Oh fuck! Gus got dropped with that wheel kick, lol.

EDIT - The striking looks way better than in the videos they've been posting (honestly, I don't know what the purpose of posting videos that are a disservice to your game is). The sound effects of the strikes are a little odd (they almost sound like a wet slap)...but it definitely gives a better sense of impact than in the videos or in EA MMA.

And flash KO's are definitely still present. Gary destroyed Jones with a big right hook as he was coming in and dropped him like a bag of rocks. That was definitely one that deserved to be a KO...but we know how random they could be in the past. Hopefully EA has a good system for that.

EDIT 2 - Gary said the demo is on easy...but damn, takedowns look like they could be cheesed. Gary was doing this one slam takedown with Jones where he just grabs Gus's leg, moves behind him, and lifts him up and slams him on his back with basically no resistance. Gave me a "locked in animation" kind of vibe. Hopefully it's just the AI allowing it due ot the low difficulty though. He has stuffed it before Jones gets his leg. I just hope it's not one of those things you can't fight out of once your opponent gets your leg.

Gary just did Anthony Pettis' "Showtime" kick off the cage with Alexander Gustafsson... It didn't land, but he attempted it. EA, you make me so sad sometimes.

I'll add you to my follow list, Matt. Definitely post your impressions too. I would imagine the games would be nearly identical across platforms, but you never know. It'll be interesting to see if they look any differently.

Alright, time for something else. I'll probably do some more tomorrow if you have any requests for it Nate. Submissions are much harder this year though as you can see.

Thanks, Nate. I think I've only streamed once because I figured no one would care to watch.

I played through the tutorial on UFC followed by 4 exhibition fights. I need to spend more time with it, but I liked it. The ground game is similar to the UFC Undisputed games control-wise and feels fluid. Takedowns are executed differently, but I like that as well. No rapid swiveling of the analog stick required for takedowns or submissions.

I'll be putting more time into it tomorrow. Gonna try to play before the Stanley Cup Final if possible. I'll post in here if I have time to stream a few fights.

Is Alan even considering a next gen console at all? He might be NHL'less anyway, haha.

In Steam news, there's yet another early access MMO survival game...this time featuring dinosaurs.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/263440/

When I saw Rust's new design and graphics of the map, I actually thought dinosaurs would be really awesome. Probably would have gone way better for them if they had done that instead of zombies, guns, explosives, etc.

So... more refs means less missed penalties, right? I think that makes perfect, logical sense ;)

I'll probably pick up a next gen system if we all come to a consensus/all have the same version of NHL.

When I saw that Dino thing, the first thing I thought of was Turok lol. Rust is definitely looking better visually. Some of the armor they posted in the most recent blog is comically dumb.

And lastly, wtf, a $40 chess game? These people are nuts.
http://steamcommunity.com/app/276750/discussions/

Chess should literally be one of the few things that is cheaper to play IRL than the digital version.

Well, as it stands right now, I think we've got:

Xbox One and PS4

Brandon

PS4 Only

Matt

Rob

Xbox One Only

Gary

Undecided

Alan

Nate

So, we're reasonably split already, haha. I'm torn because while I don't want to leave anybody out, if I'm getting a next gen system at all (which I didn't think I'd do even this soon), I want to make sure it serves as much of a purpose as possible....which makes me start to think about how good the system is overall and what games it has/what appeals to me.

Ahh...so much to consider, lol. It's like putting together a TPS report.

Xbox One Exclusives
Dead Rising 3 - With Capcom, I never trust it won't pop up on another platform a year or two later...and even if it doesn't, I don't see it being a "You didn't play that??? What's wrong with you???" kind of game.

Halo - Big hitter, no question.

Gears of War - I couldn't ever really get into them...didn't really seem drastically different from Halo, Resistence, etc. to me.

Forza - Great, but there are plenty of racing games on PC. With the Rift and a G27 now, Forza doesn't have the same pull it once did.

Fable - Good games, but probably nothing I'd buy a system for.

Quantum Break - Seems like it has a lot of potential...it may sound weird, but I'd probably regret missing this one the most. Won't be out for quite a while though.

Fantasia: Music Evolved - Was looking forward to this, but I know Harmonix is pissed about Microsoft caving on the need for Kinect...not sure what to expect now...not to mention it will be on 360, so not a true exclusive.

Project Spark - Looks cool. Also not a true exclusive though.

PS4 Exclusives
MLB 14: The Show - I guess this is similar to Fantasia since it's not a true exclusive...but something to consider moving forward.

Infamous: Second Son - The Infamous games are cool...but again, probably not something I'd buy a system for.

Killzone: Shadow Fall - I've actually never played Killzone...but it's a shooter. So, on the surface, I'd throw it in the dime a dozen pile, lol.

Driveclub - Looks good...but same situation as Forza.

God of War - These games are cool...but it's probably almost become like Halo with lots of immitators lately.

The Order: 1886 - Looks really interesting. But I know this one just had a big delay too...similar to Quantum Break in that regard, haha.

Everybody's Gone To The Rapture - I didn't even know about this game until a few minutes ago. It's a spiritual successor to Dear Esther. I guess it was going to come out for PC...but they changed and now it's PS4 exclusive.

Knack - Looks interesting...but I heard it wasn't that good.

Last of Us: Remastered - I still need ot play the game on PS3...but I imagine this will be pretty amazing. Similar to Halo 2 Anniversary on Xbox One.

Next Quantic Dream game - I still need to play Beyond Two Souls, but I loved Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy.

Uncharted - Love these games. Writing has been outstanding from the beginning.

interesting statistic: Looking at these game lists on Wikipedia, Microsoft has 17 games exclusive to the One entirely, and 9 games exclusive to Microsoft. Meanwhile, Sony has 28 games exclusive to the PS4 and 20 games exclusive to Sony.

And finally, the controller. I feel like a pussy to be swayed by the controller. But those God damned side by side analog sticks...they just seem unnatural. I'm going to go loiter like a homeless person in Best Buy sometime this week and play a PS4 for as long as I can and see if I can get used to it. Reading opinions of them on the internet helps nothing, as it always devolves into comments of " fuck U! YOUR A FANBOI BITCH!"

*sigh* first world problems...

I haven't had a problem with the PS4 controller. To me, a controller is a controller. Hell, I got used to using the Wii U gamepad pretty easy.

The XB1 controller has won at least 90 awards from over One company! Lol.

I know you're not that into racing games but Project Cars looks amazing. http://giant.gfycat.com/FairSandyGuillemot.gif

Also, DR3 is great and once you see all the zombies you say, Holy fuck.

I think controller will play a huge part honestly. Sadly, two people will miss out eventually.
Project Cars will be on PC and will have native Rift support. I'll definitely be looking into it there.

I don't know. I definitely thought the offset sticks of the 360 felt more natural this past gen (maybe hand size played a role too though)...but I have read that the PS4 controller made huge leaps in ergonomics and comfort. If it was enough to close that gap, I could see the difference being negligible now. But I've also seen people modding their PS4 sticks to use XB1 sticks because allegedly the grip is still better. The bumpers on the XB1 controller are generally thought to be crappy and a step backward from the 360's though.

Granted it's coming to the PC, but will it look as beautiful as next gen systems? 😆

That's what I Thought About when I upgraded. Besides the whole 360 losing all my data. I said. If I spent $300, would I be able to get the same performance from my pc? Sadly, I knew the answer once I looked up the cards I had wanted. That's me however.

Hey fellas, long time. I see you have yourselves a South Park-esque next gen discussion. I'll just say that I love the Xbox One and if you are into anything other than just the games, all the media integration stuff is really awesome.

I hear you. But that's going to be relative to what you have in your PC. I saw a page on Reddit a couple months ago about building a PC comparable to the PS4/Xbox One for a similar price (wish I would have bookmarked it). And moving forward PC will be my #1 (with whatever upgrades I need to make). Any multiplatform game, I'll get on PC where it will be cheaper (that's where you make up your build cost...not paying $60 for every game).

And for racing games, where I've got my racing seat, G27, and Rift, it's just no contest. In that regard, it would probably make Mario Kart a bigger draw since that's such a different type of game (though Mario Kart in the Rift is the tits too, lol...but it's basically just a demo). From what I read, Project Cars will be 1080p on Xbox One...but only 30 frames per second. So, while it looks great...it doesn't take as beastly of a machine as you'd think to pull that off.

I appreciate the input, but the media stuff is mostly a non-factor for me. We don't subscribe to cable. I've got an HTPC running as a DVR, and use a combo of OTA/Netflix/Hulu/Oh Shit, I Need To DL that for programming. I've also got the PS3 in there which is a pretty great media machine in its own right. I feel like most of what the One can do, I do already...other than verbally telling it to do stuff...which would just be me shouting over a 2 year old anyway, lol

I'll be honest, when I read reviews for the One that include stuff like "You can watch Netflix while waiting on a game to load!" I just shake my head. It makes me wonder what kind of "entertain me every second of the day" society we live in where somebody can't just sit, wait, and be alone with their thoughts for 45 seconds. And to be to the point where it's worth watching something in little commercial sized increments...I just don't get it.

I feel like if you're watching a show and playing a game at the same time, chances are, you're not really paying attention to either one. Maybe that makes me an old geezer...but that's how little it appeals to me. I feel like I can accomplish the same effect looking at my phone or a magazine.

I need a way bigger selling point for the One than that. I feel like I'm in such an odd place because I almost want the One to be better than the PS4 (considering how much more comfortable with MS I've been for years). But realistically, I'm not sure that it is.

If you care strictly about the games, and it seems you do, then honestly the PS4 is probably the better of the two. That is, if PS+ online service is as good as the Xbox Live, which I don't know.

As for the media and multi-tasking, since I do have cable it's been great for me. And sometimes I'm just watching a playoff game on TV and while talking with my wife remember something I wanted to show her on YouTube and can switch over to it and back to the game etc. I like it.

But yeah, in your situation, probably a non-factor.

That's what's crazy. From most reports, it seems like the PS4 is the better GAMING system (more games, games look better, etc)...but yeah, I have no idea if PSN is up to snuff since putting multiplayer behind the pay wall. But definitely, the only reason I'm even looking at a next gen console is for UFC, Madden, NHL, The Show, etc (ie. games not on PC). So, having reliable multiplayer is definitely important. XBL is a great online system...but considering how many PS4s have sold, it would be asinine of Sony to not have the service to support all those sales.

PS+ is easily on par with Xbox Live in terms of reliability and quality. On top of that, you get a much better and varied selection of free games (and especially discounts) for PS4, PS3, and Vita.

I've been a PS+ subscribe since day 1 and it's way better than Live. Any specific questions?

I recorded 2 videos from the UFC demo and posted them on Facebook. For some reason, it doesn't record Bruce Buffer or the commentary.

Yeah...I know most people regard PS+ bonuses as being better than XBL's (though MS has been trying to do better at least). That's a nice bonus, but I'm not even 100% concerned with that. I'll have plenty of games to play either way. I guess just the smoothness and ease of multiplayer would be my #1 for the service. Has anybody played Madden 25 or NBA2K14 on PS4 online that can comment on how the experience is?

I watched your videos, Matt. There still seems to be some oddities with the striking. In the first video, Jones gets dropped with a body shot at 1:54. It looked great. He got hit unexpectedly, ate it clean, and buckled. I also like how he rolled into guard. But then at 2:07, Jones eats a big uppercut, gets dropped, and is almost instantly back up. Just seems like that punch should have done more than it did.

In the second video, at 3:52, there's a great knockdown. Jones lunges in and gets caught, and just drops. It's not one of those KO counters...but it breaks up his flow and makes him lose his balance. Jones even rolls back into guard, defending himself before trying to get up. So, the striking looks pretty good...but there still seem to be some video game heavy moments as well.

And I still think i hate how takedowns look. Single legs are way too easy. You just don't see that many guys grabbing a single leg and just dragging their opponent down with little resistance. Most of the time, you'll see the guy fighting off the takedown by hopping around on one leg.

Maybe this is a byproduct of being a video game too...but you'd think they could do something there. I mean, you don't want every interaction to be a mini game...and I'm not sure we'd want a stick twirling fest there either. But I really don't like how it looks like the guy with his leg being held onto is just helpless. If something like that becomes a "gimme", you can guarantee people online will abuse it.

I need to go through the takedown tutorials again (reversals too) so I purposely kept those as striking battles. I haven't heard back from my potential MLB 14 opponent yet, so if he and I don't play today at 6 Eastern, I can stream a little if any of you want to watch.

Oh yeah- I definitely will get an Xbox One at some point. When, I don't know. I was lucky enough to win a PS4. If I could only have one of the systems, it would be the PS4, but the Xbox One still has some cool non-gaming features and I most definitely want to play the next Halo and Gears games, along with Sunset Overdrive.

Nate, the online play in NBA 2K14 on PS4 has been relatively smooth for me. Any issues I've had with it have been minor, and they've been on 2K's end, not Sony's.

Basketball, we don't speak of that in here.

Nate was watching my take downs the other night. I also finally got that submission locked in and it felt rewarding. I wish I could get the punch or kick off the cage down.

Yeah...I'm suspicious of easy takedowns, lol. But seriously, that kick off the cage shouldn't be done by 205'ers anyway...even Jones. The only person that does that shit is 155lb Anthony Pettis...and even then, it was a ridiculous move. A lot of Jones spinning kicks and elbows are flashy as it is. The game could get out of hand if all people are doing online is crazy ninja shit, lol.

Those pokemon logos are cool too. Extra points for using mostly the OG pokemon.

So much talk about other games and systems...Friday just snuck up on me, haha. Time to make ourselves wish we had never been born with some NHL 14 tonight! Wait...that's not right...

I'll be on in about an hour.

Probably spying.

Wow...$600 for the full set. If that's the cheapest they can do for that tech, it's not going to happen any time soon. People are already somewhat skeptical of the $300 Oculus Rift that does the amazing work of transporting you to a different world. An additional $500 to walk in that world (Virtuix Omni) or $600 to move your hands in that world just isn't on the same level. They've gotta do better than that.
