[SIZE=+1]Three important notes[/SIZE] (please read these before posting questions):

[SIZE=+1]1)[/SIZE] Most of the prices listed below will not be shown on the games at any given Kmart. Chances are if you can find them they will ring up at one of the clearance prices listed. The best way to check it is to bring a UPC sheet with you and use the floor scanners to verify the pricing before you ask the Kmart associate to open the case.

[SIZE=+1]2)[/SIZE] Kmart price drops are generally national in scope. However, each store must process the price drops individually. While the price drops originate from corporate, different stores have wildly different ways of dealing with them. Some will implement them immediately, some weeks later, and some, it seems, never. Also, there are occasional glitches in the pricing where a game that is otherwise on clearance will ring up at full price at certain stores.

OK, on to the prices...

The wonderful thing about Kmart is that they combine dirt-cheap clearance pricing with a general lack of organization. Thus CAGs in the know, hopefully using info from this thread, can find some amazing deals.

First off, here's the UPC database list as created by Slash and updated by MightySlacker: chttp://kmart.slashbunny.com/. Use this to verify pricing in your local Kmart.

The prices are organized alphabetically and by system (thanks again to ShiningSlade for starting it off this way).

Since the exact pricing is so YMMV, and many games ring up at 2 or 3 different clearance prices I will list all of these separated by slashes, with the cheapest first. For example: Psychonauts $3/$14/$24. I am also adding a bit to the color coding - see below:

Then that's when you go up to the front desk and ask for a manager and if the next time you're in that store you don't happen to see that same 'inconvenienced' employee, then you know they've been made conveniently out of a job.:D

But it does help to do like others in this(and the Target/Sears/TRU)thread and print up a list of UPC's for games you want and just take them to the self scanner in the store. That way then you'll know in advance when a game you want is a cheap price or not BEFORE having them open the case.

Of course, then you risk them thinking it's an 'error' and trying to manually mark it back up to whatever the sticker price is, in which case then the manager has to be called again to verify it's the cheaper price.:roll:

It's a neverending cycle of aggravation and frustration with Kmart, but once you start finding clearance games ringing up for $2-5 each it becomes worth it but just barely.:cry:

I have to echo what some of the others have said about the Kmart game displays. Too many games just get shoved into the bottom of the display cases, and they end up with 3-4 rows of games that practically invisible and inaccessible to the shoppers. Out of sight, out of mind you know. It's almost like they don't want anyone to buy the games that aren't new releases. Some clearance and Greatest/Platinum Hits games get moved to an outer shelf, but some just seem to get buried. If more people could see what was in stock, they would probably sell more titles.
 
Just one question and welcome to the boards SHC gamer, when a large number of games disappear from a Kmart or Sears or a large number of toys disappear seemingly overnight, where are these items sent? To another store, to a back room that is possibly filled with tons of past clearance items? Its possible customers are buying a lot of games at once, but based on the prices I am seeing I don't think that is the case.

Kmart here is good about putting the games with the spines facing outwards so you can see what is there, however Sears is another story, there are games buried on top of games, and you can't see what they actually have in stock.

Sometimes stores balance the inventory between themselves; that could be a reason for a sudden disappearence ,and less often, smaller independent stores will purchase inventory in bulk however this is far from the norm. If this happens consistently, definitely let me know the location.

Regarding the spining of titles, I hate how it looks but I also realize that there are so many titles and in many cases not enough space to merchandise them in another way. In no way should games be buried on top of games though. Definitely let me know the stores that are merchandising in this way and we will follow up.

Thanks for the welcome. The whole "glass case" scenario really is an awful experience. We are looking at solutions to fixing this and in April you will see us raise the opening price point from $19.99 and below outside of the case to $29.99 and below. I know it's not perfect but at least the greatest hits/platinum titles will be fully available.

I'll continue working on a solution for the cases, it's definitely a priority focus for me. Thanks for the input.

There is no reason our pricing shouldn't be consistent with competition; like Heavenly Sword. I'll investigate to see if we need to adjust this title. Thanks!

Ugh, I'll review this as well. Guitar Hero II for $90.....that kills me. We sell GH5 for cheaper than that on ad.
 
I've seen stores with 20 GHII's all at $90, always gives me a good laugh. Especially when I bought a clearanced RB1 for 14.99, with the GHII's right above it for 90 lol.

I was look at the original Lips with 2 mics. None of the other stores carry the title since it's so old yet I have 2 Kmarts by me with at least 5 copies each that still have them at full price. I just doubled check today.

If you can get the priced lowered I'd appreciate it. :D

The locations at 250 West 34TH Street New York, NY 10119 and 770 Broadway New York, NY 10003 had availability issues. I had to go in at least twice in each store to find a copy of Just Cause 2 (PS3 or XBox 360). The game was released on Tuesday, but neither the employees or I could find a copy on Tuesday! Stuff like that should not happen.
I finally got a PS3 copy at the 770 Broadway store, but I had to wait 15 minutes for the manager to come and adjust the price (it was on sale via circular). There shouldn't be any reason for that long of a wait.

Upside was that the manager apologized for the wait and gave me an additional $5 discount. I was happy with the service, but the wait-time was unbelievable!

Also, there was only ONE copy of Just Cause 2, and it was hidden behind some other games.
Is there some sort of allocation issue? I don't see why something that was released recently would be sold out so fast.

I'm sorry for the experience but grateful to the store manager for working with you on this. Just Cause 2 definitely exceeded our expectations and to be frank with you I just didn't buy enough, it's that simple. We do offer rainchecks (though I know that's not what anyone really is looking for) if we are out of stock on an item in ad.

The only time we dont though is if sometimes an item is allocated we will call out "while supplies last" and not offer a raincheck due to not knowing when the next shipment will come in.

SHC-Gamer, the list is, well, a bit on the confusing side, with the way it's formatted. It'd be far more helpful if, say, you would separate them by console, and/or price.

I understand that such things can happen given time...not trying to be a pain.

But speaking of being a pain: when will Bleach: Dark Souls for the DS finally start to clearance a bit? ;)

You're totally right, I'll format by platform next time. Bleach: Dark Souls is definitely a candidate for next month; good suggestion.
 
I think that those two pack games should be put on clearance too. The sticker on top says "2 Great Games for the Price of 1". I'm not sure if I'd describe them as "Great" though. Also I've seen a handful of copies of Ninja Gaiden 2 that I'd think would have been put on clearance since it's an older game.

Wasn't Forza 2 for the Xbox 360 clearanced out several months ago for $2? I checked it out during my last K-Mart stop(where I picked up Beijing Olympics 2008 for $5 thanks to this thread) I saw Forza 2 in the case and had them scan it. It rang up $20. Was I mistaken?

I think that was the regular edition that was clearanced. I believe the Platinum Hits is still priced at $20.

You know things get ignored when both Guitar Hero 1 and 2 show up on the official price list for 29.97 but GH Aerosmith shows up at .53. And plenty of other strange ones on there.

Should totally start the CAG secret shopper program. Pay us in games or special discounts. Ha.
 
Thanks for your input SHC-Gamer. I can tell from your list, there is no doubt you are who you say you are (the list is a Buyer/AB screen "to the tee"). I (and hopefully most here) do not expect to see "miracles", but any answers to certain questions and updates on drops would be great (Kay did this, so that's all any of us could and should ask for).

Listen guys, he's an employee (and like Kay, a gamer) who just happens to work on a Corporate level. Let's cut him a little slack. If customers are still buying a 5 year old game at MSRP, there's no reason to drop it in price or even recommend it to his boss(es) (even if newer versions are out). A game you see at your local Sears or Kmart that has been there for 2-3 years at MSRP, might have sold like hotcakes somewhere else (or at a bunch of locations). He still has to make the company money.

In Interfeci's situation, a possibility could be that it has gotten lost in the system ("I forgot we had that" or "we still have that" situation at a particular store). This happens a lot when you're allocating merchandise (especially when it sits in the stockroom for an extended period of time, then comes out). Then there's the situation when an item is returned to the store brand new to figure into the equation. Most inventory systems have a hard time keeping track of that.

Yeah, I saw the $29.99 clearance sticker on Enchanted Arms the other day... I was like whhhaaaat? You sure the sticker shouldn't say "mark-up", or "still way too high"?

I was wondering about those figures too. One of my local stores had at least 5 for each game and was curious if I could buy 1 separately.
