Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Any Forum Trades; please visit http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230651

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!

I got them at one store for 10/$1 and another store for 20/$1.

Optical, looks like you are unlucky. Two stores were selling them near me, and a couple others just threw them out.

WHERE WAS THIS?

is the store closing monday?

I just picked up 300+ more cases(4 of the long boxes full of them) for free. It was the stores last 4 days, but they hadn't been told to sell them so they gave them to me. :)

In Vegas off Ann Rd, they are closing Monday. They still had a lot of new DS games, including the SMT and Valkyria games I bought, and a few for other systems. They also said they had some more used games in they back they hadn't put out yet. I think they were going out tomorrow? Not sure.

Did they have a decent amount of 360 stuff as well?

Umm, the selection of 360 wasn't that big. But all the used games they said they were putting out tomorrow or Monday, they said the majority were 360. They had a stack of them, but they said they couldn't sell them till they were in the system. I do not know if they have cases or not because the stack of games were in sleeves.

Damn. You got lucky. At the two Movie Gallery stores that closed down around here they barely had anything left by the last couple of days and it was all crap.

I checked the other MG store last night and it was shut down. I thought maybe they would've still had a couple of days to go, but it was two weeks ago when I checked last and they had next to nothing good left then.

I may have to check the Hollywood Video that's closing by me now to see what's left there and what kind of percentage they're up to. They had shit as far as new releases already, but I'd pick up the Watchmen game for PS3 for $4-5 for the hell of it.

Yeah pretty lucky... they found and put out a bunch of games to sell after the sale went to 60%, because it was barren then. These appeared out of nowhere and all the discs were super clean. Some didn't look used at all..mint condition. I also scored bayonetta 360 and AC2 and Beatles RB at 70% off 2 days previous. I guess sometimes it pays off to keep checking in.

I would've kept checking the two MG stores that closed, but I don't get down that way that often anymore since gas went up to $2.70+ a gallon. Stupid scientists. Work on making a water powered car, dammit.:bomb:

2.70? Wow thats pretty cheap. It's 2.95 for the cheapest one =/

Hmm, maybe I'll check it out or give them a call sometime tomorrow then.

OT, but I got gas today for $2.61 :D

Yesterday, in addition to the 300+ free cases, I picked up the following between 2 stores(one HWV and one MG) :
24 Season 5 (all 6 discs in great shape)
24 Season 6 (all 6 discs in great shape)
24 Redemption Disc 2 (great shape)
Atomic Train DVD(been searching for this forever on Ebay, but it's always expensive or in Korea)
Echelon Conspiracy
Fatwa
Love in the time of Cholera (for my mum)

All for $20 + tax.

EDIT: the Ravenna, OH store is having their final day. Not many regular or Blu-ray left, but there's plenty of porn at 90% off. :)

I was stopping by the HWV closest to my place to see if there was a new game sale and to my surprise, I saw a big CLOSING SALE banner. Anyway, I stopped in and saw a TON of good games still available, but the sale just started in the last week and they are only 30% off. Hopefully they stick around until 50%+.

I did end up getting about getting 8 360, 2 Wii and 4 PS3 cases. Unlike the other stores they went though a box and pulled all the game cases out for me. :) The bad thing though, is that all had a "Display Copy" sticker on them and all but 2 360 cases are trashed because of the stickers. Oh well, I guess I will have to take some Goo-gone to them.

Went into my Hollywood and convinced them to sell me a vintage giant Mario mural official Nintendo from like 1990 10 foot by 5 foot for 50 bucks. Got myself a screwdriver and pulled it right off the wall. Looks great!

I might of missed this part somewhere in the thread but is anyone being denied of using their Game Crazy gift/store credit card for closing HWVs? they told me that their computer system wouldn't show the value of the card and therefore would not allow me to use the remaining credit on my card

is there anything that I can do for my Xbox 360 that RROD and its 3 year warranty runs out this winter? was hoping to replace it for free but with all the GameCrazys around me now closing

Lies. Yes, you can still use your remaining gift card balance. I just did one the other day when I worked. I didn't try to look a balance up, but I doubt they took off the function.

No idea on your system tho since I'm at a hwv and not a GC.

Also...be aware that some stores (mine is...started last Monday) are not allowing refunds at ALL. They took away the function to do it in the computer...so now it is very important to check discs before you buy.

last week i went to HMV with a GC next to it, and the GC employee told me that i better use the credit, (even tho they shipped all the good/recent games away,) or get a gift card (which im assuming the credit will work for a HMV close to my house), he did mention that i "could" also call corporate for a check for the remaining credit you may have, but that did sound somewhat weird, since there about to go out of business all together

Talk to the manager. When I asked a worker about the Mario poster they were like ummm I don't think so. I asked the manager and I got her to come down from over 100 to 50. They will sell EVERYTHING. I even picked up some office supplies for real cheap! I almost got a vintage gumball machine too but I didn't have the cash.

I think they wanted to keep it for themselves. And they hope that no one would ask for it either.

Picked up some popcorn (had to make sure they didn't expire) and the lone gunmen series for four dollars. Nothing really game related but still, a good score.

Damn. I should have looked for the Lone Gunmen series. That's one of 3 Xfiles-related season long sets I'm missing.(the other two being the original thick box sets for Seasons 6 & 8)

Maybe I'll go look tomorrow since the last HWV in the area that's closing will be on its final two days tomorrow.(so all core DVDs @$1)

The guy is losing his job. Maybe it's his ONLY job. So I don't blame him for being snippy at you for going on and on about the poster. Just try it when another employee isthere.

BTW, Batman Forever frickin' sucked.

I checked my closest HWV that's closing last night. They put 'SOLD' stickers on the 360 kiosk and the disc buffing machine to stop people(i.e. ME) from asking about them. They told me someone came in earlier in the day and bought the tall game case they had all of the new games in. What was funniest was that there was tape on the floor spelling out the word CABINET and a tape rectangle right where the case was before.:roll:

Anyway, they were only up to 30% off and still renting out some of the better PS3 stuff(Borderlands, etc), so I'll check back in another week.

Hopefully by then it'll have bumped up to 40%. But I did have a good long conversation with the one woman working about how different the recent store closing sales I've been to have been compared to other ones I've been to in recent years, among other topics.

Shame that everyone there is losing their jobs, since they were always so friendly and helpful. I wish them nothing but the best and I hope they are all able to find other jobs in this shitty economy.

If they're still renting, now would be an excellent time to sign up for Powerplay for one month, rent the game you want, return it right before the store is closing, and snag it at a massive discount. I know several people that did this.

BTW, I counted the cases I have inventoried(blank and with manual and art) that I kept and I have 393. There's more floating around my room that I still need to inventory or sell, so I have well over 400 that I kept, and probably 200+ that I ditched due to damage or little grey stickers that don't come off.

Hmm. The Movie Gallery location finder doesn't have my MG listed anymore. That sucks. I was hoping to check it out once more this week after I get paid Wednesday and grab some cheap Blu-Rays/any games left over, but I guess that won't happen now. Bummer.

Just hit up HWV on it's last day and got a sick deal, I am planning on selling most these on ebay so if you want them PM me before I do.

Anyway I got 6 Anime DVDs and 3 Movies with
last week i went to HMV with a GC next to it, and the GC employee told me that i better use the credit, (even tho they shipped all the good/recent games away,) or get a gift card (which im assuming the credit will work for a HMV close to my house), he did mention that i "could" also call corporate for a check for the remaining credit you may have, but that did sound somewhat weird, since there about to go out of business all together
This might be true about getting any remaining credit into a check... I saw we had a sign that came in today somewhat stating that information. You just need to call 1-8-SpeakToUs

Nice!

Today was my very last shift at Hwv. (Not the best day on a side note...had it out with my mgr...but I won't vent to u guys 'bout that.) Our store is done on Wednesday. If you're going the last day a hwv is open...go EARLY because hwv has someone come in the very last day and buy EVERYTHING thats left.

Can you please explain this more in detail, Super_Dawn? It would be much appreciated.

Sure! I've closed down 4 stores now...basically they have someone from an outside source (I'm not sure who exactly...it might vary) who just buys absolutely all the rest of the product left in the store at 90% off. Some outside company that buys bulk product I'm guessing. Other than that...thats all the info I know...except that its a pain in the ass to ring up. ;)
I was actually eyeballing the case at my store, thinking it would make a cool display case for stuff. But it's at least 12 feet long. I don't know where I would put it!
I was considering some of the shelves from the one MG store, but once they told me they're 'all in one piece'(essentially 12-20 feet long:shock:)I changed my mind really quick.:D

But I am kicking myself for not buying that magazine rack for $5 now, since I could've used it with my 'better' guides I have and just dumped the rest of the bulk crap that hasn't sold in forever.

Thanks for all of the updates while you were able to contribute, Dawn. Hopefully you find something else soon to make up for whatever money you lost by not having this job now.
Thanks for all your contributions super_dawn!
none of us could thank you enough for the updates you given us super_dawn

thanks!

I went to one hwv that's out of the way and struck out, the next one I went to had literally nothing. Then walking around I found a box with a 99 dollar price tag on it for a used DS Lite. I thought wtf not and brought it up to the front thinking no way in hell would that last. Turns out I was in luck and they did have one!! I walked out of there with a DS with charger and a nice cleaning cloth, but no games, for 20 bucks plus tax. Good day for me!!

Yeah, thanks and good luck, Dawn. People often forget there is a human face on stuff like this.

I heard something similar re: the last day a store is open. The local store didn't mention a bulk buyer coming in, but they did say that Wed was their last day but that I should come in early because they won't stay open the whole day. I assume they'll shut down to inventory and sell the remaining items.

Hmmm. I was going to super-lowball them on that huge display case. They were asking $3k, now down to $1200. If they'll only get around $300 for it from the bulk buyer, maybe I could offer $350-400....

Thanks guys! I am so very thankful to have my other job...two yrs earlier and I would of been screwed. And I'm glad most were able to get some good deals while it all lasted. I only wish I would have been doing this sooner...its fun talkin' games and gettin' things for so damn cheap. I'll try my best to keep the op as updated as possible...till hwv completely goes under.

Doesn't hurt to try...if you're talking the huge game display case, ours was going for $1500 and it did sell right away. We had a lot of people from area businesses buy up all our shelving surprisingly. In our guide book it mentions we're able to haggle down about 10-20% of the price...but if its really close to the last day they might go for it.

Unless you quit being a CAG, you'll always be able to talk games. Ha.

I wanted to purchase some of the shelving, but then I realized that I had no way of taking it. Tsk.

I'm still shocked that my HWV is still holding up. It's always dead whenever I go.

Yeah, it's the monstrous double-sided twelve-footer that dominates the store. All the other shelving did indeed sell out really fast, but this has been marked down $3k, $2500, $2k, $1800, and now $1200. Tomorrow is their last day, so I'll go today and take another look. Do you know if it breaks down into sections, Dawn? It's hard to tell.
