Official MLB 2K7 Thread; Out Now; Demo out Now; Reviews are in

They can do roster updates, and patches of course. Also they're the only baseball game on the 360 as far as I know plus it has good reviews. Should be hopefully a good game.
I hope thinking that they are the ONLY baseball game on the 360 means it will be good....look at how everyone hates Madden. MLB 2K7 is kinda like that now. I have high hopes though...glitches last year KILLED the game.

I still wonder why MS doesn't get back into the baseball game....there is a market there for 1st party people, seems rather dumb.

Yea I agree it is kinda dumb of MS, especially since they bought the High Heat License. I always felt that High Heat was one of the best sim baseball games around and it had 40 man rosters. It seems as if Sony is making the same mistake since I kinda feel that MLB the Show 07 won't make it on the PS3. The release is a month away and still no screenshots.
it seems like they fixed some glitches, but its similar gameplay to mlb2k6. difference is the unique player features and graphics. i'm not really a fan of the mlb2k series pitching system, wish it was more like mvp
I hate meter pitching but a big part of the problem last year was actualy the animations not the gameplay. As long as the franchise glitches are fixed i am happy because i never had a problem with the game freezing

Ok I know for sure I am not crazy when it comes to the ratings on this game. They are just plain awful. The AL MVP is the 11th best first baseman in the game, Jose Lopez is not a top 15 2nd baseman, Vidro is in the top 10, and I can come up with more stuff while I am at it. Looks like I have a lot of editing to do when I get this game next week.

Who would you like him to be ahead of?

Morneau .321 .375 34
Nomar .303 .367 20 hrs
Todd Helton .302 .404 15
Derrek Lee (Injured most of the year so stats dont reflect)
Paul Konerko .313 .381 35
Carlos Delgado .265 .361 38
Mark Teixera .282 .371 33
Travis Hafner .308 .439 42
Lance Berkman .315 .420 45

How exactly are the rankings off?

Only one I could justify putting him ahead of is Nomar, and give Helton the benefit of the doubt last year was just a down year, not that he is on the major decline.
Wow, this is turning into the my player is better than yours thread.....I think we should move this to off-topic soon ;)
If they would have just gotten a demo out, we wouldn't have had to resort to this :)

I know, but the game comes out soon. We can wait.

This is a really good article about early impressions on this game from a guy that writes for xbox.com http://www.5w-g.com/?p=131. He says the game improved a lot and his few gripes are the camera still has the occasional issue from last yr that makes you misjudge balls, and that it will sometimes have to load 1-2 secs in gameplay.

Just reserved a copy while I was out today at my local GameCrazy. There is some sort of preorder bonus, however I don't even remember what it is, so it can't be too great.

Can't wait to pick it up so I can stop playing 2k6!

I'm almost 100% sure that I'm going to buy this day one, but I just need to know that it doesn't have the same horrible bugs as last year's.

People have impressions at OperationSports.com....starts in the 7th inning, Mets vs Cards (no Detroit love).

Impressions seem favorable, but that doesn't mean anything when you deal with franchise (as 2K seems to be buggy with franchise stuff in their games).

I'll still pick it up.

Wow. I can say from the brief play time, the gameplay has definitely improved. One thing I REALLY like, Im not sure if this was in previous versions, when pitching, your catcher literally puts his glove where he wants you to pitch the ball. So you will see him set up for various locations. I can see this being extremely handy with the scouting reports you can buy.

Maybe this was in last years but I didn't notice it.

Edit: I will say it seems a bit to easy to hit HR's.

Edit 2: I change my statement. It is WAY to easy to hit HR's. Hopefully this is just because it is on a lower difficulty setting, but I literally just started playing and have hit 5 hrs in 2 1/3 innings. It seems everything that you connect with is well hit.

Edit 3: Hopefully not a sign of bad things, BUT, with runner on 3rd and 2 outs The computer let Guillermo Mota (RP) hit, instead of pinch hitting. Doesn't really matter the situation (runners on and such) but Mota would never be hitting.

Overall though, from playing the demo, this seems like it will be well worth the purchase.

Thanks for the demo impressions, anyone else have any impressions of the demo so far? Stuck at work at the moment.

awesome, i didnt download the demo because otherwise i never would have left my house lol. I got a $30 gift card at gamestop that left over from xmas and since i got in on PW2 for $25 at target ill use it for MLB2k7.

Ill have it by this weekend, is that when we are starting the leauge?

Over at OS people are saying mixed things about this (this is all second hand)

- Sac Bunts are next to impossible
- Graphics are not as advertised
- Fielding sucks (which is horrible if true)
- Hitting is easy (sliders/difficulty should fix this)
- Commentary/Crowd Noise not the best....small claps after a HR

I haven't had any problems with the fielding (I actually think it is quite smooth), though I hate the camera for fielding. I wish they would just quit all the cinematic crap and make the view like MVP 05.

Hitting is VERY easy on the default setting. Move it up though (especially the perception of the ball coming in) and it becomes much much harder. Though it seems it is VERY easy to make solid contact when you actually do make contact. This sounds really bad but I have been playing quite a bit and I honestly don't remember hitting a groundball yet.

I don't know how many have played MVP 07 NCAA but the swing stick in that felt much more responsive

Edit: 1 more small complaint. I tied the game in the 9th and brought in Jeff Weaver to pitch. Joe Morgan says, "even though it's not a save situation, they brought their close in anyways". Obviously Weaver isn't the closer. It's little things like that that really bug me.

For people reading my posts, I don't want to make it seem like Im not liking this game. It is VERY good, there are just a number of small things that pester. The main thing being it seems that GREAT contact is made far to often (messing with the batter contact and power sliders, plus the pitcher difficulty sliders help).

OI, dis be taken de long time to download. Mon.

yes that is jamican typing. if you can do better lets see it ::shifty eyes::

Maybe it wsa the fielding camera they were bitching about mainly then....I still may continue to play MVP 05 (w/07 rosters) if the demo does not persuade me to buy this, which I really want to.

You still have the option to use BUTTON swinging, right? I never liked the "Swing Stick"

yeah, you can switch from Swing Stick to classic control

I hadn't tried the classic control for swinging until you mentioned it. It DEFINITELY improves the responsivness and in my opinion is the way to do the batting.

Well, it's not up on PSN yet, I can confirm that. Shame that my 360 is a coffin still awaiting its proper burial packaging from Microsoft, because then I could try the game out.

Ok i'm no baseball nut, but i can tell you i LOVE playing video game baseball and play in softball leagues all year round. I'm not the type of guy that knows all the rating and all that stuff, but I thought i would toss in my input.

The game is gorgeous, forget that graphics not representing it, it looks very very pretty. The announcing is awesome and keeps up with whats going on I hit a line drive and almost took off the pitchers head and the annoucer was like OH man that ball almost took of the pitchers hat it got so close and the other announcer chimed in. Pretty cool.

I judge animation based off of MLB 07 for PS2. Say what you want but that games animations of baseball is freaky how realistic it is. To compare if you've never played it, you know how winning eleven has animations that you'll see and think wow i've never seen that animation and i've been playing for months, well MLB 07 does that to. 2k7 has outstanding animation. One of my gripes in baseball games is authenticity. When the runner his a basehit and the outfielder grabs it he's not going to throw the ball to second like he's making a break for it unless he is. Well the CPU hit one to my right fielder and he was clearly going to make it so when he caught it i pressed Y and he slowly threw the ball like it was just a hit. Stuff like that i love because it makes it feel like i'm interacting with a real baseball game.

This is a DEFINITE buy if you enjoy MLB the show, I love the pitching duels so far and hitting, while easy, will be fixed by the sliders.

my two cents :D

OH OH OH and the whole crowd thing is not true at all. I love when you play as the cards and you pitch one close and the crowd OH's when he swings and misses, or when they think its a bad call and you hear them heckling. Those guys at that sports website that are giving impressions sound like some tools.

did they ditch the whole press A to sprint to the base?

NOOO! You're going to make me spend another $60 + tax, just shut up

My wallet is on a one way trip to the ER, if this keeps up

February has been brutal, DAMN YOU CAG!

Sorry didnt update the op i was playing. The game is everything i want in terms of graphics etc....The fielding takes some getting used to but its still good. They seem to have screwed with the swing stick this year. Last year they actualy utalized holding the stick back for a second or two. This year if you hold the stick back to long it does a bunt. Overall its 10 times better than 2k6

Isn't there a deal in the deals section (strangely enough) for $45+$5 shipping on the 360 version?

I'm downloading this now. Thanks for reminding me to check the newly available demos.

I might cancel my pre-order if the comments above are true.

Why its a damn good game i dont know where people are getting the negatives from...You dont learn the game in one play. Anyway. Am i the only person that hates the swing stick this year but loved it last year?

Downloaded the demo and played 3 games so far.

Graphically, it's very nice, however it is much more jagged than the screenshots (I'm playing in 1080i, maybe 720p is better?). Player models look excellent, however the fans look the same from the first XBOX. Personally I think the fans need to be as detailed as the players so the baseball experience would be totally immersive.

The animations are definitely miles ahead from last years game. Has anyone popped to the catcher yet? I want to know if the catchers will take off their masks to chase fly balls, it has always bugged me that baseball games don't do this.

Swing stick feels the same to me, although since they altered the batting view slightly, I need to get my timing back.

Fielding, or more so chasing flys from the outfield felt a little awkward, but I'm sure that after a few games it will feel normal.

Anyway, I can't wait to pick this up tomorrow. I skipped Crackdown and other releases just because I know I will play the crap out of this game. Can't wait for the CAG league to start! Are we gonna do prizes or anything, just to get some incentive to play for real?

I liked it I'm going to play a few more games. But so far its a buy for me. The animations are awesome.

2k did something right, and realized that with the somewhat slow pace of baseball we need something more then good gameplay we need great presentation.

Im the exact opposite. Fielding to me felt fine to begin with but now that I am playing more I see more of the same from last year. Missed groundballs and such (though no flyball problems yet). It seems that the players aren't responsive right when they hit the groundball, and then they become too responsive and I find myself overunning ground balls. Haven't had any problems with fly balls except for the occasional one guy is highlighted and I think someone else is so I go in the wrong direction.

This in no way is deterring me from buying it though as overall it is excellent.
man i spelled utilized wrong. Actualy theres a deal at frys.com it comes to $50 or so
Isnt the best buy coupon still good til the 28th? $50 and you can get it day one in store.

Here's a question, the computer often sets up the catcher outside of the strike zone in hopes that the batter will chase, but is it possible for you to set up the catcher outside of the strike zone? If I get a batter into an 0-2 count, I want to be able to throw a slider that ends up outside and away, but all I can get the catcher to set up for is away and inside the strike zone, sometimes causing a wild pitch.

Try pressing the right trigger in and then move the left stick in the direction of outside. I was doing that and the catche was moving around. Not sure if it will help or not.

Edit: Sorry the Right stick not the left one.
