It must be based on location - it's been in stock all day every time I've checked and just stopped showing up as being available for shipping.

For $65? I would say so, it comes with the Deluxe Edition, which you could probably sell for $20-30, maybe a bit more. Maybe sell off the easter eggs for $10 or so. In the end, could be $25-35 total for 4 decent statues. I'd say they are around 1/10 scale and build and paint job is pretty good on them. I think I'm most worried about the Chun-Li over time since she's on one leg, but I would hope the reinforced it to prevent it from bending.

 
So what's the collector's edition of the year? I like God of War Stone Mason Edition the most of what I bought.

I liked the Red Dead Box even though wasnt a collectors edition had some interesting stuff in it.

The Cod Mystery box was also one of the cooler ones I got this year.

I really liked the NNK2 CE. The game itself ended up getting mediocre reviews but there was some cool and unique stuff in the CE and it got some really deep sales to boot.

 
It probably wasn't worth the money, but I had some extra money to burn, so I want to nominate the Hitman 2 CE not as the best CE of the year, but the most under the radar good one. It's actually pretty cool. The suitcase is a cool design and I don't know, I just kinda like it.

As for the best? Hmmm... not sure. God of War was pretty cool. AC: Odyssey Pantheon Edition as cool except for the fact that the game didn't come in the box. Sure I'm forgetting some others.

Edit: totally forgot about the Spiderman CE. That's the best one of the year IMO.

It's got an 84% rating on metacritic and 9/10 on most of the bigger sites. It will certainly be in a bunch of top ten lists so not sure where you got mediocre reviews from.

It's got a 5.9 user score on Metacritic. For reference, FFXV (which also had mixed reception) has an 81 on Metacritic and a 7.8 user score. Reviewers seemed to enjoy it more than most of the people I hear talking about it in forums and among my friends. Around the time it came out I read quite a few posts where people thought it was just an okay game.

 
Ok. Why does every fuckin game have to be a dark souls clone. I was so excited for Darksiders 3, then I realized I was dropping my 'souls' everytime I died and had to run the same shit over and over to get back to them or lose them. Way to kill a perfectly good action beat em up series.

Suddenly facing down the barrel of a lawsuit motivates them to do more than offer $5 in space bucks, eh? I may enjoy the game but they're starting to join ranks with Blizzard and EA, which is a shame.

 
Darksiders III takes on SoulsBorne elements just like the prior 2 games take on elements from Zelda, God of War, Diablo, DMC, Portal, etc. It is not a SoulsBorne game.  It has absolutely included some elements from that nascent genre, but only to add it to the list of inspirations, not as a wholesale acceptance of the entire genre. If you liked the prior games blends of genres and ideas, then you can now simply add another one to that list of influences. I find that extremely refreshing and a great addition--just something to keep in mind.

In all fairness, there was a large, large gap between the first two games for much of the design and mechanics, too. I'd say that a lot of the connective tissue that really 'defines' a Darksiders game--since that's not really mechanics, hence the differences between 1 and 2--is still very much there.

was just messing around with you. I'm a person who much preferred the original God of War style combat to the new. I was hoping for something more like that or DMC / Bayonetta style combat.

I just wish we got more games like that period! I'd be okay with them being less complex (like Darksiders) or full on character action games. It's just such a small genre these days. :/

Despite the statue needing some glue and the steelbook getting replaced (both are fine now) I like the Shadow of the Tomb Raider CE.  Most of my CEs ended up pretty good though. God of War, Spider-man, AC Odyssey, and Hitman 2.   

Got Sekiro, Left Alive, Biomutant, and Rage 2 CEs on pre-order for next year.  DMC5 looks like a pass with no steelbook and an 8" car.

Doing the steelbook version of Metro instead of the CE.  250+45 shipping is wayyy too much.

Edit: Anyone familiar with the master swing master sword statues floating around ebay?  They look just like the Breath of the Wild CE sword but have a Skyward Sword box and cost $25-45 which is way lower than the CE statue I missed out on a long time ago.

It's annoying me too... I don't think the steel book says anything on the spine either. Ehhhh may just sell the steel with game and buy vanilla version. Cheaper than buying game and controller separately with gcu

I like the front of the steel, but being no spine name/ art, it will look stupid in my collection. Figure it will sell for more on ebay, and then I can save some money, keep the controller, and buy the vanilla version. At least my Xbox/Ps4 steels have the names on the spine, so I'm cool with them.

I assumed not and that they likely didn't make a ton of copies, I picked one up at BB since with GCU it was around $335 - figure since they are allowing returns until February due to the season, if it drops below what I paid somewhere before then I can just pick it up and return that one to Best Buy while making sure I still have a copy.

Yeah, some reviewer really wanted to play up this Dark Souls aspect. I was so disappointed when I started reading reviews that made it sound like a Dark Souls clone. I like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, but I don't want a Darksiders game to play like either of those. I was surprised to find out it isn't at all. I've put in maybe 3-4 hours so far and I'm still waiting for these Dark Souls comparisons to come to fruition. So far, the only similarity is that souls are used for currency and can be reclaimed from the point of death. That's it. Nothing else resembles Dark Souls in the least. So, all of this "Dark Souls Clone" talk has been about the in-game currency.

I'm still waiting for this game to even get hard. So far, it seems like the difficulty curve is below what I recall from the first games at the point I'm at in the game.

Reviews had me questioning spending this much on a CE since it sounded like this entry may sour my love for the series. So far, it hasn't.

 


The embossing on the Smash box is pretty nice. Too bad it is going to be so rare. My store only got 6 to cover preorders. We got 650 of the vanilla version making it the biggest game launch in years. Even COD these days only has 300-400 across multiple skus at launch. :D

Did you get the Apocalypse edition? If so, how are the statues/wall scroll? Mine is getting delivered today, have to decide if I should crack it open and keep it or not.

I also know they updated the game with a patch a day or two ago that made it easier and made dodging a lot better. I think the way the game came initially people were saying unless you did a perfect dodge you were getting hit and able to be killed in the middle of the animation and that's wha twas causing the difficulty.

This is true but isn't there quite a few Switch steelbooks like that now? Don't get me wrong as I hate it myself just feel like its almost the normal for steelbooks now days.

Mine is getting delivered today, too.

I wonder if it was patched before I played it. I haven't found the game to be difficult at all (so far).
