Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

I think early quitters should get an automatic 30-minute ban from playing Gears 2 online. This will not affect people who quit for a reason (work, children, sleep, ... etc.) as they are really gone, but would penalize the constant quitters.

I noticed the title update now permits the bots in Horde to knock down Shields placed backwards. This was a very useful tactic in Horde. I am glad I already completed my 50 waves - it will now be much more difficult.

Wow, that's a big patch update. Again, I still don't agree with the spawn protection thing as it was more of a strategy thing than an issue.

An issue where players couldn't chainsaw enemy meatshields if the meatshields were already damaged.
An issue where some players would not see the animation of a meatshield being chainsawed.
An issue where players could not chainsaw an opposing team meatshield in a game type that doesn't allow respawns (for example, Warzone and Execution).

This confuses me. I always thought meatshields couldn't be chainsawed through, which is the primary reason I used them. But it turns out, that was a bug?

Well I guess I know where 800 of my 1500 points on my account are going >_<

Would rather them not have achievements for the maps though, as I really just wanted to trade Gears 2 for World at War.

I'm not sure either. Might want to test it out. When I read it, maybe you had to damage the meatshield to chainsaw it? Iunno.

Matchmaking is still a laggy piece of garbage. Such a pity, this game is actually really fun when its working as intended, but given the frequency of that is 1 in 3 or 1 in 5, its a pretty frustrating. Always Gears of War 3: the search for more monies.

Just played a few. Still quitters galore. But now on the stats page it actually highlights who quit so you can give them bad reviews. Not that that makes any difference to them....

Still shocked they didn't fix the 30 second timer at the end of match screen. No reason for that.

I was wondering if after the patch it is worth going online? from the release notes over at kotaku it looks like they fixed a lot of stuff. I have mainly been just playing halo 3 online because of all the bad things i have heard about the gears of war 2 multiplayer.

They lost even more EXP for quitting now I thought I read? People probably didn't even realize the patch effected them that way *yet*.

Host quitting is the most annoying imho.

Knocked out the Annex match wins on the Combustible maps this morning. Took way longer than I thought it would; everyone votes for Gold Rush. Now to start working on the Flashback Maps.

I have a question. Ive been playing co op with a friend. He has his difficulty on normal and i have mine on hardcore. But how does that effect the game? Is it easier for him to kill people that it is for me? Im just wondering. Because if that is the case, someone could play on insane, and have the co op partner play on casual and have him take care of most of the people if the other person isnt that good.

I think that's how it works. The person on the lower difficulty deals more damage and takes less damage than the person playing at a higher difficulty.
damn backward boomshield planting means shit now  it's gonna be hell to finish Wave 50 (or a long ass time camping)
Yea, this pisses me off. I have gotten to level 37, I would have made the level 50 Horde achievement a priority had I known this was going to be fixed.

On the plus side, matchmaking is only running me 60-90 seconds now.

Its really not that hard to beat all 50 waves with a group of 5 guys on Casual. Play Hail, its the best map IMO for it. Never used any glitches, never even heard of this boomshield glitch, but I got through it.

^ No problem, glad to help...

I played abit tonight, me and my friends were not going to play online until it got patched etc. Still seems the same to me though...only played a coupld of games though. I could never get into Gears 1 multiplayer and really wanted to like this one but havent really had a chance to yet lol...

I could really use some help with finishing Horde if anyone is interested. I'm only up to wave 15 or something like that, and it's such a pain trying to find a good team for this in random public matches. Restarting from the bottom over and over because people want to leave or don't know/care what they're doing... ugh.

Played it last night and it seemed to find players and matches faster. But host shotgun is still a big problem. Lag was still a problem last night especially since i was playing with people from Japan i believe. oh well.

I beat it with my friends in real life over Xbox Live. It was fun the first time, and I pretty much enjoyed it on Pavillion, although it's super easy on pavilion. Just grab a mulcher and you're set.

Hey, I want to finish Horde mode also. I tried playing today and people kept leaving by wave 2:nottalking:. Whenever someone would stay they didn't bother playing as a team. I will send you a friend request and see if we can get some other CAGs to do it with us.:D

joined a game a while back, and we started at wave 30 (you can start where you last left off in a private game) and worked our way to wave 50. It took like 2 hours, and i thought it would unlock the achievement. it didn't .

But im down to join a game, and try it again.

Anyone want to help my finish coop on insane. I'll take any partner, they dont need to be on insane. It's easier if you arn't on insane. I'm starting on Act 4.

Sitting at 1100/1175, and we're gathering up a party to do the Annex achievement tonight. Must have all DLC. :) Please send a friend request if interested, I'll pop on most of the night.

You have to beat all 50 levels. You can do it in any order you want. If you go back and do 1-29 you'll get it.
I think I'll give Gears 2 another shot.

Is the Hammerburst stronger then the Lancer?
yes, and if you manually shoot you can pump more bullets faster too.

I can help with horde for anyone who wants the achievement. I've done them all and we can do Day One Private with just two people. Go ahead and add me to your friends list just tell me you're from CAG. I could use help on Insane for anyone who wants the achievement there as well. Doodle I sent you a PM.

...until you run out of ammo lol :)

Ive just finished playing Gears 2 online...and the patch has seemed to have done some good tbh. Matchmaking is excellent for me now! I just need to get some practice in now :)...

If anyone wants to play multiplayer add my gamertag...no under 18's please!

I played it last night, and had a good time. First time in a long time I've played it, and didn't run into any hateful people. If it was like that all the time I would play it more.

I just popped in gears 2 to get the title update. Went to join a game and it sat there looking for teammates for over 1.5 minutes. I just said screw this and turned it off. Epic Fail.

It seems like the more people in your party the faster you'll get games. So try and get as many people with you as you can. The last few nights I've played with 5 people and we get matches in literally seconds.

I am happy to report I haven't even equiped the lancer since November, since I hate the chainsaw so much. Yes, I still die by the chainsaw all the time, and it is the worst part of the game, but the melee shotgun pisses me off nearly as much. I'd say 80% of my deaths are due to chainsaws or melee/shotgun.

In fact, I'm ready to declare that Gears 2 shines most as a fun game in long distance fighting. But the close combat really drags it down, as it usually feels like a coin toss most of the time; and it seems most players tactic is to get as close to you as possible as fast as possible, which keeps the game in mediocre land.

What game do you find matches in in less than 1.5 minutes? In my experience it is extremely rare to find matches that START quicker than that. Many games dump you in a lobby quickly, but then you have to wait for it to fill up. If I had to guess a time limit on average for all games it would be around 5 minutes from the time of pressing start to the time the game starts.

Gears 1 - i can jump into a game already being played in seconds.

COD4/5 - Same, jumps me into a game being played and then rolls over to next map and we keep on trucking.
