I don't know, but I found this funny as well as a good tip.

My 360 #2 has been RRoD'ing every so often, but again, I don't want to be without the thing for another month again or whatever. This is quite the inconvenience.
 
I'm new to the coffin support group. my coffin should arrive today. is turnaround time like a month? I can't believe this shit happens right before my vacation starts and bioshock comes out. Does everyone get a refurbished system back or do some people get their original back and not have to sign in to play live arcade games?

who else is living in fear? everytime I power on my 360 system I jsut have to pray that it doesn't die on me. I have gone through 3 systems (although 2 were under store warranty. I can't believe the failure rate of the 360 is so high, this system will forever be known for its 3 red rings, and its shitty hardware. Hopefully all these new units the premiums with HDMI will be better. One of my neighbors the whole family are hardcore 360 gamers, and they have 2 systems. 1 to play, and 1 as backup just in case the others break so they can keep playing without having to wait for Microsoft or getting a refurbished system back lol.

At least Microsoft is doing good extending the warranty etc, but all the hassle, wait and the thought of only getting back a refurbished system back that is guarenteed to break doesn't help much. I thought PS2 was bad with its disc read erros the 360 tops the cake. Its like the red rings are there to laugh in your face everytime your system fails
 
I've been waiting 4 weeks for a box to send it. My 360 is out of warranty. It only has the one red ring. I've called 4 times. They always send me to a specialist, which takes forever. The second time(second week) i called they said they would call me the next day and they didn't. The third time(third week) they said give it 3 more days.Finally some guy named miguel on the fourth call(today, fourth week) promised me a box in 3-5 days. I haven't played any 360 games in 4 weeks. I better get something free.

Edit: And I'm paying $100 to get it fixed by them.
 
I sent mine in last week, and according to the service.xbox.com site, they received it yesterday. By the end of the day yesterday, the status was "no pending repairs" and the serial number had changed. Does this mean they're not even trying now, just shipping out a refurb as soon as they get a system in? I won't complain if they send me a new one that works as quickly as it seems they may, but damn.

And it's pretty telling about the 360 when the coffin support thread is 92 pages long and always on the first page of the 360 forums. At least I never have to look far to find sympathizers...

The 360 arrived in NJ this morning (30 minutes from where I live) and is now on it's way to Philly which is the complete opposite direction. I don't understand that logic. Looks like I'll be getting it on Monday and not today. At least I get it before BioShock's release.

I think that's pretty much the standard. They receive yours, ship you a previously repaired one, repair yours, then somewhere down the line someone else gets your repaired console.

Well, here's my final scorecard, for anybody looking for a fairly precise timetable ;)

My 360 died on Thursday, 7/19. Called Microsoft on Friday, 7/20. They didn't ship out my coffin until Wednesday, 7/25. Got it via UPS on Monday, 7/30. I shipped it out on Wednesday, 8/01. Got an email from MS that my console was recieved on Tuesday, 8/07. Got an email that the 'repair' was completed on Tuesday, 8/14, though I could tell it was a refurb from the serial number. It arrived today, Friday, 8/17.

I took a few photos when it arrived and it looks like mine has the new heatsink in it, since it's very close to the vents, and I can't see back towards the DVD drive. The manufacturing date is 8/04/07, go figure. No HDMI port in it. The system works well, thus far. Hopefully it'll last me a while.

You're going to wait a hell of a lot longer than a week. I've waited exactly one week since my 360 arrived in McAllen and it's still marked a "delivered." Meaning they got a box in the mail and didn't even open it yet.

I know, I'm trying to stay optomistic about it. I'm actually really pissed since now I know i'm going to miss out of the COD4 beta, won't get the skate demo till the game is pratically out, won't get to play bioshock or stranglehold for a couple of weeks, and this is actually my second console that has broken.
But what can I do, MS screwed up with there design fo the 360. Hopefully I will get the new heat sink and have it back before SKATE comes out.
 
Supposedly the new heatsink installation isn't guaranteed. People have been getting back 360s without them. Of course, those wind up dying within a week or so.

They need to speed up the process. New systems for those whose 360 died within a year, sent out immediately after the broken system is scanned in at the loading dock. Show a little priority for owners who have systems still under the traditional warranty. Then they'll have more refurbs to pass out to those with old voided-warranty systems getting a mercy repair from the 3 year RRoD warranty. That way they can roll systems out the door faster instead of ending up with a shortage of refurbs. Right now they have to repair them in realtime, and ultimately end up with sloppy workmanship and an increase in the waiting period after the repaired units die within days or weeks and make a return trip.

Yep, I received a refurbished 360 on August 3rd with a 10/2006 date of manufacture and no new heatsink. I was somewhat disappointed and it's already locked up on me a couple inopportune times which is enough to concern me.
 
If it locks up at all, it's defective for sure. There should be zero lockups. Software should be the only thing causing odd effects. Heck, I thought NCAA 08 was killing my 360 because so many people were reporting lockups, but it was the stupid 360. I knew it was a problem when XBLA games started locking up.
 
I'm looking at my serial number on Xbox.com and the last 5 digits are 73205. At first I freaked out thinking it was made 7/32/05 but that makes no sense since there is no 32nd day in July and after doing a few searches in this thread, it looks like 7 stands for the year, 32 stands for the 32nd week, and 05 stands for a manufacturing code. If that is true then the one they are sending me was literally built just last week between 8/5 and 8/11. God I hope that is true. :pray:
 
i'm sending mine this next week, but i have a question, do i have to send my console with the hard drive or i have to take it out and send it without it??? i dont wanna lose my 3400 xbla ponits ....

It has instructions on how to send it. You send it without the hard drive.
 
well add me to the list as my 360 just died on me. i got madden on wednesday and finally got around to playing a game on thursday night. loaded it up everything was fine got to the team selection screen and it froze up on me, i figure no big deal ill just restart and try again... same thing. finally got it to work to play 1 game after 30 min of restarting. this morning i go to play madden again and got through 1 game before it locked up went to reset the 360 and got the 3 rings. its off to cc to exchange it since i paid for the 2 year protection plan.

Holy fucking shit! I was playing Catan and got the "Scholar of Catan" achievement and my system instantaneously locked up. I turned it off after waiting for it to respond for a minute or so, then turned it back on and it had 3 red rings. All it will do is display 3 red rings now... bullshit I had this one basically 1 week and now it's toast. It even had the new heat sinks. Figures and I just ordered Bioshock. Hey though they're giving me a free copy of PGR3 woopity doo, how about offering something that is a little more current instead of stuff everyone has. If this really was a brand new system, then they must be making them shittier than ever and not even a new set of heat sinks will save them. Such bullshit.

At least it work for awhile when you got it. The first refurb I got was broken when it arrived. It took over a month to get a replacement for that one. I'm still bitter with MS over this whole thing.
 
From the time after I recieved my 1st reference number for the coffin/repair and my second one for the free game, which was well under 10 minutes, 366 other reference numbers had been issued.... on a Saturday.

I ended up bowing out of the repair with MS by swapping it out with Costco. Had me drag everything back with them, and ended up with an extra Ethernet cables & headset, because I forgot to bring them. Problem is that my old console had a manufacture date of 2006-09-02, which was bought in December 2006, and the new one also had a manufacture date of 2006-09-02. :wall: The more annoying issue is that the old console was whisper-quiet. The new has the leaf-blower sound. :wall: :wall:

So, at some point, if this one dies, it'll need to go back to Costco or go to MS to get repair + heatsink augmentation.

But they're sending out new systems for replacements! It was a July 27th 2007 system that got the rrod.
 
If it weren't for the fact that the 360 has the best library I would have went with a PS3 instead ;)

But my new 360 is working fine, so far. But who knows if it'll break down tomorrow....
 
My 360 hates soccer games (i hate calling it that but w/e). First, it cracks my FIFA 07 which of course I will NEVER get a refund for (assholes!) and now my perfectly fine copy of UEFA Champions League wont even be read.


The demos screw up a lot and my 360 whistles at me every once in a while for about 15 minutes. Other then that its stable but this is pissing me off. I wanted a fixed 360, not a half-fixed...

I called them around 9-something PM on Tuesday night, and I had an email later that evening with the status of the case, plus another one overnight while I was sleeping with the UPS tracking # for the coffin.

When I get some spare time, I'll call or them or email them to let them know that I swapped out my console with Costco.

I was playing Dead Rising and it started to lock up whenever I tried to load a game. I turned it off for about 30 minutes and when I turned it back on, I got one red light and error 79. Took the hard drive out, still one red light. Called MS and the coffin will be on its way.

I was hoping the Elite wouldn't have the same failure rate, but apparently I was wrong.

Ya mine did that same thing, but i don't have the elite. One red light is supposed to be a harddrive failure, but i got it when i took my harddrive out. Go figure, should be getting my coffin tommorrow.

Six weeks? Is it outside of the return policy date for the store you bought it from?
 
Shrike: Had I read this thread before calling MS for my own coffin, I would have taken yours! :)

CokeCola: I bought it at Best Buy (no extended service plans or anything) and their return policy is only 30 days from the date of purchase.

This is a really awful time for my 360 to crap out. Guess I'll finish Zelda TP and Super Paper Mario in the meantime and stare at my copy of Bioshock LE when it arrives tomorrow.

Received a email sunday my 360 is on its way back. Noticed its a different serial number right off the bat.

I tried to get into Zelda Twilight Princess while it was gone, but even with the new controls I just couldn't get into it. Zelda needs a facelift...

Mine (or the new serial # they're calling mine) is being sent back today. Pretty good turn around for me actually. I called on 8/5, got my coffin 8/9, shipped it 8/10, they received it on 8/16, shipped my replacement 8/20. I just hope my new one works. I'm dying to get into Bioshock.

A co-worker of mine got one back about 2 weeks ago and it red ringed on him over the weekend. He didn't check for the heat sink, so I don't know whether it had one or not. This is his 4th RLOD system.

I got into Okami and Kingdom Hearts on PS2 while mine was away. MS is going to create a lot of Sony and Nintendo fans by taking away 360's so often...
