Wow, a lot of butthurt coming from akgamer over trading in a used copy of a game for used copy price and keeping the steelbook.  I'm pretty sure that's common practice all over this site.  Door is -------------> that way.

 
This isn't about trading in games or returning games at all, this is about a specific exploit. I've posted this again for a few of you to re-read very slowly, take your time (EdgeCrusher36):

"The premise of the steel book bonus & that $10 Reward Cert. is that Best Buy gets your business & you take and keep the game.

So basically, when you buy a game at a discount, take their pre-order bonus steel book & there $10 cert; and then immediately turn around and open their game and sell it back to them so they can re-sell it as USED because they don't accept sealed trade ins. So you're essentially taking their case & there $10 bonus for nothing"

Note the words, immediately turn around. People who buy the game for the sole purpose of taking the case & $10 only to trade it back right away to keep the perks. That's sleazy no matter how you look at it. Nothing to do with "Trade Ins being bad or returns" in general.

Really simple concept, I think most people with basic comprehension skills can understand what I'm saying and would agree.

Well to be fair, the game probably won't be in their trade-in system for at least a few days (or weeks or more), so the criminals and kitten-eaters will not be able to do it immediately...
 
At least we are all reminded of a valuable lesson today:  Best Buy offers some great deals on day1 video game purchases and trade-ins these days.

So much so that some people find it quite upsetting.

You are incorrect in several aspects. So far, no one has agreed with you. Also it is not sleazy to trade a game in that you own. At the point the first transaction is complete I own the game. They are two independent transactions.

Let me ask you this, If I were to trade the game into gamestop instead of Best Buy would it make it less "sleazy" to you?

There is no silent agreement between you and Best Buy concerning trade ins and preorder bonus. It's irrelevant whether he trades it in immediately or goes home, plays a few hours, then trades in after deciding he doesn't like it. It's all the same to Best Buy. The only person left feeling bad about it is you.

Numerous people buy a game from BB, finish it in a week like The Order and trade it in that first week. They're doing it as a low-priced rental, so when they're done with the game, their buy-in on it is minimal. If there's a bonus $10 cert and a steelbook on that purchase, they break even or make money on the deal.

It's their option on what to do with their purchase.

 
Boy, and i thought i'd be stirring the pot with the joke about Slowdive mixing up "Elder Scrolls" and "Oblivion".

I for one would love to hear a recording of AKgamerx pulling an IATCG penny guide fit and call up Best buy corporate to try and make them stop doing $10 bonuses & pre-order bonuses.

I agree. I was merely expanding on the emphasis on "immediately turn around" and trade it in part of akgamerx's post.

Generally speaking (90% of times, that is) I only buy a game to play; but, with witcher, there are multiple things that actually entice me into buying it for trading it in - steel case (BestBuy), witcher comic book (Amazon) & the free witcher strategy guide (Target). Part of me wants all three :) In the end, I am simply going to keep my BestBuy pre-order and shut up about it.

Praying that Dell makes the price mistake again on the CE. Managed to preorder the Unity CE for the normal price of the game at BB. I actually didn't hate Unity and encountered only a few bugs, so it was worth it for that price.

To top it off. Best Buy WANTS you to trade it in. They Pay you 44 (in credit) for it (if you are GCU) and sell it for 55. Thats 11 dollars in profit they wouldn't have if you didnt trade it in. 25% margin on that.

 
Speaking of The Witcher 3 CE, I can't cancel my order from Gamestop.com. Under my order, it just doesn't give the option, but it does under a few of my other orders. What the hell?

I noticed that as well a few weeks back when I was considering cancelling and going with the Xbox One version. You have to call or e-mail them and they will manually cancel it.

It might be working towards being shipped out, as I had an email from my CC company that the charge for my CE copy hit my card this morning. Check to see if there's a charge on your card and if so, it might be too late to cancel it.

 
I had 0 success calling GS, every time I hit the button that correspond to "Gamestop.com online orders" I am brought into on hold limbo. I can pretty much memorize their preorder rant that is playing during the hold time now :wall:

Not really, but still.

I really don't get the confusion. It's not like you went in and stole $44 from Best Buy. You gave them a game worth (presumably) $44, for $44 credit. That $44 in credit is worth less than face value.

So if they forever give you $44 for Witcher 3, you can never trade it in to Best Buy? Or is Best Buy happy to give you $44 for Witcher 3, cause it's more money for them?

Haha, I try to minimize my actual cash money spent as much as possible. If the steelbook was available here in the states instead of a stupid calendar (sorry for those that prefer that option), then I'd be more inclined to buy it ;)

Man I still can't decide about my Witcher 3 CE preorder for PS4. How much of a hassle is it to change payment methods on pre-order? Decision would be easier if I can apply some BB credit to the purchase. Or can I do a return rebuy when I pick it up without losing the $10 cert?

No prime, but only came out to 51.28. Thanks, I appreciate it.

On another note, still don't have a PS4 yet & can't believe I'm buying this game(s) again, it's like the 5th 1/2 time now. But dam that steelbook is beautiful.

Per a memo, stores are supposed to get 2 to 3 extras and can be handed out at the managers discretion.

Keep in mind, that does not mean they have to give them out. They could hold them for replacements for damaged ones etc

At this time we don't have any midnight releases announced for the remainder of 2015, but I do anticipate this will change with some of the big titles coming out. Not even many GS are doing one. Mine is one of the few in STL doing one b/c they have 75 preorders combined for the 2 systems, which I'm told is one of the highest numbers in the entire southeast region, not just district.
