Bullshit. Bandwagon fans aren't fans at all. They like a team just because they win. When they stop winning, off to find another team. Same goes for the most popular team/most popular player. It's the same for these piece of shit 'fans' who like to only show their support when their team is winning. Yesterday, I saw about 300 people wearing Ohio State shirts. Where were these people the rest of the year? They may actually be really good fans, but they are afraid to wear anything about their school until a really big game comes around or they've won a title. It really pissed me off about the Steelers last year, we couldn't sell a jersey all year long until they beat the Broncos. Then they started flying off the shelf.
It's the same kind of people who come into a store looking for a baseball hat. Oh man, let me get that A-town hat. Let me get that CT hat (the Twin's TC hat). The majority of the people in this country are bullshit fans, and it sickens me. You couldn't pay someone to buy a Chargers jersey before LT was drafted, now I can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone with out his jersey. At least have the nads to own up to the fact you are an LT fan, and don't bullshit me with this 'Chargers fan' crap.
You want to be a LT fan, great. More power to you, and he deserves it. Want to be a Chargers fan? Great. They are a good team. But to claim you aren't a bandwagon fan by claiming you were a team fan since he was drafted? Sorry, you're just proving my point. I bet half the people that wear his jersey couldn't tell you where he went to school.
This isn't about jpod or anyone else on here in particular, it's about the state of so-called fans in this country. People latch onto the flavor of the month, and it's their all-time most favoritist player evar. I recall people talking about Merriman went he got suspended talking about, 'Oh, he'd never do anything like that. I've followed him his whole career.' Oh yeah, your watchful eye must have been why his stock dropped in the draft, right?
I guess it pisses me off that I usually know more about teams than these so-called fans do. If people want to be fans of a team because their favorite player gets drafted by them, that's fine. At lease have the decency to know the other players on the team and perhaps a little bit about their history. You know, like an 'Air Coryell' reference at the beginning of tonight's game.
I wasn't trying to pick on you man, but I've heard people say stuff like that with the feeling that they are just as big of a team fan as one who was there when Mark Malone was guiding the ship.
It's human nature to go where the grass is greener.
Sports is one of the only things that illogically goes against that. People get tired of things and get new favorites in foods, clothing, game systems, websites, game magazines, music, movies, tv shows, friends, books, hairstyles, sex partners, cars, etc. so how can sports teams and/or players be excluded from that as well? Consistent success can turn casual fans into long time fans who appreciate the history. Michael Jordan proved that.
Look at this from a players perspective also...
When I was playing JUCO basketball we had a hard time getting people into the stands. Yet when the VCCS tournament started and word got around of our first round upset victory and people started coming and supporting us. It was a good thing for all involved. It didn't matter if they didn't follow us later because the here and now is what mattered.
I can understand why you don't like it. Loyalty is hard to find in this day and age. I just don't see why it should make anyone angry. It is so insignificant compared to some other things fans do, IMO.
