Did it go better once I left?
Not really. Pretty rough night all around last night. No matter how many people we had, we just kept running into elite teams with winning percentages around 80%. I get that while we're in the elite division, we should play more top teams, but it's not like when we were amateur/pro, we only played amateur/pro teams. I don't know if just all the good teams were on last night or what, but we lost 6 out of our last 7 and are now in the middle of the pro division. Hopefully Friday will fare better.

I think the whole entire system is broken. If your in the elite, you'll play nothing but elite which I think is shitty really. I tried to keep my eyes open longer but no dice. Hopefully friday I should be on late.

I might be able to put in some time Friday night, if not, I definitely can do the Saturday brunch pick-up style like we did last weekend, if anyone is interested.

Fingers crossed for Friday.

I'm actually going to have a lot of free time tonight and tomorrow if anybody wants to play. My wife has to go out of town for a student teaching seminar so I won't have much to do. I should be able to play Friday too...but I just thought I'd throw that out there for those that haven't been able to make the regular nights lately.

All right, fellas. Here's what I've been working on. This will make it easier to keep up with individual stats on a monthly basis, and I thought this would be a fun way to show them.

Uh, sorry, Gary that there's not a better picture of you, haha. I meant to take one last night, but kept forgetting and exiting out of the game with all the losses we were taking. Anyway, I hope everybody enjoys these.

That's awesome stuff there Nate. It's all good! Kinda funny how mine is the clown one. I might be on later, if so send me an invite

Sick! it also puts in perspective how terrible I played the first few months, yikes.

at least I've been trending upward.

awesome job man.
Question, do these stats take into account our legend card lobby games?
Yeah, for the ones that aren't tracked on the website...which is basically FO%, OFF, Give, and Take. If you look at the December numbers (when we did the majority of our boosting), it's pretty obvious some of our give/take numbers are way off. But all the other stats should be club games only.

Oh, and here's the video of the hit pictured in Brandon's card. It was from a couple days ago and he just totally lit the guy up. I had to save it.

http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/58725273

And here's what I was able to capture of my crazy trick shot from last night. As some of you remember, the play started with Gary taking a shot that got blocked up in the air toward me. I somehow knocked it down with my stick, gathered it, backhanded it toward the net, it hit off a guy kneeling down to block it, flipped up in the air, and picked the top corner. It's bad enough the highlights are so freaking short..but not being able to save until .2 seconds in is really stupid.
Well, Alan and I played for about 2 hours by ourselves. No offense, Matt, but that's pretty much the exact reason starting at 8 is retarded. Not that we didn't have a good time, but it was just the two of us playing against random teams of two and getting screwed by our AI for most of the game (even though we went 3-1). So much for "really wanting to play".
That's on you. I was on the PS3 and I noticed that you were on around 7:40 Eastern or so. I sent you a message asking if we were going to be playing hockey, and you never responded before signing off 15 minutes later. What was I supposed to think? So I just kept playing the DC Universe Online beta.

Matt, you messaged my wife. She was using the PS3 in our living room to stream TV shows from my PC. When she was done, she turned the PS3 off so I could use that TV to play hockey (hmmm...15 minutes after 7:40 would be 7:55. I wonder why somebody would do that when we had just communicated in the thread about trying to play at 8 PM...) I didn't see the message until the next day. Seriously, is it that fucking complicated for you to check Xbox.com, this very thread, or God forbid turn your Xbox on to see if people are playing?

I don't know what is going on with you, but it's starting to become a little ridiculous how you create all these conspiracy theories and hypothetical "problems" out of nothing. "No one wants to play with you", we're "avoiding you", blah blah blah. Nobody is going out of their way to exclude Matt Young. You just haven't made an effort to play. Plain and simple. We've actually played every night this week. It's not complicated. Sign on...and play.

For example, Sean popped in and played with us last night. He didn't need 18 formal invitations and Google calendar reminders to do it. He turned his Xbox on, joined the party, waited in the locker room and played. Amazing how that works.

I never said anything about any conspiracy theories or that sort of thing. I said at one point that I thought you guys might have been avoiding me, but that was it, and was said a while back. Between all the stuff you said about that and the Google reminders, I can see what people mean about you hugely exaggerating things on occasion. As far as you saying I haven't made an effort to play, I have made an effort when I have been home and when I have been alert and able to play. Those times have been rare since people don't often get on early enough for me to play more than 1 or 2 games. I haven't been on my computer- CAG and Xbox.com- too much since my PC has been slow and running like shit. I don't know why you're mad about this... I'm not.

Classy. Nice dig.

Let's not act like you haven't overdramatized not getting to play often. You've made numerous "woe is me" posts and then the posts about needing to check to see if you're still on the team...come on. For the last month, you've spent more time bitching about NHL11 than playing it. I'm just tired of worrying about whether you get to play or not. At this point, I don't really care. Nobody else has this much trouble playing a damn game. This is the majority of your posts from the past month.
I need you guys to make me love hockey again. Going to all these Reign games (41 loss last night) has been depressing. The Kings have been fantastic, but I don't get to go to Staples as often.
12/11/10
I just feel like I'm left out of the loop half the time anyway, and then when I'd been posting about playing and multiple people responded right after saying, "Hey, everyone else but Matt, let's play!", there was no possible way to read anything else into it other than what I did based on reading the thread and not actually getting to talk to anybody.

My thing is just that people tell me I need to play more, which is fine (and correct). I also understand that, for the first 2 months of the season, I had a busier schedule than most of the regulars. Now, that seems to be reversed, with you moving and Alan and Brandon working long shifts at the Coors bottling plant, or whatever people in Colorado do.

Before last night, I had been on for several consecutive CAG hockey nights, but the last two I got on for resulted in (1) no one showing up at all, and then (2) everyone saying we were going to wait till 10 (an hour and a half later), and then I got back on then and everyone had signed off. Then everyone got back on and played later after I had signed off. I'm just not sure how I'm supposed to get better without playing with the team. I had stated my intention to play drop-in games, but the whole purpose of that would be to get better and gain XP for use with the CAG team.
12/9/10
I had to double check, but it turns out I am still on the team, and a GM. I had just posted saying I wanted to play tonight, so the only thing I can infer is that I'm not wanted as a teammate.
12/8/10
Man... nobody could ever play late when I wanted to, and now that's the only time anyone can play. :whistle2:\ I guess there's always NHL 12.
12/8/10
:(

Man... any time I'm able to get on, either things get delayed, or we don't play at all. Not that that's anyone's fault, but that contributes to my lack of games played. I was excited to play, but then things got pushed back from 5 till 7. I left my Xbox on and watched an episode of Fringe on the DVR, and when that ended not long after , I switched back to the Xbox. Nate had been offline for about 8 minutes, and Gary a few minutes longer.

I played Super Meat Boy and waited to see if anyone got on, but Brandon was the only one. I saw that he did get on NHL for a second, but switched to Black Ops. After no one else signed on, I got off close to 8:00. I can't do many late nights when I wake up so early. It's like the opposite of last season.
Maybe I'm just a dick, but you tell me how those posts come across.

well, my wife was supposed to go to bed early, and be gone all day tomorrow for a shower... first time alone in very long since she is unemployed. Of course, the snow has killed that whole scenario. I doubt I will get on tonight. fingers crossed.

So, is anyone going to be around for 8 PM EST? I'll be on, but might be in MK vs DC if no one is on. Feel free to message me though and I'll switch over.

Good games tonight. That last game made my stomach turn though. For those questioning it, that's why we haven't won a banner. Even with a human goalie, they played like a banner team and we didn't. Regardless of what kind of goals they scored on at the end, they outplayed us anyway. More shots, more time on attack, better passing, etc.

Instead of playing a full 60 minutes, we celebrate early, talk shit, and lose our focus in the final minutes. And then we call the game bullshit, when really, we just gave it away. That's at least the 3rd or 4th time we've blown a 2 goal lead with 4 minutes left in the game. Not trying to come down hard on us because it's only one game, and overall, we played pretty well tonight. Just analyzing why we lost. We do great against the really bad teams, but if we want to stand a chance against the teams that know what they're doing, we've gotta play smarter.

These are all fair points, and I agree with them. Someone, anyone really, needs to speak up and say something to make sure we maintain our focus while we are in game.

We also need to play smarter a little more with the lead. Clear the zone with a dump or shoot it out rather than try to make the pass with 20 seconds left that causes a turnover. Even if the goalie stops the shot, the puck stays in our end. Even if we clear it and get called for icing, we've killed off about 5 seconds.

Not trying to start a fight but, a simple "Ok guys, That was shitty. we need to focus better on the last few mintues" would have sufficed instead of just leaving.

I figured before the game started that it would probably be my last game anyway. When our opponent scored in OT, I just turned my 360 off. Sorry I didn't tell everyone I was going. Didn't think it would be a big deal considering it was after 2 AM anyway.

To be fair, when they scored to bring the game within one goal, I said "Ok, let's not get cocky. Let's just play good defense and run it out." Not sure if anybody heard me though because there was discussion of wiping asses with banners and whatnot. Like I said, it's just one game. But we gave it away by playing dumb down the stretch. It is what it is.

I did hear that, but as you said there was a lot of chatter going on, so perhaps no one else heard you. I wish we had saved the video of the game-tying goal, it would be good to dissect it to see what went wrong.

Like I said, we do need to keep our heads in the game when the lead is close, and we need to play better situational hockey. I admit, I'm guilty of it too. But with time winding down and a lead, dumping the puck into the zone instead of forcing the pass and committing a turnover.

No, I totally agree. We just kinda started to panic and do things we wouldn't normally do. Like you said, with the lead, you should almost treat the last few minutes like a penalty kill. If the other team is really applying pressure, just dump the puck and take the icing.

Instead, we were scrambling all over the ice and trying to slapshot the puck out...which had it going sideways and ricocheting off of people...which led to more scrambling. We just gotta remember the kind of play that got us the lead in the first place and continue that until the final whistle.

I def did not hear that, so my bad, but next time when we are winning by one against a banner team, I will just try to focus better. I felt like we all played well. Hell, that was the one game we lost. I felt like we were a well oiled machine. If anybody is up for some games tonight, I'll be on.

It's cool...and it wasn't "all your fault" or anything like that. We were all scrambling and making stupid mistakes. But yeah, we played well all night. But we have to be objective about it too. Several of those games were against teams that didn't know the puck from their asshole. We beat them pretty badly (as we should). But there's no reason to blow a 2 goal lead with 4 minutes left in the game. That's just definitely one to file under the "things to work on" column. We're better than that.

I could probably play tonight. My wife starts her student teaching tomorrow, so she'll be going to bed early. I should be on any time after 9:30 PM EST.

Nate, you're not a dick. Stubborn, maybe, but I can be guilty of that, too (amongst other things). The "nice dig" thing... I did make certain to say "on occasion" for a reason. I tend to agree with you most of the time, just not this one. You and the other guys on this team, regardless of how little I have been playing hockey with you lately, are friends and I think stuff like this tends to get drawn out more in forum posts when it'd probably be easier to sort out if we were having a voice conversation.

As for the posts you quoted, I understand where you are coming from. However, you said those were from the past month, and while you are correct, look at the dates. All but a couple were made within the first part of December, which was a time when I admitted I did indeed wonder if people weren't wanting to play this with me.

On a lighter note, with all the TV appearances I've been making lately, it'd have been nice to have had a CAG team jersey to wear on camera during appearances such as this:

It's fine, Matt. As I said, the only reason I was aggravated by it is because I was actually trying to find times when you could play. I'm sure you're aware, there's kind of a running joke about what's preventing you from playing hockey on any given night. Wrestling events, minor league hockey games, early bedtimes, Mexican street fights, pudding trucks overturning in front of your house, etc. In the end, you play when you can play...and that's fine. Just as long as you know that no one here is trying to exclude you from the team, and the only thing preventing you from playing more is you.

I don't know if anyone has tried them, but there are two new flavors of Snack Packs. Cinnamon Swirl and Blueberry Muffin. They're both disgusting and the Blueberry Muffin one looks radioactive. It is truly terrifying. That's some bad pudding right there.

On the flipside, Ice Cream Sandwich, I would cut a bitch for.

I got some of that. Good stuff.

As for what is preventing me from playing, I haven't been to any wrestling shows in a few months, and no fights recently on my street! No pudding trucks either, unfortunately.

The main thing is the start time. Once I get too tired and the Adderall wears off, I just can't focus for shit. That, or if I get into another game or something, it's hard for me to switch over. That applies to most any task I get really into.

No weekend games in Ontario till the 23rd, I believe, so we'll see what happens. But if I show up, that might ruin the fantasy which is far more interesting than the real deal.

Well, those are still personal issues and/or choices. Like I said, as long as you know no one is trying to exclude you.
Connection died last night, fell asleep waiting for it to come back up
Yeah, we figured your internet crapped out. The team responded well in your absence though. If you remember, we were playing that Pittsburgh team (Macintosh Bad Apples) with a guy named "Sid Sational" on it. They had a 41-17-4 record (now at 48-19-5...and ranked 187 in Elite), and I think we've played them in the past. Anyway, we took a 4-1 lead into the 3rd period, but they responded early, making it 4-2.

I pointed out to the guys that here was our exact situation that we had struggled with (2 goal lead late in the game). Only this time, we had about 9 minutes to hold it. But we played smart, didn't take chances, and held them scoreless the rest of the game. It felt really good to get that kind of win against a quality team like that, especially being short a man. Definitely a morale booster for the team.

EDIT - Just looked at our past results, and yeah, Brandon, Gary, and I played that Macintosh Bad Apples team on January 5th, and we lost 6-1. Really nice to avenge that loss.
