Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!

damn, how many times do you have to be told?

 funny...!
even if the store is closing they can't do this, the manager/employee will lose some money from their last paycheck......as per what i was told by the hwv near me.
yes they can do this! And the store does not have to be closing to do it. It's just entirely up to the manager...if they feel they have a lot of game rental stock they can rental sale it. Obviously, most of the time this wil not happen, but ya never know when a mgr is just trying to get more business. Hell, I can even do it as a shift leader....buut I'd have to have mgr permission which I wouldn't get...unless I did something sneaky. ;)

and no...hwv would never take money out of our paychecks for something like this or even other situations similar.

Dunno...I didnt even ask. The manager suggested it. He said whatever games they had a lot of rental multiples of, he would sell for the sale price if they qualified. Initially I bought four games and went home, then I said "what the hell am I doing", and went back and bought six more. The cashier was kinda like WTF? but the manager reiterated that it was ok. The cashier was incredulous as I got six games for less than the price of one.

There are ten rental copies of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe for PS3 at a local store, no rental copies for 360, and they had several 360 copies for sale. I suppose I should ask politely for a solid on the MK PS3.

Thanks for the thread, Dawn!

I also have a question for you. When you rent a game from Hollywood video, do you get to take it home in the original game case? I've never rented from them before, and I like to look at the art on the back of the case. I swear I'm not six years old.

Sometimes on newer games, you will get to have the original case/manual/boxart, etc like new. For older ones though you will just get a basic generic box with front cover but just a generic descripion on the back.

If you are buying off the rental shelf, if it doesn't have the retail case on it, they won't give it to you (most of the time)
So, if you walk up to the counter with the original case, you get that case? Nice.
Yep. But the majority of the time, for older games, they replace the good case with a basic one. If you find a good cased-game on the shelf to buy though, you wlll get to keep it.

When we receive the games on Fridays for rental the display boxes are in "nice" cases and the rental games are in "generic" boxes because they have the locking ability on them. ...now, when I pull rental games for sale; I actually will take the "nice" display case and do the whole switch so the used game will be in a nice case and with the manual if still around. I personally take the time out to do this because I think it looks better and of course, people will buy it faster. However, I don't think anyone else takes the time out to do this but me. ;) It's tedious sometimes and its not required at all to do.

If they are taking the copy off the rental section for purchase...i'm sure they'd give you the display box cover art if you'd like.
Does anyone know when they add games to the preplayed area to sell? Do they do it weekly or what.
No set date.

Damn, I made a big mistake at a HWV on Thursday. They had 3 copies of Damnation for the Xbox 360. I remember somebody on here talking about how Blockbuster gives $17 credit for Damnation, but I was worried that it was only for the PS3 version, or that I'd buy these 360 versions, and they wouldn't take it or the value would be much lower. I went to that same HWV today, and they had one copy of Damnation left. Since everything else had been picked clean, I decided to go ahead and buy it on the hope that I could take it to Blockbuster. Sure enough, Blockbuster is still giving $17 for it! I should have bought all 3 of them when I saw them, it would have given me some nice credit to work with at Blockbuster.

When I was at Blockbuster trading in Damnation, I looked at their used game selection and one of the cool things about Blockbuster, is that most of the time they have the real case and instruction booklet. I prefer having the real, legit case and instruction booklet if possible. Of course... beggars can't be choosers, lol.

pretty sure you can only trade in one copy of the same game anyways, so actually good thing you didn't buy 3 ;)
Even if you come back on another day?
I've done that a couple times. Shouldn't be a problem unless your HWV person objects.

With BBV, it's best to spread multiple copies around to multiple stores. I've never done more than one per day per store, but their store-level system cannot see what you do at other stores.

Finally got around to a store in my area that is still open and participating in this sale. And naturally they were picked pretty clean. Ended up with Golden Axe & Thrillville (360).

i got Band of Brothers Hells Highway for PS3 today...don't know if its worth 5 but heck its just 5 so i gave it a try..........

Animal Crossing and Super Mario Galaxy for Wii still ringing 34.99

My theory on $5 games is mostly that if you don't get the seizure that is warned about on the back of the game, you probably got $5 out of it.

I just finished Battlefield: Bad Company last night(not from this sale, but from the Gamestop B2G1 over the weekend) and I more than got my $5 worth of use out of it, though it seemed kind of short.

I suppose if I had actually got out of the vehicle(s) I was in and fought through every area with enemies till they were all gone it would've lasted longer than 10-12 hours, but that was the fun part(mowing down trees and crashing through parts of buildings in tanks and trucks).:D

Now, if Mercenaries 2 was like this game I might've enjoyed it a bit more, since this game didn't even seem glitchy(a first for EA developed/published titles).

As for how I got the game for $5: I traded in 4 games to GS that cost me less than $15 total(Fallout 3, FEAR 2 from the HWV $5 sale, MGS 4 and Assassin's Creed for $2 each from a local shop)and I got about $50 in credit for all of them, with which I got BF:BC, Dead Space and Rise Of The Argonauts(which I never finished the last time I had it).

Went to the only 2 HWVs left around me and found Fallout 3 :360: at one for a friend and nothing at the other. Hardly any :360: or :ps3: games, much less qualifying. Drag.

Hell's Highway was a great game for 360. Good story and decent mechanics. Great deal for $5.

thanx i just checked and it had 8.5 GS score too.......will try it out for sure.........

Isn't HWV pricing structure similar to GC or is it just for the regular prices and not the sale prices that GC runs like Animal Crossing, FNR 4 for 14.99 temoprarily?

Actually, I believe that HWV will end up matching any current sale prices(including used sale prices on games). That's how I ended up getting one or two of the games I got during the last $5 sale, was that they matched the sale price GC had for the used copies.

Although I forget which game(s) it was.

I picked up:
Oblivion (360)
Raiden 3 (ps2)
Castlevania Curse of Darkness (PS2)
Hulk Ultimate Destruction (Xbox)
Mortal Kombat Armageddon (xbox)

I also picked up some stupid looking Naruto game that was supposed to be 25, and Mass Effect, which I already have, and flipped them at gamestop for 14, didn't look like they had anything else with potention to be flipped for any other systems, but I think I made out well, bought Prey, Shadowrun, and Pocketbike Racers for 360 with the $14

Three things caught my eye when I went to HWV.

1. The rack of games for this sale with a lack of 360 and PS3 games
(seriously I didn't find a single one just a bunch of PS2 and Xbox).

2. WET's trade in value of $30 :cold:

3. But the most shocking of all a big sign outside saying "All new games
$19.99" ..Could I have possibly missed the best sale of the year?
Or maybe they didn't have crap to begin with..although the games
behind the glass were picked clean..

They started carrying value titles only - so games that would have MSRP of around 20 bucks - you didn't miss much (if anything) when they made that transition - maybe a few higher priced games slipped through the cracks, but not many...

I found fallout3, halo 3, midnight club la and godfather 2 for 360. Turned $21 into $56 at GS (extra 20 with 4 games). First time I've ever done this. I already had fo3 and halo3, no interest in the other two.

On 360 I picked up:

Wanted: Weapons of Fate
Mirror's Edge
Saint's Row 2
Red Faction Guerrilla

Totally stoked because I was willing to pay $20 just for Red Faction. So glad I found this thread.

No, they just shipped off all the $19.99+ new games to other stores when they made that transition. Though my local "budget gamezone" store actually has a few $19.99+ games anyway. They won't ring up $19.99, though - they'll be what they are supposed to be. I suppose if you want to be a douche you could point at that $19.99 sign and try to make them honor it, but personally I don't think it's worth it for Cars Race-O-Rama .

I was quite surprised I went to a store that I was at on Thursday and it looked like it was barely touched since then - still lots of games though nothing spectacular. Lots of that Hells Highway game you guys were talking about though.

Sounds like they won't be getting another restock after all though - apparently the GC stores don't want to give them more stock with the sale being extended (this guy thought it was supposed to end last Sunday and just got extended for another week - don't know why he isn't privy to the info super_dawn has, but whatever ;)). It was kind of a one-time thing that they got the Gamecrazy overstock I guess.

well my two Movie Gallery's were completely wiped clean of anything of value. The first one had a handful of old sports games for PS3/360 and Saints Row for 360. The second one had all PS2 games. Meh.

Picked up 4 Samurai Warrior 2, DW: Gumdam, Pinata, and Red Faction: Guerrilla thanks op for posting this.

All Xbox360 Battleground, WA (they have TON of 360 left)

The two HWVs I went to had absolutely nothing. One of them had the 2 for 5 deal going and had about 4 360 games left. The other one was doing to the 4.99 deal, but didn't have any 360 games.

Picked up
COD World at War (360)
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (360 & ps3)
Emma goes to the Mountains (DS)
Red Faction (360)
WWE Legends (360)
The COD and Transformers were marked 34.99, but scanned at $29.99 and quailified. The store clerk inspected each disc, and even buffed one of them for me. Nice shop, hope it can stay afloat.

call of duty modern warfare for PS3 didnt qualify rings at 34.99

So i didn't bother checking world at war for PS3 / XBOX 360 /Wii

Is the $19.99 for new games YMMV or nationwide? They have new games behind glass and also a rack of new games at my HWV. Last I checked they had some newer/recent games behind glass.

New recent NEW games won't be sold at $19.99 or less. I saw AC2 in the glass display case at my HWV but it's marked $59.99 NEW. Every other game was $19.99 and under (older games but still in NEW condition).

I'm guessing the AC2 was a pre-order not picked up. I'll be eyeing it to see if it does drop in the near future, since I don't have the game yet...

When did Call of Duty World at War become part of this sale?
Can anyone else confirm this by their store?

I tried to confirm COD world at War for the 360 but the store by me that had one copy doesn't have it anymore. fuck.

Was at Hollywood Video last night and saw Call of Duty World At War (360 version was 29.99, but PS3 was 34.00). I was impressed with the sale. Last time it went on, they didn't have crap. But this time I got Resident Evil 5, Assassin's Creed, and COD:4 (all Xbox 360). I was amazed they even had Fallout 3.

damn i went to 3 stores that i did pretty good over the summer sale and they all were pretty cleaned out and look like they're starting to only carry value games ($20).. only 1 had decent stuff for ps3 like fallout3 actually behind the glass but i only have a 360

i checked it out this past monday.. i know i prob should of jumped day 1 of the sale last thurs but to be honest i dont know if they ever had that much to begin w and these stores arent near by so i didnt get a chance to check them out right away

oh well mayb ill get lucky at some other stores b4 the sale ends

What exactly falls under this $19.99 for new games sale? I haven't been to my Hollywood Videos since the first days of this sale and want to know if it's worth it to take the trip just for this. I know the last time I went they still had a lot of the newer games available so it would be amazing if I could grab some of those.

this dumb slut refused to buff any disks prior to me buying even though the store was empty last night. reported her to the manager today.
