Official NCAA Football 2006 Thread

Come on Rutgers, we need some more controversy with this BCS. The more one loss teams at the end of the season the better!!
 
I love this type of game because we find out what the surprise team (Rutgers) is really made of. I think it should be a pretty good game.
 
I have a feeling it'll be close at first, but Louisville is going to expose Rutgers.

EDIT - Thank you Rutgers for just letting the ball sit there on a blocked XP. +2 for Louisville.

There won't be any controversy though. WVU will beat them at the end of the year in Morgantown.

The BCS is pretty wide open too. And kids, don't buy into the hype. The Big East is still not that great.

It really isn't. Although I started keeping track of the Rutgers bandwagon last year, and I'm kind of pulling for them. At least for them to give us the playoff arguement.

IMO the Big East is pretty good and they will prove themselves in the bowl games. WVU and Louisville have been good for the last few years and Rutgers is such a breath of fresh air that they just aren't getting any respect. Same with Wake.
 
Well my team pulled another one out. BC on Saturday at noon and then Wake at home in 2 weeks. Win both and face GA Tech in the ACC 'ship. GO TERPS

In other news, from the highlights it looks like Georgia decided to start playing football again and, not just beat, but trounced Auburn. K State beat Texas, Cal lost to Arizona, and with Louisville losing the BCS should be shaken up quite a bit.
 
Well, Auburn went down the shitter yesterday. For the second time this year they were outplayed and outcoached at home. It's hard being an Auburn fan, having all the potential in the world and not living up to it. At least it's not as bad as the potential LSU has, who on paper is the best team in the country.

so 40% of the top 10 lost this week. That's crazy. And Arkansas keeps on looking more and more like the real deal every week. It should be an exciting finish.
 
I wonder if Florida will get jumped by USC or Notre Dame this week in the BCS, due to a poor showing at home against South Carolina? USC, Notre Dame, Rutgers and Arkansas should move up atleast 4 a piece.
 
Wow, Jeff Bowden finally did the respectable thing and stepped down. I guess I can change what my avatar says now. Hopefully we can get somebody in here that will bring back the explosiveness FSU had throughout the 90's. I really miss the days of Weinke throwing for 450 yards and 5 touchdowns a game.

Yeah, I was wondering what you were going to change the "Fire Jeff Bowden" note to. It's nice that he was paid $537,000 to step down from the school's boosters.

This weekend should be the best for college football since week 2 (seperation saturday). Of course there's Ohio State-Michigan, USC-Cal, Auburn-Alabama, Maryland-BC, Wake-VT, etc.

Just curious, is there a NCAA basketball thread yet? I wanted to talk some hoops after watching Maryland thrash St. John's and other games this week (Oral roberts over Kansas, VA over Arizona, Vermont over BC, etc.).

Wow, just got back from the game. That was loud.

I was really starting to worry that I was going to be in a stadium with 100,000 pissed off people when Michigan scored that last touchdown.
 
It seems like every year that the BCS is set to explode in everyone's face, it manages to settle down near the end.

The system still is a piece of crap though.

Well, I was at the Iron Bowl today. I am so happy by how it turned out. Nothing is better than beating Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
 
I don't see how theirs not going to be a re-match in the BCS Game, I mean Michigan lost the #1 team by 3 points, while USC lost to Oregon State.
 
Well, we're bowl eligible (never thought I'd be saying that this late in the season). Usually we don't have to worry about that here at FSU, but this year has been quite a bit different. The only thing I can hope for now is that we beat UF next week and end any hopes they have about playing in the National Championship, and if we can't get it done, I hope Arkansas does.

I think the winner of the Arkansas and Florida SEC Title game, assuming they win out, should leap frog USC and Michigan. Michigan, IMHO, needs the following to happen (even though they barely lost to OSU) to get to the title game:

Notre Dame over USC (Michigan gets it over ND)
FSU over Florida (get Florida off their asses)
Florida over Arkansas (that way Arkansas doesn't make it)
the Big East winner to lose at least one more game (unless its Rutgers, UC stopped their hopes)

I think thats about it, as I don't see Boise State leap frogging anyone and jumping into the #2 BCS spot.

With that said, I think Michigan should drop right in front of ND, but will probably just drop to Rutgers spot. At the very least, they are coming up Roses against USC.

I agree that the winner of the Arkansas/Florida game should go, but that won't happen. Either USC or Notre Dame will go, assuming either wins out. The reason is simple: They're USC and Notre Dame. I don't think anyone would say ND is the 2nd best team in the nation, but too much stuff is at play outside of how good of a football team you are.

And I don't think Michigan deserves another shot. They had a chance and didn't win. It's someone elses turn now.

Arkansas could still lose to LSU this week so they could have 2 losses before they play Florida.

I guess what I was saying is that as long as both teams have 2 losses, the winner of the game doesn't really get that shot. Though if Arkansas destroys LSU this week, then handles Florida well, they deserve it. Same goes for Florida. If a 1 loss team comes out of the SEC, they will be in the title game.

If the SEC winner has 2 losses, then the winner of the, assuming either wins out and it isn't ND, ND/USC game goes to the title game. The better game would be USC/OSU, but part of me think USC/UM would be the best game in the BCS series. The BCS games have some potentially awesome matchups, assuming some of the scenarios play out.

Ohio State vs Arkansas
Michigan vs Southern Cal
Notre Dame vs Louisville (they'd get if WVU beats Rutgers, if not Rutgers is here)
Boise State vs Texas (Big 12 winner)

I think the teams on the left are almost guaranteed and same with the right column, though those teams could be interchanged.
 
Florida is ridiculously overrated. They've been squeaking out wins all year against both good and bad teams. I've had to hear so much crap from my friends at UF about how they beat Western Carolina buy 60+ points and Tim Tebow had 200 yards and 4 touchdowns. I mean come on, Western Carolina is a 2-9 Division 1AA team. This is the kind of crap UF schedules for their non-conference games every year. What other non-conference games did they play? Southern Miss? UCF? Give me a break. They have FSU on the schedule still but we're terrible this year. I refuse to buy into the SEC hype.

I too think Florida is overrated, but if they come out of the SEC with 1 loss, then everyone will say they deserved to be in the title game.

I honestly think that if Arkansas has 1 loss, and to USC nontheless, they deserve a shot at OSU. Their non conference schedule leaves UF in the dust.

Edit: Ok, so not that much better than UF, but still better. I thought that they played Nebraska.

A computer doesn't calculate "stuff is at play outside"...if Florida goes to the title game, i'll puke, I was pulling for Rutgers but I mean OSU is just leaps and bounds better than anyone else.
 
Another funny thing is that all the Florida fans here are already whining and crying up a storm about how unfair it is that Michigan may be able to play Ohio State again in a rematch for the national championship. Needless to say I have to remind them that their only national championship came as a rematch against FSU.

Leaps and bounds is a bit of a leap. Yeah they're up there, but Michigan was 3 points away from knocking them off the top spot. I just don't think they are that much better than everyone.

I just hope the title game is a good game, thats a close victory, as I am sure whoever plays the Buckeyes will be atleast a TD underdog and win me some money. :rofl:

I just wish I could've got someone to give me UM and the spread this week.

We beat up on each other all year. Arkansas is a better team than Florida, bar none. I mean, when UGA can have five turnovers with a rookie QB and almost pull it out, that tells you something. I mean, when Tebox is in there, people in Asia can see it's going to be a run. When teams have shut that down (Auburn, Georgia) Florida has looked downright anemic.

That said, as unfair as it is to OSU, I'd want to see that rematch. IMO, USC plays a cupcake schedule each year and it's pathetic. I'd much rather see Notre Dame or Arkansas be in there, but let's be realistic. We want the best two teams playing for the title, and who are the best two teams? The #1 undefeated, and the team that lost to them by 3 in their house.

Arkansas has the best chance at over taking the 2 spot, IMHO. If they convincingly beat LSU and Florida, they should be the #2 team. I think thats the only way Michigan doesn't get a 2nd shot at OSU. Unless ofcourse ND convincingly handles USC, but I still don't see the pollster jumping them ahead of UM, that may actually help seal Michigans fate as the #2 team in the land.

If USC wins out, they are in. There's no debate about it. If USC loses, it's pretty much Michigan. ND doesn't have much of a shot at leaping Michigan, Arkansas will make it close, but they would have to blow out LSU and Florida.
 
Yeah I don't think Notre Dame has a shot. I don't know if this is the way the computers see it or not, but you would have to give Michigan the nod before giving a team that Michigan beat 47-21 that shot, even if they beat USC. A ND or UCLA win over USC would knock off another contender and leave it to the SEC teams to decide what happens. If USC loses one of their games, that won't help Arkansas at all because they got beat big by USC. I guess it would knock both Arkansas and Florida out if FSU beats Florida and LSU or Florida beat Arkansas. Or if Arkansas loses to LSU and then beats Florida in the ship.

But UM and OSU are who I believe to be the best teams. And the best 2 teams should be in the National Championship. plus it would probably be another great game, which is what an unbiased fan, like myslef, always hopes for.
