NO! NNNOOOOO! *Ghost Recon preorder flashback*

The overcharge on shipping and destroy packages. I do not understand why these companies use them. I also don't understand how they stay in business. Some of the decisions businesses make just blow my mind sometimes. How can there be such a lack of common sense and awareness?
Whats wrong with Digital River?

I've honestly never heard of them until now. Did they fuck up a lot of orders or something? Make multiple charges on a card? What?
They are just really bad... at a lot of things.

I know they handle the Capcom Store, THQ Store and Namco store among others.

Often times they won't ship items until a week after release which is misleading because they will print the packing label and send you a shipping confirmation e-mail days before the item actually leaves the warehouse.

It is also a gamble as to if they will care enough to pack the item properly. I've had steelbooks (MvC3) placed underneath the guides and arrive flattened. I've also had small items placed in oversized boxes and large items stuffed into boxes too small.

I will admit they have gotten better on the above two fronts; most items seem to arrive during the release week (I actually got RE: ORC before it released) and they seem to be paying more attention to packing items properly.

However they may have the worst customer service I have EVER EVER had to deal with. It took over two months before they finally authorized a return and paid out on a damaged item.

I had to make a dozen phone calls and e-mail as well as flat out threaten to open a chargeback before they approved the return.

Does anyone know how limited the dead or alive 5 ce (ps3) is? Can I wait on a possible price drop for doa 5 or do gamestop exclusive ce's usually sell out pretty fast?

I don't remember. Does Digital River charge when the preorder is placed or when it ships (like they rightfully should)? I'm on the fence on the Ni no Kuni special edition and DR's the only vendor for it.

My experience with Gamestop exclusive CEs (Ninja Gaiden 2 & Ass Creed 2) tells me that it will sell out, and will certainly never see a price drop. You 'may' get lucky and be able to buy a gutted one that they've converted to used down the line. Not a very nice gamble to take.

So once the Wizard's Edition goes on sale at Amazon and ships from them, should I still be worried, or does DR send it out to all retailers?

It's a Namco Bandai store exclusive. No Amazon or other retailers.

FFS That question has been asked and answered easily a half dozen times in the newegg deal thread that is so popular right now. YES all first print copies are that artbook edition, capiche?
would the newegg.com last story come with the art book and all too?, if i pre ordered from there?
No. That's just the standard version. The CE with the Artbook is a Namco Bandai Store Exclusive and is $40 more.
Edit: Oh don't know if you are talking about Ni No Kuni or not

oh ok then sorry i asked.

Man, I'm glad I saw this. I kept thinking it was Europe only and would have to sit and wait until some UK retailers listed it.

Too bad Namco uses Digital River. I fucking hate drop-shippers... high shipping cost, shitty quality packing and they charge tax in pretty much all states.

Do they charge immediately? Has anyone had experience with their CE packaging?

DAMMIT! Why do they use Digital River and charge me $11 in TAX on top of $10 shipping! WTF NAMCO! As if Digital River shady ass operation is actually going to send my state that $10. They'll pocket it for themselves. Total scam.
Lucky Europe. I doubt we get anything like this:
You DO realize you can order things from overseas and the PS3 is REGION FREE, right?

Moot point anyway, since its for NA as well.

$120 w/shipping + tax for the wizards edition. x_x I will have to sit on this, hopefully it wont sell out by the time I make up my mind.
You DO realize you can order things from overseas and the PS3 is REGION FREE, right?

Yes, I'm fully aware. I have imported many games from both the UK and Asia. I replied to someone else earlier as well...I just really wanted to buy a NA CE to show these game companies there is a market for them here since we don't get many RPG CEs (Like Tales of Graces f). You replied to my post I made before I was aware that it was also coming to the US. I already placed a pre-order for the NA version :D
Do they charge immediately? Has anyone had experience with their CE packaging?
Very bad experience. My Dead Rising 2 was badly damaged since they use zero packing material
Very bad experience. My Dead Rising 2 was badly damaged since they use zero packing material
Thanks for the feedback, I may pass on this deal then. As much as I would like to get that book, I am not sure I want to pay $120 for a dented up item.

Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones, but I've never had a problem with digital river. Bought MvC3 SE (slip and Steelbook mint), resident evil: orc with metal sign (both items mint), and some other items like bubble buds, and figures from Capcom.

lol ni no kuni is made by level 5 + studio ghibli. if u don't like the character design then im guessing u don't like studio ghibli movies -its ok if u don't-.
im getting it just because its ghibli, and their layout/environment art is amazing. for me this game is like an interactive ghibli movie aka dream come true.
Should I give a crap about Ni No Kuni? It looks gorgeous, but I don't like the character design at all. The game also doesn't really look interesting at all. It seems like all the hype is just over the graphics.
I REALLY want that Wizard edition. The problem is if I buy something direct from a publisher that is very limited and rare, I won't open it. I might have to buy two. :(

I already tried but it's apparently limited to one. I would try to make another account and order another but I dont want to chance getting any cancellations.

If there wasn't DLC involved I may be inclined to open it.

If you only get one will you be opening it?
What is up with namco's store? Anyone having trouble with it? I'm trying to create an account and it says my "email.emailExists" and won't let me proceed. I tried to do the 'forgot password' function incase I already had an account that I forgot about, but I don't and it says my login is invalid, which is expected.

I'm leaving the Account Login info blank like it says to, but it still isn't working.

EDIT: Nevermind. Apparently I had to use a different email account. I guess it didn't like my Hotmail account.

By the way, thx for the heads up on the Namco exclusive!
I got that error too with a gmail account.

I went ahead and coughed up the $122 due to tax and shipping to buy it from Club Namco. I am a hardcore Ghibli and RPG fan. Just could not pass this up.
If there wasn't DLC involved I may be inclined to open it.

Yeah probably. If it ends up rare though I'll just rebuy the standard version and keep the CE sealed.

Really want the Ni No Kuni CE. Only problem is other instances of store exlcusive CEs have yielded either big sales on the CE or overall discounts. Space Marine was half off on black friday (though its back at 100) and the Dead Rising 2:HSE on the capcom store ended up being clearanced.

Dead Space, Crysis 2, and KOA all have held or gone up a ton based on limited availability though.
NO! NNNOOOOO! *Ghost Recon preorder flashback*
*Phoenix Wright 3 preorder flashback*

^ This is why I'm skipping this one. I'm afraid they'll charge, then cancel my order, then ship and charge again before they get it straightened out. Then I'll have 2 $125 charges on my card... $36 isn't nearly as bad.

Anyone have any experience ordering directly from Ubisoft? Thinking about ordering the AC III CE, but not sure how well they ship it.

Also, I don't see anywhere on the site that says you won't be charged until it ships, so I assume you pay full price when you order?

TIA.

Ubisoft store is handled by digital river
Do they charge immediately? Has anyone had experience with their CE packaging?
There's a pre-authorization but they don't charge until they ship. And as I said in my last post, their packing is shit.

I ordered from them twice and both times, they stuck my item in one corner of a huge box and threw in a few pieces of air bubbles, but not enough to hold the item in place. One of the items was a plush so it wasn't damaged, but the other item was some collectors edition (can't remember what- but it was from Capcom). During transit, the item was basically moving around in the box and kept crashing into the unprotected corner. The item was fucked up in that one corner, and the front/backs were scuffed up all all hell.

And this includes a 300 page book. All that weight means the item will be handled very carelessly.

So, I really want to buy the CE for Ni No Kuni, but from what I'm hearing Digital River sucks...

My question is should I pass on getting this CE because of that? I don't want my $120 CE beat to hell while shipping, but I really want that book.

I wonder if it would be helpful for a number of us to contact Namco and the gaming media and express our concerns with Digital River handling this. While I'm sure they won't change vendors, perhaps they could create factory packaging (kind of like the Bioshock 2 shipping box with he padded inserts that allowed the game box to float away from the corners or edges of the shipping box) that is secure that DR could literally just label and send out.
Ubisoft store is handled by digital river
If he's talking about the UbiWorkshop ACIII CE, with the encyclopedia and comic compilation, I believe that ships directly from Ubisoft in Canada. I haven't received anything from them, but I did order the CE, and they charged immediately.

I had previously ordered the encyclopedia itself, and when I cancelled that order, they refunded via Paypal. They said that was the only way they could refund more than 60 days out.

Hmm, maybe the consumerist? Someone could start an anti DR thread in general gaming, we could compile our stories, and send them in. Let the public decide for themselves

I you're in the US I'd be careful about that edition. It may be French and/or bi-lingual, plus the other items should be available to buy separately.

That's the edition listed in the OP, right?

Is there another CE edition for US customers that looks better?

This is what it says on the UbiWorkshop page for the CE:

Please note that the game, both the XBOX 360 and PS3 version, will work in EVERY region. The game can be set in English, French, Spanish and Brazilian. The books are solely available in English.

As of right now, MSRP on everything would be $60 for the game, $50 for the encyclopedia. and $20 for the first comic collection. The second comic series isn't collected yet. So $100 shipped is a pretty decent deal if you're interested in this stuff.

We'll see if we get a separate CE through stores like the Europeans get.
