Just called them about it, since my Xbox has disappeared from the status page & registered devices as of Friday night. The rep (American believe it or not!) told me that he is showing that it was received and signed for at the repair center, and that I should call back in the next couple of days if it isn't showing up. Has anyone else experienced this problem? From the posts that I have read, some have received status updates via email and not seen disappearing serial #'s.

By the way.. I asked the CSR, from his experience, how long it would take from this point to receive my 360 back. He said 2 weeks. Son of a bitch... while some of you will be playing Halo, I guess I'll be playing Super Metroid on the Wii.

It sounds as if we are all experiencing the same thing.

After my previous post, my device has disappeared from my Xbox support page, too. It seems the new web support system works about as well as most MS products.

Heh, showed my console was delivered ontime in Mexico, and I also recived my XBOX 360 today at my door step. w/e looks i have a referbished one.

If there were ever a "game journalist" that watched CAG, a really good story would be an investigative piece to see how many "repairs" MS is handling during the release week of the biggest game of the year. It kind of disturbs me to see so many people.. who purchased the console early on in the product life cycle.. get shafted with crappy hardware and poor support. Companies need to realize that warranty extension is a good PR move and all.. but to really garner any effect from it, it has to at least be implemented halfway.

At least I know now that I'm not the only one who's had my repair disappear from the status page. It kind of puts my mind at ease, although I'll have to wait another couple of weeks to get my system back. Super Metroid and Kirby's Adventure on the VC can only last so long, you know?

They had a thing up that said between this day and this day there may be some problems with the repair page so thats prolly what it was. Im just going to sell my old one whenever it gets back. Does anyone know if the month that they give you stacks with my main account

CONSOLE #2 DOWN!!!!!!!!! HOORJ!!!!!

Get home with a fresh copy of Halo 3, wham bam thank you ma'am, 3 RED RINGS. SONUVABIZNITCH.

2 consoles dead in under a year. Thanks a lot!

Well the sound is starting to cut out whenever I use my 360. Mine is a launch unit thats never had any problems before this. The audio just stops and starts ever few seconds.

Should I call it in or wait it out?

If it's a launch 360 then they probably won't help you until it's RROD'd.

In other news, my 360 finally arrived at the center! Now I get to see just how long the turnaround is during the mad Halo rush.
Still, the only problem was the incredibly sketchy disc drive that couldn't distinguish a game from thin air. It realistically shouldn't take that long to replace a drive.(and hopefully add a heatsink!)
If it's a launch 360 then they probably won't help you until it's RROD'd.
I actually bought an extended warranty for it direct from MS thats good until 12/18 either 07 or 08.

ok, MS offically sucks..

I got a call from UPS saying to expect a package tomorrow. I don't know if it's my console or something I ordered from Amazon (but UPS has never called about Amazon before).

So I call MS, and of course, the stupid rep gives me the tracking number of one that was delivered to Mexico on the 24th. He couldn't provide me with a tracking number that was correct, so who knows if it's really my console.

He said to call UPS, so I did; and they were just as helpful.. saying they couldn't give me a tracking number, it was in the automated system..

such worthless customer service, could barely even understand the MS guy

Just arrived. Same S/N that I saw on the website for that brief amount of time. Looks pretty good, minus a dirty area. Can't tell if it has a second heatsink or not. Where's that picture at so I can reference?

fuck!!! i arrive home with halo 3, and what do i see? RRoD!!

i guess ill towel trick it and see how long that lasts, and then once i have to send it off, i'll just buy a core somewhere then return it

I picked up Halo 3 at midnight release, took it home and loaded it up and got the free Red Ring upgrade! It froze the 360 initially and my prize finally arrived when I rebooted a few times. Anyone else get lucky too? 30% failure rate are great odds! I'd like to take this time to thank Microsoft and the fine folks at Bungie for my new Limited Edition Red Ring of Death Elite 360 Door Stopper! I'll be calling Microsoft tomorrow to claim my free 3 year warranty extension.

what a nice confined space you keep your xbox in. Directly ontop of another heat generating electronic device. Learn2airflow.

This is some fucking bullshit. My brother was playing Halo 3 single player just now and all of a sudden the game froze on him. So he turned the 360 off then on again only to have the game freeze at the title screen. After the second freeze, he says he's giving up for the night, so I take the controller and turn it back on to play some Live. Lo and behold I get the RROD. I couldn't make a video since my shitty digital camera is out of commission, but I managed to get a pic with the camera on the blackberry:

We've only had the 360 for 23 days and it red rings on us? The thing has been horizonal the whole time. And before anybody says that plastic bag was blocking ventilation, that bag is on the shelf beneath the one the 360 sits on.

Good thing we got that extended warranty from BB so we can just swap this 360 for another one. When the fuck is the Falcon gonna get here?

PS3 up top, 360 in the middle and Sony reciever on bottom. Everything sits on Sanus PFFP2 with 2 glass shelving well spaced and ventilated with a 5ft fan constantly circulating air through it. Learn2StopBeingRetarded

Make sure you ask for a loaner 360. I have listened to a couple of different podcast that have said if you ask for a loaner, they will give it to you.

Anyone who blames anybody but Microsoft for a failed 360 is a fool and a liar. I've never seen an instance where someone does something so damnfool ("I set my oven to 350 and put my 360 in there, why won't it play any games?") that they should be blamed themselves. While it may *occasionally* be the case, a dead 360 after 3 weeks is pathetic.

I don't know that you should have paid for the BB PRP - it saves you time in swapping it out, sure - but you could have not spent the money on the PRP and gotten a free repair (4-6 weeks turnaround) from MS.

But its cool for Sony with the PS2 'DRE's', right?
At least MS fixes them for free.

Yes. That's exactly what I said. I also said that anybody complaining about lead paint in children's toys is a pussy who doesn't want their children to develop a resistance to pollution.

Any other words you'd like to put in my mouth?

Hello and welcome to the year 2000

The reciever on the bottom makes no sense that thing puts out rediculous amounts of heat and usually has no fan. RTFM you need at least 6 inches of clearance above the device.

The 360 was bound to happen you just made it worst in your choice of setup. In this case it was for the best because it broke within the 30 day swap.

OP, I'd personally return the PRP and get your money back (since MS' warranty is 3 years long now). Depends on the cost of it, I suppose - if you can get a new 360 games out of it, then go for it. People chasing after the Falcon are waiting for Godot, IMO.

Only for RROD. It's not a comprehensive 3-year warranty.

I know that. But, just like, when calling into work, saying "I can't come in, I have the shits," calling up Microsoft and saying "HAY DUDZ RROD!" is a foolproof way to get your console repaired. Unless it somehow caught fire and is charred.

If my 360 breaks for any reason (again), I'll call them up and say nothing more than "RROD." Why waste time talking to them about it, when I have such resources at my feet?

Man, I just got my 360 back. I gotta say, that took a much shorter time than I expected. Maybe ~3 weeks if I'm not mistaken. And I remember when I had called CS at first I actually understood the guy and it was only like a 20 minute call unlike what I've heard around here about that as well. So yea, I guess that OMG rush of when it first got announced (the warranty extension that is) is coming to an end hopefully.

And I'm guessing everyone gets a month of Live Gold with their console they get back? Cause that seems like a nice enough jesture on their part.

It's a simple 2 channel sony reciever that gets warm at most, hardly hot and there's about 6" space in between. But thats besides the point because the rings appeared immediately right when I turned the system on.

I'm engaged in a deal to buy a Premium 360 with GoW, two controllers, and hookups for $300~. Actually, writing that down, it doesn't even seem like a good deal. Anyway, the thing is, it's a launch system from the December of the year it came out. Is it still covered by warranty? Is there any way it could become covered? The man, with whom I work and respect, says there are no problems; I'm just wary that I may get officially RRoD'd a month into it. Advice?

The RROD warranty is for three years, so you'd be covered.

Except that if they can't reproduce the RROD in Texas, you're just going to get it right back.

Pretty simple to create the RROD, you just have to remember to do so.

In other news, it *appears* that I got a unit with two heatsinks. Just last until I can exchange it at MicroCenter...

thats the only thing I'm scared of when I send this one in. It seems to boot up after about 4-5 tries. But when it boots up the Red Ring of Death continues to flash while I navigate through the dash and while playing a game. Good thing I have proof on video.

fnally got my 360 back..

had to wait home all day for UPS.. who sure took their time

I'e noticed it's alot less quiter, and isn't getting hot (as fast)

and it appears to be the same manufactor date
If My xbox was delivered on the 21st how much longer do you think I will have to wait.
Mine was delivered the 10th, and I recieved one today the 26th if that gives you any indication

My 360 froze several times today when trying to send people messages on Xbox Live. Is it a problem with the system, or is Xbox Live having Halo 3 related problems? It never froze when I was playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

ok so i got a new serial number for my broken 360 and it makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever...does the last 5 digits 89999 mean anything? my old 360 had 62505 so it was made in the 25th week of 2006 in China right? then what the heck is 89999??

anyone no the answer to this?
