i got the "repair completed" email on saturday and the serial number listed is the same as what I sent them..questions

1. Does this mean they're shipping me the same console with the heatsink?
2. How long does it take for them to ship it after sending out the "repair completed" email? Can I expect it to go out on Monday?
1. Maybe, isn't hard to drill some holes and attach the heatsink. I'm torn to give you a correct answer i'm 50/50. You will be our judge and report back.

2. Should be Monday, if you don't receive a tracking number by the end of monday I would call them late monday, early tuesday to check on the status.

I got a free Xbox live vision cam free year of OXM, and 2 months free of xbox out of M$ live since they sent out my coffin about a week late.

How'd you get that out of them? Did they offer or did you have to yell?

After having a launch console work this long, it finally died last night. One night of freezing once in the menus and having distorted video and a crack sound, and the next night, after two more freezes, it is done. Figures, right when I was going to finally watch 300, it breaks, so there goes my HD-DVD player (but there is the regular DVD side, but I was really looking forward to the HD side). Oh well, would be nice if I get it back before I leave to go back to campus near the end of the month, but it's doubtful, but if not, oh well.

My launch console also just bit the dust. Started freezing a lot on me during the Darkness, then finally got the rings. I was able to get back to green a couple of times disconnecting the HDD and powering down and restarting, but finally seems to be gone. Requested my coffin today. HOping to have it back with enough time to play some Bioshock before Halo 3 comes out...

thanks

I will report back with my findings....maybe this will be an easier way to tell if you're getting the new heatsink or not.

Or it just means they fixed it.

Also, got repair completed email aswell. It hasnt been that long since they recieved it, I think I might be getting a new one.

I had to call 3 times. After I never got the coffin for while I called a 3rd time. This is about little over 2 weeks. The guy I got told me that they first two people never put my order though at all. He told me that my file said I wanted a coffin but they never did any of the work to send it out. I asked the guy if I get extra for me waiting for so long. He said to me that he will talk to his superviser and put me on hold for about 2 min. and he I am going to give you a month of XBL free and your choose of these. The chooses I had were GOR, Kameo, Shadowrun, Xbox 360 Vision which comes with a headset and a month of XBL, or a wireless controller. He also said few other games but I can't remember the other 5. The OXM I did not even know about until I got in the mail the other day. Thats all I had to do.

I'm calling again tomorrow (6th or 7th time since hey received mine almost a month ago). If there is no update, I'm raising all kinds of shit. This is beyond ridiculous.

I've been nothing but lied to over and over again and I've frickin' had it.

Anyone on #2? I had to buy a new one, since the warrenty was only 90 days back when it died. Now my second one has been toast for a month or so now. Just havent had time to call in the warrenty. Hopefully Target's warrenty place cant fix it, so i can just get the giftcard and put it toward an elite.

Ok, so my 360 stopped reading saints row and I think it's time to send it in. I don't want to wait it out for the drive to eventually die, becuase I had this exact same problems with Gears. Plus, the disc isn't even scratched at all. Saints Row plays less and less every day. So...I have a few questions.

Does the standard warranty cover the DVD drive failures anymore?

So, if I send my console in to have the DVD drive replaced do they put in the heatsink as a standard now or is that just for 3RL cases. I'd think it'd be lame for them to send me out my same console back and I get 3RL months later :(.
Will they repair the console if it is only not reading select games?

If they don't repair DVD drives for free now then I will force my console to get the 3RL. They can suck it.

Well, I just checked online and the serial number changed. Basing off of the last 5 digits of the serial, I'm getting a 6/24/05 build refurb. Focker better be in tip-top shape.
I'm getting a 6/24/05 build refurb.
Yikes, you're getting a 360 that was made before every other one! Or did you mean 06?

Launch 360 gave me the ring of death a day ago...box is on the way. p.s. dont try the towel trick it is damaging the console more than helping it, if you get the ring and ur power brick is green then its broke period end of story according to microsoft.

It looks like a good number of launch consoles are mysteriously starting to die right about now, maybe there was more of a reason MS extended the warranty...
Yikes, you're getting a 360 that was made before every other one! Or did you mean 06?
It's possible it could be a very early dev system! :D

xxxxxxx62405

The one sent in was an 07 build and the last two digits were 07 in the serial. Maybe it's just strange coincidence?

I second what Punk_Raven said.

6=last digit of year of manufacture, 24=week of manufacture, and 05=factory code of manufacture. So it was built between 11-17 June 2006!

Great, reading this is scaring me.

I got the red rings of death over the weekend. Sucks big time (almost worse, since I had friends over to show it off, and it has to die then).

I was all happy with how they were sending everything out, and I had complete confidence that MS knew what they were doing, until reading some of these posts. I'm hoping (maybe against hope) that I will have a better experience.

Just placed my order in. It's nice to know that you can easily do this online becuase I really hate talking to those people ( i've pranked them a few times and I couldn't understand them then, and neither could they understand me, soo...). So if you don't want to talk to them you can go to support.xbox.com. Though you won't be able to squeeze some points out of a website for your troubles.

GRRRR mine just broke this morning. I was downloading Assault Heroes and then it froze. 2-3 restarts later the console is down and out with red. The stupid support.xbox.com kept giving me an error and said to call the number so I was forced to talk to someone with a hella heavy accent. I hope I'll still be able to dl Assault Heroes for free when I get my 360 back.

Oh yeah I got my 360 on 12/18/05 and the manufacture date on the back says 2005-11-01.

I was checking my repair status on xbox.com and now the serial number has changed and it says no pending repair.

Does that mean Im getting a refurb 360 sent back to me?

Mine is on it's way back and should be here today or tomorrow. I think I'm going to relocate it to the bottom shelf of my entertainment center and hope it doesn't crap out again. I had it sandwiched in between the DVD player and the FIOS modem all behind a closed cabinet door with no ventilation... probably not a good idea but the wife (and me) isn't about to stare at the ugly-ass xbox 360 all day so I have to hide it. The bottom shelf only has the PStwo and Wii so there's room for the 360 - plus there will be more space for it to breathe. i'll rpobably cut a hole out of the back of the entertainment center too to help out with airflow...

Yep, a refurb.

Just got my 360 back earlier today... total turn around was about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks... not too bad. So far so good with it... It was at least a newer one than I sent in. I sent in one that was manufactured in early 06, this one was made not but a couple months ago....

It sure in nice to have it back...

well forget what i said

i guess i'm blind..i have a different serial number, but i wonder how it could be refurb if we're going by the coding scheme in this thread.

according to the last six digits mine was built in 2007, week 30...which is like 2 weeks ago.

Hope I get the heatsink

Dude. All consoles manufactured in july supposedly have the falcon chipset. Not only do you have the heatsink...but you have the falcon chipse.t

Congrats.

*cues balloons and confetti*

also...streamers.

Alot of people have been getting new consoles. I'm hoping that i get a winner.

Got the tracking number today. Hopefully it will be here in the next few days.

Total turn-around time was over a month. 2 months if you count the fact they sent me a broken refurb the first time.

If this one dies, I'm telling M$ to go fornicate themselves with a iron stick.

I'd like to belive that. I'd need proof that 1) its true and 2) some time to see if any 3RR appear.

MS already claimed that new chipset would come out in Q3. Then they release the new warranty and we never hear about that again from them. Why? Becuase they're trying to sell the crappy ones to the consumers. THe crappy ones will die out and they will be sent in so they can get a heatsink, which supposedly fixes the 3RL error. I have heard no problems of 3RL when having the heatsink.

RIght now, you're just not going to get proof from anyone. The people who have the july consoles have gotten them back by sending their consoles in for repair....they aren't going to open shit up for anyone and I"m with them. You can't buy a July 360 right now in retail (generally ) becuase there's too much old stock. And Microsoft will never say anything publicly about the Falcon chipset, and I'm with them too. 'Making improvements to the reliability of the console..." is enough. Get more specific and the average consomer will start looking for serial numbers on the box and the old stock won't sell.

And yes, only time will tell. Hopefully we can get atleast 4 years on a console now. Yeah, that's still not exactly good but this is the xbox 360, so it's excellent. I'm trying to be optimistic here, but it's really hard at this point. Ofcourse, I could be pessimistic and say that the heatsinks won't do anything, the chipset won't do anything, and nothing will ever fix the 360 but that would leave me empy inside.

so my 360 died on friday the 13th. called them, sent me a coffin. waited a week or so. kept checking online, called them and they said get to them by the 9th. so today i receive a call from UPS w/ a tracking #. im suprised.
i received my 360 back today thinking it was going to be a refurb or something. but it is in fact a brand spanking new 360. made july 25,2007. i was really impressed by the turnaround truthfully.

Got mine back today. So far, so good. I can honestly say it's in better shape than the one I sent in. I don't know if this has been posted or not, but this is the letter I got with my xbox:

It's pretty obvious that you don't get the same one you sent in.

 I'm sad to report my 360 died this evening. It's my first 360 break down. I bought it in December 06 from Overstock.com during the 20% coupon deal. I'd really hate to get a refurb, I've taken great care of this unit and I do not want someones sh!t box.

Does anyone think that there's a possibility of Microsoft replacing these 360s with refurbished 65nms in the future? I'm feeling a little crapped on right now.

Got the phone call from UPS today. 360 will be here tomorrow, most likely in the morning, since we're early on the driver's route.

I can't wait to get my hands on that survey that comes with it, since they aren't getting any positive marks at all this time.
Good luck. That's all I can say.
I'm not expecting any miracles, but I figured I am going to let them know about all of the BS I went through over the past three months. Whether or not they even read it, it will make me feel better.

I'm suppose to get a refurb back tomorow.
Hopefully everything works right.

Thanks to everyone in this thread for helping me out and answering some of my questions.

Mine bricked today :( I had just got MVC2 in the mail, and had to download the new update, and boom red rings.

I was told 5-7 days for the coffin, and 3-4 week turnaround all together. Bought new, July last year.

I feel so empty. I have plenty of other things i can do, but I just want to play :(
Does it have an HDMI port and/or run any cooler/quieter?
Of course it doesn't have an HDMI port, why would they give an elite away when they could just sell them?

As for quieter and cooler, we don't have thermometers in our systems, but I can say mine is quieter.
