Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

Anyone here willing to trade their Golden Hammerburst code, and perhaps even Golden Lancer, for XBL pts, 1 free month trial codes, or some XBLA titles (Frogger, Time Pilot, and some other one like Astropop?)? I PM'd someone with a Hammerburst code, but I'm just throwing it out there for anyone else.

I bought Gears 2 from the TRU deal (came with $15 GC), and I'm tempted to open it.. but once I do, my whole day will be gone. =x

For those who played a lot of Halo 3 or CoD 4 - how does the matchmaking compare to Gears 2? I wasn't a big fan of the first Gears online because I hated playing with random people (and had to rely on them hosting games and booting the silent guy).
After a few matches online, the game plays great, but the lack of ability to continue playing on other maps after the match ends literally makes this game retarded to play. Unless you have 10 people you know ONLINE and all of them arent playing a match and all 10 join a private game together, then there is no way to do what you could in gears 1. Huge, huge disappointment. They better fix this or i wont even bother keeping GOW2 and grab Resistance 2 for my online gaming fix. Good thing i didnt use my code for the classic maps. My resale will still be very good.

I wonder which idiot at epic thought this was a good idea.
So are you saying the game requires you to have a full party in order play online with friends? So partying up with another person or two won't work?

It works, it's just really slow. Much faster to go in with a full team.

Ok, good to know...I attempted a match with 2 people total in my party yesterday but after 2 minutes I gave up and ending up playing Horde.
yeah... it's really stupid. my friend just made a fake account to remedy it but it was pointless.
wow, fucking wow. that was the whole appeal of Gears 1 for me. playing with my roommates online as guests. this is fucking shitty....wow...im actually regretting my purchase a little now. insane they removed that feature. insane...
OMG I ordered release-date delivery from Amazon and I'm still waiting. This blows...ahhh i cant wait
Same thing happen with me, I had release day delivery for Fable II, I recieved it 4 days after released...... even though they sent it overnight on the 6th (recievined it on the 10th)

I wonder if the difficulty level achievements are stackable (beat story on insane and get the achievements for hardcore, normal and casual) or do you have to go through and complete it each time on the different difficulties.

They're stackable, but just like Gears 1 you have to beat the game once to unlock insane.

Achievements for Difficulty levels are stackable. I just beat the game on Normal, and got the Casual Achievement as well.

Also, a little hint about those who want to get 1000/1000:

Co-Op, Marcus on Casual, Dom on Insane, player with Dom gets Insane Achievement unlocked.

Playing on the Flashback Maps = 10x better than the regular Gears 2 maps.

I think I like all the new variants of the original maps better than I liked them in the original Gears, though I would like to have a few nighttime maps.

That is for little girls. Not for big, burly men, like you and me.

I'm just putting it out there, like the couple of ways to cheese Seriously 2.0. And to think some people are going to try and do that legitimately.

I'm going to go get the remaining 3 collectibles I need now.

Beat Level 50 on Hoard about an hour ago! So sweet! My whole party only died twice and it wasn't until the 30s and 40s that it happened.

Also, the Golden Lancer download works now! :)

Wow are you flipping kidding me? I knew I should've just walked to a store and bought it. Its nearly 7 now and I'm pretty sure its not coming by this point. :bomb:

I just got the final Collectible. I also have 100% unlockables, so no 30/30 COG tags from Gears 1 needed for 100%.

I'm probably going to Try Horde later again tonight. I really want to get through Wave 50, but I don't want to do it with random people for obvious reasons (STUPID EPIC).

The matchmaking is horrible at the moment. Takes way to long, doesnt always give you the option to play certain types. There are voice glitches when in between rounds. Chainsaw is unstoppable, basically dont have to rev to chainsaw someone. Nearly every map has something stupid on it to kill you.

Really they tried to do to much, and ended up messing up a lot of stuff that made Gears what it is. Good thing they do patch the game to try and improve it

did anybody else that didn't go to the midnight launch or pre-order the game still get those cards to download the theme and gold plated lancer? lol i just thought that was funny that i didn't do either and i still walked away with all that stuff to download.

They can definitely patch the whole forced kick from a party thing, chainsaws, voice glitches (Hopefully AI issues in campaign as well), and play certain types in is basically a server-side change. Although it'd be nice to search for individual game types, so no choice, just like Halo.

Just beat it. Had a real good time with it. I played on Normal difficulty, will do insane later down the road in co-op.. The worm part was hilarious.
Did anyone have a trouble downloading the gold plated lancer?
my xbox keeps telling me I cant download it
Yup. The hammerburst worked fine. The lancer didn't.

If you have 5, you barely get done pressing the A button to search and you're already loading up the MP lobby. The chainsaw requires you to change up your game a little more than Gears 1 did - grenades, melee, power weapons all work well, while using the Lancer and/or shotgun don't. As far as the map elements that hurt you (the razor hail, the avalanche, the security lasers), all that stuff is easily avoidable - look for the hints that the weather effects are coming such as light rain before the hail and a town siren before the avalanche.

I am so pissed right now I pre-order this game off someone local on ebay of course this guy hasn't replied to my messages in 3 days. So now he has my money and I had to file dispute and you know how long that takes, which of course the money went straight from my bank account so I don't have a credit card dispute which I usually try to do, but sometimes I forget being paypal doesn't make it a default payment. Also on top of that it was an order for 2 being I order one for my gf. so now I am missing out my favorite game because I tried to save 40.00. I should of went bb midnight launch got a tank a sick shirt and hat, plus extra weapon. Instead I have nothing, but issues to deal with and out over 120.

i went to gamestop tonight and they had a stack of extra codes, and i bought the game from circuit city. they still gave me a extra code and didnt even care for the gold hammerburst, so i figured i would ask for fun. I'm stupid though cause i installed the nxe and now i cant register the 1600 pt card, the gold hammerburst, and the flashback map pack till the 19th :(

Same here and when I try to go back and re-enter the code -- it says it is no longer valid.

Wow this is just purely Amazing. I have only played a little into the second act, but I am loving it, just like the first game. Gold lancer won't work for me either =/ . But, on the bright side, when I went to Gamestop, and they said all the LEs were on hold, I just saw that there was a stack of hammerburst codes, so I just asked the cashier "You wouldn't be nice enough to just give me a hammerburst code, would you?" and she just said "Why not?" and handed me one, which made up for the fact I had to end up buying it at Target :)

I don't know if I'd want to use a gold plated weapon. Even mafia wives don't wear gold jewelry anymore. Gold is the new rhinestone.

Been playing for the last few hours and this game is everything I'd hoped it would be, and more. This one is so much more epic than the first; they really capture the feeling of all out war in this one.

My only gripe so far is that the two new characters are kinda lame, but I'm only on the second chapter, so I dunno, maybe they'll be cooler later.

Some people already have Seriously 2.0!

Looks like on the last chapter/stage you can kill over and over again. People reporting upwards of 600 kills per minute. Since I don't have the game I have no idea what they are talking about, but since Epic decided to make Seriously work for campaign kills it looks like there won't be any insane achievements to get just yet after the fact several people just got Seriously 2.0

Also for the insane mode achievement there is a work around of sorts...

Have the host play on insane and your difficulty being casual (this is online co-op, this doesn't seem to work locally) and the person on casual will, well, run through this game pretty quick on casual. Obviously certain parts of the game will still require your partner to get through some parts on insane rather then just sit back and eat cheetos.

Love the new interface, played online with a friend for about two hours.

If anyone has any extra codes for gold-plated weps and wouldn't mind giving one away, I would appreciate it.

It's about 100 kills every minute/minute and a half.

Also, don't bitch out and and cheat to beat it on insane.
