I did look up the stats...the devil rays have been trying to dump badelli why is that?(contract up soon, other cheaper young players to fill in and keep the drays in last place) He played 92 games last season, yeah roughly 1/2 of the season..He missed all of 2005...and he was a .285 ish hitter playing roughly 3/4 of a seaosn...last I checked .285 in the of is an avg to slighly above avg player, not a marquee player.
delmon young, a half a seson, try 30 games. I can give you a bunch of sept callups over the past couple years that had great sept, and were nothing the rest of there career. He might be great, he might be an avg player.
Cantu played more games then bodalli and young last year and he hit what, .249....he mr stats try going to
www.espn.com before talking shit. He hit .286 in 05 in about 150 games...his rookie year, the only year he hit .301, he played
50 GAMES. Yeah he played less then 1/3 of the season and hit .301, he is a sure hall of famer. His 28 homers came in his 2nd seaosn, don't try to say he is a .300 hitter and hit 28 homers in the same season...the year he his the homers he hit .286. Maybe it is because most pitchers just groove pitches against the drays figuring they could go play golf in florida sooner. Oh by the way, his obp% numbers last year were horrible. .295 is a poor excuse for a guy you are giving way to much cred to.
Looking at ba/homer/ stats doesn't give you the full picture, espically when they are playing 30, and 90 games. For over 90 games last year, chris shelton, 1b tigers, was a great player but he must of

ed up somewhere as he was dropped from the mlb club as the tigers picked up sean casey.
Josh beckett has nothing to do with it, yeah he sucked it up last year, but I am also not in this thread talking about how good some mediocre players are. I am not talking about beckett being a cy young guy this upcoming season. He has incredible stuff, but he is a stubborn

that throws straight fastballs when runners get on base, and untill he can/will throw his nasty curve and slider with runners on base he won't do well in the AL east.
As for the royals, yeah the drays have more alleged talent, but there records beg to differ. Last year the AL central was the toughest division in baseball, and the royals had 1 more win in the tougher division.
As for the drays themselves, the orioles have been a rather shitty team for awhile, the have 2 players that can hit and a bunch of inconsitent pitching, but the almighty drays still finished 9 games behind them. They didn't even score 700 runs, the royals scored 757. Granted the royals let up a hell of a lot more runs, but they did have several 10 - 20 run scored against them games last year...They had 8 games with 13 or more runs scored against them. That is 104 runs in only 8 games.
Its ok that you like them and feel they can develop, but don't be tossing around stats on a .300 hitter in 30 games to support yourself, espically when you try to throw around that I know nothing about baseball and stats. I have been actively following baseball for over 18 years. For years I was a cal angels fan, and atl braves fan (late 80's), and I would follow the red sox considering I live in MA. It was in the mid 90's I became a diehard sox fan, as my college friend I met were diehard yanks fan. It was from then on that I couldn't stand the yanks. Yes the sox had a tough season last year, but considering pretty much every single starting player missed at least a week in the month of aug, they did ok.
Team wins for the drays
98 63
99 69
2000 69
2001 62
2002 55 (ouch)
2003 63
2004 70 (good work)
2005 67
2006 61 (watch out al east in 2007, they were just buttonhooking us into thinking they were bad)
Also the proper way to develop players, maybe the drays should take a page out of the a's/marlins. Have the drays ever not finished in last place in the al east?
If you want to still talk trash about how great the worst team in baseball is going to be, bring it to the mlb forum in the offtopics section
