The Air Force plays in the Mountain West where they've played since 1999. Before that, they were in the original WAC since 1980. Army was in Conference USA from 1998-2004. Navy is the only service academy that has never had any affiliation with any conference. Penn State was a staunch independent but wisely jumped at the chance to be the 11th team in the Big 10 in 1993. Syracuse was an independent for 102 years before joining the rest of their athletic teams in the Big East. The spanking LSU will give Notre Dame will only expose them as the mediocre team that they are. If it wasn't for some late heroics against Michigan St and UCLA, Notre Dame would be an 8-4 team in the Alamo Bowl. Instead we get to hear all about the Notre Dame mystique as they Sugar Bowl gets closer.

Yeah not going to happen, though they did consider it about 3 years ago. The Big Ten also went after Syracuse, but to no avail.

Don't say that anything in any sport will never happen. No one thought three BCS teams would go undefeated but it happened a couple years ago. Everyone thought ties would be around forever but then a genius came along and invented the current college overtime rules. No one thought we'd ever get a true national championship game but we've had one now for almost ten years. Everyone thought instant replay had no place in college football but here's the first full year with it in place. I don't like it but it's progress.

As for Notre Dame, they could hit another funk. If Notre Dame has back to back 7-5 seasons before it's time for NBC to re up them, independence might be more of a burden than a blessing. I tell you, Notre Dame will be in the Big East or Big 10 in the next 20 years.
 
You're right, but that doesn't change the fact that Notre Dame will not join the Big 10. Their history of being independent will not allow them to do it. Plus they have it to good right now. They can play their cupcake schedule and get a guaranteed BCS bowl if they finish in the top 8, which really means 12. If they were in the Big 10, assuming they only lost to Michigan and Ohio State, they wouldn't have gone to the BCS. It doesn't make sense for them to go.

NBC will always slob the knob of Notre Dame because of the ratings. It doesn't matter what the record is, ND has a broad and loyal viewer base that will keep NBC on board. The only thing a string of bad seasons will do is make NBC able to lower the payment.

Notre Dame has too many rivalry games to be forced into a conference schedule, and it wants to keep expanding it's fan base, so you'll keep seeing matchups versus teams you wouldn't expect (like Tennessee).

I would like to see conferences have championship games, perhaps the NCAA can waive the 12 team rule. That would eliminate years like 2002, when Iowa and OSU were both undefeated, but didn't play each other. How can you proclaim a champion between two 8-0 teams? It's ridiculous.

That's true but with NBC doing the NFL on Sunday, they can afford to lowball ND if they slide into a contract year without even sniffing a BCS bowl.

If Notre Dame slips into the Big 10, they still keep their annual games with Michigan, Michigan St, and Purdue. Out of the rest of the rivalry games, USC is the only game they absolutely need to have. They could have a rotating non-conference schedule with BYU, Stanford, and Navy. They've stopped playing Boston College this year. I was hoping that they could play Army in Yankee Stadium like they used to from 1924-1944 or even Giants Stadium like they did a couple times in the 70s and 80s. If they're not going to play that game in the NYC area, they don't need it for the exposure.

Conferences need to have championship games. It's a good thing the Big 10 didn't have one this year though. Michigan and Ohio St would probably be in the same division. Say Ohio St lost in the conference championship. Would Michigan get the spot in the national title game like Nebraska did in 2001. They got creamed by Colorado last game of the year. Colorado then squeeked by Texas to win the Big XII but then watched the team they just pimped a couple weeks ago get the invite to the Rose Bowl. Conference championship games are a double edged sword.
 
Well, it looks like Rich Rodriguez might be going to Alabama. Anyone have thoughts? I wonder how he's going to run that offense of his because A)Alabama doesn't have the personnel for it right now B)I'm not totally convinced that shit will fly in the SEC. Look at how well the spread has worked for Meyer:roll:

Maybe now those Bama fans will come back down to Earth and realize that Alabama head coach is not the best/most prestigious coaching position in college football. As for Randy Shannon, I have to applaud Miami at finally giving him a shot. He's been a great defensive coordinator for years and it's about time they gave him a shot. I figured they would since they are pretty strapped for cash since buying out Coker's contract. It always seemed like they'd be stretching it to Hire a Schiano or Rodriguez since they'd have to buy out either of their contracts as well. Spurrier was never a possibility, he just discreetly through his name out there for the Alabama and Miami jobs so he could land a nice fat raise and contract extension (which he got).
 
Spurrier was pretty shameless with what he did but coaches do it all the time. SC knew they had to keep him around to stay relevant in the SEC, so everyone wins except for the season ticket holders that will have to pay a buttload more for the right to watch a seven to nine win team.

But they will be the best coached 7-9 game win team in the SEC. But seriously, USC is on the rise. They could've/should've beat Auburn, Florida and Arkansas this year. That's pretty good.
 
I think this was the first time I really sat and watched the presentation show and I really enjoyed it. Congrats to Troy. Darren McFadden is the favorite right now for next year's Heisman but who else do you guys think will be up there?
 
Next year will be the year of the tailbacks. There's McFadden, Hart, Slaton, and Rice. Pat White might be the favorite for QBs, but the kid from Hawaii, Brennan puts up videogame-like stats.

A sleeper might be Antonio Pittman from the Buckeyes, since with a new starting QB the running game will be relied upon heavily but that also means Pittman will probably split a lot more carries with Chris Wells.

Thing is that Carolina fans were paying some of the cheapest ticket prices in the conference prior to this year. I don't mind paying the extra cash if things keep getting better. Spurrier likes the challenge. When he came to USC, he turned down extra money so that it could go to the assistant coaches. I hope he continues to lead us in the right direction.
 
Yeah, that is the nature of college football. Weis got an extension from ND last year becuase of rumors that NFL teams were wanting to talk to him.
 
Rumor has it Jimbo Fisher is close to finalizing a deal to become the next OC at FSU. Rumor also has it that Lawrence Dawsey (WR coach at USF and former Nole) and Rick Trickett (WVa O-line coach) may both be joining him soon. Very credible sources are reporting this.

BYU looked pretty good last night. They might have been a good first round opponent for Ohio St. I'm not saying that they would've had a chance but they wouldn't have been as embarrassed as Oregon was last night.
 
The Noles offense finally came alive during the 4th quarter last night and the defense handled the rest. Out of his entire FSU career, last night was really the only time I've seen Booker take over a game and live up to the expectations everyone had for him out of high school. I suspect he'll excel on the next level just like Leon Washington has. Hopefully he'll be the last running back victim of Jeff Bowden's offensive system.

Watching it, I think it was less of his fault than our defense just making some real athletic plays. I don't remember the first Taylor INT, but the second one was all Paul Oliver. Maybe it was a bad decision, but Oliver made a nice play. And the deep ball, if our guy doesn't make that INT (a Superman-like leap), you have it 1st and Goal or it's a TD and a totally different result. I also think Ore was injured and wasn't moving like he should.

But, it was a great game, and shows what a top tier bowl CFA has, and both our teams should have been better than our records.
 
Everyone wake up early for the Auburn game tomorrow. They're playing Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl. It should be a good game. I'm looking forward to seeing a healthy Auburn offense for the first time since the LSU game. If we weren't banged up the way we were, Auburn might have had a completely different season.
 
Well, Auburn won this morning, but unfortunately two other SEC teams lost. Here's hoping LSU and Florida can pull it out (I know LSU will)!
 
Absolutely amazing....one of the greatest finishes I've ever seen. Congrats to Boise State, definitely a fun offense to watch. Also surprised to see Michigan get throttled by SC after complaining about missing out on the BCS championship game.
 
What a game!!! After what I saw tonight, I have no doubt in my mind that Boise State should be playing in the National Championship game.

Here's hoping the same formula repeats itself next week: Monday night, Orange & Blue, underdog = win

If anything, hopefully this will give some more respect in the standings during the regular season for teams like Boise State; although they need to start scheduling some better out of conference games if they want to play for a national championship.
