Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Any Forum Trades; please visit http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230651

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!

Rockford, IL, perryville location was an absolute total bonefest for me. Found Resident Evil 5, COD4, Fallout 3, Halo 3, and Resistance 2 .... when I was in line, the line became huge, so I told the girl she can wait on these people first ....... 30 minutes later, I tell her I'll come back so she can get a breather .... I come back and she tells me she found only 1 of the games, the others are missing. Fine, I'll buy that one ... Im being charged full price. NOW, before she spent time looking I asked her if the 29.99 used game sale, for 5 bucks was being held at this location (b/c it is at the Crystal Lake store). She said yes. Now, she says no. Wow. Welcome to boneville, population, me. So, I'm fairly pissed off right now.

Fallout 3 XB360 was $49.99 used at my HWV. I even had her price check it. Other than that I was able to pick up a Fallout 3 (PS3) in a generic case.
That's how the woman was this morning with me, though my one buddy said when he got there to pick up his held games she said she thought I was the kind of guy who would report her for holding stuff for customers. That makes two instances of people thinking I was gonna report them this week.

I came close with the snippy bitch at the post office on Monday or so, since I'd kill for a PO job and she was bitchin' bout being stuck there till 7 pm due to holiday hours.

After she let me grab FO3 and R2(the two I was mainly after today)I didn't really care what she was holding for who. Besides which, the leftover held games were all disc only with HWV coverart and black case shit.
Wrong again! Only 2 games weren't complete...nice try tho.

I went by my store, but I didn't see any games for sale? Are they separate from the rental games? I saw some rental games with stickers on them that say 'Buy Me' with a price, but sadly not a single PS3 game had that sticker...
Just got back from the Keystone location and picked up Terminator and Sonic Unleashed for the PS3, mint.

They had a ton of PS3 games that were just transferred from the closing GameCrazys in the area. Resistance, Ratchet and Clank, Elders Scrolls, and more. No Wii games, and just a few 360 titles. Only notables were SFIV and Midnight Club. They had Resistance 2, but rang up as $34.99, oh well.

Did I happen to see a fellow CAGer there this morning?
i was there lol wearing fur coat

anyway picked up rachet, midnight club, lost planet, godfather, wanted

I went to one in dallas texas. They didn't really have much. I ended up with sf4, halo wars, and ff: crystal chronicles(yes i know its old)

everything else I didn't really care for, but they didnt have any of the "big" games, and very little selection.

well let me know if anyone's store restocked or not. i did the black friday thing and there was absolutely nothing, even was the first to my store. if not restock, then i won't check it out. roads are bad cuz of the snow.

Bay Area, CA

Went to three HWV

Two were gamecrazy hybrids with nothing on sale and one had absolutely nothing (worth mentioning)

I could have sworn I ran into another CAGer who asked about another HWV in the area.

I got a few. Wii Music and De Blob for neighbor who's had a financial crisis and can't afford christmas presents for her kids.

Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires - one copy for ps3, and one for 360
Halo Wars
Damnation - 360
Castlevania Judgement

what stores did you went to?
Nah, a white kid with a 4x oversized Blizzard shirt
lol, i don't know why i find it funny when people are rocking video game clothes when going to buy some more games

Not a single game at my store. Not even ex-rentals. All last gen games. Not restocking apparently. I'll go in on Monday and hopefully the girls I dealt with before will be working. I pray they are there so I can order games through them...but if not, I have enough games. It would have been nice to get Prototype and a couple others for $5, though.

Oh well.
Wrong again! Only 2 games weren't complete...nice try tho.
Well, I didn't really look seriously at anything besides the PS3 stuff and as soon as I saw the nearly clear PS3 cases those were the ones I wanted.:D

I live in the Bay Area as well. I went to the Hollywood video on Hillsdale in San Jose, since that was the only HWV in SJ that didn't have a Game crazy. Didn't have anything, though.

Guys also check out Movie Gallery which is owned by the same company as HWV. Checked out an HWV in my area and it was picked clean.

The associate at the store I went to didn't know that there is a sale, I told her about it, she checked the PC then bam! They're running it.

Got
Uncharted 1
Simpsons
Legends of Wrestlemania
Eternal Sonata
Tomb Raider Underworld
HAWX
Lego Star Wars
Lego Batman
Saints Row 2
Fiddy Blood on the Sand

The only bummer is Fallout 3, RE5, Red Faction, etc. that are listed here as 29.99 were 34.99 at Movie Gallery. They had a shit ton of it too. I had her check and she said the price was the same. I just hope she wasn't lying as after she discovered that the sale was going on she proceeded to pull all the Wii Games and saved it for herself, I guess.

I went to that one too around noonish?

Did you have a black blizzard shirt and some skate shoes with blue on them?

I was with my friend in all black, I was wearing jeans and a grey hoodie with a fuzzy hood

Doubt there will be. I went as soon as class ended, and there was nothing :(

Nah, I went about an hour ago. The only other guy I saw besides the cashier was a tall skinhead with a bunch of tattoos.

There's a buttload of MG stores around by me, though I think most of them are rental only places with no Gamezone section in them.

Wow thanks for the heads up! I just got the following games in Mesa, AZ for $31.60:

Oblivion: Game of the Year Edition
Burnout Paradise
Resident Evil 5
Prince of Persia
Lost Odyssey
Fable II

Anyone in Socal find anything? During lunch break I went to one (Ontario) and all they had was Saints Row 2 and Spiderman 3.

Went to three HWV, only one of them was participating in it. THe other two weren't since they didn't have the "Gamezone" section on HWV set aside specifically for selling used games.

Just ended up getting Civ Rev and Fallout 3 for PS3.

Hmmm there's no specific label on the Movie Gallery I went to that says "Game Zone." Although they sell games and have a game rental section inside. Call them dude, a lot of people don't know that MG and HWV are owned by the same company; you might just end up in a gold mine :)

That is unless my competition(in a blue Grand Prix) from earlier today doesn't hit them up first.

Yea, I went to MG too and there was a copy of Resistance 2 marked $35, but I was hoping it was marked wrong. It wasn't...

The HWV store I went to was picked clean, looked about the same as it did two months ago. All last gen sports and other crappy titles. Going to head to a few more stores tomorrow.

Went to one and the employee knew what I was talking about (thank god). Too bad the store was empty (with customers and games).

I'll head to another one tomorrow.

Anyone know if games for sell are separated from the used games or they are all together only those for sale have a sticker that says 'Buy Me' with the price?

Nothing in Vegas at the two stores I went to except the Fallout 3 and COD: MW I was able to get. The employee didn't know about the promotion but after making a few calls confirmed it and I was able to get the two above games for $10.98 with tax. Thanks OP. Both stores looked like they were on the verge of closing and a third store I had went to was already closed since the last sale.

Haven't you ever been in a Hollywood Video or other used game store before? There's usually a 'new' section, a 'used' section and a rental section in those stores that rent games.

As for which games are part of the sale, READ THE FIRST POST(as it has a list compiled of which games qualify)and then go to the store and see if you can find any of those games on the shelf and marked USED.

If the Hollywood Video store has a Gamezone(big cases with new games in them on one side)in it, then go look for the games from the list in the FIRST POST that you want and bring them up since they SHOULD be running the sale if they have a Gamezone in them.

At the ended of the day walked away with Super Paper mario, Resistance 2, Modern Warfare, Dead Space and Lost Odyssey. I'm happy, I might check a store or two tomorrow and see if there's anything new.

I'm interested to know, from GC/HWV/MG employees that are posting here ... what's the criteria for selecting what rentals get marked for sale, and whose call is it?
Just curious because the store I've been to twice now was dead both times (as in, I was the only customer in the place, even during peak hours) and they had TONS of rental inventory on the games listed in this thread ... multiple copies of many, yet had only old PS2 titles converted for sale.
I'm asking this to see if it's even worth the effort to attempt to get some of the rental stock converted ...

I really should try that tomorrow sometime at the other HWV by me, since they had about 5-7 copies of MK vs. DC, which is another game I'd willingly try for $5 but would never pay more than that for.:D

My local hollywood video store only had 4 ps3 games and i bought 3. Fallout, street fighter 4, and resistance 2 (which was actually new/sealed with a used sticker on it and i got away with it :D) but i really wanted mk vs dc :whistle2:/ aww well im happy overall.

just picked up L4D for $5.45 (w/tax), saw a bunch of old games xbox (org.), gamecube, ps2, and some ds games, only one ps3, a 2007 baseball game

how/when does HWV mark there games "used"???? cuz i didnt see any of the games listed by super dawn except for LFD, also, do they take there rental games and just put a "USED" tag on it???
