Oh, yeah...I definitely think there will be enough enthusiasts with deep pockets to at least get some units made. But reaching the consumer market and being massively produced is going to be tough at $600 (and most likely, all those people buying the single glove version will wish they had both gloves)

Hell, maybe they can convince Facebook to buy them too, lol. R&D costs for these new technologies are what ends up being most crippling. Before the Facebook buyout, Oculus had to just stop making DK1 Rifts because the parts they were using (ie. cell phone parts) were no longer being manufactured. Having the resources to make your own parts should make a big difference.

Here's a full body tracking system that's been in development for awhile. Also not cheap...and probably not as good as having gloves with full finger tracking. But this would probably be compatible with more games too.

Ok, so doesn't Call of Duty in the future eventually become Halo at some point? lol. I'm not a huge shooter fan to begin with (I enjoy the ones that are done well, but they'll never be a system seller for me), but a sci-fi CoD just seems dumb to me.

I've gotta admit, Horizon 2 looks pretty ridiculous. Dynamic weather probably being the biggest improvement. I was surprised how much that game still excited me...but I guess Horizon is what got me back into racing games again.

Sunset Overdrive looks incredible. So much style and creativity there. This may have been my favorite game of the presentation.

Master Chief Collection was no joke. There's a lot of value there...but ultimately depends on how you feel about double (and possibly even triple) dipping. I guess for the uber fan wanting to relive all the multiplayer glory, it's a dream come true. It looked extremely well done though. So, I can respect it for that.

That Scalebound game they showed near the end was a huge "meh" for me. Typical dime a dozen game. I seriously questioned if it was an exclusive Devil May Cry at first. Wow...a blond, male monster slayer in goofy atire with a giant sword. What an original idea...

Not a bad presentation from MS. It'll be interesting to see what Sony does tonight.

Maybe it's just me, but NHL looks too.. shiney. It looks almost all CG too, waiting to see actual game play.
It's funny because the beginning of the trailer says "all footage captured from actual gameplay"...but yet, yeah, it was 90% cutscenes. Maybe it's a fine line there...with between play, celebrations, replays, etc. still being considered "actual gameplay". But it definitely wasn't a "watching somebody play NHL" that it should be if they're going to call it actual gameplay.

Ah, must have not been paying attention at the beginning, didn't realize it actually was game play lol. I guess we just want to see what it actually looks like when one is actually playing the game, not these set up angles, moments, etc.

Yeah, I watched it again, and there's really probably only 25% of the trailer that you could argue somebody is actually "in control" of the player. To me, that's "actual gameplay". When the game takes over control and skates my guy around the rink celebrating or warming up...that may as well be CG. I'm not ready to fall for slick marketing just yet.

EA showing NHL right now.

Edit - Show all they showed was what I posted. Sigh. I think maybe three of the clips were game play with the rest being those cut scenes. Howeber. back hand top shelf is so nice to see.

Does look shiny, but so did last year's trailer iirc.

Had to run errands, so I didn't get a chance to see EA's presentation. Going to try to find a video of it now.

But yeah, I think EA has been trying to make their trailers look extra flashy. That's almost a concern in and of itself when you get to the actual game and you're like "It don't look like dat..." I think showing NHL at E3 just isn't the right timing because the game is never ready to really be shown off.

Ultimately, the trailer looks nice, and the improvements we've heard about sound nice...but there were plenty of boneheaded things in the game that needed fixing. It'll take more than a trailer (and really, a demo, sadly) to show if any of those issues have been addressed. But as usual, we can always hope, haha. :)

Ha...I found a good summary of the section on NHL 15 on Polygon.

12:22 On to NHL 15. “Almost everything” is changing in the new version of the game. Will they be using brooms instead of hockey sticks and hitting bunny rabbits instead of pucks?

12:23 No, from the looks of the trailer they play us, “almost everything” looks like better graphics and improved stuff for highlight reels.
It's kind of sad that everybody has grown so cynical of the series. And I'll give them some credit. Changing the announce team is a big deal. But a lot of this stuff is so overdue, the game still has a good chance to be lacking in areas. It's going to take A LOT of work to get this game back to a good place. It'll be interesting as release gets closer to see if EA finally gets that or not.

But they really need to stop feeding us BS hype and start showing/talking about real things. I'm not going to pop a chubby because they show Patrick Kane do a "sick deke" and score a goal. That has nothing to do with understanding hockey.

Good God, there's another one, lol. And this one apparently already has Rift support.

Also, not sure if you saw this, Alan, but the most recent Rust dev blog talked about hopefully having building ready in the experimental server "next week". So, that seems like it's at least coming along.

Hopefully crafting comes sooner than later. I wonder how limited it will be compared to what we are used to though. Might wait until its a bit more full fledged.

Edit: Huh, just got a key from the Company of Heroes 2 giveaway a while back.

Bloodborne...

Sony showed a lot of games that won't be out until 2015...but they also probably showed a bit more diversity, in my opinion. I'm not sure what it is, but games on PS4 just seem to look better. The Order:1886, Bloodborne, and even Destiny (though not a real exclusive) looked freaking cinematic as hell. I suppose it could just be more slick trailers...but they did a great job making the games look really interesting.

LittleBigPlanet 3 also looks awesome. And I have to give them credit for actually playing that one live...even with all the screw ups. It felt a lot more genuine than other demos where the presenter is clearly just pretending to play pre-recorded footage.

ABZU and No Man's Sky also looked really good. My brain can't really process how a "map" that big can exist in No Man's Sky...and be freaking procedurally drawn. They were flying in and out of each planet's atmosphere like it was nothing.

The Last of Us and GTA V going next gen was a no brainer. Releasing those so late in the previous gen was just unfortunate timing. And they'll both serve as decent stopgaps until the true next gen games are ready next year.

Sony also having Project Morpheus and Playstation TV in their corner could be huge. I don't even have any interest in Project Morpheus...but for console only gamers, once they try VR (assuming it's anything like the Rift)...Microsoft could be in trouble. VR is a game changer.

And if I'm understanding Playstation TV right, it basically allows you to stream your PS4 to any other TV in your house? I might actually have a use for that since I usually end up gaming at my desk since the living room TV is usually tied up (this problem led to owning 2 Xbox 360s this past gen).

And Uncharted 4...holy crap. Easily on the level of Halo at this point.

For NMS, I think it's procedurally generated, but not random. Dont really know how to explain it, but heres y best shot: There still an algorithm that everyone shares. in coordinate x1,y1, the game will always have biome B1 and atmosphere A1. In coordinate x2,y2, it will always have B1, A2, and so one. Again, I could be completeley wrong, but I think I remember reading that's how it goes.

Really hope GTA5 comes to PC this year

I think it was primarily for playing Vita games on TV, and streaming PS4 games wasnt included at launch in Japan, but was supposed to be added post-launch. Dont know what the status is as of today.

Well fuck...this might be checkmate for me, lol. I really like the PS4...but I'm not sure I can fight this one.

http://www.destructoid.com/harmonix-announces-dance-central-spotlight-a-digital-only-xbox-one-exclusive-275843.phtml

And here's some great news: Legacy DLC will be supported. If you've ever purchased DLC for Dance Central, you'll get the Spotlight version for free when it is released, complete with the 8 routines.
This is almost like people being too invested in iPhone to switch to Android. We've got Dance Central with most of the DLC...not to mention Rock Band with like 400 DLC songs. Harmonix has already talked about having plans for a next gen Rock Band...and it seems reasonable to expect them to use a similar formula...small downloadable game with 10-15 songs, and then support it with Legacy DLC they already have...in addition to adding new DLC.

If they can find a way for old instruments to work (specifically, my ion drum set and pro RB guitar), then it's a no brainer. God dammit, Microsoft...

Damn, Horizon 2 has announced that there will be over 200 cars available at launch.  Looks like the One version will be the way to go.  The team that worked on the first Horizon is doing the One version and a different developer is doing the 360 version.

But man, went from a day one to a three month wait cause of this!! :eyeroll:http://www.joystiq.com/2014/06/11/nhl-15-missing-94-anniversary-mode-on-xbox-one-ps4/

Did you actually play NHL 94 mode? It felt super tacked on and lame to me (would have loved it with original graphics though). I'm kinda glad they won't be wasting resources on it (though, I really can't imagine it takes a whole lot of time to make blue ice and transfer those overlays to XB1/PS4). Just seems more like their way of saying "We don't want to do it again because it was pointless", lol.

There is no eyeroll smiley. Damn it.

No, still day one for me. I need my hockey fix and twice a week at a rink doesn't soothe it. I also felt it was a waste of space.

LOL...I was like "Wait a second...is Gary pulling my chain? ...and not in a sexy way. Shouldn't there be lotion?"

So the '94 mode attracts casual players and not the hardcore players who played the game in '94 and play it for nostalgia?

Could that guy be any more lost?

I mean, I don't care either way and they half-assed it so it's not like we are missing out on much. But if they think that mode (if done right) would be more for casual players of NHL, then they are totally clueless.

To me, the biggest difference we see moving from generation to generation is improvements in lighting and shading creating a better sense of depth. Of course, high res textures make things look better too. But you really notice that pop with the way light hits and where shadows fall.

They were probably capable of this on the previous gen, but like any PC gamer knows, the more effects you boost, you're going to lose frames. The game definitely looks good. Now to see if it has any intelligence at all, haha. :)

On a gameplay note, the backhanders and shots coming off dekes definitely look less awkward and retarded in the 15 trailer. Too bad EA didn't think of doing this themselves. Considering the jump to next gen and the new engine, this would have been really impressive to showcase at their conference.

Also, I agree with this. They definitely half-assed it. If they did it right...with the old graphics and gamplay, buth with current teams/rosters...people would have a reason to play it (or even pay extra for it as DLC).

But what they did doesn't really amount to more than playing with a custom music list. You're still playing the same game...just dressed up differently. To me, this was EA's way of announcing that they have no intention of full-assing anything, lol

Now that I think about it...the fact the someone basically re-created the trailer with last year's game makes me wonder how much of the animations are recycled from last year. The hit at :44 and the deke at the end are pretty much identical

But the goalie ramming is different. ☺

I wonder how they would recycle it though with a new engine. It's not like they can just take the code and be like, ok now let's just change it for the Xbox one and be done, right?. I thought it had to be reworked for the new engine and gpu and stuff.

Yeah, I could see that. I don't have a problem with it as long as the physics makes sense. For instance, the fact that Kane is doing the deke shouldn't make it impossible for me to interfere with his stick. But the move itself probably looks about as natural as they can make it. The hit looks reasonable to me as well...assuming that "size matters".

Also, this is all on a new engine. How much of a difference that actually makes remains to be seen.

Info released on Alienware's Steam Machine

https://games.yahoo.com/news/ps4-xbox-one-competition-alienware-alpha-001028078.html

It will start at $549 with the following specs:

Core i3 Haswell CPU

4 GB RAM

500 GB HD

802.11 AC Wifi

Bluetooth 4.0

Gigabit Ethernet

HDMI Out

2 USB 3.0 ports

And an alleged "custom built" NVIDIA GPU based on the Maxwell architecture with 2 GB dedicated RAM

Like most PC sellers, you can upgrade the CPU, RAM, HD, etc. for an added cost.

Not sure this is going to make much of a dent considering it's not as powerful as the XB1 or PS4...and costs a bit more. But I guess for people that really want to get into PC gaming, and can't build their own, it's at least a starting point.

I'm just hoping that we'll finally see some differentiation in players. Feels like too many players are bunched together ratings-wise and sometimes the real talented players don't play much differently from third-liners.

That Stomping Land video was pretty funny, Brandon. Definitely an online survival game.

"Where are you?"

"I'm by a tree. Where are you?"

"I'm near the water."

10 minutes later...

"Where are you?"

"I'm going to just keep walking until I find you."

"Oh God, someone is murdering me!"

lol, definitely some interesting ideas with that game. But from what I've read on the forums, the kidnapping gets kind of out of hand. And at $25, I think I'd rather wait for 1. Rust to ever be ready. 2. 7 Days to Die to go on sale again. 3. The Forest to add co-op.

In case anybody didn't know, GMG is having a crazy sale today. You can get the entire Rockstar Collection for $20...or just the GTA Collection for $10. Individual games from Rockstar are on sale too (GTA IV Complete $6). They've got Codemasters stuff on sale as well.

I don't know why, but now that we've got a release date for GTA V, I'm almost considering picking up the full GTA pack, haha.

GTA IV is $6 on steam for the complete edition too. Weeklong sale until tomorrow morning. I got the GTA pack after San Andreas and have almost picked up IV several times.

The 360 has an online free roam mode, I would assume PC is the same which would make for some great shenanigans. Let me know if you guys pick it up and I will too.

All right, I picked up GTA IV (along with the rest of the games...I didn't have any of them on PC). Everybody get on it! haha. I figure if we're all interested, might as well go for it. And like I said, it'll get us all excited for GTA V in the fall.

Reading this thread makes me think I'm going to be all by myself on the PS4.

http://vimeo.com/97634383
Well, Matt is there with you. Brandon as well...but if you're talking NHL 15, yeah...I'm assuming most of us will be going Xbox One at this point. I was probably 95% decided on PS4...but then Harmonix had to pull their "Oh, remember all that DLC you bought? We're going to honor it on the new system." And I'm all like "Oh...well...that's really nice of you. Now I have to get an Xbox One...assholes" lol.

With the improved puck physics, will we no longer see the 'beach ball' effect on dump-ins - much like NHL 14?

  • The puck is one of the most complex objects in all of sports. It is so complex that we literally hired a physicist who worked on the hadron collider in Geneva to help rebuild our puck physics. To answer your question - the ‘beach ball’ dump-in is gone but you will still see unpredictable puck reactions through Real Puck Physics just like in a real NHL game.
Oh, EA...you can't just not talk, can you? They seriously keep upping the ante every year. Now, not only does the game incorporate science...but it's based on the work of world renowned particle physicists, lol. So, if it's still bad, I get to go heckle this guy now? Deal.

Next, they're going to tell us his name is Dr. Sheldon Cooper.
