number of times. I never got any overheating light sequences. It's frozen several times playing Vegas.
The terrorists in Vegas killed mine this morning. I had some problems with R6:V freezing and then checkerboarding, even after marathon Marvel:UA sessions with no problems just days before. Then I finally got the Rings. I didn't push for a coffin and now I regret it. I've already boxed it up and resigned myself to paying for shipping, so meh.

Until it happens to you, you think it only happens to other people. I had it well-ventilated (even with a desk fan nearby to cool it and my LCD monitor) and babied it. Bummer. Luckily I have a backlog of DS games to tide me over. The (former) residents of Boingburg NEED me right now.

UPDATE: Sent Xbox to McAllen, TX via USPS Priority Mail on 2/20 (thought I'd track the repair timeframe for reference)
UPDATE: Delivered on 2/23...exciting stuff, stay tuned
UPDATE: Called 3/2 because the online status still says "box shipped to customer"- it hasn't been touched by a technician and could still be in their mailbox, for all they know. If I didn't have the delivery confirmed by USPS, I bet they would have said they never got it. Yay. So much for "two business days".
UPDATE: Still nothing, so I called this morning (3/6). I gave the nice lady the tracking number and she verified they had it. Then she is going to send an e-mail to the repair center to see what's happening and try to expedite. I wanted to piss and moan, but what is she going to do? Sigh. It's probably best they still have my 360- otherwise I'd have to play Blitz: The League and I hate that game. I'll buy anything when it's $19.99.
UPDATE: Called again yesterday (3/9)- this time they double-for-reals-swore that it was in the repair center. 2 business days has turned into 2+ business weeks. This has been frustrating. On the plus side, I've had time to finish Rocket Slime and am now playing Phoenix Wright: AA.
UPDATE: Xbox.com support page finally says "no pending repair" on 3/12. I hope that means it's on its way.

FINAL UPDATE: ...aaaaand it's back (3/15). Well, a new/refurb one, anyway. New S/N, manufactured in October 2006 (can't remember when my broken one was made, though it was before 10/06). So, from "oh crap" to UPS delivery was 18 business days. That's slow. I think I'll fill out the survey they sent in the box and tell them so.
:D:D:D Well, I just got my xbox back. I'm happy with the turnaround, just about 2 weeks after making the phone call.
Did you get a coffin or ship it yourself.
Did you get a coffin or ship it yourself.
I got sent a coffin.

Also, I just turned it on and the language was in Spanish. Is this normal for people getting their systems back? For them to be in a foreign language?
