Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread
Aren't you in a PhD program, Dmaul? It's not like it's hard to remember weapon locations.
:D.

It's just that I don't play enough to learn the maps. I'm just not big into online gaming so I never put in enough time to get the maps memorized. Just play casually off and on for a month or two when a game comes out until I get sick of it and trade it in. I mainly keep a live subscription for co-op gaming with friends.

If I played more I'd load up the maps with bots and get everything down. But I just don't enjoy it enough to put in that kind of effort when I could be playing Oblivion or something else that I'm having more fun with.

So in that vain I preferred CoD 4 since it didn't have weapon spawns etc. thus it was easier to just pick up and play casually. Where as Gears is pretty tough if you don't take the time to learn the maps and get half way decent.
That is not a game-breaking glitch, once again.
the only gamebreaking glitch is when you play guardian on river and the other leader hides under the stairs. I see tons of idiots go under there thinking they're clever. but it just makes them vulnerable to grenades.

The glitches in Gears 1 were far more exploited than these minor out-of-the-box ones. The boomshield glitch is perhaps the most annoying, but other than that, this is just nitpicking.

Boomshield glitch is so much fun to use though. What's great about these glitches is that they are easy as hell to do. If someone starts glitching against you, just glitch back. Sure, it's immoral in a sense, but it's a game. They wanted a dirty game, they'll get one.

As far as "game-breaking" glitches go there doesn't seem to be any. Honestly, who cares if an idiot hides under the stairs? I LOVE(CAPS) throwing a grenade in there and seeing him blow up. Free kill FTW. The only glitch that they really have to fix is a "lag" glitch. Anyone ever start a match and go around shooting only to find out that you aren't really shooting your gun and have unlimited ammo? You can't do damage and you're stuck in a crabwalk the entire time. It doesn't happen to me often, but a friend of mine gets it all the time.

There are game breaking glitches, standby/lagswitch ruins games. Cant count the number of games I have played without lag until my team gets to 4 wins, then all of a sudden everybody is glitching across the screen and cant shoot yet everyone on my team is dieing.

Although these arent gamebreaking glitches they're still things people will exploit to get an advantage in the game. Becuase they think they are good for using these things.

Have you tried reporting these people plus making them non-preferred (or however it is referred to)? I have never replayed anyone I have marked as a problem. Start getting your entire team to do it. The reporting may not do much (not really sure about that) but saying you never want to play them again does work!

I have in Halo 3. Reported a group of guys and played them an hour later. That could just be a timing window or something on MS's end though. It's the only time it's happened to me.

That melee thing isn't really gamebreaking. Its pretty unlikely you'll ever get caught by it unless you don't pay attention to your surroundings at all. I've never stood next to a wall, with another player on the side waiting for him to make a move. You either run, or you jump out in front of him with your weapon and kill 'em/be killed. The last match I played before I had to get a new box was pretty bad. We were up 4-0 and the last round had everybody lagging, and we ended up losing 4-5. :whistle2:|
Is there an infinite grenade glitch? This dude threw 6 in one match within a short amount of time O___o
He could have been standing on the grenade spawn point. I've seen that happen before.

I rarely see the shield glitch, and when someone does it, usually everyone converges on them and they last about 10 seconds. And yes, I report them.

Some thoughts on the new map pack after playing a while longer, for those of you wondering if it's worth it:

- I've found that quitting in the lobby, after match-type is voted on, is far more common (because any match type is possible).

- I've found that most of those who seem to have bought the map pack are either Clans or high ranking players. This means that unless you fit one of those categories, expect your ass kicked far more than the shipped matches.

- Fuel station seems absolutely huge. Which is a nice change.

- It may just be me but they seem to have way too many insta-kill weapons on at least two of the maps.

Anyway, my new favorite thing to do in this game is to rush the insta-kill weapons to horde them and not use them, because I'm so tired of 2 or 3 players with torque bow/boomshot dominating every match.

Ran into another weird glitch today on Pavilion while playing Guardian. A dude kept spawning at our point, which gave him easy access to the leader.

That's not a glitch.

Epic just really sucks at spawn points.

He was running through the wall to get into our spawn point too.

I wouldn't say that. It just proves you camp in a spawn it doesn't work. If anything it makes the game quicker.

i thought that was done to force your leader out of the spawn point......
anyway i especially love sticking grenades on the center of the stair rail by the spawn there.
its good for atleast 1 kill for every grenade.

If you plant the shield right up against the wall, you can hop over the shield and go through the wall on the pavillion map.

Interesting. I will make a note and try it the next time I play Gears 2. I wonder if that works on other maps? :whistle2:k
Am I too late for online multiplayer? Still trying to beat campain...
No, it's still pretty busy.

But just be warned, other than being chainsawed a ton, you can expect matches to be filled with melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun, melee-shotgun. Oh and a lot of regular shotgun to the face from 30 feet away.

If you and your team are good enough you wont even see a shotgun very often, it just isnt as effective as team fire hammerbursts

and sadly, no one does this.

Want to bet on that? That's all me and my two friends do on Pavillion. If we are down(3v4 or 3v5) we camp in our spawn. One by grenades, one by the stairs area and the other wherever he wants to go. We all have our Hammerburst out. Try going through those doors. If our grenades don't get you, our guns will :).

I was exaggerating a bit, but I meant a lot of people ignore the power of the assault rifles. I know what you're saying since I try to do the same with a couple of my friends, but in certain situation they just like to bail out and rush for the power weapons-- which isn't bad, but its.. whatever.

Well rushing for power weapons does work as long as its a legit power weapon and not the sniper/mulcher or something else not worth really fighting over. But rushing to the other team with a shotgun out is laughable, so getting the 2piece is pretty rare if your team keeps it together. Now if your down numbers and get flanked the 2piece is just the best way to make sure you die. Cant complain about someone punching you in the back of the head can you....
What's wrong with melee-shotgun?
There is nothing wrong with it. If you want to be competitive, you have to do it (I don't so I don't usually). Just like if you want to maintain a high rank, you have to learn when to quit matches (which I don't do either).

I'm just boo-hooing that the most common forms of death for me are chainsaw and melee shotgun. I actually get excited when I get roasted with the flame thrower, killed with a pistol, or taken down by an assault rifle. Because it's rare. And I give players that kill me a lot that way good reviews.

I see. Well, I try to use the torque, lancer/hammerburst as much as I can, but sometimes when there's a guy in your dick you gotta use the shotgun. That's when you two-piece 'em.

If this has been posted already just pass it by, but man I never knew all the crap! Good thing I can't play online lol.

The shield glitch is mentioned.
Lol that isn't even half of the glitches out there. Those are just the most common glitches you can get information on from playing 4 games of Execution and talking to your teamates about glitches.

We ran into a pretty shitty glitch last night on River. Apparently you can go into the main houses and get behind the fence/gate underneath the ramp leading up to the torque/snips. Some guys did that on a Guardian game and they're pretty much unreachable.

That's a pretty old one. All you have to do usually is throw a nade in there. All depends i guess.

I guess no one read the article that I linked to. It tells you how to beat all these glitches that people are bitching about. For the guy getting behind the gate on river, just throw an ink grenade. Its absolutely impossible for him to survive because the space back there is so small. Also, 1 well placed frag will kill him or 1 thrown on each side.

When you're in there, all you have to do is plant a smoke nade on the ground, shoot it, and it will glitch you on top of the ramp that leads to snips/bow. There's an easy workaround right there.
is it feasible to think Epic would add a matchmaking game type that just plays the new maps.
Uh, they did do that.

?

well thats good then, I'll have to inform my roommate, and I think I'll buy the maps now too.

He has to use a smoke grenade to get into that little area to begin with. If you give him enough time to get 2 smoke grenades then you deserve what you get.

Yeah, I mean it's really hard to run to the nade spawn after you spawn, wait for someone to pick up the frag/ink and then take their smoke so you have 2.

Matchmaking has been working really good for me.

Frosty and I have been getting into matches within seconds of searching.
I agree. Matchmaking is faster now.

But still no reason why we have to sit and watch the end results screen for 25 seconds after each match, and can't jump right into a new map with same teams.
well thats good then, I'll have to inform my roommate, and I think I'll buy the maps now too.
The maps themselves are cool. But unfortunately, in my experience, most of the people that have downloaded them are not.

More quitters, by far, playing the new maps. And many full team clans that will decimate you if you're in a PUG.

The end results screen does kind of suck, it gives people a chance to quit out.

If you kept the same teams, people would just continue to dominate the opposite team over and over. If you want to play with the same people who were on your team, just invite 'em to your party.
