Gears 1 was #1 until Halo 3 came out. Gears 2 has barely broken the top 10 since its launch. CliffyB admitted that the game's netcode was garbage. I just hope that means they're going to fix it.

Let's be for real. As far as console gaming is concerned, all the online games have something broken that has never been fixed (see MW2, BC2, etc). Most of them also receive new content all the time as well.

First off, this is a video game not real life. If it was real life, every game would be one shot kills since a body shot in real life would drop someone. As for other games, the shotgun has never worked like a real shotgun. Battlefield, in example, I can't count the amount of times I have been killed with a headshot across the map with a SPAS shotgun. Again, it is a game so I deal with it. With Gears (when I was playing it), I learned to use the shotgun to my advantage.
 
If anyone is interested in playing Horde or doing some versus let me know. I'm going to get this add on pack soon. Just looking to play though, I couldn't care less about achievements unless they are reasonable.

Except for a few map achievements which require 40 or 50 rounds, most are just 10-20 which isn't bad. Versus, not much. My lag is terrible which has killed versus for me. I'd like to try it out again though.

Started high for a week or two until everyone realized that MP was jacked up. Mostly 5th-7th I think and consistently behind Halo 3, CoD4, CoDWaW, L4Dead.

I think the release notes for this patch actually said they increased the range of the shotgun. Which is insane to me, as the shotgun is every "good player's" primary weapon.
 
I was a diehard Gears 1 fan...i played 3 to 4 hours every night, and 7 to 8 hours on weekends. The hilarity and mayhem was just too much fun.

Then Gears 2 comes out, they try to make it tactical and it takes all the fun out of the game...and they're STILL updating the game. Are you fucking kidding me? I, too, will be sitting on the fence for Gears 3. If reports come out stating that it's closer to gears 1, i'm in..otherwise, fuck that, son.
 
I thought Gears 1 was mediocre at best online. I like Gears 2 a lot more. Guess it's just personal preference.

But man, Gears players are assholes. In the 7 hours or so that I played, my rep went from 80% positive down to 76%, which is a large drop. It had to have either been people who I killed or teammates who got pissed when I had a bad game, because I didn't even use my headset (not that I talk shit anyway) and I never quit a game or anything.

that's exactly what happened to me when I start playing this online (post horde mode), granted this was my first xbox live game. also after the new ranking system, my rep went from high 80s/low 90s to below 40% (over the course 18+ months) :applause:

even after playing other online games TF2, MW2, etc my rep doesn't change much

I was the same way with GOW 1 played mostly player matches and bought GOW 2 LE on day 1 sold it a month later. :bomb:
But I just '' re-bought'' it through goozex because of the free dlc

I guess you missed my point in being and that is HOST ADVANTAGE. You don't get host advantage in mw2, halo 3 or any other game. If you're host fine, but you don't get special advantages like being able to do and take more damage than normal and you can get to the power weapons faster and such. Only in gears of war 2 does this happen and i've been gaming for such a long time. They did a really lousy job on this one. It's a good game that has gone bad and that is why alot of people don't play it because they get frustrated playing against someone who has host and there are alot of bullshit calls. The game is unbalanced.
 
All that stuff they keep talking about with Gears 3 makes me think it is going to be just like the second one. They really just keep fucking shit up. First they messed up Unreal Tournament after making a near perfect game in 2004 and now they continue to fuck up Gears.
 
i got to level 92 last night. yeah the lag is still horrible. i was in a match and my shogun bullets hit the wall right as i shot, yet when i tossed a frag it came out a second late.

yeah im officially done with gears 2. i just played 2 ranked guardian games full of horrible lag. the last game i would see people shooting, take cover behind a wall, and then id get hit. i dont feel like playing social anymore either, even if i am host. dont like having four bots as team mates while facing a team of all human players.

bring on gears 3, as long as they fix the lag/host issues.
 
You could play horde instead if you really want to reach 100. My connection is slower DSL, but I sometimes have lag of 2 to 2.5 seconds. Try a shotgun battle against the host like that.
 
horde is ok....but it can get boring. i might try that. i have dsl too. i only need four achievements in gears 2. the hardest one is beating it on insane, the rest i can get easy. burn 25 beastrider things, kill 100,000 enemies and reach level 100. i should try to beat insane first, if i cant get that then why bother doing the rest.
 
If you can't beat Gears 2 on insane you should give up on trying to get all the achievements on all shooters =P

If you start getting shot just duck behind cover. Other than that there is maybe 2-3 actual hard parts but if you keep trying you'll get through it.
 
well im so close to 100 it will be easy to get it, just takes time. as for beating it on insane i havent really tried many levels yet. i know a couple spots have given me trouble.
 
alright so i only need the last act on insane. i went through 3 acts i think tonight and had a few random people join. ill probably do the last act tomorrow, thats if i can get past flying the reaver part. if anyone wants to join and help me out, you're welcome to jump in.

alright ibeat it on insane, the reaver was a lot easier than i thought it would be. i also burned 25 bloodmounts. so only thing i need is kill 100,000 enemies...which i think im around 32,000. then get to level 100, currently im at 92. so back to the game that i said i was officially done with. lol

how do you do the counter meatflag move. ive only heard about it, but today someone actually did it to me. its where you go to pick up a meat shield, but they kill you when you try to pick them up. any tips will help.

You're at 92 and only 32,000! I thought I might get to 100,000 kills one day, but I guess not. I'm around 25 and 5,000. Would Horde be the fastest way to reach 100,000?

I am pretty sure that is a glitch and I killed somebody that tried to pick me up once and I didn't do anything special.

The fastest way to get 100k kills is replaying the first 30-60 seconds of the Brumark (spelling?) part of the campaign. I did that for about 2 hours a night for a week while listening to music and I had the achievement way back in January '09.

I just hit level 50 and I have 33,000 kills. Maybe because I played a ton of horde before the ranking system? Then again, I've also gone through the game on insane and only need the co-op achievements. I've given up on the 100k kills and the 10 submission meatflags. I've got one and I can never get a team competent enough to go any further.

I got 2 submission meatflags within an hour. Luckily, I had some great teammates. Like when they grab the meatflag, I go into escort cover mode with my shotty. Then when my chance comes up to grab the human flag, I quickly ask for backup. It works well only with a good competent team though. Also helps if you're good with your pistol. Keep them back; don't zoom with the pistol, and keep moving. good luck.

aside: I've also noticed that with title update #6, meatshields are now weaker, and you'll tend to die with them. probably a better balance though, cause the way they had it before was almost like having two lives. LOL, those good o'days.
 
But 7th can finally get it, LOL.

I won't even get to 50, most likely. I went from level 15 to level 24 in 6-7 hours of play during 3x XP. With a whole week, I hope I can level up for future achievements (when I beat Horde).
 
hell yeah, someone on my 360 told me 6X XP was coming and i couldnt be more excited. im level 93 and with 6X the XP, it should take me about 3-4 days to reach 100. then all i would need is the seriously 2.0 achievement. hope they reward people for getting some of these achievements in gears 3, like they did in gears 2 ..... like unlocking RAAM in mp.

I beat Gears 1 and unlocked raam for gears 2, didn't get the seriously achievement just beat the campaign game for gears of war...6xp? I'll go from lvl 70 to 100 hopefully
 
I've had one hell of a time getting into Horde mode games that I actually need for achievements. Do we still have a Gears of War CAG group?
 
I'm trying to set up a Horde session tonight (and maybe some other nights this week but I have shows to watch then :D) since there is a 6 xp event. Note that it is 6 times the original xp, so it will be 3 times the current xp rate which is default to double xp.

I plan to start somewhere around 10:30 PM EST (that's 7:30 PST or 9:30 CST). I only need Horde achievements on the following three maps: Nowhere, Memorial, and Allfathers. These maps are part of the Dark Corners map pack so you obviously need that to have the maps (or All Fronts which is everything).

Mics are highly advised/required unless you have a lot of Horde experience (completed 1-50 before, can plant 3-5 shields during a new round start, get through 1-20 solo, etc).

Nowhere will be up first since it is a 1-50 one. I'll see if there is "time" for Memorial. We'll be playing on Normal difficulty. If people want to rush through asap then casual can be done.

If anyone's curious, I've had the game since Jan 09. I played Horde for about 2 months straight before going to MP which I played semi religiously until TU4. I am currently rank 6x (7 or 8 maybe?). Execution, Guardian, and Annex are/were my most played modes depending on if I had a group. My connection is average to meh but is fine for Horde.

Social horde is the way to go to get them (join/quit without penalty), but setting up a private party is probably better since host gets to choose the map.

I recently earned the Under Hill and Memorial achievements, and had hellava blast. Great teammates. Looking forward to some Allfathers and Nowhere [much much] later.

I've been trying to Horde achievements done for a while now so you can count me in. Been playing the game for well... it's closing in on 2 years now so I can hold my own. My schedule is usually pretty flexible throughout the week so send me a game invite regardless of my sign in status. These days when I am online I'm usually appearing offline to ensure a little "me time". Well that and the fact that a lot of my friends invite themselves to parties at random which irritates the hell out of me since they can be loud so if I tell you to put it on invite only you'll know why.

Sorry, no, I can't for awhile. But thanks for the invite though. I'd love to, but recent personal events sidelined me.

Your points about having the headset/mic make perfect sense. A team has to be able to communicate and setup roles to win in horde.
 
last call for anyone wanting in on Horde mode. map will be Nowhere on normal difficulty, with the goal completing all 50 waves. please have a mic or be fairly familiar with Horde. send a message/FR me. start time approximately in 30 min. I'll check one last time before signing on.

Even if it's just the two of us depending on where we camp we should be able to make a solid dent. Of course a full team or even an extra man would help but I'm still down to play tonight.
