Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

Took me 9 hours on Hardcore (my first playthrough). A lot longer on Insane, but I didn't time it. Definitely in-between 10-15 hours on Insane (and this is after I knew how the campaign folds out!).

And, I would guess it would take a lot longer if you didn't do co-op. So yeah, 1up is not really that full of shit since I'm really good at games and someone else might take longer.
 
I demand that all games tell you how long you've played it. Microsoft published games are the worst offenders of not telling people how long they've played it.

Man was excited about this game but after seeing Xplay's Special Coverage of it has made me stoked for this game. I'm really glad you can set up bot matches, since my internet is good but not great, I'll be using this a lot. Also can't wait to play horde mode as well!:bouncy:

Speaking of bot matches, I may be asking for a lot here, but is it possible to play say, co-op split-screen vs. bots and gain multiplayer achievements for doing so?

Wow, I count a total of 4 achievements worth a total of 40 points that require public matches. So I can play offline and get all the other achievements? If this is true I'm amazed. Finally a developer has listened to Microsoft's recommendations and cut back on the online-only achievements.

Also, another achievement-related question. Forgive me if this has been covered earlier in the thread but are the story difficulty achievements stackable or do you have to play each mode individually like in GoW1?
 
This has been asked a million times I know but I am seriously pressed for time (working 5am to 10pm everyday for the last couple weeks) what is the best deal for this.

I dont have time to research. I dont plan on doing a midnight release because I have simply to much work going on right now.

Someone point me in the right direction?

Also if my local target has GOW2 for sale right now I think I will just go buy it.

Oh he isnt alone. I thought GoW 1 single player was pretty good but the MP was complete ass. That shit was horrid.

I cant believe you guys could even enjoy that circule strafe shotgun orgy.

It was very good minus that. That didn't become a huge problem until later in the life cycle though, and it wasn't that hard to find matches where people didn't think the shotgun and A button were the only features in the game.

When people started rolling around with shotty's I just find a new match.
 
Gears of War 1 was Great, and 2 should even be better with the Party System

I played GOW1 online alot, 12,000 Kills (got seriously acheivment) it was the BEST online exsperience before COD4 came out
 
I agree. Gears of War campaign is the most fun I've ever had. However, Gears of War online Multiplayer is just complete bullshit. It's fun, I'll admit, but at the same time, it's clunky -- turning around is slow, aiming is slow, but the cover system works great. Coming from a complete different side of the spectrum like CoD4, apparently in Gears of War, you need to either

A. aim for the kneecaps and get them down
B. aim for the head

In real life, this is probably realistic since legs are probably the weakest point second to the head. But at the same time, based on other FPSs, etc.. aiming purely for the legs are mostly for noobs who really don't know how to aim (new players to the FPS world need to see where they are walking, so they look at the floor, which is why most aim for the legs). In Gears of War, it's different. Multiplayer is great on Gears, but it's not for me. I love the cover system, but it's just too slow. I like something more fast-paced like CoD4.

If I buy GoW2, it'll mainly be for the single player, sometimes multiplayer though just to get a break from other fast-paced FPSs.

You know, I thought the same thing until I found out that if you press in any direction + A Button at the same time, you will immediately turn/move in that direction.

Even behind you, works great. Slam the stick back and press A at the same time and you are suddenly facing behind you.
 
really? hot damn! I'd go online and try it out, but I just sent my 360 out to Microsoft like an hour ago. But yeah. Hopefully the new GoW2 single player blows people's minds, which it will.
 
My 360 has been locking up more and more in the past few days. I don't think I'll be playing Gears 2 for a while :cry:

My first console red ringed the day before the launch of the first Gears, so I'm guessing my luck is just bad enough that it's going to happen again for Gears 2...
 
Just got an Amazon shipping email, saweet, can't wait. Of course I used the super saver shipping so I'll prob get it 2-3 days after release.

My console died 2 days before Gears also. Was the start of a bad string of console deaths. Had 3 since.

My system froze a few times during Fallout 3, but I think it will hold up.

If it shipped out that early, you could possibly get it on launch date or on Saturday if they shipped it through USPS.

I have work all day so I won't be able to hop on until Friday evening, but do any CAGs want to do an entire co-op turbo run? I would like to do the single player first before getting my ass handed to me in multi.

Yeah are there any common early leaks... I'd buy it even though I paid it off with flip credit from BB..
 
I'm picking this up midnight at my local Gamecrazy, this is definitely one of my most anticipated games of the year.

Add me to the super-excited list!
 
I don't see where this is answered so, Why a Friday release date, seems like most games are released on Tuesday and in stores by Weds? However it does workout with my work schedule get off early on fridays so I can get it day one and have all weekend to play.
 
Normally games are in stores Tues. They most likely did it so people could play it over the weekend, and tues is veterans day so some places may not be open
 
The ending was kind of...lame. Definitely leaves it open for a 3rd. I, along with 3 of my friends, did a run through this past weekend and it was just more than we expected. Well done E.P.I.C.
 
I think I'm going to hit my local Walmart later on the off-chance that they broke the street date. This is a small enough town that I doubt anyone would know/care if they break street date.

Wal-mart's computer systems usually comes up with a note saying do not sell and won't let the machine process the transaction until release date on items like this though.

So you may want to try another store.

I was at Best Buy last night and asked if they would be matching CC's 1600 point card (as I was canceling my preorder there). They said yes as long as CC has both game and cards in stock.

Unless your BB manager is really nice this probably won't fly at the midnight release. They'll say it won't work because they can't call CC to verify stock.

Sucks this comes out tomorrow night and CoD5 monday night. That's way to close together but oh well i'll play a ton this weekend and then dive head first into CoD5. Unless the MP hooks me hard, I was without net for awhile when Gears came out and by the time I got my net back it was all glitchers and retards playing so I moved onto a more realistic shooter. SP was a good times extravaganza though!
