I'd be willing to bet this is to cover their asses in case they fuck it up again a la Monster Hunter World, where one of my orders never did receive a steel (which was the one that was placed day one, and the one placed days before release did get it). Irregardless, there's nothing stopping anyone with a brain from canceling their order and pre-ordering again, which I did last night. My new order reflects the SB and gave me another beta code, which I'll probably end up using for someone I know that wants to play at the last minute once they're missing out as per usual. :roll:

Oh and I love how they sent out that email regarding them giving out the wrong beta codes for your platform, and not to worry -- they'd be sending out the correct ones soon. Yeah, that never fucking happened BB; WTF are you idiots even doing these days?

Well we'll see what happens I suppose but one workaround is to pre-order instore and have the steel shipped, which is always the case with store pickup. You can return the game without being charged unless they finally caught on, but chances are their system is still dumb and allows it. Done this plenty of times after changing my mind on a game that got bad reviews.

Yea that's why I printed the page for my Power Armor one (cant cancel re-order) and have store pickup, I know they will just be sitting in a pile where my BB is so ill just have em toss one in at time of pickup.

Edit:

This is also to cover themselves for their major screw up with the Spiderman codes that just blew up in their faces a few weeks ago.

Yeah I'm still mad about never receiving my Monster Hunter World steelbook from my day1 BB pre-order. I tried, but there were simply none available through shipping or in stores. It often pays to be proactive. When you want things done you have to do them yourself; you've got to go into the store and make a manager add one to your order. Unfortunately in some cases (like MH) they don't even have any extras in the store.

Yeah I agree personally but I know some pretty die hard KH fans out there. I'll stick with my GoW pro myself. (Unless this one comes to the US and I feel like making bad decisions)
 
I've fully embraced the 'collector' aspect of video games, so themed limited edition consoles are definitely an unavoidable part of my reality. I do, at least, keep it restricted to series that I really like and USA releases only. Outside of the collecting aspect, though, I just find most of them to be really damn cool. All of that said, that damn KH3 pro will be my 3rd PS4 Pro and 5th PS4 overall if it comes stateside >_> lol.

 
Don't get me wrong, I love the appeal of the LE consoles.  I totally understand buying one of the 500 mil LEs for 500 bucks.  

At the same time I bought my (Star Wars) pro for only $325 and it's perfectly fine.  At this point in the PS4's life cycle that money would be better spent on your PC or else saved for the PS5.  That's not a small difference; it's over 300 dollars. 

 
If one already has a pro, then getting another one that won't be used is certainly not a 'good' usage of money. No one can argue with that undeniable fact haha. But that's where subjective collecting value--like personal value, not monetary--comes into play and clashes with functional, reasonable value. For instance, I have enough 3DS systems to ensure that an entire football team can play at once, with a few to spare for their kids. Functionally, those stopped being useful 10+ systems ago. But I really like them all, and I'm very happy that I have them. It's a weird spot to be in and clashes with sensibility if one doesn't hold the same or similar values or priorities. 

 
So I just looked at Gamestop’s website to check on my MM11 preorder and they upped the price to the standard $60. The website says the price is subject to change without notice but I don’t believe that is legal. Pretty sure when you agree to a sale that’s it or either party can back out and start over again but you can’t change it after it’s done.

Guess I’ll wait it out and see if they email me about it before just shipping. I would imagine those should start shipping soon.

It's legal. You can always cancel or get your money back. If they didn't allow refunds it would be different.

I never understood this. Why isn't it a good use of money? So I can put $500 more to purchase a more expensive car that I also don't need? To die with $10 million in the bank because I was too frugal? That having literally one more square foot of house would make me that much happier than another PS4?

Dude, you know there are far more rationale arguments and responses than those that you listed, like you absolutely do. Spending $500 for a thing, that is designed to be used, to instead sit on a shelf as window dressing (and may not even go up in value enough to cover eBay fees if it was to be sold later) is not a 'good' use of money. Hell, the only thing that makes an initial PS4 Pro purchase arguably a 'good' use of money is the functionality, as it certainly won't be worth more down the line.

With that $500 one could put that towards a loan that they are paying interest on, as most people have those in some form (car, credit card, mortgage, broad strokes here). One could buy something that they can flip for immediate profit. One could invest in the stock market (short term or day trade). One could bolster their savings for retirement or a larger scale investment that will make them money. Or one could spend it on a different, yet more useful, frivolous commodity (PC upgrade, new TV, vacation, Persian area rug for the living room--something that adds a new experience or function in their lives). There are surely so many more useful ways to use that $500 that CAG's servers would crash were one to attempt to list them all.

I have thousands of dollars in consoles that fall into this 'bad' usage of money category, so I'm not speaking out against it; I just think we should all be reasonable enough to recognize what we are doing.

I completely agree Zaku. I had like 12 3DS systems most of them still sealed and many of them limited edition. One day I just decided that I would never play most of them and sold off about 6 so far. I will keep the ones that I really interested in the theme of it, not just cause its limited. I might sell a few more as I only will play the one that is opened, my son can use another and I can have a couple for backup. I don't really need more than that. Honestly, my love for the 3DS is not that of other systems and I actually play it less than others (even though it was the system I had the most variations of, go figure that out). I just got caught up in collecting various limited edition 3DS systems back in the day.

In my case, I put the money from the sales towards bills instead of having those systems just sitting there in the closet.

The only loans I have balances on are like 1.49% loans, that are more beneficial to drag out due to inflation. Day trading is arguably worse than buying thousands of dollars worth of gaming consoles. Retirement savings has a cap for the beneficial stuff, and it goes into my "dying with $10 million" scenario. I'm not buying a Persian rug because I have an asshole cat (actually, she's fairly great, but she's still cat).

I am having an internal struggle with collecting video game items and consoles.

It has a lot to do with my parents only having enough to buy me 1-2 console games a year when I was growing up in the NES age. Now I have disposal income, and I get a rush from buying.

I often sell a bunch of my collected items near Christmas (most free time and often higher demand). This way I free up some cash and space for things I really want. This is kind of an annual "spring cleaning" that I think all people should do.
 
The bottom line is that the collector's thread and the LRG thread basically go against everything that CAG stands for, and some of us dabble in both worlds.  It's like struggling with a dual identity.  Most people on the site would think everyone in here is weird. 

However, I still think there is a huge difference between collecting things that were purchased at or below MSRP, and buying items that cost an ultra premium. 

It's no big deal.  We all like we like.  It's just fun to talk about sometimes.   I certainly enjoy hearing other people's perspectives; it helps keep my spending in check.  Video games are an endless, infinite wishlist.

I could never collect consoles, it's way too expensive. I stopped keeping (most) games of mine sealed a while ago. I eventually realized that one day I'm going to look at a shelf or hell maybe even an entire room full of stuff I never opened and say what a waste of money that all was. Forbid I get really sick or something I'm gonna wish I had kept that money for something I'd actually need or at least use/consume. So barring some exceptions for like really super rare unique games or games that I love that I can buy an additional copy for, for cheap, I open all my stuff now. Anything I buy, I use, so that immediately takes consoles out because you can't use 10 different PS4 consoles.

IMHO the coolness factor ranking of LE PS4s goes:

1. 20th Anniversary PS4 (grey OG psx)

2. Metal Gear Solid V (import)

3. 500 million PS4 Pro

and in a distant, interchangable fourth and fifth ...

4. Dragon Quest Metal Slime edition (import)

5. Monster Hunter World Pro + controller

Those are the five that I'd want to have for collection purposes!  At least I have one of them.

The bundle. When it first went up it was $50 and that’s the price I ordered it at. Surely they can’t just change the price after an order has been placed? Not without checking with the buyer first I would assume. That would just be udder chaos otherwise. I haven’t received any update to that fact yet and I’m getting nervous. Probably just going to end up cancelling it. Especially if they pull that shenanigan.

Oh yeah I remember that. They put it up for that price then quickly changed it. I was interested in what would happen to those buying it at $50. I figured they would at least notify you about the increase in price. A bit odd.

On collecting expensive stuff: I've spent a pretty penny on NIB games and consoles, but in California, that pales before the price of a room to put them in.

The value is irrelevant since I can't be bothered to ship stuff or arrange meetings with rando buyers. I expect I'll have all this either in a room or a storage unit when I die, and my poor executor will probably sell it as a lot for way under market. Assuming I don't die until I'm old, market price will probably be way down by then because all the demand is from the cohort that grew up with controller-based game consoles.

just my 2 cents.... but I guess if you do need the money, one is more valuable than the other. Like, let's say your fridge breaks down, or your A/C goes up in smoke and you need to replace it or repair it. I can't trade in $3000 in unused consoles for an A/C unit, but I sure can turn in $3000 in unused cash to get my A/C fixed that day. I can also go on vacation, repair my car, etc etc. That's my opinion though. I'd much rather have 1 console and a working A/C than 7 consoles, and no money to repair the A/C.

 
One consideration is you are enslaved to a lifestyle because of all the environmentally-degrading garbage you are collecting, and actually no longer satiated by as soon as you receive it (humans have a hunger/gatherer mentality that extends to desiring physical non-perishable items).

I heard about this from reddit about a week ago. It was highly suspicious and most likely a hail corporate post. It bragged about this game being exactly like old school Command & Conquer, which is what caught my attention at first. When I realized it's the same company who makes Owlboy, I scoffed and never looked back.

The reviews of the PC version are actually somewhat decent, and most mention the similarity to old school C&C. I'm not gonna spend $80 on a CE for it though, and I have a feeling that this may be one of those CEs that drop in price like a rock (ala Elex and Titan Quest).

Is the Spiderman PS4 CE actually limited or rare? I've been eyeing the game since launch yet decided not to buy it with all the preorder craziness, not seeing the statue, and the high price.. Then Best Buy delisted it. In the past week I've walked into gamestop and Best Buy stores and saw copies sitting on the shelf. One Best Buy store has more than 10 copies of the CE readily available.

Does anyone know if the Assasin's Creed Odyssey CE that was Gamestop exclusive was cancelled?  I got a cancellation notice today and I see that the Xbox One listing has been taken down completely.  This is exactly what happened with the GS exclusive Far Cry 5 CE and it was also very close to release.

Not sure. I do know preorders stopped for it about a month ago and it was a $25 deposit required. I skipped it since it didn’t come with the artbook.

I played it on PC, it got stale rather quick for me, wouldn't pay a premium for it

Yes mine got cancelled too for the PS4 version. I called and the lady told me she saw it that it was “ a business decision” she asked her supervisor and was told it it happening to a bunch of people and she escalated it to the backend and will call me tomorrow.

I believe it depends upon the area of the country you're in. I've been trying to find the Spiderman CE since it was released and none of the Best Buys or Gamestops throughout Colorado have it anymore.

That's super weird. The employee at the store I went to today told me to come early on release day as she thinks she'll have extras. So I'm assuming they weren't all cancelled?

I just got an email "Due to a technical error, your order xxxxxxxxxx was canceled by mistake. We have provided a link here so that you can place a new order." only thing is that the link they sent me was for the X1 version and not the PS4 like I ordered. Plus they already took my money and I don't have enough to order a new one.

That's bizarre but enough of an issue that you shouldn't have trouble once escalated to CS I wouldn't think. Sorry that happened. :(

Yeah it sucks, they said they will have an answer tomorrow. There are people on reddit saying they are cancelling it because the game is not supposed to be included but I really don’t believe them.
