Wait, if the USB is hooked to the xbox, are you hooking up to the mic port on the controller too? Can't you just plug the USB directly to PC and not have to plug in the controller mic port?
Ah, I see. Yeah, those Logitech controllers can be a crapshoot. I've heard of some that work as good as a 360 controller, and others that have issues. I think Gamestop carries those Rock Candy controllers too if you wanted to save $10-15. But of course, nothing beats the real thing.

USB doesn't carry audio on the X42's (it just powers the transmitter). You have to either use the mic port on the controller or get a 3.5mm adapter and use the mic jack on your PC. Like I said the other night, I can get audio from both the optical (wireless from transmitter) or through the controller mic port...which is why I thought for sure I could control the volumes independently since there's a volume control on the headset itself and one on the cable running to the controller.
But I guess Steam just lumps both game and chat audio on one channel, and there's no way to separate them. Definitely an area where Steam could improve...basically making it more like Party Chat on XBL.
Also, I saw Contagion is now a daily deal on Steam. JakeNome is selling the 4 pack for $8.26. Anybody interested? I'd be happy to grab it and redistribute for $2 each.
YES! So excited to turn left! Should make for good times in 2014. Still haven't heard back from JakeNome about Contagion. I'm pretty sure he's in Russia or something though. Hopefully I get it before I leave in the morning. Either way, I'm actually taking my PC (and Rift) with me, so I won't be cut off or anything.
Im tempted for Contagion. Also, I could always use the app on my phone Nate!
Anyways, I got to use my Aunts computer in Orlando to get the steam gift. Thank you again Rob. I think I might either A: Build another PC in one go or B: Just start piecing together slowly. Depends on hockey stuff. lol
I am seriously tempted to buy SR4 on Steam since it's a flash sale.. Already beat it on the 360 but did the same thing with SR3 and played it just as much on PC as I did 360.
Got a chance to play a bit of Contagion today...and man, is that game pretty unforgiving. Unless I just blatantly missed something, there seems to be no way to "regenerate" your health. Now, I'm fine with health that doesn't literally regenerate as time passes because yeah, that's dumb. But no bandages/painkillers or anything? Brutal.
I also got it working in the Rift, and it actually worked surprisingly well...until I got overwhelmed by like 8-9 zombies, and I just started spraying bullets from the rifle I found lying around. Then I heard "click, click"...and got that "oh shit" feeling. I ran away, switched back to my pistol, and tried to take out as many as I could. But they got me. Sons of bitches, lol.
Also, do not try to climb up on a desk/table to melee zombies while they "can't get you". It does not work in this game...
Haha, isn't that the damn truth. From what I saw of Contagion, that at least seems pretty straightforward...with a server name and password. You never know what you're going to get with these early access games though.
I saw 7 Days To Die was on sale again. They're out of their damn mind if they think I'm going to spend $30 on a dime a dozen zombie game though. And I even thought 7 Days To Die was one of the better ones. $2 for a game like Contagion is much more my price range, haha.
Also, it doesn't look like Damned won the community vote. That's too bad. I probably would have considered it for under $5 (especially with 4 pack possibilities). But looking at its community page, it seems like it's still pretty buggy. That might make it a good "down the road" candidate. Definitely a cool premise though. It almost reminded me of that Infected mini game in Forza Horizon that we had so much fun with.
Got some actual work to do tonight I think. Gary and I played Payday 2 on the Xbox. We really need at least three human players for that, the AI is dumb as shit.
Didn't get your PM about Rugby in time. I'll probably be on tonight, but not that late.
Also, holy Crap Brandon, how many of my guys did you injure? I thought I had no injuries going into this block, could be wrong on that though, now I have 3 out.
Alan your guys forgot to eat their wheaties for that game. One guy got hurt blocking a point shot. Another got hurt on a check by my smallest d-man. They were just dropping like flies.
I will be around after around 9:15 mst. My internet has been acting really weird lately but hopefully it will be good enough to play.
I'll be on tonight since I have off tomorrow. However, my tolerance for EA and hockey (mostly just the whole USA roster, so just that part of hockey.....) is wearing thing.

Good times last night (and Friday...I guess...winning that one game was awesome, lol). But in our Payday adventures last night, Brandon showed us how to pick a lock on a gate when you could just walk around it. Brandon's finishing up picking the lock and I'm standing on the other side staring at him, lol. That was pretty hilarious.
Contagion is also an odd game. Co-op and competitive play is kind of just merged together. Even the maps that have objectives, you become a zombie when you die...and can then attack your former squad mates if you want. Or you can use your new zombie invincibility and scout ahead for your squad mates (what we did).
The co-op part with objectives was fun, but holy shit was it long...with no checkpoints and nothing to regenerate your health. And there are LOTS of zombies. You can have up to 8 people playing together though, so it's probably gets a bit easier when you have a full group.
Also, this is pretty awesome and is what I'll be working on this week. The ability to use a wiimote as a mouse makes for some very interesting possibilities...and is way cheaper than that Delta 6 gun that isn't even out yet.
Played some Payday and Contagion solo today. Ran into a somewhat similar locked door incident with the A.I.

In Contagion, I found a room marked First Aid in the cell blocks, but it was locked with a chain. Died before I could get the bolt cutters, so it does seem like it's possible to heal up if you backtrack.
Really disappointed no one was injured in that L4D vid.

LMAO...well, you didn't say you were playing with ghost AI. That's pretty awesome.
And that's encouraging about Contagion. I enjoyed playing co-op and doing the objectives to actually try to get somewhere. It was just crazy how long those levels were. I really don't understand why it was putting us on another map when we started over though (unless the servers rotate maps every time a session ends or something). I just know that when I played by myself, it didn't do that (though ti did start me over on the same map).
As for the L4D video, haha...yeah. There was actually some reasonably impressive self-awareness there to not get tangled up in the Rift cable. They both dealt with it surprisingly well. I know a lot of people are hoping that the consumer version will be wireless...but I just can't imagine the problems with lag that that could introduce...which would defeat the entire purpose of the unit. At the least, they need a longer cable that you can suspend, with some kind of rotating piece so it's really hard to twist up.
And I'm kind of surprised nobody has made a gun peripheral for PC yet (other than the Delta 6...which is crazy expensive). Considering a Wiimote with motion plus can function as a mouse entirely on its own (you don't even need the sensor bar), you'd think somebody would have jumped on that by now.
There something similar to the Delta 6, but not exactly, called the NOVINT Falcon. Can't paste in the CAG text box on my phone for some reason to link it.
I don't think it would work well with the rift though since it's a stationary unit.

That's interesting, but yeah..not really workable. That looks like a step up from this, which I also found while researching.
Pretty cool looking, but probably functionally pointless, lol. If you notice, this thing is an actual laser mouse. You just move it around and pull the trigger to click, haha. I did end up getting a Wiimote + Nunchuk combo working reasonably well last night. I tested it in Team Fortress 2 since that has native Rift support and the default control scheme separates looking from aiming, allowing you to look one direction while firing your weapon in another.
The only hiccup is the scheme I'm using requires you to hold a button to move the mouse cursor. This seems to be necessary because apparently the nunchuk and motion plus don't really get along, so if I don't make it that way, the aim gets super sensitive and starts freaking out. But it also allows me to reset my position, similar to lifting your mouse when you get to the edge of your mousepad. I actually ordered one of these just to make it a little more authentic, haha. The zappers are all right, but the trigger being in the front just bothers me. Makes no sense.
EDIT - Actually, Alan...this is what people are using the NOVINT Falcon for on the Rift, lol. NSFW for sure
I MIGHT be able to play for an hour or two but not till late (probably like 11:30 EST). My daughter's bedtime "routine" lately has been scream, fight, and resist for about 20-30 minutes, then accept her fate and go to sleep like an angel. It makes for one pretty bipolar hour. But it's infinitely better than fighting all night, so I'll take it, lol.
