FAQ:
  • What is this thread? A massive collection of limited edition games & other attributing items, included with links.
  • Why put it all in one thread? More traffic due to collaborating interests.
  • Why is that important? This keeps the thread popular and doesn't risk a failed CE from falling through the cracks unnoticed.
  • What can be discussed here? Anything relevant to what is posted.
  • Why make another CE compilation when 2017 isn't over yet? Karma.
  • Where are the big pictures? Still here, scroll down. Due to the increased number of CEs, a preface post is needed.
  • When is the Ni No Kuni 2 CE coming out? Not announced. Granted, IF it does, you can bet I will devote an entire page to it.  Announced. Holy jumping pilgrims, no entire page though.
  • What about other CEs that have been announced? Give me a minute. It takes a bit of time to format the title, price, date, & retailer links in correctly.

Legend:
  • (OOS) = Out of Stock
  • CE = Collector's Edition Game
  • Book = Strategy Guide, Art Book, and/or Lore Book
  • SB = Steelbook
  • Anything linked means it exists. If not it hasn't been announced yet.

Woke up to a delay email for my copy of XC2 SE from BB. Leave for a work trip Monday and was hoping to take this with me, disappointing.

Wondering if I should order a second copy JIC while it shows available this morning, can return whichever one shows up last.

Edit:

And about an hour later I get a shipment notification from BB .. oh well, will just return the 2nd copy (which is already too far along to cancel).   Still annoying I won't have for my trip next week.

You're missing the point. The point is that subjective reviews are pointless and stupid, as you point out with the examples used in your post. e.g. favorite pizza? We all have our own opinions. In my case, the word 'objective' was used to denote the 'opposition to subjective reviews'.

There are plenty of descriptions that you can be objective about while reviewing a video game. Such as: how sophisticated are the graphics? How well does the game run, technically? How well-composed is the music? How strong is the narrative? How good are the controls and the sense of immersion? How strong is the multiplayer? Is it a 'complete' game? Considering its substance, does it feel like good value for its msrp? How does the game's system compare to other games in the same genre? How much polish does the final version have? Descriptive answers to these questions all align much closer to the objective side of things.

Reviews should absolutely be objective (in the generic sense). This isn't an argument over semantics; I understand that video game reviews can't be 'objective' in the literal sense. I've always found Kotaku's review system, and their smarmy, hipster take on standard reviews to be absurd. They can't even be bothered to recommend games (or not) in their reviews anymore, which in itself was laughable to an extent that for years they reviewed video games in binary: with a + or - you should, or shouldn't, play it. As if the worth of all games exist in binary. Now their reviews are nothing more than diary entries or a few paragraphs of a blog which is not helpful in the least, unless you know and care about that particular reviewer. Their new release reviews are no different from any of the other blogs posted daily to their website. Which I read for fun, but not when I'm looking for a video game review.

Sure, giving a game an arbitrary 8 out of 10 for graphics is subjective. But then going on to explain how you unbiasedly arrived at that conclusion, is not.
Am I the only person that noticed you said that a reviewer's opinion of a game's soundtrack can be seen as objective? It leads me to believe you genuinely do not understand the difference between something subjective and objective. If you believe games are art then any critique will always be subjective, the same as a movie or a book.

Not really a CE but video game related.  You know you want one.

Update on Axiom Verge Multiverse Edition for Wii U (US)

https://twitter.com/AxiomVerge/status/936640537934704640
I have to say these guys are awesome for still making this happen, but damn, a "delay" for the Wii U? Really? I would think every second counts in the race to get that version released, so they better get moving ASAP! LOL

Yeah and actually finish it this time. That would be a CE I'd pay $500 for.
For sure. I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been a development company that has come along and made a bunch of high-quality retro-style 16 and 32bit sprite RPGs. New games like Radiant Historia. Someone could come in and capitalize on this niche and make a ton of money making FF6, Chrono Trigger, Mana, and Xenogears-like games. People would pay $40-50 for modern, high-quality SNES rpg new releases on Switch and PS4.

I think that is entirely the reason we got Bravely Default games and are getting Octopath Traveler. I just wish someone besides SE would get on it and really knock it out of the park.

That's basically Cosmic Star Heroine and sales wise it was a disappointment on PS4. I Am Setsuna was considered too expensive at $40, and same with Lost Sphear at $50 even with physical release.

Well Lost Sphear hasn't been released physically in NA yet; it comes out in Jan '18. That's exactly what all of these games have in common. These games are missing their target markets completely by not having NA physical releases. People have been anxiously awaiting Cosmic Star Heroine's release over in the LRG thread for over a year. Lots of people also imported I am Setsuna.

Take a look at Atlus' portfolio. They are doing good, honest work with this type of strategy. If companies aren't going to market or release physical games in the west then of course they aren't going to do well.

*shrug* I played the Lost Sphear demo at SDCC and I couldn't finish the demo, because of how slow paced it was. There was never a line for it either, and I never saw anyone finish the demo. It's just average all around.

The Japanese release of Lost Sphear sold like 20% of the copies, meaning it's going to be one of those titles that drop to $10 in a couple of months. It's already almost 50% off 6 weeks after release.

Edit: Used copies of Lost Sphear is already at 25% MSRP.

Are we talking about the same Atlus that released The Caligula Effect digitally?

Cosmic Star Heroine will probably move around 6,000-7,000 copies physically, and this is why you don't see those types of games anymore.

Went to pick up my Special Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 at Gamestop ...

Giant crease down the middle of an otherwise beautiful box.  Something heavy was obviously set upon it.  Both circle seals on top AND bottom were broken (slit open).  Nothing is missing, but needless to say -- I'm less than happy.

[attachment=28875:DCIM_372932.jpg]

Never thought I'd be glad to get rid of this flippageddon credit; I would have never purchased from Gamestop in the first place.

That's not gamestops problem it's a ups problem. Gamestop employees are a lot of times given damaged goods cause ups employees stack them and throw em around cause it's not their job to handle it with care. Time is money. Gamestop is just another stop for ups truck to come and deliver stuff to so it's not gamestops problem.

That is very true, but those damaged items could be returned to there point of origin for a refund or credit. So if GS gave a damn, they could take any and all damages that arrive, and notify Atlus, Nintendo, etc that their shipment included damages, and they would have to take them back. Unless of course there is a damage allowance in their dealings(which is more than likely the case), then they would be stuck.

Either way, the buck stops at GS. If they are accepting damaged goods, and selling them at full retail cost, that is bad business. They of course don't care, as they are the only game in town and know as much, so they do what they want. I personally wouldn't have accepted an item in such condition without some form of discount.

But their whole business model is based on "here and now", so they know most consumers aren't going to bother looking elsewhere. So they treat them like crap, which is nothing new, and what we all know if and when we choose to shop there.

Nintendo Exec 1:
"Hey Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is looking to clock in at over 100 hours on average playtests. Do you think we should make a strategy guide to sell along with it? The game is going to be a big seller, and it would be released during peak holiday sales season. JRPG guides sell especially well, studies show."

Nintendo Exec 2:
"Nah, we don't need MORE money."

No, it was more like "Hey, remember that huge 500-Page Xenoblade Chronicles X Guide we did that sold 100 copies?  Should we take this huge game we're barely getting out in 2017 and spend the time and money on another guide?"

They made the right choice focusing on getting the localization done and making an awesome Special Edition.

Eh, it's hard to say, really. I see employees in many different Gamestop's mishandling, improperly stacking, storing, etc on a nearly constant basis. As someone that's extremely OCD with condition, like even a small indent in the cover art and it's getting replaced, I really notice these things. So it could totally have come in damaged, but an employee could just as easily have messed it up, too.

In fairness, the last CE strategy guide (Xenoblade Chronicles X) was a massive disappointment.

I get guides for the art, but I also want them to have useful information.

Nothing on the SE store in regards to a Secret of Mana CE. The physical is a Gamestop exclusive as Arsenalcrazy8 already posted. So Im curious if we will get one in the states.

Just wanted to take a moment and give a shout out to Best Buy for their stellar shipping practices.

Shipped my two copies of Axiom Verge Multiverse Edition in a bubble mailer, to which they came destroyed.

fuck you fam and your shit shipping practices.  Stupid motherfuckers.

Target is really the only store that doesn't ship shoddily anymore.

Best Buy's box to bubble mailer envelope is still better than Gamestop and Amazon though. At least for me.

Amazon is like 99% bubble mailer now.

Gamestop has regressed to brown glue envelopes.

Lesser of evils I guess.

Sadly the truth

Gamestop does a good job shipping too.  Best Buy also ships big-box things well.

All three of my Xenoblade 2 CEs from BB came in individual boxes filled with plastic air bubbles.  All three arrived in excellent condition.

Anything G2 sized is going to come in a bubble mailer from any of these retailers and that's just the way it is.   First class shipping goes by the ounce, is capped at 13oz, so boxes make it cost a lot more.  You should do in-store pickup for amaray case sized orders if it's a concern of yours.

I don't logically understand how the people that pack shit to be shipped can be so dumb, ESPECIALLY at Best Buy.  Amazon is hit and miss.  I've gotten a paint pen in a box with bubble packets and then I have gotten a Collector's Edition game in a plastic mailer smashed to hell.  Just don't see how stupid people can be.

You are assuming that people are allowed to use their judgment in these scenarios. Amazon has an automated system that instructs the warehouse workers as to what packaging to use. Even if the choice seems ridiculous, they can't override it. Best Buy at this time of year generally brings in contractors from UPS and other companies who physically work in their warehouses to package up orders and those individuals are looking to maximize carrier margins by skimping on packaging size and weight wherever possible. As others have pointed out, most consumers don't care too much as long as the product arrives safely and isn't too smashed up. Some crushing, dents and dings are not deal breakers for most customers and it's not just the packaging itself that is sometimes an issue. I have received plenty of well packed items that were obviously damaged in the packing process or were damaged when originally received by the retailer. In short, no retailer is perfect and most don't care about "collectors" who are a small minority of all consumers, so if condition is super important to you, you will need to order from a retailer with a physical location where you can choose your copy.

To be fair, the box that the multiverse edition comes in is A) flimsy as hell and B) not worth keeping anyways.

Target is really the only store that doesn't ship shoddily anymore.

Best Buy's box to bubble mailer envelope is still better than Gamestop and Amazon though. At least for me.

Amazon is like 99% bubble mailer now.

Gamestop has regressed to brown glue envelopes.

Lesser of evils I guess.
lol Amazon shipped me 3 dash buttons today in a bubble envelope that could fit 100 of them. They waste so much shipping product.

I got mine in store at Gamestop and it was damaged pretty badly as were all the other copies I've seen of it. Typical cheap box with the typical issues.

BB apparently shipped my XC2 Special Edition without telling me, I got it today and ofcourse it was on a bubbler mailer...

It's not fully squashed but the sides are F'd

So I guess I'll be keeping the Gamestop vanilla Copy I picked up in rage friday  :whistle2:

It's because the person packing your CE is most likely an overworked warehouse worker who is getting yelled at by their supervisor about "quotas". They, the individual worker, simply do not have the time, patience, or care to make sure your item gets packaged pristinely.

It's no excuse for shitty shipping business practices, but please don't pretend that its the game developers themselves who pack these boxes lol.

Not blaming Game Devs at all lol.

The two Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Special Edition came in on Friday from Amazon & Best Buy. Both are perfect, even the controller was snug in the same box with 3-4 bubble pads. The Xenoblade 2 Collectors Edition from Amazon DE is coming in tomorrow and I'm expecting the same result hopefully. The 2nd Special Edition order was an oversight that I forgot to cancel, but I sold it to someone already.

Sadly Target is not free from this kind of stuff as well. Last month they shipped a Blu-Ray I ordered in a vinyl baggie with no protection whatsoever. No bubble mailer, no cardboard mailer - a literal vinyl bag. Luckily the item itself survived the trip with minimal damage (there was some bending in the case but nothing I couldn't replace).

I laughed out-loud at this one^, it works great for small individual Vita games. If I ever got anything else shipped this way, I would probably take that package and go to the nearest store and beat everyone with it. LOL As that method would crush any LE before it left the warehouse.

As others have stated, this is out of the hands of those in shipping. As most shipping facilities work on numbers per day, and not quality of shipping. An envelope is 100% faster than a box, always! As there is no tape needed. You pull a tab, seal it and it's off. 100 bubble mailer items is going to take a lot less time than 100 boxed shipped items, and that's the reality.

Of course any business want's to minimize damages, as that cuts in to profits. But out side of a few games I get from amazon, and the occasional book, condition is never an issue for most things. So Amazon takes a loss for a few of my items out of the year, but considering my overall volume of orders, they win most often.

To be fair, the box that the multiverse edition comes in is A) flimsy as hell and B) not worth keeping anyways.
Yeah, I stated this a while back, as my first order from Amazon arrived in a box, and I was thrilled to see it.......until I opened it. Both where lightly smashed, and the shipping box was fine. So they may have slammed together within the box(although there was light protection), or they where smashed before they went in. Just holding the game box, I could feel how thin it was, and if someone just grabbed a copy from a shelf with a light grip, it could be smashed. I'm glad this got a physical release, as it's a great game, but Badlands should look in to better boxes for future releases.

My curse Castilla for Vita came yesterday from Play-Asia, and one end of the box was dented, and I got scared. But the game box was perfect, and a tank to boot. If anyplace wants to look at how to do things right, look no further than PA and their LE releases. Their CS is often ass, but they do take the need of that away with proper shipping and durable contents. I've only ever had orders lost, but none have ever arrived damaged, and that's coming from Asia in the littlest of shipping boxes.

Best Buy always packages my stuff thoughtfully, as does Target. Amazon has the most retarded packers in the world that I'm convinced pack things incorrectly on purpose just to meet a quota. Can't tell you how many times they boxed an item that could have been bubble mailed and vice versa. Can't speak to GS; I've never ordered from them.

Secret of Mana physical copy, exclusive at Gamestop, up for PO.

I reserved mine, but may cancel if it doesn't sell out.

As a matter of fact, I already own Secret of Mana, complete in box, with the official Nintendo strategy guide (which is black and white for some reason).

LINK: https://www.gamestop.com/collection/secret-of-mana

I'll leave now.

EDIT: Dear God, looking at the graphics for that game, what a crap job. Looks like some cheap free to play mobile game. WTF.

I don't know what I want to do with this game. I never played the original back on the SNES and really never had a ton of interest. But I figured with a remake, it'd be worth checking out. But, yeah, the graphic style does look very rote like a F2P mobile game, I'm afraid. I just hope the story makes up for the look. I just know some consider it a classic. Really torn.

I had it on the SNES back in the day, and while it looked great, I didn't care for the game. I tried to play it a few times, and could never get in to it. And yeah, I agree it now looks pretty bad, especially along side the original.
